How to recover my files on MacOS X Yosemite while the system is down, How to recover my files on MacOS X Yosemite while the system is down

My MacBook Pro it is not starting, it shots down while it is uploading the system, i tried to repair it by using the  Disc Recovery, it says  "Ishould back up all my information before trying to fix the problem as it's seem to be a problem with the disc" and there is no way to fix it, so is there any way to recover my files before i reinstall the system?

Connect it to another Mac with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable, start it up with the T key held down, and try either copying the files off or running a data recovery product.

  • How to recover .aif files

Not even sure how I did it but working on GB 10.0.2 and I get this message "Audio file xxxx.aif not found." How in the world did I lose it and more importantly, how do I recover it?

It was a .aif file.I already looked at the audio filesin show package contents and it is not there.
If it the audio in track that is missing, then it must have been deleleted before the project has been saved. Possibilities are a crash, or you created a track by duplicating another track. That will link the duplicate tracks and what you change in one track will happen in the second track as well.
It worked great but all of a sudden it disappeared along with the original one I copied. I gave up and retracked.
Where are you storing your projects? Are you syncing the projects using a kind of cloud storage? Dropbox or similar? That is risky; if you open a project before the sync has finished, package contents maybe lost.
If you backup with Time Machine, enter Time Machine, while you are viewing the package contents.  If you are lucky, the hourly backup happened, while the audio file was still there.
I've been using GB to record music for years now but this is the first time I've used. 10.0.2 and I have to say I dislike it.
Continue to set up your projects in GarageBand '11 - the installer for GarageBand 10.0 does not remove it. It should be in a subfolder of "Applications" and works well with MacOS X 10.9.x.   You can then use GB10.0 to add finishing touches, like drummers and other amps.
I can't even figure out how to remix the effects on individual tracks.
That part has changed dramatically. You are no longer supposed to remix the effects on the tracks, but to pick a predefined patch that has the effects you want.  You can only add audio unit effects, using the Smart Controls. A "must have" for GarageBand 10 is HangTime's terrific GBEffectFinder - download here:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/File%20Pages/GBEffectFinder.html
This neat utility will tell you, which effects are available for which kind of instrument track.
I'd be lost without this tool.

  • How to recover Deleted file from HARD DISK

By mistake my entire AVCHD file of 90 Mts  duration was deleted from my Hard Disk, this  I realised after a week., in the meantime I have not added or deleted any file from this hard Disk. I had given my this hard disk to my service engineer to recover the video., he has tried and recover some 40 mb file., but I cant open this recovered video file in Premiere or any other video convertor programme., also I cant get any information about Video.
Can anybody in the forum help me and suggest how to recover my deleted Video from the Hard disk

Hi, hard disk data loss is actually a hard task for many users 'cause most of them think this kind of problems is a complicated situation. Here are some tips you need to know after data loss happened.
    1. If you meet the file loss situation, keep calm and stop using your computer to do any read or write operation until you find the way to recover the lost files because any wrong operation.
    2. If you've lost a file, time is of the essence. As new files saved to Mac hard drive or storage devices, the original files gets overwritten. So do not use the drive or disk which your deleted files are stored before at all, until you have completed the scanning and recovery process.
    3. The system crashed or the files loss situation happens occasionally, so remember build a backup for the files periodically is strongly needed.
    4. If you meet the file loss situation again, stop using the Mac or storage device right now, use another computer to process the files recovery.
    5. Remember this, no matter at the normal time or after files recovery, build a backup for the files periodically is the best method to protect your files from data loss situation.

    2. How do i recover file which deleted from MAP drive...
Please help me to resolve this issue...
    Kalpesh Chauhan

As to your first problem, I am not so familiar. But, as to the second problem, I think I can help.
In fact, I have ever also accidentally deleted my hard drive files. In order to re-access them, I have also posted my question in forums, just like you. Fortunately, after browsing many related answers and threads, I just know that a third
party data recovery program can be a good chance to go on.
So, I follow some instructions in these forums and select three drive recovery freeware to go on, including Recuva, iCare Data Recovery Free and TestDisk and so on.
Finally, I have restored all my needed data back successfully with these freeware.
So, I hope it will also help you out.
PS: Never forget to back up everything important on different hard drives or places in case of any similar data recovery problems in the future.

  • I downloaded an Adobe file from my email but cannot find it on my hard drive or in recycle bin - it's in downloads but am unable to open from downloads - how can I recover the file?

