How to reduce Notification popup display time?

I have Notifiation center set to show banners.  When I get a notification, an alert (pop up) appears in the upper right of the screen.  The alert hangs around for a while.  Seems like every time one of these displays, I need access to the area it is covering.  But I have to wait for the popup to hide.
Is there a way to reduce the time that these alerts are visible?
Also, is it possible to have notifications cleared out after x number of days?

Hi 4thSpace,
The information below explains all of the available options for Notifications.
Mac Basics: Notification Center
You have the option of reducing the number of notifications you receive to 5 or 1.
You can't control how long the notification is on your screen, but you do have the ability to dismiss it:
Tip: To dismiss an Alert or Banner without interacting with it, place the cursor over the banner and use a two finger swipe to the right.
I hope this information helps ...

  • 1) How to reduce MacBook boot up time?  2) Should I upgrade my 2008 MacBook to Lion?  3) How long will a 2008 MacBook last (after 4 years)?  Thanks!

    I have three quick questions to ask:
    1.  My MacBook (bought in late 2008,  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM,  160 GB HD, running Leopard/10.5.8) boots up quite slow.  It can take a while to boot up and shut down.
    Question:  What should I do to reduce the boot up time?
    I haven't done a clean up for a while, and am a MacBook newbie (after 4 years, still) for the tools.  I think I need to remove some applications but don't know exactly how. Also I am looking for stuff like System Defragment / Compression (tools available for Windows OS) to tune the hard disk performance, if possible.
    2.  Sort of related to this slow boot-up time - should I bother to upgrade to Snow Leopard (pay $ 29.00) and then upgrade to Lion (another $ 29 ?) for some 250 new features that I am not exactly sure if I will need it (or my 2008 MacBook can handle it well)?
    My friend has a 2011 MacPro which he let me use it for a while, so I think I am already using Lion,  but frankly I can't tell much difference from the user experience (am just a very average Mac user!).
    Question:  Should I bother the money and the time (I heard the downloading and installation time for Lion is very long) if all I care is boot-up time?
    3.  One last question - How long can my MacBook last?   Is there a way to find out the battery life?  Any indication that my MacBook might be on the edge of its life cycle anytime soon?
    I heard that typically the life for a laptop (PC or Mac) is 2 years. I am not a heavy user, and I guess that's why my MacBook is still alive after 4 years.  But should I expect that to be failing any time soon?
    Thank you!

    I'll try to make it short but with your questios, might be impossible.
    I own both late 2008 MB Uni with 2Ghz and a brand new late 2011 MBP 13 inch.
    I have lion running on both Macbooks with no slow down or issues.
    The late 2008 I upgraded to 8GB Crucial DDR3 Memory and 320GB Seagate Hard Drive. Total cost to me? $140 CDN ( i live in Canada ).
    My MB Uni's battery has 1047 cycle count and I still get 3-1/2 - 4 hours of battery life depending on what applications I'm using.
    As for typical life of a PC or MAC ( I own both ).  The PC's life is shorter than a MB.  I have a 4 year old Dell Vostro that I had to do a RAM upgrade so Windows 7 would run properly.
    My late 08 MB had 4GB of RAM when I upgraded to Lion with no issues.  i just decided to go 8GB because it was cheap.
    A 2GB MB will boot up and run faster than a 4GB PC with windows 7.
    Nothing is obsolete if you can still do your stuff on your MB.
    To make it boot up faster, see what's loading on startup and take them off if you don't need them.

  • How do you change Slide Display time

    I have a slide which has a 30 sec display time.  I want to change it to 6 secs.  So I go to slide propteries and change display time to 6.  I click OK but it make no difference.  When I look at the properties again, the time is set back to 30 secs !
    How do i change the slide display time?

    Thank you.  That has solved a number of my problems.  The time line does not appear by default on a new installation.  In fact it was quite tricky to get it visible but it is now.

  • How to reduce the query execution time

    hai all,
    We have created query on Purchasing Cube 0PUR_C01 for
                                Purchase Order (PO) analysis for single vendor materials, but it is taking long time to execute (about 45 sec...).
    In the above Query we have used the following things:
    In Columns:
    i) Exceptional aggregation for maximum & minimum PO Net Price using reference characteristic as Calendar Day.
    ii) Minimum PO Price value we have multiplied with Actual GR Quantity for the calculation of Impact of Lowest PO Net Price.
    iii) Number of vendors calculated key figure.
    In Rows:i)     Only Material
    In Filters:
    i)     Plant with variable select Option u2013 Optional.
    ii)     Calendar Year / Month with Select Option u2013 Optional.
    iii)     Material with excluded Unassigned (#).
    iv)     Vendor with excluded Unassigned (#).
    Following are we have used for Performance:
    i)     Aggregates using Propose from query (only for this query).
    ii)     Partitioning on Calendar Year / Month (For 1 year 14 partitions) i.e. (04.2007 to 03.2008).
    iii)      Collapse.
    iv)     In RSRT we have set the following properties
    Read Mode = H
    Req.Status  = 0
    Catch Mode = 4
    Persistence Mode = 3 (BLOB)
    Optimization mode = 0.
    Our inputs to this Query:
    i)     We are passing plant range 1201 to 1299.
    ii)     Calendar Year / Month 04.2007 to 03.2008.
    So please suggest me how to reduce the execution time.
    please help me.
    Thanks,
    kiran manyam

