How to reformat Satellite A50-112?

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to reformat a Toshiba Satellite A50-112
Thanks
Gazza

Hi Gazza,
To reformat your notebook you should insert the recovery CD into your optical drive and then reboot the notebook while pressing the 'C' key. This will cause your notebook to boot from the recovery CD which will then start the re-install process.
Note that this process will completely reformat your notebook and return it to its original condition with the complete loss of any of your own data and non-original programmes. PLease make sure that you have a backup of your own data before you do this.

  • Satellite A50-112: F1 key not work for entering Bios

my toshiba Satellite SA50-112 not entering into BIOS or CMOS setup because of F1 key is not functioning what i can do for changing the boot sequence to CDROM by alternative way.
please help us to work better

There are THREE ways to make your notebook boot from CD:
    1) You can adjust the BIOS setting by entering into it with the key "ESC" (not F1 as you said before)
    2) You can boot directly on CD by holding down the key "C" during starup
    3) You can make the "Select Boot device menu" appear by holding down the "F12" key.
All above key combinations work DURING STARTUP of your notebook only. Therefor try your timing ;)
    Good luck :)

  • How to set BIOS for USB boot on Satellite A50-110?

    Hi.
I own a Toshiba Satellite A50-110 and I have a bootable USB flash drive, but I don`t know how to boot from this USB drive.
I suppose I need to access and configure BIOS. How can I do it? Where do I get information about this? What are the steps to complete this task?
    TIA

    Hello
As far as I know in BIOS cannot be configured anything. As far as I now on this old notebook you can use just USB floppy disc drive for boot up (press U key at start up) but not USB flash drive.
Enter BIOS settings with ESC key at the start up and check all listed bootable devices.

  • Satellite A50 - BSOD - how to change Wlan card

Hi all, I have the same problem,
i have tried with several HDDs and the same thing, always BSOD before login in window, just once i could stay for some time in windows.
So i decided to install a win XP pro edition, a clean installation, not a recovery system, and it worked fine, i started to install all drivers from the support cd and when i arriver to wireless driver i got agais BSOD, so i tried to reboot switching off the wireless and it works perfect.
So, try to switch off your wireless card and tell here what happens.
Now, a friend of mine gave me his old satellite A50, because he got a new one, and his screen is broken, so i could try to change the wireless card,
Could someone help me how to get to end of the black and white wires that are in the board of the ipw2200??
    Thanks for all.

I have solved my problem, i think so.
    Just problem with driver.
I upgrade the driver version from the toshiba website with the WLAN switched off.
This is because i can login in windows and work perfectly with this. I dont know if your problem is exactly the same.
After i update the driver i switched on the WLAN and i haven't seen the BSOD again, at least in the last five minutes, lol.
I hope this can be helpful for others and sorry for my awful english, bye.

It has a lot of virus and I want to clean it, coz my antivirus had run out of date..
pls help me! Im already getting worried that my netbook would just shut down any moment...tnx!

    Hi
Im wondering if you take some time to read similar threads here in the forum.
Usually you should be able to recover and to reinstall the notebook using the HDD recovery.
Check this Toshiba document how to proceeds:

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite A50-104

I NEED TO FIND A 512MB MEMORY UPGRADE FOR MY A50/104 ANYONE NO THE CORRECT ONE TO BUY, I WAS TOLD ON EBAY THAT 512 DDR SODIMM IS THIS RIGHT. ALSO HOW DO I CHECK ON MY LAPTOP FOR THESE DETAILS IF THERE ARE ANY AND ANY OTHER SPEC BATTERY ,HARDDRIVE ETC

    Hi
You have several ways to find out what memory module is compatible and supported.
You can use a diagnostic too like Everest, you will check the user manual or the Toshiba website for details or you will contact the service in your country for supported modules.
I will try to answer the question: The Satellite A50 should support PC2700 DDR-RAM like these parts:
    PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
    PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
    PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)
Now its your choice. You can also google for the offers
By the way: Visit the Toshiba Options & accessories site. There you will find compatible parts

  • Satellite A50 cmos battery replacement

hi, anyone knows where the bios battery is located in satellite A50 series? mine need to replace soon.

    Hi Chang
The CMOS battery replacement on the notebooks is not so easy like on desktops. If you want to do it alone you must disassemble the notebook and you should not do it if you have no experience with it. Before you do it alone please contact your local dealer or service and ask how much the replacement costs.
Believe me a small mistake can be responsible that the unit dont starts any more and then you can have a real problem. If you want to do it alone and on your own risk post again.

  • TouchPad error on my Satellite A50

I have a Satellite A50 (PSA50E) and recently I got a lot of problems because of a virus. I managed to solve it, but now when I start my computer a message always appears:
"TOUCH ED-FEL Det gick inte att hmta Toshibas snabbtangenter.
    Felkod- 0x00031402, 0x00000002"
I translate it: TOUCH ED-ERROR, It is not possible to find Toshiba fast keys (or Fn keys? Im not sure how it is in English). Error code- 0x00031402, 0x00000002.
I tried to download different drive routines as Touch pad utilities, Touch pad on/off utilities, Controls, Toshiba Console, but nothing works. Does someone know what I can do it?

Thank you for your reply. It seems now it´s ok after downloading the Common modules.

