How can i delete the complete Photo Library, as i can delete from the camera roll, but there dosent seem to be an obvious way to completely delete the Photo Library or items in the library either? There is no delete option like for the user generated albums...
I have tried deleting from the Camera Storage in the Settings menu, the delete appears but when pressed nothing happens.

I'm sorry but the way you worded the question I thought you were referring to iPhoto's library on the computer. I don't use an iPhone or the iPhoto app, so I can't answer your question in that regard.
Since you already marked the topic as solved when it was not, I recommend you re-post your topic. Just use a different topic title such as, "Help with iPhoto app on iPhone 5."

The memory on my MAC is full. It holds 4GB of RAM of which 79GB are photos. I would like to back up my photos to an external drive but just do not know how. I do not wish to use time machine. How do I back up my photo library, then delete them from my MAC to free up that 79GB? Thank you.

    Hi
Just to clarify a couple of points in your post.
RAM (memory) is different from hard drive space. You have 4GB of RAM, but that has no bearing on the amount of drive space you have, of which we know that 79GB are photos.
If those photos are in iPhoto, you should be able to move the entire iPhoto Library, from the Pictures folder, to your external hard drive. You can just drag and drop. Do not have iPhoto open while you're doing this. Once it's done, you can double-click on the moved iPhoto Library file to associate it with iPhoto, so that the app remembers where the library is for next time.
One more thing. When you move a file to a different location, and then delete the original, you don't have a backup. You still only have one copy. So if that external drive dies, you will lose all your photos. Time Machine is a very good way to prevent this from happening. You should dedicate a different drive for Time Machine backups.

How to make more albums in photo library?

If you do not have iOS 5, you have to use subfolders in your one photo syncing folder. You can have one level of folders in the syncing folder and each folder is an album.
With iOS 5 you can create albums in the Photo app.

How to delete duplicate pictures from Photo Library in iPhone 3G 16 giga?

The only way to delete photos from the photo library is by the same way the photos were transferred to your iPhone - via the iTunes sync process.
Are you saying a photo or all photos transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process are duplicated in your iPhone's Photo Library without being duplicated in the folder on your computer where these photos are stored?

  • How do I get my existing photo library from iPhoto to Photoshop?

How do I get my existing photo library from iPhoto to Photoshop?

    Hello MWWWB,
Unlike iPhoto, Photoshop is only an editor. It does not store or organize images. In iPhoto preferences, you can choose Photoshop as an editor. You will then get a choice when you double click on an iPhoto thumbnail to use iPhoto or Photoshop to make edits. But Photoshop does not have a library to store images like iPhoto.
You may want to use Adobe Bridge or Lightroom to help name and organize your pictures. You can Export your iPhoto Library to a folder and manage the exported images there.
Personally, I hate the arcane manner iPhoto stores and organizes images. I use it only for photos from my iPhone.

You do not export to IPhoto - you export to the desktop and then import from there into iPhoto - then delete form the desktop
    two separate steps
[1] Export from Photos and [2] import into iPhoto

  • Have storage optimised with Photo Library but need more space - How do I delete photos just off my MacBook Pro and not from other devices and icloud

    Hiya,
I moved a 40GB file off my MacBook Pro to make room so that I could enable the iCloud Photo Library. I optimised the storage but during this process it used 10GB of space and so I cant now put back the file I took off my mac. I though that once I had optimised the storage I would gain space not loose it!. So i'm wondering how can I delete photos off my MacBook and not off all my devices and so I can get this 40 GB file back on ??
    Cheers

Hi, that's how it works. photos in Photo Stream are these ones that actually exist on your Camera Roll. Photo Stream is an iClous service that helps you to share photos. Just think about Dropbox or any other cloud services, isn't it that you delete a file on your computer, then found the file no longer exist on your other devices?
If you want to keep the photos while making them occupy less space, I suggest you try SafeEraser's Photo Compressor feature. It compress the photos and make it easy for you to keep them on your iPhone without losing much quality.

  • My iPhone 5 claims to have 1.81GB(211 photos) of storage taken by "Photo Library". How do I locate and delete these ghost images to free up my storage space?

