How to recover iphoto titles in '08?

I have just upgraded to iphoto '08 and not only did it undo all of my photo editing in my albums (for ~7000 photos), but all of my photo titles have disappeared. Unfortunately, I had not yet backed up my photos to my external hard drive (my bad!). I have already tried to remedy the situation by rebuilding my iphoto database, but to no avail. However, after my second rebuild, it recovered my albums (and my edits!) but none of my photo titles. To go back and enter 7000 photo titles, which correspond to my iweb blog would be quite laborious (and nearly impossible to remember the content). Any suggestions on how to recover my titles from pre-install? Thank you in advance for saving me hours and hours of time.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you have a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto dB file? If you do just replace the current one with the backup copy. Otherwise you might be out of luck. Since the one rebuild got some of the stuff back you might try rebuilding with iPhoto Library Manager. It often succeeds where iPhoto fails. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. Report back on how long it took and how many photos you have in the library so we can give other users an idea of how long it may take.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How to recover iphoto pictures from a hard drive

My macbook pro got water on it and it doesn't work anymore. I bought a new one, but want to recover the information from the hard drive in the old computer. I am trying to recover my iphoto pictures, but I cannot open the iphoto version in my old drive. Can you help? How can I recover the pictures from my iphoto library? Thank you for your suggestions.

Are you able to mount the old drive so you can access files on it?  From your comment "I cannot open the iphoto version in my old drive"  I'm assuming you can somehow.
Therefore copy the library to your new Mac and try to open the library from there.  If you can copy the library to you new Mac but can't open it with iPhoto open it with the Finder and follow these directions:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • HT201250 How to recover iPhoto Library after format of hard drive?

I've recently reinstalled Lion onto my hard drive but I forgot to backup my iPhoto library. Is there any way of recovering this library? I also have an external hard drive that had Time Machine Backups but that hard drive has since gone through formats as well. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

SOLUTION : iPhoto folder recovered after formatting hard drive by mistake.
I was able for recover my iPhoto library ( intact ) after formatting the hard drive by mistake.
On top of that I formatted it in FAT32 format. My iPhoto folder was huge 100GB with file and movies of all sort of formats. I kept it on a secondary hard drive of 500 GB. one day I was formatting flash drive for somebody which was 500Mb, seems similar to my 500GB and I formatted my hard drive by mistake. I realized the mistake a week after the person called me and said there is nothing in flash disk and I find a single file on my hard drive. Needless to say the earth disappeared underneath me. All my pictures for 10 years , 8000 thousand of them, cherished memories all gone. But was I determined to find them back and I know they are intact somewhere. My biggest fear was that formatting on MS-dos format might have really deleted them , but they were there. and here is how I got them back.
First I tried the Data recuse 3 software. I got the photos back,  but they were all jumbled up. Long numerical file names and original dates were gone. No way I could sort it out back to the way it was before . So my target was to recover the iPhoto folder intact.
    - I bought an external hard drive with 1tb space to retrieve the data.
    - The software which did the miraculous job is called  " STELLAR PHOENIX MAC DATA RECOVERY" .
    - I ran a deep scan all night and came up with many volumes.  volume-1 was the MS dos , volume 2 was a mac system,
    - I tried MS dos volume first and there was nothing on it.
    - I tried the 2 volume with mac system. It got all my files and some other system file.
    - I could see the iPhoto folder and click on that only to recover. After that I went for my doc and other files later.
    - It took hours to retrieve my iPhoto folder intact, The folder size was right and file were there in master folder.
    - I checked in FINDER , opening iPhoto with "show content " and all my picture file were there with original date.
    - BUT when tried opening it in iPhoto , there was nothing. it keep showing the wait icon and nothing shows up. Empty iPhoto.
    - I tired starting iPhoto , holding command -option and tried building and repairing database, nothing worked.
    - Then I got this software " iPhoto library manager" .
    - downloaded, installed it and pointed it towards my iPhoto folder.
    - It asked for space to rebuild a new iPhoto library with existing picture and folder.
I had another external hard drive , I used it to make a rebuild  iPhoto library.
and there I GOT IT. only took three night of pain.
    IMPORTANT:
I never touched my original formatted hard drive. Don't write anything on it until you are sure you have recovered everything. open and see files with your own eyes.
    - I recovered the iPhoto on another hard drive and then built it on another hard drive . Yes its pain in the neck but well worth fixing your stupid mistake of not making a back up in the first place.
I hope this helps all who are looking for iPhoto recovery and their lovely memories.

