How to recover previous system?

Hi All,
I need some help with Mac OS X. During a process to reinstall Mac OS I lost my previous system folder. Any help tips how to recover my lost data would be greatly appreciated.
While I was reinstalling the OS X I picked option to archive the old system and I was able to see the folder named "previous system" but this folder disappeared after the software update. Now that folder looks like a developer folder with a hammer. I think that my data is still there and I just don't know how to recover it.
In my past life I was a PC, Now a Mac & a little lost.
Thank You
Guava

Yes, I installed Mac OS X Leopard Version 10.6. When I installed it from my DVD, it gave me an option to archive and continue,
no, something is wrong here. snow leopard installer doesn't give you any such options. no kind of snow leopard install could possibly create a previous systems folder. and it would keep your data directly not in any such folder. I suspect installed leopard. go to apple menu->about this mac. what os x version does it say you have. also, it seems clear from your post that you don't back up. is this right?
which I did and later on I found my previous system in a folder. After a few days I used software updates from apple website and my previous system folder got replaced by a developer folder with a pic of a hammer.
All of my documents and pictures disappeared. Also, my iWork is gone. I am not reinstalling the iWork until I get some feedback from this forum.
Thank you

    just a follow up on Torstens reply. You will see the discovery records show up in the console without having the client installed. That will be corrected when clients perform a hardware inventory re-sync. It all happens automatically, no panic and don't
    reinstall the clients.

  • How to recover the system?

    Hi everybody
    I´ve recently bought a mac mini with mavericks. How can I made a security copy of Mac OS X in order to recover my system in case of hard drive failure?
    Thank you very much for your attention.
    Manu

    Not needed, If the Mac originally came with Mavericks or even Lion, you can boot to internet recovery mode without a hard disk
    OS X: About OS X Recovery
    Other you boot to recovery mode and restore an external hard drive for the internal drive. For more info see:

  • How to recover database SYSTEM datafile get corrupt ?

    Database is in ARCHIVELOG mode, and the datafile belonging to SYSTEM tablespace gets corrupted. Up to what point can I recover the database ?
    A. Until last commit.
    B. Until the time you perform recovery.
    C. Until the time the datafile got corrupted.
    D. You cannot recover the SYSTEM tablespace and you must be re-create the database.
    and 1 more doubt :
    If redologfiles are not multiplexed and redolog blocks get corrupt in group 2, and archiving stops. All redolog files are filled and database activity is halted.
    DBWR has written everything to disk. What command can be used to proceed further ?
    A. recover logfile block group 2;
    B. alter database drop logfile group 2;
    C. alter database clear logfile group 2;
    D. alter database recover logfile group 2;
    E. alter database clear unarchived lofile group 2;
    Edited by: user642367 on Sep 18, 2008 8:45 PM

    1. A. Since the DB is in archivelog mode, so you can always restore and recover the whole DB including system tablespace datafile till last SCN generated provided the redo record is available in archive/online logfiles.
    2. E. Since only redolog is corrupted so archiver won't proceed and hence a db hang is obvious, So, in order to proceed further you need to clear online (un archived log file) and then db will work as usual. Care should be taken that you must take a full backkup of DB(cold backup wherever feasible) as soon as possible after issuing this command. As now you don't have redo info in archivelog files to recover the db in case of a crash.
    Please go through Oracle 10g DB Administrators guide (available on OTN) for more details.

  • How to use previous system

    I know this has got to be a common question but I can't find the answer anywhere.If I reinstalled tiger and alot of things are not working correctly, or is asking for serial numbers etc when starting an application how do I get the information from the previous folder to the hard drive thanks james

    Without knowing what software you're talking about, nobody can make any guess as to where the registration info may be or what files may be needed. Your best and fastest route would just be to re-enter the serial numbers manually.
    In the future, please use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to make an exact clone of your system to an external drive before reinstalling the OS.

  • How to recover previously bought apps from other region?

    I just got myself $10 itunes giftcard and the only way to use it by changing region to usa. So, i change my region to usa. I found out that my previously bought apps are gone and when i'm trying to change my region again, it says i nid to spend all my remaining credits which is $0.04 . Is there any ways for to change my region to my original region. Please. I hope that apple staffs can help me. I have bought many apps before. I don't want to lose it for some $10 worth apps. Please...

    iTunes Store content is country specific. When you change countries, you no longer receive app update notifications on your iOS device or in iTunes for the apps you purchased in your original country, nor do those Apps appear on your new country's Purchased page.
    However, you will still be able to download those applications again for free if they are present on your new country's store (even if they are updated).You will not be charged and the download will not appear on your Purchased page. If a previously purchased app is not available in your new country, you will not be able to download it again.
    The following article describes how to review your account's purchase history so that you may view the titles of the Apps you previously purchased:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2727
    With regards to changing the country associated with your account back to what it was before, you will need to deplete the remaining store credit on your account first.
    You can use your remaining store credit by purchasing an item, and paying the extra amount using a valid US credit card, debit card, or PayPal account.
    I you don't have an alternate payment method you can provide, then you will need to contact iTunes Store Customer Support via http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/

    In users manuals you can find detailed description about recovering and recovery media creation.

