How to redeem a Australian Gift Card in the UK?

I have received a Australian ITunes Gift Card by mail and when I redeem it, it wont let me because its Australian. What shall I do?

Except you are in the UK. The iTunes store not only requires payment in a form from the same country as the store (eg. credit card with billing address in the same country as the store, or gift card in the same currency as the store) but it checks the IP address range you are connecting from. A UK connection is not going to allow you to shop the Australian store, even if using an Australian-based method of payment.
At least, I've never been able to get it to work from the USA even using a new AppleID with a foreign iTunes gift card. You seem to need 3 things - a payment method in the same country as the store you are using, a billing or mailing address in the same country, and need to be connecting from a network within that country.

Open iTunes and go to Redeem
Enter any code and click Redeem, it will prompt you for a correct code
do the same a couple more times until a new item pops up saying "Please re-enter your code or Get Help"
The 'get help' bit is a link so click on that, you will then get to a Code Redeem Support page where you can input the serial number, providing the serial belongs to a card that has not been previously redeemed then you will get the amount credited to your account

No, it's not currently possible to transfer a redeemed card to a different account, and you also won't be able to use it to gift content to the newer account (you can only gift via a credit card) - so the amount will remain linked to that old account

When you redeem an iTunes gift card it is simply added as credit to the Apple ID of your choice. Once it is on the account as credit it can be used for anything you can purchase with your Apple ID (apps, music, movies, rentals... Anything ).

Orange (the UK mobile phone company) have a promotion called 'Orange Thursday' or 'Orange FilmToGo' where they offer a free iTunes rental of a particular film each Thursday. I can get this to work on my iPad, on my iPhone and on my Mac - but not, sadly, on my AppleTV (and the TV is where I like to watch films).
So my question is - how does one redeem an iTunes Gift Card on the AppleTV. I'm using the original, Mac based, AppleTV - but I guess that this would be of equal interest to version 2 AppleTV owners.

To be honest I'm not sure you can do do that from the Apple TV, but if you can you'd need to redeem in iTunes prior to rental, so it may be just as easy to rent your movie in iTunes too, then transfer it to the Apple TV 1.
