  • How to recover lost music?

I connected my IPod to ITunes without realizing the settings had changed to 'automatic update' (I recently downloaded a new version of Itunes without setting it to manual update). So I lost almost all my music, since I recently changed computers ie my library is almost empty!!
How can I recover my lost music?!?

If there is no back up anywhere (on your other computer for instance), you are left with attemtping to recover the deleted music form the iPod.
This will require some data recovery software, and there's a post giving some options here.

You may have to spend money, and have a little computer knowledge and the results are variable.
Incidentally, since the setting to auto sync your iPod is an iPod setting and not an iTunes one, downloading and installing a new version of iTunes should not have changed anything.

  • Recovering lost music files after itunes 7 upgrade

Newbe here; I recently downloaded and installed ITUNES7.0.1(25.7MB)UPGRADE and was horrified to discover my ENTIRE music library disappeared(or deleted!)-how did this happen? More importantly, how do i recover the files- i performed every type of search there was on the computer but no luck- please help- many of these file were rare pieces I place on the Computer when changing computers from ibm to mac.

No it looks like I tunes deleted all my mp3s also. When I first ran 7 it crashed and I had to reboot. When I looked at my mp3 directory all files are gone and on this new system they can't be found anywhere else. Even undeletion software hasn't been able to find them.

  • How to recover lost pages files after iPad update?

My friend lost all his pages and numbers documents that were on his iPad after updating yesterday. anyone know how to get them back? they weren't saved anywhere but the iPad. are the pages and numbers files stored during the device backup?

Thanks. If it does an automatic backup when you connect it, which it seems this iPad does, then there will never be an older backup to restore from, is that right?
    Is there any other way..?
Yes - it will backup automatically. You can prevent iTunes from syncing automatically - which in turn prevents iTunes from backing up automatically as well - but when you do initiate the sync - it will always backup the iPad.
However, I have read that if you watch the progress bar at the top of the iPad when the sync process begins - you can click on the X in the progress bar to stop it from backing up and it will move to the next step in the sync process. I have never tried that myself. I would only use that method if the sync was hanging up from a bad backup and that would be another problem in itself - so you really don't want to do that.
What you can do is create a manual backup and then copy  that backup (don't remove it) into another folder on your hard drive. But you have to turn off auto sync so you can control the backup process.
I do not sync automatically - never have. If you want to turn off auto sync - Launch iTunes on your computer - go to Edit>Preferences>Devices>Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically.
Then when you connect the iPad and iTunes starts up, you can right click on the iPad name on the left and select backup. If you want to keep that backup that you just created - don't sync. Eject the iPad and quit iTunes and find the backup and copy it to another folder on your hard drive.
Read this article for more information on where you can find the backup folder.

To finally answer your specific question about having older backups - I do have 4 older backups of my iPad. I can't remember if they were created when I've restored my iPad - which I have done several times - or when the iOS was updated. Like I said - I did restore after the recent iOS update - to a backup that I created prior to the update. It was dated two days prior.
I hope I have given you some useful information - and not confused you further. I wish someone else would jump in on this thread and clarify the backup question that even I have - where did they all come from ...

  • How to recover lost video files after restoring from back up

I recently had to restore my ipad completely one day in order to update it and I was in a rush. So I took my iPad before I could restore it from a back up. So I set up the iPad as a "new" iPad and just started using it. I bought iMovie with my iTunes account on the "new" iPad and started filming from the iPad for a school project. So I edited the footage in iMovie and had a finished project. Then I went home that night and decided to just upload my most recent back up from my old iPad. In doing so I lost ALL my footage. iMovie still has everything in the correct place and says that my project is just missing some files. Is there ANYWAY I can get this footage back? Isn't it still on the iPad somewhere? Please someone help me out!

If their on your iTunes on your computer, try plugging in your iPod and dragging the files from the iTunes Library on your computer to the library on your iPod.  Hope it helps(:

  • How to recover lost video files after iOS 5 upgrade?

I upgraded iTunes today to iOS 5, and lost all my video files from my iPod touch.  When I checked iTune on my laptop, I could still see some of the video file listed under the device name and library.  However, I see nothing on my iPOD.  when I tried to sync them back to iPod, I got nothing either.  when I tried to reload some of the video files, I could see the number of video files (movies) added up.  However, I still cannot find any of the files from my iPod touch.  it's very frustrating just to go through with all the attempts.  please help.  thanks.

  • Lost music files in iTunes 10 update.