I downloaded an Adobe file from my email (service provider is MWeb) but now cannot find it on my hard drive and it's not in the recycle bin. It does, however, appear in Firefox downloads but I'm unable to open it from there. How can I recover the file?

    Thanks Rob.
I actually had no clue what the core problem was caused by. So it's Windows itself...that helps some.
I'll resubmit there. It might actually have saved time for it to simply have been moved to there instead of off-topic, though I suppose you have to follow protocol.

  • How to recover lost folders and files - Pls help, help...

Some days ago I lost all of my 15 GB folders and files that stored in my Macbook Pro hard drive called DATA.  I brought my Macbook pro to an experienced computer tecnicians who providing data recovery services. To his and my suprise, after checking, scanning it a few hours, he said their is no way to recover because he did not find any trails at all.  The computer still seems working properly - I have no problem with any applications.  There are few other folders in the DATA hard disk containing pictures, computer programs still remain.  These lost folders and files contain mainly documents (word, excel, power point, pdf etc) which I accumulated in my many years working  !!!!.  I did not make a back up since last September partly because I think Mac is very safe.
The computer with me all the time on that day and only my son used Power Point to make a simple presentation on that evening - he can not save it on the folders the he normally use - All the folders and files are gone.
I will appreciate it very much if any of you can tell me what would be the possible causes and more importanly how to recover the lost folders and files.  They are very very valuable to me.
Many thanks for your kind attention

    Intel Core 2 Duo

First, did the data actually get deleted, or is it still there somewhere?  Try searching the drive for some of the documents, perhaps it's all just in another folder on that drive.
If it's truly gone, it's impossible for us to say what might have happened to make it unrecoverable.  Perhaps someone using the computer used Secure Empty Trash, or securely erased empty space on the hard drive.  Perhaps it was overwritten by other stuff before you noticed.  It's possible the hard drive is starting to fail, though this seems like an awfully specific problem for that to be the issue.
Or perhaps the tech you took the computer to didn't know what he was doing.  Why not try recovering what you can on your own?  See Recovering deleted files.
You should be aware that no computer is safe.  All computers rely on hardware that may fail and software that can have bugs.  You absolutely MUST maintain a good set of frequently-updated backups...  no fewer than two full backups of anything you don't want to lose.
(Note that my pages contain links to other pages that promote my services, and this should not be taken as an endorsement of my services by Apple.)

    hi,
    Thanks for ur reply.
But i already searched the windows and looked for that file.. But its not anywhere to be found. See first while downloading i gave the open option instead of save. So after the completion of the download the file opened automatically in winRAR. I tried to extract that file then it gave me some error. After that i closed the winrar and searched for that file in windows with search option but its not seen anywhere.

  • Mount time machine, how to open and recover .inprogress file

so this is how i fixed and mounted a time machine capsule ( it was extended journaled Case-sensitive) to MacBook Pro ( non-case sensitive) and recovered files from .inprogress file. for me it worked like a charm and lets see if this can help you too.
Found a way to figure it out! (mount drive). So I went to my gf's laptop and created a new backup file for her ( just the file or a new sparsebundle.  the info.plist , token and info.bckup are the files that we need from here ). If no mac is available, create a new backup in pc but it has to be to the same time capsule  ( the files that we need and create will point and tell the sparse bundle a new path to time capsule ) To het there you go to the sparse bundle Dmg, right click and go to "show contents". So this is how i change it, I open 2 finder windows and got each sparse bundle in it ( old one or damaged and new one), righ click on both > show contents and then  replace these files from the new one to the damaged one (  info.plist , token and info.bckup ). That's it. The time machine at least mounted on my desktop and could see the files. Now for opening the .inprogress file; go to Automator >new workflow > and drag in this order;  get selected finder items, get folder contents and open finder items. While the .inprogress file i selected, press "run" or play button in Automator. That's it. Now you may try to drag to desktop but it will say "the volume has the wrong case sensitive for a backup" but you should have access. Now for copying or move to somewhere; get another hard drive ( external) and format it to the same as time capsule ( extended journaled case sensitive is my case), once it's done, right click and go to info> at the bottom uncheck "ignore ownership" and close it. Now you can copy from .inprogress file to just formatted hard drive and from hard drive to laptop. Here's the annoying part; it will treat it as a special folder ( when you paste it in you desktop it's gonna ask for password, if you wanna move it somewhere else it's going to do it as well. But at least you can recover the file ) . once this process It's done just reformat your time capsule.
    Cheers,

well, after you transfer everything to new hard drive and to avoid the putting a password everytime you move the folders, richt click on drive > get info > check again the "ignore ownership" option and you shouldnt have any problems transfering back folders

  • Everytime I open iphoto, my computer tells me A photo has been found in the iPhoto Library that was not imported.  Would you like to import it.  no matter what I do, iphoto puts the pic in recovered files.  How do I fix this?

