How to reformat the new MacMini Fusion Drive . . .

BACKGROUND:  I am a long time Mac user.  Periodically I reformat the HD on my iMac and reinstall Mac OS X and application software.  This is time consuming but I am retired and have plenty of time to do this.  NOW:  I am planning on purchasing a new MacMini with the 1 TB Fusion Drive.  The drive has 128 GB of flash storage.  I will have an external HD connected to the MacMini.  The external HD will have a bootable partition where Mac OS X Mountain Lion will be installed so I will be able to reformat the 1TB Fusion Drive on the MacMini when I want to do so.
QUESTION:  How do I reformat the 1 TB Fusion Drive on the just released new MacMini with 128 GB of flash storage?  When I use the Disk Utility will it display the 128 GB flash storage as one partition, and the remainder of the 1 TB HD as the second partition?  What are the steps for reformatting the 128 GB of flash storage and the remainder of the 1 TB HD and then installing Mac OS X Mountain Lion on the 128 GB flash storage?
Please - no responses about why in the world would I want to reformat the fusion drive.  This something I simply want to periodically do.
Thank you in advance for your suggestions . . .
Jim

Here is an article to read on making a fusion drive.
http://blog.macsales.com/15617-creating-your-own-fusion-drive
There are a ton of them on the web now.  If you haven't reformatted your HD, don't.  Just follow the instructions and fuse the SSD to the HD partition, format it, then restore from your backup.
Keep this in mind, the recovery partition is normally on the HD and not the SSD.  If you wipe the entire HD during your fuse, you will lose it.

    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter
    and uncheck the box labeled Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible, if it's checked.
    If the drive has more than one interface (USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt, eSATA), try one of the other interfaces.
    Check that the data cable is securely inserted at both ends.
    Try a different cable.
    If you're connecting the drive through a hub, connect it directly to a built-in port on the Mac.
    If you're connecting it directly, try a different port.
    Disconnect all other devices on the bus, or as many as possible.
    Test the drive with another Mac. Test another drive with this Mac.
    If the drive is bus-powered, but has an AC adapter, connect the adapter.
    Start up in Recovery mode and launch Disk Utility. Is the drive recognized?
    Start up in Safe Mode and test.
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    If the drive doesn't work under any of the above conditions, and if another drive does work with the same Mac, then the drive is malfunctioning.

    Some problems can indeed be fixed this way. But working from Recovery_HD or Disk Warrior DVDs and working in the restricted environment those provide can be difficult. You can literally spend days working on this problem (while your regular work is unavailable) only to discover the old drive is unsalvageable.
    There is no way to know up front whether you are facing a major Hardware failure or a minor software glitch, or something in between. Often you are forced to work from the drive you no longer trust. I continue to recommend you do this work from a different, fully functioning Mac OS X booted from a different drive.
    If you have had the foresight to (as The hatter often recommends) clone your virgin install onto another drive for use in such situations, you will be able to recover from such problems in record time. If not, my previous recommendations stands:
    Buy a new Drive. Or  two. Install Mac OS X from scratch on a new drive, and get your Mac running again. Later, you can use the full power of Mac OS X to attempt to rescue your data, if needed. Then Zero the old drive, to see if it can hold data again reliably.
    If the old drive eventually provides some needed data, and is salvageable, Merry Christmas.

  • Are the main differences between the 768 GB Flash storage and the 3 TB Fusion Drive?

    Are the main differences between the 768 GB Flash storage and the 3 TB Fusion Drive?

    About Fusion Drive
    Fusion Drive combines 128GB of super fast flash storage with a traditional hard drive. It automatically and dynamically moves frequently used files to flash for quicker access. With Fusion Drive in your iMac, booting is up to 1.7 times faster, and copying files and importing photos are up to 3.5 times faster.* Over time, as the system learns how you work, Fusion Drive makes your Mac experience even better. All while letting you store your digital life on a traditional, roomy hard drive.
    About Flash Storage
    For maximum performance, you can configure your iMac with 768GB of flash storage instead of a traditional hard drive. Flash storage delivers up to four times the performance of a traditional drive — speed you’ll notice when you start up your iMac, launch an app, or browse your photo library.
    In addition the prue flash option is $900 more the then 3TB fusion drive.

    If you make a BartPE bootable ISO or CD,  you can add a 'DiskPart' folder in your Plugins folder.   Then put the following contents inside that 'DiskPart' folder.  The file name should be "DiskPart.inf"
    This will allow you to boot from the BartPE CD, open a command prompt, and use Diskpart like you would from within Windows normally.    We extended C drives of old systems (VMs) many times this way.   I'm reasonably sure our BartPE CD is based
    of Server 2003 Standard SP2.

  • How thin is the new keyboard?

    Exactly how thin is the new keyboard?

    aside from measurements... I would just say thin... you need to see one in person if you havent already. I was going to buy the new aluminum imac simply for the keyboard until i popped into the apple store and they sell them seperatly... i bought the wired version for my imac simpy because its even thinner than the wireless version. I love it... so instead ill turn my intel imac core duo into a newer mac for less lol... got the keyboard, have a wireless mighty mouse, installed 2gb's of ram which i purchased from another company for 75%less money than apple robs you i mean charges you for.. got an external 500GB hard drive and will install leopard when that comes on out.

    The below one is my requirement,
    ex:-   Itu2019s requested the change of Scheduling Agreement printout. Itu2019s requested for this type of   document, the insertion, into the field u201CData Emissionu201D into the print, of the document last modify date instead of the document creation date. (This change will be done only for position change into the Scheduling Agreement). No change into the PO.

    Hello all,
    when i update apps on my iphone they need the ID that i used when i downloaded these apps and i forgot this ID and a make a new ID
    How i used the new one to update these apps?
    thanks

    Your device can hold apps from multiple IDs, but to update them you have to swicth identities which is time consuming. If possible use only the one ID. If you need to reset the password for your old ID visit My Apple ID.

    I really need your help

    I agree with Mr. Hall that using mx.controls.Alert in Flex may be a better route.
    Show the Alert like this:
    // show an alert with a question and yes and no choices
    Alert.show( "Would you like to go to the Adobe Forums?", "Question",
         Alert.YES | Alert.NO, this, closeHandler, null, Alert.YES );
    Then handle the response in the closeHandler() function:
    protected function closeHandler( closeEvent:CloseEvent ):void
    if( event.detail == Alert.YES )
         navigateToURL( new URLRequest('http://forums.adobe.com'), '_self' );
    else if( event.detail == Alert.NO )
         // they chose no
    The following documentation on Alerts may be helpful:
    http://www.flexafterdark.com/docs/ActionScript-Alert
    Let me know if that helps...
