How to reduce background noise level using Premiere Elements

How do I reduce the background noise level using Premiere Elements?

Welcome to the forum.
PrE has a few Effects, that might help, but an Audio-editing program is much, much better. I use Adobe Audition, but the free Audacity is pretty handy.
This ARTICLE will give you more tips.
Good luck,

  • How to reduce background noise using garageband?

I have a video file that contains quite a bit of background noise (just basic camera noise mostly) and I was wondering how to reduce or remove that using Garageband. I have read in other discussions that I could use the graphic equalizer, but I don't know what that is or how to use it. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could get rid of this background noise?

I'd suggest looping a piece of silence in your sound in Garageband (using the c key to turn cycling on) and listening to just the background noise. Then open a 31-band EQ as an effect on the track and start pulling down frequencies. If it is mainly hissing and rumble, you might be able to eliminate much of it using EQ.
Another solution is to open the Visual EQ and check the analyze box, and then loop/cycle play back your track so it loops just the silence with noise. This will allow you to see in the Visual EQ window what frequencies make up your background noise. Then I'd suggest using a 31-band EQ and gently start pulling down the frequencies that are dominant in your noise. Go carefully and listen as you do it, you might be affecting they sound that you want.
To avoid making the audio you want sound thin and hollow, think about these aspects:
For male voices, most of the wanted sound is between 125 Hz and 8 KHz
For female voices: between 300 Hz and 12 KHz
So basically drag the faders on the EQ on the frequencies outside this range. I'd suggest a 45 to 60 degree slope down on the EQ, so it's not a harsh transition.
It does depend on your source audio. Is it music? Speech? I use the above as a guide You have to experiment and listen as you go. It helps to turn the EQ on and off during playback to hear the before and after your adjustments too...
    This is great, oz.
But do you have a video showing how it is done ?
My source are vocal singing ...

I am actually recording voice in iphone. How can i ignore the background noises other than the person who is speaking...

There is no filter in FCE that can eliminate background noise separately from the sound you want to preserve.
    SoundSoap can do this.

  • How to reduce background noise of a conference recording..

I've made a recording on a digital camera in a conference. There's background noise, hissing and people coughing, cutlery noise etc that i'd like to minimize so that the speaker's voice comes clearer.
Anyone with good references or tips for that?
    Many thanks..

if the sounds are during the speech, there is no really perfect solution. you might try using the graphic EQ to lower some of the higher frequencies (cutlery and hiss) and boost some of the lower-mid tones (where speech is). also the Gate can be used to silence low bg noise in the silent passages.

  • How to reduce re-rendering clips in Premiere Elements 12

Each time I restart a Project in Premiere Elements 12 the timeline indicates that I need to re-render the clips. Is there away to avoid excess rendering? Thanks.

    don_
Your question is a long standing issue that seemed to have peaked around Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 and seems to be independent of computer operating system, scratch disk locations, and QuickTime versions among other things. And Adobe has not come out with an explanation to date as far as I have ever seen.
But, let me make sure that I am interpreting your question correctly.
Are you saying that, after you save/close a project whose Timeline had been rendered for preview purposes, the re-opened project presents with an orange line over the Timeline content with the implication that you are looking at an unrendered Timeline? If that is the case, please read on.
I will dig out the unabridged version of what I have written about this in the past. But, for now, the abridged version.
    1. Although the color indicator implies that the Timeline content is "unrendered", that is, you are not getting the best possible preview of what you are seeing in the Edit Mode monitor preview, the preview files that were originally generated are alive and well in their hard drive save location. Best guess is that the link between the preview files and the project are getting broken and are not repairable, short of rendering the Timeline content again if absolutely necessary for preview purposes.
    2. In the re-opened project, rendering again to turn the orange line to green (best possible preview) can be done for the whole of the afflicted content or selectively (just segment) by setting the WorkArea Bar gray tabs to span just the area to be rendered.
    3. My philosophy on this is to move on or re-render all or part if indicated. You have rendered the area previously and should know what that is going to look like...unless of course you make changes in the re-opened project.
This one has an unforgetable history going back several versions and apparently surfacing again in the present and still without the whys.
Please review and let us know if I have targeted you question.
    Thanks.

  • How to reduce background noise

I shot a few interviews I'd like to use for a documentary. All except one were recorded with an external mike. Unfortunately, the one recorded with the built in is very noticably worse quality. There's a lot of background hissing, etc when the volume is normalized with the other clips. The content of the interview is very good and I'd like to use it.
I know there's no noise reduction feature in iMovie 08. Can anyone recommend a way to improve the quality and reduce noise? Maybe Garage Band? Would iMovie 06 help much? Thanks.

