How to recover unsaved text in Text Edit when 10.4 crashes

My powerbook crashed while I was working on file in Textedit. Is there any way to get the unsaved text?

Thanks for the link but I still need help.
What I want to know is whether OS X stores the crashed text edit file somewhere in a hidden directory of some kind that can be accessed via the Terminal or sth. If anyone knows about this and knows how I could get to it, please let me know.
I've changed the preferences in TextEdit so that it auto saves stuff for the future , but that doesn't really help trying to recover what happened before that.
Any help much appreciated.

Hi,
if your text edit value is stored in 'lv_string' variable.
then before exporting the value to excel you have to remove CL_ABAP_CHAR_UTILITIES=>NEWLINE
that is '#' from the variable lv_string.
for that use code some thing like this.
REPLACE ALL OCCURRENCES OF CL_ABAP_CHAR_UTILITIES=>NEWLINE in lv_string WITH space.
I think this will do the trick.

That's the same question:

Answer: you need something unique in that object you can get a handle on.
Or you use the selection a user of your script is doing and work with that selection…
A "scrollable frame" is nothing special. What it makes it a "scrollable frame" is the DPS software.
So you have to look for attached labels on the object, that identify the object for the PDS plug-in "Overlay Creator" as a "scrollable frame". That's possible with the "extractLabel("KeyString")" function. But you need to know the appropriate key-string in advance.
In another of your thread in the DPS forum, I basically answered the question how to obtain those key-strings.
When knowing the key-string you could loop through all your page items (you can skip all text frames) in the allPageItems-collection, to identify the "scrollable frame" by extracting the right label.
If you have more than one "scollable frames" you need a second unique identifier for the particular object.
That could be nearly any property.
Keep in mind, there is no "scrollableFrames" collection in the DOM !

Use ProRes 4444 codec in order to preserve transparency (alpha channel).

Make a copy or two of the document and keep it safe.
Open the TextEdit document.
Click "File" menu in the TextEdit menubar and select "Duplicate"
A new copy with" copy" attached to the title will be created.
Click "Save" from the TextEdit "File" menu in the menu bar.
Give it a name and answer "Where".
Click File format popup box and select Word...

I want a text edit UI element in a table .I do not want input field because text entered can be very long and whole text cant be seen then.Is there any way to increase the width of input field if i insert an input field ? or what can be other solution for this?

Hi Govind,
You can't insert Text Edit as a cell variant in table. But you can increase the 'Width' property of Input Field, say to 500px or as per your requirement, so that you can display the full text at one go. Or you can bind the 'Width' property to a context and set the width at run time as per the text length.

Could you tell me the way to HIDE the text edit box which appears in the UWL preview of some tasks used to include a note?
It is supposed that filling NOTES in the Sections to exclude iView property would do it but I'm not getting the expected result.
Neither including the property DecisionUserNote to false in the XML configuration tasks...

What version of the Universal Worklist are you using? This is really important as I know that there was a fix with regards to the UserDecisionHandler. The following are the values that should be maintained with this propery:
Memo is turned on by specifying u201Ctrueu201D as a value.
<Property name="UserDecisionNote" value="true"/>
Mandatory memo is specified by putting u201Cmandatoryu201D to value.
<Property name="UserDecisionNote" value="mandatory"/>
Memo is disabled by using u201Cdisabledu201D as a value.
<Property name="UserDecisionNote" value="disabled"/>
After changing configuration in regards to decision note cache should be cleared.
If this doesn't help please let me know the version you are using so I can check and see if there is a patch available for your version.

How can I retain text clarity when reducing an image?

I need to use a couple of screen shots in an e-learning course. The screen shots contain text and when I try to reduce the sizes of these images the text becomes fuzzy. I've just worked out how to reduce an image size in Photoshop. (I'm not the most proficient user; I bumble through processes when I need it.) I've used 'bicubic' and 'bicubic sharper' in the reduction process, but both produce a fuzzy appearance. Is there a way that I can reduce these images while retaining as much textual clarity as possible?
Please note that the images have not been created in Photoshop. And I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but I'm using SnagIt for my screen grabs.

The images will be used in an e-learning course which I am creating in Articulate Storyline. I don't know if you know anything about Storyline, so I guess you could say it's like an interactive PowerPoint.
The function of these images (screen grabs) in the course will be to show users how to use the various navigational tools (e.g. click an X to exit the screen).
Personally, I don't think the clarity of the text matters for what I'm trying to achieve, but other people at my work think it does. I also think I should know how to do this for future reference.

How to make scanned text editable in Pages?

My scanner (Canon 9000F) will convert a document to an rtf file but when I drag it to Pages the text layout fragments into an unusable mess. Is there OCR software that works easily and well with Pages? Any other suggestions? Basically I want to scan documents, import into Pages, keep the text layout and be able to edit the text. Thanks!!

Probably your scanner's OCR is adding spaces and returns in odd places, at the ends of lines in the original for example.
It is not Pages that is messing with the text, it is the text that is a mess. You need to clean it up.
There is software to do this such as TextSoap.
Depending if there is a pattern to what the OCR has done you can also fix it by doing a series of Search and Replaces for for example multiple returns, spaces and tabs. There is also a procedure for fixing linebreak errors as well, but you have to look at what is in the text to work out how to fix it.

If the backup is made after the messages were deleted, then you won't be able to get them back via an iTunes restore. However, you may be able to use a third-party program to look at the backup made after the messages were deleted and see what information about those messages is recoverable.
One program, the one I work on, is called Decipher TextMessage. Our software will scan the text-message database and show you what information (whole and incomplete) was found that has been previously deleted. We've had a lot of success helping folks recover their deleted text messages -- it doesn't always work 100% since we're at the mercy of how the database works but it's worth a shot to see what you can find!