  • How to recover iphoto library from recovery mode

My macbook pro suddenly went on Utility Disk Mode and can only be accessed through recovery mode. I cannot even view the files. I'm willing to let everything go except for the photos and videos in the iphoto library. I don't know how to access my photos on icloud and when I did, it was just my iphone's photos that are there. is there any way I can view my photos in my locked macintosh hd in other devices or computer?

Thanks for the response BDAqua, I did use Migration Assistant to transfer her data from the SuperDuper backup.  Are you suggesting that I use Migration Assistant to transfer data from the Time Machine backup?  Will that result in duplication?  Sorry, but I've no experience at all with Time Machine backups and don't know whether you can 'pick and choose' what to restore from the Time Machine using Migration Assistant.
    Cheers

  • How to recover iphoto library

This morning i was looking for a way to hide a event in iPhoto library but by mistake i deleted my whole Iphoto library in pictures folder in Finder. Now my iphoto is empty. Is there any way-out to recover those pictures. Even i emptied my trash can. Please help me. Thanks in advance

No. I assumed that if your photos - or any data - is important to you then you would have a back up. It's a basic requirement for anyone using a computer, really.
Now you're into data recovery. You'll need an app like File Salvage. This will scan your Mac and give you a lost of what's recoverable. To actually recover you'll need to purchase the app. You'll also need an external HD to recover to.

  • How to recover data in iPhoto?

How to recover data from iphoto?

I haven't done any conscious backup.
Time to start. Now. Using a computer without a back up is like driving without a seat belt. You'll be fine as long as nothing goes wrong, but if something does go wrong it'll be a much bigger mess.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • HT5043 My daughter was taking pictures in photo booth and now all of our photos from the iphoto library appear to be missing.  Any ideas how to recover them?

Does anyone know how to recover or view pictures after importing photos from photo booth?  My daughter said that she was asked if she wanted to start a "new card".  Is this term familiar to anyone.  So sad to lose all our photos....

Sorry - what exactly was done? iPhoto and PhotoBooth have no relation to each other -
If she deleted the iPhoto libreary in error then take it out of the trash and put it back in the pictures folder - if the trash has been emptied then restore your backup of the iPhoto lbiarary - that is what backups are for - to protect against mistakes and failures

Thank you very much, Kirby.  Your suggestion was exactly what I needed.  It proved to be a big help even to my One-to-One Aperture trainer at the Naperville IL Apple store.  My slideshow text, caption, and music attributes also were carried over intact to the new Aperture 3 environment.  - A.Z.

  • Mistakenly erased iphoto how to recover

I have mistakenly erased the iphoto even from thrash. How to recover the iphoto application?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

How i can recover iPhoto app i have deleted by mistake. i have got OS X "10.9.4" version.

First look, if it is still in your Trash. If yes, use "Put Back".
To download it from the App Store, launch the App Store and sign into the App Store (in the "Store" menu) with the AppleID you used when you set up your Mac and accepted iPhoto to your AppleID or when you purchased it.  Then open the "Purchases" tab of the App Store window and download iPhoto again.  You should see an "Install" button to the right of "IPhoto", if you already owned the current version of iPhoto. If your version was an earlier version and not bought from the AppStore, use the installer media you originally used to install iPhoto.

  • How do I print titles on photos

I would like to be able to print my photos with the title either on the edge of the photo or on the photo along one edge. I would also like to include the date, so years from now I know when the photo was taken. (Yes I know that I could write this on the back, but prefer having it printed with the photo.) Is there any way to do this in iphoto? (I presently use my Nikon software, which does this, but would like to switch to iphoto if I can figure out how to include the titles and dates.)
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi malachite,
no not with iPhoto. You can set up another graphics program such as PS or PS Elements as an external editor within iPhoto Preferences and add your text to the photo there and save it with the same name and flattened. The edit will then be reflected within iPhoto.

  • I need help asap. Does anyone know how to recover iMovie project that just disappeared?

I went to hit play on my iMovie project, which is finished and had been playing great. this time I hit play and the screen goes black and now it appears the project is gone. The title is still under the folders section, but no clips in there. I've looked in the Trash folder on the desktop and it's not in there. I can't locate it anywhere. I spent over 100 hours on this and am devastated, as it's for work. Does anyone have a suggestion of how to recover this project? I did save as a .mov file on my external HD, which I have re-imported - however...now it's a different looking project. I can't edit it, nor can I share it in any format under the iMovie>Share tab. Help -- someone has to have some ideas...