GarageBand has some noise reduction tools that may help. I haven't played with them much so you will have to experiment. I am looking at GarageBand 09, but I think a similar function is in 08.
In GarageBand, your voice track will be a real instrument track, and you can apply a noise gate which suppresses the volume, and you can apply a compressor effect which is called vocal compression.
There may be better ways as well. If you post a question of how to do this in the GB discussion, you will probably get some good answers.
I would try GB first because you already have it. There are more sophisticated and more expensive tools available like Logic.
To get the clip into GB, there are a couple of ways.
The easiest way is to get a third party free application called MPEG streamclip.
In iMovie select the clip with the bad audio. Right-click (or control-click) and select REVEAL IN FINDER. You should see the clip in a Finder Window in an event file. Drag and drop this clip onto MPEG Streamclip. You should be able to export it using File/Export Audio... in Streamclip. Now drag the audio clip you just saved into GB. Do the sound edits. Then save it.
You can drag the file you just saved back into iMovie 08 and drop it on the clip where it came from in your project. You will want to select the Audio adjustments for the clip and turn the volume down to zero, so that all you hear is this new sound attachment.
You can also do this without MPEG Streamclip. Just start a new project in iMovie. Drag this clip (or clips) into the project. Share using QuickTime to an Audio only codec, such as MP3. And then edit it in GB as before.

  • HELP! "Reduce background noise" changes from audio clip to clip, even though the percentage is the SAME. At my wit's end...

I am working on a lengthy editing project and am near tears at this point. Any and all advice would be deeply appreciated.
I am using  a2012 MacBook Pro running Mavericks (10.9.5) and iMovie 10. I have been using the "reduce background noise" feature in iMovie 10, with movies where audio is detached, and I have a series of clips stitched together (the result of editing, or adding voiceovers). I'll add 4% reduce to the first clip, and it sounds great. I do the same to the second clip and it sounds as though the setting is at 100% — even if it's at 0%. In other words, the audio is really distorted.
I have tried relaunching iMovie and the MacBook itself, to no avail. The first clip is fine, all those that follow sound horrible, no matter how I change the setting.
Again, any and all advice or suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks!

I'm not sure if anyone is going to read or respond to my plea, but just in case, I thought I'd better update.  I went into our local Verizon store today and explained my problems.  I was nervous to do so because I didn't purchase my phone there and didn't know if they'd refuse to help based on that fact.  The local store of a competing carrier will not help you if your phone wasn't purchased in their store.
What I found out was that my method for pulling the battery was wrong.  I didn't realize the phone needed to be turned on when you did that.  I did it the correct way and now most of my problems are gone.  The one problem it is still having is not being able to update from 2.2.1

  • How do I use Premiere Elements 9 to synch and mix 2 video feeds?

I am trying to put together a wrestling television show using Premiere Elements 9. We use 2 different cameras, a stationary hard camera and a moving ring camera. In the past I have used an Avio system where I manually synched the 2 feeds and then I was able to drag and drop the ring camera feed on to the stationary hard camera.  How do I do this function using this software? Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, PrE does not have direct multi-cam functionality. PrPro does, allowing one to sync up to 4 cameras, and if you Nest Multi-camera Sequences, you can do more, though not quite so easily as with four.
With PrE, it's probably easiest to place your main camera Clip(s) on Video Track 1, and edit that as needed. Then, bring in the second camera's Clip(s) onto Video Track 2, and reduce the Fixed Effect>Opacity to ~ 40 - 50%, so that you can "see through" them. Then, adjust those, Trimming, as desired, leaving gaps between them. When done, change the Effect>Opacity back to 100%. Transitions can then be applied, if desired, to the Head & Tail of each of those Video Track 2 Clips.
So long as the footage from the two cameras is the same Frame Size, and also matches the Project's Preset Frame Size, nothing more needs to be done, as the footage on Video Track 2 will just visually replace any Frames on Video Track 1.
If you do much multi-cam work, PrPro might be a great investment, as it's Multi-Camera feature will make life so very, very easy.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - it seems that a few months ago, there was another multi-cam question here, and that Steve Grisetti had a slightly different workflow, than the one that I described. I will post a link to that thread, if I can find it.

  • How to download a DVD movie into Premiere Elements 12 using my MacBook Pro so I can edit the video?

How to download a DVD movie into Premiere Elements 12 using my MacBook Pro so I can edit the video?