I updated my iTunes and have since noticed that several music files are missing from my library including recently purchased items from the iTunes store. I tried locating them by going to the Purchaced folder along the left side of iTunes and this folder has now completely vannished. Music that I have copied to iTunes via CD is also missing.
Any ideas as to why this has happened and how to recover my music files without having to trawl through the guts of my computer?

I lost all my music and found most of it. The purchased music I found also but it was never recognized by iTunes. Also all my playlist were gone. I still haven't figured it all out.

    A: If Windows isn't working:
You need to boot the computer from a "recovery disk or USB" that has a operating system on it and a graphical user interface to transfer files from your boot drive to a external drive.
I suggest using the Easy USB Installer to install Ubuntu 10.10 onto a 2-4 GB USB key.
    http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/
Once you have it installed, consult this page for your BIOS boot key to hold to get into the BIOS.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/a/biosaccess_pc.htm
Plug the USB into the back (if possible) of the computer, connect the external drive and enter the BIOS, set the USB as first boot and SAVE.
Boot off the USB and "Try Ubuntu/Run from disk" DON'T INSTALL.
Once in, go under the menu Places > Computer and transfer your files to the external drive just like you would in Windows, drag and drop.
B: If the computer hardware isn't working, but the drive might still work:
You'll have to remove the power cord and manually extract the hard drive. This might result in some damage.
There is a powered IDE/SATA to USB adapter for sale online for $20 that you can take that internal hard drive and use it like a external drive to access your files from another Windows machine.
C: If your iTunes content is deleted...
It might be recoverable if it hasn't been overwritten yet by fresh data.
You need to use undelete software pre-installed before the iTunes content was deleted or while on a bootable cd/USB and a external drive to transfer the recovered files.
D: If the hard drive doesn't work and...
The data isn't worth spending $2000-$3000 in a ATTEMPT at recovery, then your finished
E: If you have a "iDevice" with any content
It can be synced back into iTunes, check at iLounge what third party software works reliably now and for your version.
Once you log into your iTunes account, you can snyc only iTunes purchased content back from a iDevice
F: If any of the above is too hard, or the data is of "critical importance"
Then seek professional computer or forensic level recovery services.
    Hope this helps.

  • I Tunes has lost a large proportion of my music library.  The music in question is however still on my IPod.  Is there any way to sync backwards so the IPod updates ITunes?  Or is there any other way I can try to recover the lost music files?

I Tunes has lost quite a large proportion of my music library.  I think this may have happened when I tried to download a previous version of ITunes that failed to load.  Whatever, the music is still on my IPod.  Is there anyway files on an Ipod can be transferred back into ITunes?  Or is there any other way I can try to recover my music files?  Also, I no longer have any confidence in ITunes ability to store data efficiently and wonder if there is any way I can back up my IPod outside ITunes?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Media syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • How do I move music files from the startup disc to iTunes in the other internal hard disk os 10.5.8?

How do I move music files from the startup disc to iTunes in the other internal hard disk os 10.5.8?
The music I want to move was in iTunes but is now just files. I had to reinstall a new iTunes and lost all my old music.
    Thank you!

That article is about using your iPod as an external hard drive, to move files from one computer to another computer.  It is not related to your question.
You can't use iTunes to move song files from iPod to computer, except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can also re-download purchases).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can move song files from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your current computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library by dragging the files (or folder containing the files) to the iTunes window.  After confirming everything is there (and fixing the data issue you mentioned) you can sync the iPod.  You may want to do a Restore on the iPod, if it might have a data corruption issue, which will erase the iPod's hard drive, re-install the latest software, and set it to defautl settings.

  • I am trying to recover lost music from my I tunes library, is there any way i can sync from my I pod to my I tunes?, i am trying to recover lost music from my I tunes library, is there any way i can sync from my I pod to my I tunes?

I an trying to recover lost music that was in my I tunes library.
I now have more music on my I pod nano and want to sync this collection back to the I tunes library. Is this possiable ?
If not, can anyone give me a hint, other than the ones on the I tunes tutorial ( none of these have worked ) how I can get my music back

Yes it's possible to sync music back from a iPod back into iTunes that (I assume) wasn't purchased on the iTunes Store.
Apple allows iTunes Store purchases on devices to be reversed back into iTunes, just not cd rips and stuff like that. For that it's a one way trip to the device from iTunes.
I likely can't suggest such software here, but if you visit iLounge you can ask what is the latest software that works for your platform.
Really it only takes a mere few minutes to backup your iTunes Library and stick in a few cd/dvd's or a external drive. iTunes even has a menu command for it to make it oh so simple. Please use it and backup all your data.
Hard drives fail, computers burn up, thieves steal, stuff gets forgotten. Plan for something happening because it will.
    Good Luck
