How to recover to factory settings

Hi All,
I've been having some problems whilst trying to recover my HP Pavilion Dv6 to Factory Settings. I'm running a 64-bit Operating system, and have 4 GB installed RAM and AMD Turion Dual Core M520 Processor.
Simply put, I'd like to make a fresh start on my HP Dv6 and would like to revert to factory settings- i've manually backed up some files by inserting a CD and dragging the files across (burning them.) but was unable to carry out the official backup, as it kept stopping at 31% and saying it couldn't complete the Backup successfully.
Anyway, my problem is that I've checked various online forums and still haven't found a solution to my problem. Firstly, I didn't have the PC recovery manager and had to get that installed. However, it had various .dll files missing- whenever i found them on the internet and installed them, it would find a new error. Finally, the last error I received was this- 'The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.'
Now, before anyone suggests any other methods like trying F11, i have and it just booted normally (I saw this problem on many other forums.) I've also tried to create a system image, that failed spectacularly- all it did was restart the computer. Like i said, I don't actually have a backup that windows recognises, just some files that I dragged across to burn to a disk (It was treated like a USB Stick).
That's my issue. I'd greatly appreciate a fast reply, but if it's not possible then it isn't possible I guess
Thanks a lot to anyone who  takes the time to reply  ^o^

Hi:
When your recovery can't be done, then you have two choices as I see it.
1. order a set of recovery disks for your notebook from HP by following the info at the link below.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07143&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lan...
2. Use this workaround (or use it until you get your recovery disks). Using this workaround will not include the programs that came with your PC.
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to DVD's for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • Recovering to Factory Settings

I called Toshiba customer service about a week ago for some issues I had with my laptop (overheating, freezing, crashing) and I was told to recover my laptop to factory settings, and of course I get a new issue: I get an error message when I try to restore, saying windows has encountered a problem. Any ideas?

Hi! When asking for help, always post your model. It can be found on the bottom of your laptop. How are you trying to restore back to factory setting?

  • How can i reset factory settings on imac running osx 10.5.8 without setup discs?

Hi, I just got my hands on my first Mac which is second hand and I want to wipe the hard drive clean and start a fresh.
The system I have is a iMac with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running Mac OS X version 10.5.8.
How can I reset this Mac to factory settings as I didn't get the setup discs with the computer?

Phone Apple and order replacements, or if you don't need iLife, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.

  • Pavillion DM1 - 41255A not working after trying to recover to factory settings

After obtaining a virus via a download of the incredibar toolbar, which hasn't been resolved through the use of anti virus, anti malware software, I attempted a recover back to factory settings.
But it ran through the "recovery" unusually quickly and now it displays an error " no bootmgr" file.  The notebook was bought as a present in the UK in March 2012, the product number is A8H99EA#ABU.  Model no DM1-41255A.  It was sold without the recovery disks.  Please advise what I should do next to fix this.
    Kind Regards

I would purchase a recover disk set from HP or an HP Partner.
Is was sold with a recovery partition capable of producing a set of recovery disks. When it was set up, the notebook asked if you were ready to make a set of recovery disks. Unfortunately, it would have been less expensive to pay attention to what it said. A disk set will cost around $20-30.00.

Install or Reinstall Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

Two other ways besides what scott metnioned:
    1. Through the MODE button:
    - Power off the AP.
    - While keeping the MODE button pressed, power on the AP.
    - Still keep the MODE button pressed until the Status LED turns to red and then release it:
    2. Via installing the recovery image:
    - Download the recovery image for 3500 from Cisco site.
    - on AP Console write the command "Debug capwap console cli".
    - Then write the commadn "Archive download-sw /overwrite /reload tftp:///"

It will work definitly. But turn off the phone first and make sure you push all three buttons tight and turn on the phone. You have to keep them pressed until handshaking logo or pin enter is appear. I have use it so many time since my beloved 6600.

  • How do I restore factory settings on my MacBook Air?

I have sold my MacBook Air (bought in August 2011) and I need to restore factory settings.  Can someone please help?

As quoted from apple member Kappy
Boot from the Recovery HD by restarting the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and "R" keys until the computer starts from the Recovery HD. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
At this point all your data are securely removed. You can shut down the computer or reinstall Lion from the main menu.

  • Does anyone know how to reset to factory settings?

I bought my mac used and was told by the seller to take my mac to apple to have them restore it. I bought snow leopard but my mac will not install it. I am thinking that if I go back to factory settings everything will work again on here. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Call Apple to get replacement DVDs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
    Then, follow these steps:
    1. Insert the Mac OS X disc and hold the C key while your computer is starting.
    2. Select the language, go to Utilities menu > Disk Utility, choose your hard disk at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the drive.
    3. Close Disk Utility and reinstall Mac OS X.
After doing that, open  > Software Update, and install the most recent version. Finally, you should be able to upgrade to Snow Leopard, only if you are using 10.4 or 10.5. To check the Mac OS X version, open  > About this Mac