    Bob Perez
Please review and consider the following which works for me in Premiere Elements 12 Window 64 bit.
From what you wrote, I suspect that you have DVD-VIDEO widescreen on DVD disc. For now I will assume that you are working in a NTSC setup.
Premiere Elements DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc is characterized as interlaced video with field order lower (bottom) field first. I am not sure how your DVD-VIDEO on DVD was produced - upper (top) field first or lower (bottom) field first. We may have to apply Field Option Reverse Field Dominance at the Timeline level, but for now let us put that aside for a later time.
Insert your DVD disc in the DVD burner tray.
Open Premiere Elements to the Expert workspace and set the project preset manually for NTSC DV Widescreen. How to details for manual project preset setting are found
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
Then, Add Media/DVD camera or Computer Drive/Video Importer.
The video files from the DVD-VIDEO will be the larger size files and will probably start with VTS_01_1.VOB.
In the Video Importer designate the save location for video file VOB(s) and select Add to Timeline and hit Get Media
to put the files on the Timeline for editing.
If you have more than one DVD disc to "rip", please set up the Video Importer Save In location so that the save in location has a folder for each disc. The fact that all DVDs have the same VTS_01_1.VOB name etc will cause problems if you saved all to the same place as individual files.
Determine how that works for you in your Mac computer environment. We will be watching for your progress.
Others may tell you that you need to convert the VOB to another format before import into Premiere Elements. That is no necessary for Premiere Elements.
    Thank you.

How do I set the thumbnail image of my videos that export to my computer?  I'm using Premiere Elements 11 on a windows 8.1 PC 64bit.
Or how does Premiere 11 determine where to set the image for the video it is exporting?

This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. We are all visitors here.
Just a bit of history....back in the days of Premiere Elements 4, you could set a "poster frame" in what was called the Project area. You did this by right clicking a blank area there and, from the drop down menu that appeared, selecting View/Preview Area, and using the poster frame feature there.
As I said, when a video imports into Premiere Elements, the thumbnail of the import has been presenting as the first frame of the video. With this Preview area "poster frame" option, you could set the video's thumbnail in the Project area so that the first frame was another frame in the video. But, this "perk" was restricted to thumbnails of the video in Project area.
If you exported to file with the first frame modified video, the export's thumbnail in Windows Explorer would present with other than the real first frame or the poster frame as the first frame.
Also, in more recent versions, I have observed that the export to file does not display the real first frame of the video in Windows Explorer. Seems random, but I have not kept track.
And, remember, at the onset I wrote
As far as I have ever seen, Premiere Elements Windows uses the first frame of the video for its thumbnail in the program.
I know of no way within Premiere Elements to control what the program opts to do in this matter. In some compatibility
issues, it opts to give no image but a generic one.
I did not say that you can expect to have the Premiere Elements' export file's thumbnail in Windows displaying with its real first frame. And, the more you get into this, depending on the versions, more details need to be added to my comment about "...first frame of video for its thumbnail in the program..."
I would have to look into all this further to get perspective on the contributing factors.

Add On...The Poster Frame feature appeared in versions 4, 7, 8, and 9 by my count.

  • In ecatt - how to check at database level using ABAP

    Hi,
How to check at database level using ABAP in Ecatt tool.
say,for example I want to check a particular sales order is invoiced or not ,at the database level and if it is invoiced I have stop proceeding to invoicing of that sales order number.
Could anybody suggest on this with an example?
    thanks.

    Hi,
you can use the command GETTAB to access single db records.
Full specified or partitial specified keys can be use at GETTAB. It will return always only one record, also if a couple could match your selection.
For more advanced scenarios you can also use eCATTs Inline ABAP. In a block between the commands ABAP. ENDABAP. you can code ABAP statements, e.g. SELECT ... INTO TABLE ...
eCATT script parameters of type 'V' defined in that script using ABAP/ENDABAP will be transfered into the ABAP block and back to script after ABAP perform.
    Best regards
    Jens

I'm using Premiere Elements 11, which automatically opens in a project window for HD. I want to reset the default for SD. How can I reset the default for opening a project?

    scottypet
For Premiere Elements 11 and 12, you cannot change its default project preset from NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080i30 or its PAL counterpart PAL AVCHD Full HD1080i25 to something else.
For each project, you can set the project preset manually if you do not want the program to take over setting the project preset based
on the properties of the first drag to the Timeline.
To set the project preset manually, open the project to the Expert workspace, go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
In the Change Settings area, change the project preset. Before you exit that area, be sure to have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project" in the new project dialog.
Then you import your source media, using the appropriate Add Media choice.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
If you want a version of Premiere Elements that uses the default project preset of NTSC DV Standard or its PAL counterpart PAL DV Standard, then you need to look to a version of Premiere Elements earlier than 11.
Please let me know if you have any further questions on this or need clarification.