Everytime I open iphoto, my computer tells me,  A photo has been found in the iPhoto Library that was not imported.  Would you like to import it.  If I import it, a message comes up Unreadable file, the following file could not be imported. them it tells me where the file is and it cannot be opened.  If I do not import, then it says,The photo has been placed in the folder /Users/patrick*******/Pictures/iPhoto Library Recovered Photos_4.  It will just keep adding to recvovered photos.  This drives me crazy!!!!!!!  How do I fix this?

I had this problem some months ago and the following solution from Terrence Delvin put things right:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.
However, since connecting a memory stick to my computer, I now have the same problem again.  This time there is no folder called 'Import' or 'Importing' so what should I do?

  • How can I recover files created in the guest account?

I set up a guest account for the kids to use, and my wife then used my Mac to type up a word document (for over 3 hours) and saved it at the end of the evening. The next day she returned, and it had gone! I now read that the "Guest account" deletes all files when the computer is switched off (what idiot decided to make this deletion so immediate and so permanent, I am perplexed, why not at least put them in a temporary folder?).
This document must still be there, surely, just "invisible". Please please, how can I get it back without parting with hundreds of pounds for file recovery document, it is just one file from yesterday!
(I switched from PCs to Mac's when we bought a new Vista laptop at work and couldn't find the "file" and "open" commands on a drop-down menu top-left of screen - the Mac-fans at work promised me that Macs were "so intuitive" and "so much better than a PC". They lied. Macs and PCs are both designed by geeky-types who want more and more complex systems, when all I want is a computer that does what I ask without too much clever stuff (like deleting 3 hours of work because my wife happened to be in the wrong account). I have wasted as long trying to find said file....I'm so depressed.

    Paul -
I'm sorry you've lost files, but when you set up an account as Guest, there's a message that clearly states "When a guest user logs out, all information and files in the guest account's home folder are deleted". If you want an account where files are retained, you should create an Admin or Standard type.
You will need to use data recovery techniques to see if your file can be recovered. The more that you use your computer, the greater the risk that the file will be overwritten. You can contact a professional data recovery service such as DriveSavers (which will be expensive, but you can judge the value of the file) or try something like Data Rescue. The latter has a demo which you can install to determine if your file can be recovered, and then, on purchase, you can actually recover the file.
    Good luck!

  • How can I use time machine to recover my iWeb09 files?

I read that iWeb stores one's website pages in the domain folder which can be located at ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb. Can I use time machine to recover my iWeb09 files? If so, how? -I tried. I entered my Time Machine back up, and went back in time and brought the domain file forward but it opened only my current site pages, not the ones I am trying to recover. And it says the Domain file was last modified in October 2007 which is crazy because I've been using iWeb a lot and have published many pages. It seems like the uncorrupted pages, which I am trying to recover, existed somewhere on my computer at one point in time and space, less than a week ago, becuse I just published my site to a new hosting service since Apple will soon stop web hosting. So why can I not find them using time machine?

I continued searching and read another person's advise to down load an app named "Find File," then search for .sites. She said spotlight doesn't always find all files. So I did and sure enough, when I searched for .sites I found another Domain package, which I have no idea how it was created but which, it ends up, was the one actually being used by iWeb. So I went to that package then did the time machine and went back to before my web pages became corrupted. I had to delete corrupt blog pages out of my website menu to get iWeb to upload the other page changes even to a local folder.
So I went to that newly found Domain, went back in time, then brought that forward and as you pointed out the domain package had the parts of the pages, the files and jpegs, but not the structure/layout of the pages. So, I guess I gave up on finding the old pages.
Those pages still exist on the Apple hosting server but iWeb doesn't not reverse publication. Cyberduck would bring back the files and bits and peices but again not the pages as a total entity. I'm preparing for the end of Apple website hosting (next month?) and am republishing my old site. I decided to use a new domain name. So my entire original site is still totally intact on the web under the original domain name, on my mobile me site, I guess it will be there till sometime in June?
My problems started when I tried to publish my website to the new server. It just would not publish the whole website in one session. So I decided to do it a few pages at a time. Some pages went up, but as I added more, for some unknown reason the, blog pages, (about 70 subpages),  which had aleardy uploaded just fine to the new server, became corrupt and locked up iWeb. Of course once I deleted the corrupt pages I didn't want to continue publishing the site to the host until I found and reinserted uncorrupted pages, knowing publishing changes would delete the already published pages.
At first I thought it was the hosting server's fault, but when I discovered that it wouldn't publish even to a local fold I was able to locate the cause within iWeb, deleted those pages then tested by publishing to a local folder. iWeb worked locally, so I knew I had found the problem pages. Well this is way more than you wanted to know. Thanks for your advise but I'll just start the blogging pages over.