  • Satellite A50 1.6Ghz cpu only running at 598Mhz

I have a friends satellite A50 here, he said it was running slow!
    XP reports the cpu @ 598Mhz, Everest reports that multiplier @ 6 X 100Mhz.
Could someone please explain how I can get this laptop up to speed?
I have found other people with the same problem but cannot seem to find a solution .. :(
Any help would be much appreciated :)

    > I have found other people with the same problem but cannot seem to find a solution
Please use search option on this forum and you will find enough topics with very precise explanation why the notebook runs on 598 MHz only.
I can say just one thing: it can not be that notebook runs like this from the first day. If your friend sold you this notebook he conceals something from you. Anyway contact nearest service partner in your country and they can fix this for you.

  • Stack overflow message shown on Satellite A50

    Hi
    I have Toshiba Satellite A50.
Yesterday trying to surf in a website i got this message: stack overflow at line 4819.
Anybody knows what that means? Is it dangerous? How to solve it?
    Thanks

    Hi
I have no idea what webpages you have visited but this has nothing to do with the notebook. this is a Javascript, server error in connection with IE browser.
Possibly the webpage source code is not clean
However, this would means that this error should not appear on all wepages but on certain page. Try to use firefox.

  • How to reformat a Macbook pro 2011 hard drive?

    Hello,
How do you reformat a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.7.3) 2011s Hard drive? I already backed up all the files I wanted to save. But since I have the new Macbook pro 2011 (only a few months since I got it) it didn't come with an installation disc, but instead already came with all the applications. I'm wondering how to reformat the hard drive so it wipes out everything and I can start fresh and what would happen to all the applications?

Well Lion has a Lion Recovery Partition on the drive you can access by holding command r and booting, there you can erase the Lion OS X partition completely (all files and programs) and reinstall Lion or simply reinstall Lion if there is a issue with it (no programs or files are touched in this second procedure)
Lion is downloaded from apple's servers, you need AppleID and a fast reliable internet connection with no bandwidth caps limiting you.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
If you want to replace the drive, there is software called Carbon Copy Cloner than can clone both the Lion OS X Partition and the Lion Recovery Partition to a external drive intact (excpet what's in the Trash, no Filevualt, no bootcamp, use free Winclone for that)
Hold the option key and you can boot from the external drive and format and clone everything to the new internal drive. TimeMachine of 10.7.2 and later can be booted from it's Lion Recovery Parttion as well just to restore only, cloning is better process because it gives full access to everything like before on the internal drive.
    http://www.bombich.com/index.html
Some newer Mac's have Lion Internet recovery built in where the firmware will install the Lion Recovery/OS back onto a completely blank/new hard drive.

  • Satellite A50-543 - What is correct BIOS?

    hi
My friend has a a Satellite laptop and the internal CD drive is broken and as her Windows had a virus and has been exhibiting strange behaviour I'd like to clean install XP. The current BIOS ver 1.2 doesn't support booting from USB CD-ROM drives. In the support section I found a bios ver 1.4 which says in the description 'This Bios Update adds increased functionality to your system.', not very helpful.
The bios file is called bios-20070808112012.zip for Satellite model:A50, short model no.:PSA50E.
I know this is probably a redundant question but just to be sure can I be sure this is the correct BIOS as I'm not overly familiar with Toshiba's naming scheme.
    cheers
    damole

    Hey damole,
If you did find this BIOS on the Toshiba website for your notebook model its the correct version. I mean why should Toshiba release a wrong BIOS that doesnt work?
But I have a little bit searched using Google and I think its not possible to boot from USB also with new BIOS version. This is only possible on new notebooks and Satellite A50 is pretty old so I think in this case you have to replace the CD/DVD drive. Maybe you can get a second hand one from eBay that is cheap.
But if you install XP from a Microsoft disk a CD/DVD drive isnt necessary. Copy the whole i386 folder on the HDD and start the WINNT.exe file.

  • Windows 8 does not recognize DVD drive on Satellite P775-112 - code 19

I have a Satellite P775-112 that was previously running Windows 7.
This weekend I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro RTM.
Following the upgrade, the DVD drive is no longer recognized.
In Device Manager the drive "MAT****A BD-MLT UJ240EF" has a warning symbol, and the Device Status in Properties is "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)".
I've tried everything I've found on the web without success:
    - Reinstall driver (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/library/cc772156)
    - Look for and remove UpperFilters / LowerFilters values in the registry (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060) : in my case they weren't present
I also tried connecting a USB DVD drive to my laptop - it failed with the same Device Status in Device Manager. Which suggests the problem isn't specific to my DVD hardware.
    Any suggestions welcome!
    Thanks

    Hi guys
    Found a solution here:

disk utility can't repair the Macintosh HD, asking toback up all files as possible? and how to  reformat the disk?

Some problems can indeed be fixed this way. But working from Recovery_HD or Disk Warrior DVDs and working in the restricted environment those provide can be difficult. You can literally spend days working on this problem (while your regular work is unavailable) only to discover the old drive is unsalvageable.
There is no way to know up front whether you are facing a major Hardware failure or a minor software glitch, or something in between. Often you are forced to work from the drive you no longer trust. I continue to recommend you do this work from a different, fully functioning Mac OS X booted from a different drive.
If you have had the foresight to (as The hatter often recommends) clone your virgin install onto another drive for use in such situations, you will be able to recover from such problems in record time. If not, my previous recommendations stands:
Buy a new Drive. Or  two. Install Mac OS X from scratch on a new drive, and get your Mac running again. Later, you can use the full power of Mac OS X to attempt to rescue your data, if needed. Then Zero the old drive, to see if it can hold data again reliably.
If the old drive eventually provides some needed data, and is salvageable, Merry Christmas.
