How to reduce screen brightness below standard level

Hi !
How to reduce screen brightness below standard level in ThinkPad T520 ?
I think it is possible somehow, but I don't know how. I reduced brightness to zero using Fn key + End key, but it's not enough, I want to make screen darker, because my eyes get tired.
Solved!

The latest Intel graphics driver (from Lenovo) is here:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/migr-77038
This should provide a decent lower bound to brightness. If the install complains about unsupported hardware, force the install using Device Manager and Have Disk. (Something like this: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/11997-have-disk-method-for-windows-7-vista/ )
If that didn't work, try f.lux (https://justgetflux.com/). It has a software dimming feature (of course, this loses contrast).

I guess the Windows drivers are unsuitable!!

  • Reduce screen brightness too soon on Highest performance setting

I think this issue is a fairly new one. I'm on Tiger with the latest security updates. But I want the screen brightness reduced, like an hour after no activity, not one minute while I'm on power adapter. Every setting is set like I want, Highest, etc for when it is on power. I can understand on battery I want it to be aggressive on saving power, but for AC ...

Hmmm, just checked on my iMac, and that is the file that holds that setting... does that stay unchecked between reboots?
That file also would seem to hold the Settings to use on Batery, but I wonder if Battery Models also have some other file that might affect it... can't tell here.
I wonder where the Performance settings all are?

  • How to configure screen-brightness of macbook to lowest value as default

    Hi,
setup: macbook 3,1 with external 24" display. Basicly the user is only using the external screen which is defined as main screen in this 10.5 installation.
    question is:
Is it possible to define the screen brightness of the macbook itself to lowest possible value ?
As the macbook screen is not used at all it would be great to disable the brightness or at least reduce it as much as possible. I can do that with the brightness-key, but that is only a session setting. not permanent.
    any ideas ?
    best regards

  • NB100 - How set the screen brightness?

    Hi all.
Just bought an NB100 - overall very very pleased with it. Well built, good screen and very compact etc.
Got a couple of questions? The screen brightness is controlled by Fn+F9/F10. I like to have it set to "halfway" or less - partly to preserve battery - but also because I find max brightness is actually TOO bright for me! But on reboot the machine seems to always start at maximum again. Is there any way round this? Does it perhaps need a firmware update (my machine seems to be running version 1.90 which I believe is the latest)?
I noticed other threads mentioning Fn + F8 as a means of selecting Bluetooth/Wlan etc? Mine seems to just control the fan setting and processor speed - The "grey" fan setting gives 1.6ghz and the fan comes on - whereas Fn+F8 toggles a "white" fan icon - where the processor throttles down to 800/900 ish and the fan slows/stops(?). [in passing I've noticed some videos become "jerky" if the lower setting is chosen]
I'm not 100% sure what Fn+ "pipe" key does (to the left of F1)? The Fn+F1 switches on wireless/wifi I know - but the "pipe" key seems to be a Wlan symbol (or is that the key to use for Bluetooth or GPS or whatever)? Sorry to sound so ignorant - but the user guide doesnt go into that much detail. I'm fairly sure the machine I bought - which was a Toshiba Refurbished/Reconditioned NB100 - model PLL10E - hasnt got any BT/GPS etc - just the basic wifi which F1 switches on and off.
Final comment - and others have said this - the key tops are very difficult to see in low light!! The "grey" colour was definitely a design mistake! But I can live with it - either a usb light? or some stickon (white) letters?
    Regards to all.

hi, i think the best way to set brightness is in options of energy properties accessible in system tray icon. I know about bt and wlan activation, it seem that bt and wlan dispositives are on the same circuit on/off, so not indipendents. Nb100 is a good inexspansive machine :)

  • Fully Reduced Screen brightness goes up by itself.

    Hi everyone,
Not too long ago I realised that when I fully reduce my screen brigtness (to leave my laptop ON before going to sleep), my macbook air automatically (by itself) increases it slightly. In other words, instead of the screen being totally black at night, it becomes bright, which of course is not what I want. It never happened to me before, or may be I have never really paid too much attention to it.
I tried to look into my Energy Saver preferences, but I could not find anything unusual there. Has anyone of you experienced anything similar or may be you have a solution to my problem?
Thank you very much in advance.

Have you tried:  Go to system preferences>displays and check off "automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes" ?

So I am making a t-shirt design and I have some transparent images (I cannot control the opacity) and since it's for a t-shirt it cannot have half transparent pixels, so is there any kind of filter or operation to make it so that there are only two levels of transparency? (100% and 0%)

Hey I am not so great at photoshop so could you please walk me through doing this to a document with multiple layers and how to apply adjustments to the alpha channel? thanx

There's a setting in the BIOS - Display Brightness (high or normal).  Try setting it to high.  If this doesn't work, you may have a problem with your display.

  • How to reduce screen size when selecting images??

I clicked on something wrong today, and my settings have been
screwed up. When I am selecting an image (for example:
Behaviors>Set Nav Bar>Open, the screen that followed (that
held all my images) took up about half the screen. And it was easy
to make this larger or smaller, in the usual grab-a-corner-and-drag
way. Obvious, and easy. But now that I've done something wrong,
this last window takes up my entire 22" screen. There is a grab bar
in the lower-right corner, but it has no effect. In other words,
it's impossible to make this screen smaller. As it is; it's
impossible to use DW effectively. I tried quitting and re-starting
DW. No luck. Tried rebooting the entire computer. Again, no luck.
Tried uninstalling the entire DW programme and re-installing it.
Oddly, even when I did this, it did not reset to its original
settings. The window still opens up and covers the entire screen,
and it's still impossible to shrink this window down. This is true
in "Set Nav Bar Image", "Swap Image," etc..
    Anyone have *any* suggestions??

sounds like you maximized the page interface. just select the
square box in windows, or the green + button in mac osx. It's going
to save your preferences, so restarting isn't going to do it. And
good grief, don't reinstall the program. See if resizing the
    interface helps.

  • How adjust screen brightness in Windows 7?

I used to use a Windows 98 laptop up to 3+ years ago, but since moving to Mac have largely forgotten how Windows works. I now have Windows 7 on Bootcamp and can't see how to adjust screen brightness. Surely there should be an adjuster on the System Tray (that's what it used to be called) bottom right next to the clock. I'm on 20" iMac with Apple keyboard (the long one with number pad at the right).

Does the keyboard have brightness controls on the F keys?
If these do not work: try holding fn and using the F keys.
If that does now work I have to ask: have you installed the bootcamp software? you need to make a CD (or usb stick) of drivers and software from OSX then boot into wiondows and run it.
