How to reformat fat32 to nfts on a mac?

How to reformat fat32 to nfts on a mac?

Either format the drive (I'm also assuming this is an external drive) on a Windows machine, or get a third-party NTFS Driver.
There are a number of iffy open-source ones out there, and two commercial for-pay drivers:
Tuxera NTFS, and
Paragon NTFS
Both products seem fairly well regarded (I use Tuxera personally, but it has nothing to do with any opinion I have about the relative quality of the two drivers; I simply happened to be using a free product from Tuxera when I needed to ugrade to get some additional features).  If there are any differentiators between the two, they are probably:  Tuxera is focused entirely on NTFS, and some of their developers are major contributors to the OSXFuse project which replaced MacFUSE; and, Paragon also makes an ExtFS driver (Ext is a family of common Linux filesystems) and has a bundle offer for the two drivers bought together.
If you go the commercial driver route, you should of course research the two yourself and make your own decision - based on your own requirements, budget, and so on.

  • Anyone know how to reformat a Windows formatted ipod to Mac?

Just upgraded my PC to a shiny new MAC but can't for the life of me see how to reformat my Ipod to make it work with the new computer!
All I have suceeded in doing so far is restoring the factory settings and deleting everything that was on my ipod before but it still isn't recognised when I plug it into my Mac! Help!

"All I have suceeded in doing so far is restoring the factory settings"
Did you carry out this restore on a PC? To reformat for Mac the iPod has to be restored in iTunes For Mac. Try putting the iPod into Disk Mode, that may help computer recognise it:

  • How to reformat ext hd from pc for mac use?

My son bought a new large external hd and passed along his older 500 gig one to me to use for back up (I am getting a new iMac and want to use it for Time Machine). He was using a pc.
My question is: how do I format it to work with an iMac? I pulled up "info" and it says I have "read only" privaleges.
I think I have to use disk utility somehow, but when I tried to look it up, I kept seeing articles on partitioning and formatting. I think I just want to format it. (don't I?).
If someone could explain to me in simple terms what I am supposed to do, I would be so grateful.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jane

    1 Open Disk Utility
2 locate the drive you want to use. It should be listed something like '500 GB Seagate' or whatever make it is.
3 listed directly below the drive should be the current volume(s) in use. If it is a Windows drive, it might be named 'Untitled' or similar.
4 Select the drive, and not the volume. You should get a window with several tabs, labeled 'First Aid', 'Erase', 'Partition', 'RAID', and 'Restore'. Select 'Partition'.
5 Select the volume scheme you want. I suggest using just one volume. Click the 'Options' button, and select GUID for the partition scheme.
6 partition and format the volume, using Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

  • How to reformat a Macbook pro 2011 hard drive?

    Hello,
How do you reformat a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.7.3) 2011s Hard drive? I already backed up all the files I wanted to save. But since I have the new Macbook pro 2011 (only a few months since I got it) it didn't come with an installation disc, but instead already came with all the applications. I'm wondering how to reformat the hard drive so it wipes out everything and I can start fresh and what would happen to all the applications?

Well Lion has a Lion Recovery Partition on the drive you can access by holding command r and booting, there you can erase the Lion OS X partition completely (all files and programs) and reinstall Lion or simply reinstall Lion if there is a issue with it (no programs or files are touched in this second procedure)
Lion is downloaded from apple's servers, you need AppleID and a fast reliable internet connection with no bandwidth caps limiting you.

If you want to replace the drive, there is software called Carbon Copy Cloner than can clone both the Lion OS X Partition and the Lion Recovery Partition to a external drive intact (excpet what's in the Trash, no Filevualt, no bootcamp, use free Winclone for that)
Hold the option key and you can boot from the external drive and format and clone everything to the new internal drive. TimeMachine of 10.7.2 and later can be booted from it's Lion Recovery Parttion as well just to restore only, cloning is better process because it gives full access to everything like before on the internal drive.

Some newer Mac's have Lion Internet recovery built in where the firmware will install the Lion Recovery/OS back onto a completely blank/new hard drive.

disk utility can't repair the Macintosh HD, asking toback up all files as possible? and how to  reformat the disk?

Some problems can indeed be fixed this way. But working from Recovery_HD or Disk Warrior DVDs and working in the restricted environment those provide can be difficult. You can literally spend days working on this problem (while your regular work is unavailable) only to discover the old drive is unsalvageable.
There is no way to know up front whether you are facing a major Hardware failure or a minor software glitch, or something in between. Often you are forced to work from the drive you no longer trust. I continue to recommend you do this work from a different, fully functioning Mac OS X booted from a different drive.
If you have had the foresight to (as The hatter often recommends) clone your virgin install onto another drive for use in such situations, you will be able to recover from such problems in record time. If not, my previous recommendations stands:
Buy a new Drive. Or  two. Install Mac OS X from scratch on a new drive, and get your Mac running again. Later, you can use the full power of Mac OS X to attempt to rescue your data, if needed. Then Zero the old drive, to see if it can hold data again reliably.
If the old drive eventually provides some needed data, and is salvageable, Merry Christmas.

Wow, you didn't make a backup of your files first?
You shoudl have come here first for help before doing that.

All I can say is make sure you have the same account name on the computer like before, even if you have to create a new user under System Preferences>accounts, then log into your itunes account with that and try to reverse sync from the iPhone like you would normally.
Apple doesn't expect one to go backwards, so they are not all that friendly, you may have to ask around on MacRumors for third party software that can reverse sync from iOS devices.
    Good luck

hi im geezar   how to reformat a macbookpro .???? without using a disk.???

Boot into recovery mode by rebooting and holding the command and r keys down while you reboot. Then use Disk Utility to erase the hard drive. Depending on what you want to do, you may want to do a secure erase that writes zero's to the hard drive.

You mean "Restore"? You can do so using iTunes. Connect your phone, iTunes running, on the Summary Pane, hit the "Restore" button, this will restore the phone as a "New" device.

  • How to reformat nano to mac

i received a corporate nano with preloaded "discussions". anyway, step by step how do i reformat the nano from windows to mac?

Connect the iPod to the Mac and restore it in iTunes. Restoring will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive, reload the software with the Mac version and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7
