How to reduce noise from still pictures in PE 11?

Hi
I have tried to set a few still pictures into my video. They were taken with high ISO 4000, with a Full frame camaera (NIKON D600). They look sharp and fine in any photo viewer. But when creatin a video with PE 11 they become VERY noisy/grainy.
WHY, and how do I reduce this noise?
Christian

Welcome to the forum.
Video noise most often shows up, when the Images are underexposed, and then brightened in some way.
I have found Neat Video to be a very good video noise reduction tool. It's 3rd party, not too expensive, and has worked well for me.
There is another product from Neat, Neat Image, which works beautifully on Still Images. It will also work well to remove film grain, in scanned film-captured Images.
What I do not know is if Neat Video will use PrElements as a host application. I know that it works well with PrPro.
Neat Image is available in three ways - a stand-alone, a plug-in for Photoshop (do not know about Photoshop Elements), or as a combo-pack with both.
As Steve comments, doing Image manipulation in Photoshop, or Photoshop Elements is the best way to handle Still Images. While PrE can do some Still Image manipulation/correction, its tools are designed for Video. Photoshop (either version) has far more tools for Stills.
Good luck,
Hunt

How can I export a still picture from a video clip?

I'm able to export stills from iMovie without anything extra. I create a new project - call it Exports say. Now, in your event clip with the frames you want as stills, select a single frame and drag it into your project. Repeat for other stills you want to export. Then choose Share -> Export Using QuickTime.
In the pop-up, choose Movie to Image Sequence. Click Options and choose the image format you want. Playing with the number of stills lets you pick how many stills you want from each second of video. Hit OK and the stills will be generated in the directory you choose.
I've only done this with HD video. Don't know how well it works with lower res, interlaced vid.

How can I extract a still picture from footage in imovie, add text to it and print it ?

Assuming you have iMovie 11 (also known as Version 9.0.4), here is how you do it. (If you have a different version, let me know. The instructions will be different).
First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then use this photo in Photoshop, Pixelmator, Acorn, or the app of your choice to add text.
Here is a demo I made the other day for how to extract the still image using MPEG Streamclip.

  • How to reduce PSAPSR3 from DB02

    Hi All,
Please find the screenshot of DB02. I want to reduce the Table space of PSAPSR3 from the below screen. we are holding only 15 days of data in the PSA. Can you pls tell me what is this table "PSAPSR3" related to.
Please guide how to reduce the total used percentage (84%) from the screenshot.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You can reduce the table space for PSAPSR3 by deleting data requests from PSA.
As you have mentioned that you are keeping 15 days of data in PSA. But its better if you rethink on this strategy. For the PSA tables having high size with delta datasource, you can to keep the data requests from last 7 days or so to keep the size in control.
Also for full loads, you can keep only last successful request. And before loading new data request you can delete the last request.
Hope this will help you to reduce the table space for PSAPSR3.
    Regards,
    Pradip

  • In iMovie '09, how can I capture a still picture from the video?

I have a movie that i got into iMove and I did edit it down and make a nice video from it I uploaded to YouTube. I want to know if there is any easy way to get stills from the video. when I run my cursor over the movie and get it on a person that I want to make into a still photograph is there a way to get that single piece out?
If I locate the part of the film I want as a still then try and do a screen capture, when i move the cursor to do the capture the pic in the movie changes as I move the cursor. (hope i'm making sense).
So is there a way to grab a single frame?
    Susan

Two ways to get a still:
    1) In project, move cursor to the frame. Right-click/add freeze frame. The Freeze frame is placed right behind the current clip in the project.
    2) Select a frame in an Event. Right-click/Add still frame to project. The still is added to the project at the end.
(after doing either 1 or 2, continue with step 3)
    3) Right-click on the still frame in your project. Select "Reveal in Finder". Drag the JPEG file that you see and drop it on the iPhoto icon in the Dock.
Hint: You can create a new project just for the stills. This way you will not clutter up an existing project.

  • How to remove noise from voiceover

I am an audition CS 6 newbie.  I have tried several methods of noise reduction, but still have a noise under the voice in my voiceover.  How do I get rid of this?  I have tried adaptive noise reduction and noise reduction process. The sound is like sand being very lightly shaken beneath the voice.  Any advice in very simple terms would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When you say "sand being shaken" is the noise a continuous drone or is it in intermittent bursts?
If fairlycontinuous, your best bet will be the Noise Reduction (Process) in Waveform view--but do 4 or 5 light passes rather than trying to do it all at once.
Go to the waveform and zoom in a bit.  Find a section where the noise is present but there's no speech,
Open Effects/Noise Reduction/Restoration/Noise Reduction (Process).  Click on the "Advanced" button at the bottom of the screen and check that the "FFT Size" is set to 2048.  (It probably will be if you haven't adjusted it before.)
At the top of the screen, click on Capture Noise Print.  There'll likely be a nag screen telling you to do this.
Use the drag bars to set the "Noise Reductions" to about 15% and the "Reduce by" to about 10dB.
Hit "Select Entire File" then the Apply button at the bottom of the screen.
Now, go back to the waveform, select a place with just noise, no speech again (it can be the same or a different part).
On the Advanced menu, change the FFT size to 4096, leave the sliders where they are, Select Entire File and Apply again.
Keep repeating this with FFT sizes of 8192 and 16334 (or until the noise is acceptable to you).
It's more difficult if you have an intermittent noise...let us know and I can make a suggestion but it'll take a lot of work.
It's worth ending by saying that the best way to do noise reduction on voice overs is to not record noise in the first place.  It's worth checking the gear you use and your gain setting to see if you can get a better master recording.

  • How to reduce noise in a RAW photo?

Recently I came across a great article explaining the difference between a JPEG and a RAW file. I usually shoot in JPEG because that was all I was comfortable with. After reading the article I want to start shooting in RAW and be confident in it. I think the biggest thing is reducing the noise in a photo. I have tried playing with Photoshop and Lightroom to figure it out and I haven't been able to. Can someone please help me and tell me how I can reduce the noise if I start shooting in RAW? Any and everything will be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

There isn't much to it. The color slider eliminates colorized noise (defaults to 25) and the luminance slider deals with non colorized noise. The detail sliders determine how much detail you'd like to keep. Add a little sharpening if it needs to be sharper. Play around with the sliders until you get what your looking for. I usually keep the numbers low myself, as I'd rather have the fine detail vs a super clean image with no detail. Depends on the image though. The biggest thing is to realize the compromises and find a happy medium - don't drive yourself crazy by being overly critical.
You'll find the same feature in Photoshop's Camera Raw plugin. It is just like the Develop module of Lightroom.

  • How to stop iPhoto from uploading pictures to Photostream?

    Hi guys,
I'm struggling with the following issue: I want my Photostream to be filled with the pictures I took on my iPhone and my iPad, but not those I have in iPhoto.
Is there a possibility to show the Photostream in iPhoto, but not allowing iPhoto to import its own pictures?
    Thanks in advance
    Michael

If  the changed preferences does not stick, I'd remove the iPhoto preferences.
    Quit iPhoto
Delete the  preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist  from the Library folder in your Home folder:
         ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Delete the com.apple.iPhoto folder with all its contents from the containers folder in your users library  ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
Restart the system and launch iPhoto again.
Your user library may still behidden; to reveal it, select the "Home" folder icon (the little house)  in the Finder's sidebar and press the key combination ⌘J to open the "view options". Enable "Show Library Folder.