Hello. I've had my iPhone 5 for just over a year now. I just did a factory reset on it for the first time. When I look at storage usage in my iPhone settings, or when I connect my phone to iTunes, it claims that I have 211 Photos taking up 1.81GB of my storage. I'm very confused why because I've deleted every single image I can find. I deleted Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Facebook, etc., assuming that one of these apps was storing these images somewhere. After doing a full factory reset and iCloud backup(excluding photos), I still have the 1.81GB of photos that I just cannot find. I've already tried to delete them through iTunes, unfortunately to no avail. It specifically states there is 211 photos taking up the space. Can anybody help me find these ghost images before I lose my mind??

Copying files works OK, but not moving.  It seems like recently(iOS8?), when you try to delete photos from an iPhone that has been mounted you will get a 'permission denied' error. I haven't found a way around this.
I've resorted do manually deleting using one-by-one selections on the iPhone itself.  Dropbox carousel is great for this but I don't use Dropbox yet.  They other way is to do an iTunes sync and then delete the synced folder contents but that just feels 'weird'. Maybe there's a good App out there for photo management.

  • For the love of G-d, can someone please tell me how I can access my iCloud photo library from my phone

my iCloud Drive is activated in Beta (whatever that means), photo backup enabled and all that stuff. I can't for the life of me figure out how to view photos that are already in my iCloud photo stream on my phone.

bascially, everyone wants Apple to do a proper cloud storage option for high end media, majority people thought iCloud photo library beta was this great service purchase high storage all in the cloud, sadly the only thing it does decently is sync. If you want a real cloud photo storage option, choose another service. This is a beta so hopefully they wake up. I have NO idea what the point of selling higher tier storage options ( backup???) make any sense for a iCloud photo library user, you will certainly run out of storage on your device crippling yourself with reduce quality media rather then actually making use of the higher storage.
just really odd, you just simply have to scratch your head on iCloud photo library and the tier cloud pricing lol it's like a joke.

  • How do I share one iCloud Photo Library

We are in our late 60's (years of age). We have 3,500 pics on the Mac,
I now have PHOTOS on my Mac, my iPhoto Library is 8.99GB.
I am almost ready to jump to use iCloud Photo Library. I know I will need to up it to 20GB @ .99 cents a month (a deal if all this works out)
How can she and I access my *(our)* photos in iCloud Photo Library.
    Our Stuff::
Mac Book Pro 2011 13"           OSX 10.10.3 I have two external HD's as back ups, on on Time Machine, on with SupperDupper.
My phone iPhone 5:16GB      iOS 8.03,
my wifes iPhone iPhone 5:16GB iOS 6, (yeah, I know!!)
Yes, I will got through the hurdle of upgrading and teaching her iOS 8.03 on her phone.
She has always had an Apple ID but never even used the App Store for a purchase.
So, I do all of that how does she access the pics to show her friends.
Is Family Sharing as bad as many have said: Maybe that's for another question/group.
We have 3,500 pics on the Mac, I have two external HD's as back ups, on on Time Machine, on with SupperDupper.
Thank you Apple Community in advance for any advice of a positive nature.

You mention she hasn't made a purchase on her AppleID. But does she use unique iCloud features? Does she use her own email, Calendar and contacts provided by iCloud?
If she effectively shares all the iCloud feature set with you, you could safely just use her device(s) as your own. If you look in the iCloud settings you'll notice some can be turned on and off, like mail and calendars, etc. Those services are accessible as a secondary account. The services like Find my iPhone and Photos are only accessible from the primary iCloud account.
If that particular service set works for your needs-
Set the primary iCloud account on her phone with your credentials.
Then the Photo library available via iCloud photos will be the same one you sync with on your mac.
If not - you can't do what you want. You have to set up family sharing and use the Family Album. Share your photos to the Family album and they'll be visible to her, but not her library.

  • How can I safely migrate my photo library from Photos 1.0 back to iPhoto 9.6.1?

When I updated to the 10.10.3 update, it removed iPhoto from my dock, replacing it with the new Photos icon.  I assumed wrongly that I could no longer use iPhoto & allowed Photos to migrate my photo library to itself. My photo library is huge, over 25K photos, and I've since realized I'd prefer if I'd kept the library in iPhoto, starting a new library with the Photos app, but I don't know how to put things back safely. Any suggestions?

Thank you. The original warning message about launching iPhoto had put me off, the language suggesting any iPhoto edits not being viewable in Photos a little concerning, but now I understand better.
Also, the Create New Library shortcut very helpful, so thanks again.
