How to reduce ram usage in firefox to bring its memory footprint as close to navigator's as possible .

So yes , I still use navigator and for my awesome albeit not too powerful laptop , it is a godsend , never going beyond 200 MB on the ram usage . But the tinkerer in me wants to know if its possible to fiddle around in firefox and make it as light as navigator cuz lets face it , firefox may be good but 900MB ram usage is just too much .

I am trying to close some unnecessary program
To see more available memory, you need to get in the habit of QUIT-ing unnecessary Applications. If you simply close their windows, they stay active in the background, waiting to be re-activated.
Mavericks and later use RAM Memory differently, and it is expected behavior to see all memory in use. Use the Activity Monitor > Memory display to check your memory pressure. Green is good.

How to reduce this reserved RAM?

OS Windows 7 Home Basic say 4Gb and 2.84 available/

Hardware reserved memory is memory used by your hardware such as the video card. You shouldn't worry about this memory usage.

  • How to reduce CPU usage when working in Logic Pro and Kontakt5

    Hello All,
I have a MacBook Pro 15" early 2011 2.0 GHZ. My main acitivity is making music with my macbook pro. I am using Logic Pro 9 in combination with Kontakt 5.
I want to get some suggestions in the setup so I can reduce the usage of the CPU. By the way I have upgraded my system with a SSD 256GB , 16GB RAM and have removed the optical drive and installed the the previous factory set HD in the optical bay. I have placed the samples of the Kontakt 5 in the HD so I have enough space on my SSD to run the progrmas fast and smooth !
If possible give your advise on an optimum setup such as reachanaling the sounds through BUS to AUX channels and other methods in order to reduce the CPU usage. You may even post some good links where I can find more info.
    Thanks in advance

    So Center of Pan,
If you were to run something like Omnipshere on an active SI track do you get anywhere near the "1 core CPU" spike I'm getting on my Late 2011 TOTR MBP?
I still dont really get why L9 on a new MBP peforms worse than eg your PC.
Older versions of Logic (ie: 5.5) don't see individual cores, there is one disk meter and one CPU meter. In some ways it's a more efficient system. This is running on WinXP which happens to be a very good system for audio. Consider this, XP can be installed and take up only half a gig of disk space and do 90% of what most operating systems can do today.
I do see single core spikes on my single processor quad core Mac Pro.  There's no way to get around a processor intensive plugin on a single track. A channel strip is tied to a single process (core). I stopped upgrading at 10.6.8 and Logic 9.1.3, because it works. I still get the occasional single core use even with multiple plugs and tracks but I can usually break the logjam by quickly starting and stopping Logic 2 or 3 times.
I will not upgrade Mac hardware or software unless the next version of Logic is outstanding, I'm fine where I'm at for the next year or two. I enjoy recording performers more than anything else so al I really need is a good sounding, solid system.

  • Ever increaing RAM usage of flashPlayer not shown in memory profiler of FlashBuilder

I have a flash application created with Flex in FlashBuilder which uses the Stage3D-API (Away3D-Library is used).
In this flash application 3D-objects are created and added to scene and they are also removed/disposed again, and then they are created/added again.
Performing these scene altering operations the RAM usage of the flashPlayer process (monitored in Windows7-Taskmanager) steadily increases by big amounts (lets say 20MB).
On the other hand the Memory-profiler does not show any such increases at all. Regarding to memory profiler the application still uses bascially the same amount of memory (the line stays flat).
There are some objects marked as loitering, but  they donet seem to build-up. And their total amount is (if at all) 0,3MB.
After a while of 3d-scene altering operations (adding, removeing objects) the application/flash-player crashes, most possibly to not being able to allocate more RAM (Taskmanager shows RAM almost completely used up by flashPlayer-process). The application does not exit due to 3d-resource related limits like vertex-buffers, but here are now my questions:
    Questions:
    a) Are there areas of RAM-usages a (stage-3d) application uses up, which can not be profiled by FlashBuilder?
For exmaple: Is it possible that some objects (maybe stage-3d related) that hold onto some areas of memory/RAM which do not show up in memory profiler?
    c) Is the versioning of used components (flashPlayer, FlashBuilder or used Flex-SDK) in an way relevant when memory profiling an application? It it possible that i dont properly see the used memory by my application because i might have old version of involved components?
    d) Do you have any other idea what might be the cause here for increased RAM-usage or why it does not show up in memory profiler? I mean at least i expected to see it in memory profiler.
    e) Generally i understand that the flashPlayer allocates RAM as it sees fit, and that its not the same amount of memory my application currently uses. But if my application seems not to use/demand any more memory (at least thats what the profiler tells me) i dont understand why flashPlayer allocates more and more memory - even to the point of crashing. Any ideas here?