    Hi,
    First of all its a complete question with all the details. Good work.
    As you partitioned the cube based on calmonth and you are also giving calmonth in selection, it will definitely work towards improved query performance.
    As you are putting plant values in the selection, is there any aggregate available on plant characteristics? If not creating a aggregate on plant will help.

    Hi all,
    please any one let me know how to reduce excessive job run time

    What you exactly mean by excessive run time?  Job runtime is due to many factors like data to be processed , many jobs running same time , waiting for another jobs , hardware bottleneck etc etc ...
    If this is not looking for please explain your question a bit more

  • How to "Show notifications when display is off"

    Hi,
    In Mavericks Beta the notifications from Mail, Messages, Facebook etc. were displayed even when the screen was turned off. It lit up the screen for a while showed the notification for few seconds and then the screen was turned off again. I really liked that feature cause I could see whats happening on my iMac even if I wasn't using it.
    In this Apple document this feature is still described http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14360?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    Show notifications when display is off or locked
    Get alerts when your display is off or your Mac is locked.
    But the option to enable it is no longer in the Notifications settings, instead there is "Show notifications on lock screen".
    So please let me ask, is there some possibility to show notifications on turned off display? Maybe by editing some preference file or something like that?
    Thank you very much for answers.
    Best Regards
    Milan

    I too would like to know a way around this problem. In the prior version of iCal, you could enable alarms only when iCal was running. I routinely sync three computers, sometimes hours to days apart. So unless I remember to turn alarms off prior to shutting down the machines, the alarms are not properly updated upon syncing when an idle machine is turned back on.
    Hope this makes sense. Either way, it would have been better if Apple had not gotten rid of this feature in the new iCal.

  • How to reduce my query execution time?

    Hi Friends,
    One of my client asked me this question. " My query is taking long time to execute.So how do you reduce this time?" . I replied him saying some performance issues like creating aggregates( offcourse we have to balance the maintenance of it ), creating secondary indexe and cube copression and if possible Cube Partition etc.... I even explained query performance isuues like if possible use RRI, and minimise variables etc....
    Can anybody tell me any other factors we can advise?..Anyway it depends on query too.
    Thanks

  • HT201250 How do I reduce the 'Backups' Data on my Macbook HD and how to reduce the parameters of Time Machine?

    My Macbook Pro is using 320GB on "Backups" and Time Machine is using 640GB. It just seems ridiculous, considering I everything else only takes up 77GB combined. How to I get rid of a good chunk of it from Macbook HD and also how can I reduce the Time Machine parameters, maybe so it starts deleting back up data sooner?

    If you run TM you don't really need local snapshots so if you need the disk space you can disable them in Terminal by copying & p;asting this command at the prompt
    sudo tmutil disablelocal
    Press return. You will be prompted for your password, it will be invisible.
    To undo this, rerun it with "enablelocal" instead of "disablelocal".
    In TM preferences you can choose to exclude items to the backup.
    EDIT: See these helpful hints from Pondini.

  • IPad 3: How can I change the display time in a slideshow?

    iPhoto for iPad is a nice App, but I did not find a possibility to change the time a photo is displayed in a slideshow. It seems to be always about 4 seconds. Is there a hidden possibility? Thanks for hints.

    It seems to be always about 4 seconds. Is there a hidden possibility? Thanks for hints.
    Not with the iPhoto.app slideshows. You could however use the Photos.app to present your iPhoto albums as a slideshow. For the Photos.app you can change the duration for the presentation of slides in the Settings.app.
    Settings >Photo & Camera(s) > Slideshow > Play each slide for ....

  • How do I keep the "display time" from changing when I change the "appear after" time?

    Hello,
    I am having the the problem that the "Display For" time for my text captions changes from "Rest of Slide" to "Specific Time" when I drag the "Appear After" time in the time line.
    In other words, when I try to change when a text caption appears by dragging its Appear After point on the timeline from the very the start of the slide to e.g. 3 seconds after the slide starts, it automatically changes when it "disappears"... By that I mean the Display For time in "Timing" switches by itself from "Rest of Slide" to "Specific Time"...
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you!
    Ryan

    Hi there
    It's a feature!
    Aside from making Ctrl+E your new best friend, the best you can do is report to Adobe and hope it gets fixed in a future release.

  • Navigation - How to pause at end display time?

    I want to the slide to pause or display indefinitely till the
    user clicks a button. In the Slide Properties dialog, it seems like
    there should be a 'do nothing' option in the Navigation dropdown,
    but there's not. How can I achieve this effect of pausing at the
    end of a slide?