    Of course easiest way to install recovery image is to use HDD recovery option as suggested by Randy.

  • How to recover previously bought movies from other region?

    hi,
    I bought many movies in Italian language, that I want to restore on my mac now that I moved to USA and changed region of my account. How can I do?
    Andrea

    If you bought them from the Italian iTunes store then you won't be able to redownload them (assuming that they are still in the store) unless you return to Italy and have an Italian billing address on your account - you have to be in a country to use its store, including for redownloading.
    You haven't got a copy of them on your backup of your downloads/library, or on an iOS device device that you can copy them back from ?

  • How to recover my windows system

    how to recover my system and other application thats i got bundled with my laptop while purchasing ,i tried to press f11 but nothing happens i mean is there any way to get the process started through a bootable cd or dvd or any helpfull cmd commands that would help me to recover my windows..  i just cant figure it out ,alone doing it will take much time ..any suggestions would be great .....

    Hi,
    There are Three options available to try and reinstall Windows - make sure to back-up any important files first.
    1.  Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button and see if this launches the Start-up Menu - if it does, try the f11 option here to see if this will start Recovery Manager.
    2.  If you can still boot in to Windows, hold down the Windows Key and press R.  Into the Run Box type compmgmt.msc and hit enter.  Click Disk Management in the left pane and when the partitions have loaded, right click the Recovery Partition and mark it as 'Active'.  Close all open windows and then restart - if this has worked, the notebook will boot from the Recovery Partition upon restart.
    3.  You can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
    If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.
    If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
    If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

  • How do I copy over files from "Previous System 1" to my current system

    Hello.
    I was having trouble with starting up my computer. I used a friend's computer to check Apple's Knowledge Base. The suggestion was to perform an Arhive and Install and to select the option of preserving my user and network settings.
    I could not locate my Panther Install disc (my previous OS was 10.3.9). However, I did find my Jaguar 10.2 Install disc so I decided to use that instead (my disorganization is truly exasperating).
    I thought once my system was again accessible (which it now is) I'd be able to reinstall Panther from the Archive even though I still can't locate my Panther Install disc. Is that possible?
    I am, of course, having trouble using many of my 10.3.9 applications as they are incompatible with my currently loaded Jaguar 10.2 OS. I am unable to print, get my email, or use countless applications.
    I'd sure appreciate help and suggestions as to how I might reaccess my 10.3.9 OS from the Archive so that I can avoid having to repurchase and reload Panther to get my original system back.
    Is there a simple way to copy/move my previous system from "Previous System 1" back to my current system?
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    P.S. I foolishly neglected to maintain a back-up of my data onto an external disk. If I can get things back to where they were, I've learned my lesson.

    Lona:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    As Kappy pointed out, you need Panther install disks to install Panther. However, you may be able to recover your data files from the Previous System Folder.
    You can purchase Panther disks from applerescue. Your computer will support Tiger if it meets the minimum system requirements for Tiger.
    Please don't hesitate to post back should you have further questions.
    Good luck.

  • How do I do back to previous system folder after archive and install?

    Did an archive and install (retaining my existing user account), only to discover it was unnecessary. (Turns out the problem was hardware-related.)
    How do I go back to using my previous system folder?

    FloydianSlip wrote:
    Huh. Hardly seems to be worth "archiving" if you can't go back to the archive.
    The purpose of an *Archive & Install* is to install a fresh, known-good copy of the OS, while preserving in the archive all the files from the previous copy of the installed OS that you might potentially need for some reason. (This is why it is called an Archive & Install.)
    However, since any of these archived files might have been damaged in some way since they were installed or created, or in some way conflict with a freshly installed OS, they cannot be considered "known-good" without further testing & should not be reintroduced haphazardly into the "live" system.
    The value of this install method should be obvious if you consider that if the OS is sufficiently damaged it will not run the computer, either at all or well enough to recover from whatever damage is done. Without this option, you would have to erase the existing startup disk completely (with the *Erase & Install* method), losing everything created or installed besides what is contained in the OS installer.
    The closest equivalents to the kind of archive that you can "go back to" are cloning the entire drive or using the 'restore from Time Machine' option from the installer DVD's Utilities menu, assuming you use Time Machine.