    Long shot but...
When I had an issue with Flash Builder 4.6 PC mobile in regards to the java heap problem I discovered myself that my project had content which apparently blew out the FB threshold. In particular my mp3 files (3 units) were of too much high quality (360 kbps), I had to scale down the files to 128 kbps. This is an extreme shame.
I am currently running these threshold tests to see if my mp3s can be of better kbps. I did hack my CONFIG scripts in the sdk folders in the installation location but that did not solve my issue. LESSON LEARNED: FB apparently employs the web logic where reduced files equal better performance.

  • How to reduce the usage of memory?

I am using MacBook Pro with 8 GB ram. Without opening any window, the total usage maintain up to 6 GB or more from time to time.  I am not sure if it is normal. Anyhow, I am trying to close some unnecessary program in order to improve its speed.  Please advise.

  • Reducing RAM Usage

Is there anyway to reduce or even devote all of my computer's RAM to one ongoing proccess? Specifically a new game I've purchased.
I'm asking because my comp's got the minimum requirement of RAM and VRAM for the game. Yet even with everthing else quit, the graphic qualities turned way down and even the back ground music turned off, it still frequently freezes.

Most game manufacturers give unrealistic minimum specs for their products. Yes, they will run, but as you have found out they will not run well. The single best thing you can do is increase the amount of ram you have and if you really want better performance then you may want to consider a more up to date graphics card as well.
There is no way to actually instruct the OS to devote all of the ram to a particular function. The system is designed in such a way as to request ram as it needs it and then put frequently used instructions in ram so that they can be accessed quickly. If you are lacking ram then it uses the hard drive which is far slower than ram. Most games require at least double what the manufacturer suggests. At least that has been my experience. Even then, some games simply run slow.
As your hardware specifications are not listed it is very difficult to be of any specific help. Knowing which game you are trying to run would be helpful also. Different games allow various degrees of control over the graphics and audio of the game.

  • Acrobat craches - how to manage RAM usage?

I implemented a script for switching on and off a lot of lists of my pdf layers to the same time. The Acrobat crashes when I use it with big PDFs, around 60 layers. At first I though it would be an error, therefore I checked all the functions and added exception handling on every function. The program still crashes without throwing any exception( to be sure, I putted app.alert(...) in catch-block). Then I realized that the acrobat crashes if it involves up to 500 mb RAM, on other computer 450 mb. Can it occur at all, that it crashes cause of lack of memory? If yes, is it possible to manage it somehow? (increase more RAM for the program or delete some variables, which are not using more at runtime or there is some garbage collector)? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Do you mean, something like this: var ocgsArray = this.getOCGs(); ?
Could I change/get the properties of each layer on such a way as well?
    i.e.:
    1. ocgsArray[1].state = false;
    or get the name :
    2. var layerName1 =  ocgsArray[1].name;

  • Firefox is not releasing memory when I close tabs ands really slows my computer down. Also it doesn't close most of the time when I close it-I have to stop the process in task manager to get it to close. Please Help!!!

firefox uses 429,992/1108 memory right now with only 3 basic tabs open-no graphics

If you mean you are asked when finishing, I've not had a problem, .
In any case you should be able to open your Previous Windown through the History Menu, and then also from there all your previous windows (might be 5 total)
More detail in item #31 (#tabslost) in ...
You can make Firefox '''Firefox 5.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.18, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 5.0, or 4.0.1, look like 3.6)].