  • How to recover files off unmountable seagate external drive

I have been using a Seagate Backup Plus external drive for several months on my iMac destop. The external drive runs off of USB no other power source. I unmounted it the other day to use on my mac power pc and transferred mp4 files onto drive without problems. Unmounted drive and plugged it back to iMac and I am getting prompt The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer  choices of initialize, ignore, eject buttons. I have shut down and plugged it back in and reset the PRAM. I can see the unmounted device in disk utility and also I can see that it's plugged into the USB port. I have tried plugging the device into the mac power pc, macbook and pc all but pc give me the same response. On the PC I can't see the drive at all, though it has power and can be ejected. I would like to find out how to mount this drive to retrieve the files off of it. I am also wondering what to do with this drive, ie.e reformat it (if and when I retrieve files) or try to return it (bought it in Sept. 2012). Any help on this subject is greatly appreciated!

  • How can I recover deleted files

The Issue I'm Experiencing, In Brief...
Somehow I discarded a great deal of files from my HD, into my Mac's trash can.
Furthermore to add grave insult to minor injury, I proceeded to empty that same trash can.
Though I wouldn't know, I do feel slightly hopeful that a DIY remedy - complex, vastly
unkown yet free of charge - exists...that a few bright Mac- enthusiasts know of such a solution
and that but still a few of those same beings are willing to help me out with such an issue.
I thank you sincerely for so much as taking the time to read about my screw-up.
    C.J. Mooney

Hey - this is my very first 'messaging' experience.
Late last night I was prompted to seek help - world wide, today, with my new found problem.
Wanting to make significant hard drive space available I managed to exceed my intended goal. Wanting to download and install various 'live packs' - utilized in the process of music production via software created by the Ableton company - I knew that I'd need to 'throw out' about 30 GB - more if I could.
Anyway, having spent the time downloading more than a dozen such Live Packs...and installing them thereafter...it didn't take to long for me to begin pondering what could have happened to ALL my created tracks, instruments, etc.
My best guess at this point is that somehow when I threw huge groupings of files into the trash - parts of what I had intended to get rid of possibly came to be attached somewhere/somehow to the very files which I thought to be most safe and sound.
Realizing the extent of what had occurred - it took some time to know for certain I had thrown away ALL of my created files - I began to imagine going about fixing my brand new, painful problem.
Though I am far from being computer savy, etc. - I have this notion that if only I were more aware of my mac's abilities, etc. I could perhaps bring my lost files back from the dead.
Late last night, I learned that there are software products out there to solve just this problem - but, being unemployed I am unable to pay the $80 asked for.
I've learned that such programs are free of charge for Windows customers, but not Mac owners...they say it's much more difficult to fet back files which have been placed in the trash and then thrown out on a Mac - hence the fee I suppose.
    Regardless of everything, I
DO hold faith in the possibility that someone (even many, perhaps) not only knows how to go about correcting my issue, but knows how to go about teaching me such a process (i.e. YouTube, etc.), and wants to be responsible for the teaching of this remedy free of charge.
Maybe I'm completely out to lunch and the remedy involved is both incredibly difficult, without guarantee, and only possible through $80 plus fee.
My personality enjoys others, however, this process of sending my question 'out there' for an answer comprises a brand new experience...and I hope that those who come into contact with my writing are neither left confused nor irritated.
I greatly look foward to the possibility of being helped out by someone who is able and willing to help another person.
I look forward to the chance to hear back from another person, not a salesman or even an existing friend of mine own - I imagine I would enjoy being helped with my current mishap by another human being who wants to help me...how could such an experience not feel pretty decent - I mean an interaction free of title, roles, role-playing...pretension ad nauseum (as found anywhere in Western 'civiliation').
[oops! perhaps way too much writing...then again, it is a personal first...]
Thank you sincerely to anyone who should so much as read my stated issue!!

I have no knowledge of any way to recover trashed filed except with a paid piece of software. I have used Data Rescue 3 with excellent results, but it's $100.
I don't know of any free software that can retrieve trashed data.
    Sorry,
    Clinton