    Hi again GI2000
    Seems you misunderstood me. If you use a Click Box or a
    Button object, the slide pauses dead in its tracks
    until your user clicks. They do not have to click the object
    to pause. It pauses automagickally and waits for an action.
    Then again, maybe it's me that's misunderstanding what you
    are wanting to do?
    Cheers... Rick

  • How do I forget popups every time it's closed?

    I tried using this:
    on closeWindow
    window(2).forget()
    end
    in the Director file of the pop up and it works if only one
    pop up is opened at a time, but when multiple pop ups exist then it
    will forget the 2nd popup that is opened. Is there a way to tell
    the popup that has just been closed to forget itself?

    > on closeWindow
    > window(2).forget()
    > end
    You can use 'the activeWindow' to target the window in which
    your code
    is currently running:
    on closeWindow
    (the activeWindow).forget()
    end
    However, as Dave suggests this will eventually cause a crash
    since you
    are removing from RAM the file that is currently executing.
    I use a parent script/child object and a timeout object
    scoped to the
    stage window to forget windows "safely":
    -- parent script: window.closer.class
    -- example usage (#movie script handler):
    --on closeWindow
    -- t =
    script("window.closer.class").new(_player.activeWindow)
    --end
    property pWindow
    on new me, aWindow
    pWindow = aWindow
    pWindow.forget()
    t = window("stage").movie.timeOut().new(string(me), -1,
    #mClose, me)
    end
    on mClose me, aTimer
    aTimer.forget()
    end

  • How to reduce this query execution time !

    Just use your original cursor as an inline view, like so:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE SP_TEST_audit_history2
    (p_start IN date,
    p_end IN date,
    p_msgcode IN varchar2,
    p_partnername IN varchar2,
    p_status IN varchar2,
    p_locationname IN varchar2,
    p_custbusunit IN varchar2,
    p_sysaudithistory_cur OUT plutotypes.ref_cursor,
    p_status1 OUT NUMBER)
    AS
    BEGIN
    OPEN p_sysaudithistory_cur
    FOR
    SELECT tfm.hubmsgid,
    tfm.status || '-'|| nvl2 (tfm.exception_id, 'FAILED', 'OK'),
    tfm.datetime,
    tfm.exception_id
    FROM tfm_status tfm,
    (SELECT DISTINCT MAX (tfm.datetime) datetime, tfm.hubmsgid
    FROM tfm_status tfm, vw_msgcode_part_locn vw
    WHERE tfm.datetime >= NVL (p_start, TO_DATE ('01/01/1981', 'DD/MM/YYYY'))
    AND tfm.datetime <= NVL (p_end, TO_DATE ('31/12/9999','DD/MM/YYYY'))
    AND tfm.msgcode LIKE NVL (p_msgcode, '%')
    AND vw.msgcode = tfm.msgcode
    AND vw.partnername LIKE NVL (p_partnername, '%')
    AND tfm.status LIKE NVL (p_status, '%')
    AND vw.locationname LIKE NVL (p_locationname, '%')
    AND vw.custbusunit LIKE NVL (p_custbusunit, '%')
    AND rownum < 250
    GROUP BY tfm.hubmsgid) c_hubmsgids
    WHERE tfm.hubmsgid = c_hubmsgids.hubmsgid /* here only i am getting error*/
    AND tfm.datetime = c_hubmsgids.datetime
    AND tfm.status like NVL (p_status, '%');
    p_status1 := 0;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN p_status1 := 1;
    END SP_TEST_audit_history2;
    If i run this query it is taking 18 seconds to retrive the records becoz of that group by clause..
    Can any body suggest any changed in code ( any hints) to make it faster that is execution time will be less than 10 seconds
    Thanx in advance
    prasanth a.s.

    Try removing the word distinct and see if that helps. Distinct should not be needed since the max and group by will result in distinct values.

  • How to set slide properties 'display time' unlimited?

    Hi there,
    I'm working on a PPT based captivate project.
    I have a slide with Yes / No button.
    I want to program the slide in such a way that, if user clicks 'Yes' control will jump to X slide.
    if user clicks 'No' control will jump to Y slide.
    My question is i want the slide should be displayed till an either Yes or No is clicked.
    But by default Slide Properties is set to 5 sec. Moreover i have read in the HELP section that i can be set to max 3600 sec which i dont want.
    I want the slide to be displayed till eithere yes or no is chosen. Please help.
    Thanks
    Deewanand

    Hello,
    You had already very accurate suggestions. Want to add this: if your PPT-slides do have already animations, timings, be sure to set the pausing point of your buttons to be after all those animations have played! If they are only static slides, do not bother about my remark.
    Another addition: do you want those buttons on all your slides? If yes: you will have to copy and paste them to every slide, you cannot set a button to be displayed for the rest of the project. And to set your Jump to slides actions, it works a lot easier if you label the slides..