  • Reduce CPU Usage when Runnig Telnet on Win2000

Does any one knows how to reduce CPU usage when iam running my telnet developed using java classes.Every time when i start Telnet CPU usage is shooting to 100%.Can any one help to me solve my problem.

You are probably doing some kind of loop that is eating all the CPU idle time. You could reduce your use of the CPU by calling Thread.yield() when you do not need to do anything for a bit, or even better, Thread.sleep(...) to pause your program for a specified number of milliseconds.
    Hope this helps some.

  • How to reduce IO COST???

    Dear All,
Any one know how to reduce the IO COST?
    Thanks In advance.

Your question is as generic as it could possibly be, and therefore it's not easy to help you. But in a nutshell, IO can be improved by spreading your tablespaces on different different disk readers/writers (not the correct word I'm sure, but hopefully you understand what I mean). Might be good for example to store your indexes in a different tablespace (disk) than the tables, so that there is not too much contention when using the index and table concurrently for a query. You could also reduce the amount of IO by creating new indexes when FTS against large tables are run (if enough of the rows are filtered out). Sorry, that was a very generic answer to a very generic question.

  • Firefox 10.0.2 frequently will not close

While the browser closes physically, it does not close memory-wise. I have to keep going into Task Manger and terminating the process.

    Win 7 x64 Ultimate
    2GB RAM
    Core 2 Duo 1.86Ghz
Starting today, following a few other upgrades Java, Windows etc. as well as 10.0.2 from 10.0.1. I'm finding that the memory requirements has sky rocketed to 700MB of RAM (Working set memory) with only a couple of simple web pages.
I do have 20 or so add-ons and I've removed the worst offender, the others are Ad-Block, TACO etc.
And it just won't close, the programme closes but in Task Manager its using 50+ of CPU and only very slowly bringing its memory requirements down this is lasting 20+ minutes again I have to kill it.

  • How to reduce CompositionElements/RAM consumption, changing MediaElement won't release memory.

    Hello there,
First of all thanks for such a great framework, its pretty nice architected and really helpfull.
I've been using media composition elements In custom made player experience,
What I came across and can't get rid off is memory usage by the flash player whilst media elements are in series and parallel.
Whenever I try to remove media elements from composition element,
or add/change/remove mediaElement it won't affect player to release memory.
'nulling' player media reference, removing element from media container, also won't help.
Aprox. adding up to twenty media elements causes 400-500 Mb of RAM usage, the more lements the more RAM..
Could guru's tell me how can I reduce/avoid such an issue, any workaround? (Is that issue related to flash player VideoObject/NetStream scope thats out of OSMF?)
Any advance will be apreciated.Thank you.

    Hi msrustem,
It looks like there's indeed a memory build up when using multiple media elements in a serial composition.
I've currently logged a bug in Jira (link: http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FM-1227), and it will go throught a review process (hence I'm not sure when the fix will be out, but as soon as it is, I'll let you know).
Off the top of my head it looks like the netStreams used to create the serial composition are not reused, but rather new ones are added and cached with every new media element that starts playing, and that could be the cause. However developers need to take a closer look.
Feel free to check out the bug description and provide additional information if necessary.

  • How to reduce memory usage?

OK - I've read through a ton of posts that discuss the "Out of memory" problem in Encore, but what can I do to reduce memory usage?
I'm trying to produce a very simple Blu-Ray (h.264) project in Encore CS3 on Windows Vista. There are 8 or 9 timelines, a main menu, and 6 sub-menus. Each sub-menu has six static buttons. There are no transitons or motion menus. When I load the project, Task Manager says Encore is using about 1.3 GB RAM. I constantly get "out of memory" errors.
I've loaded the same project on Vista 32-bit w/ 4GB RAM and Vista 64-bit w/ 8 GB RAM. Same behavior on both.
    Two questions:
    1. Why does Encore need 1.3 GB RAM for such a simple project?
    2. How do I reduce the memory usage?
TIA for help on the PITA,
    rgames
