How to refresh metadata of a remote copy of the master cat ?

I have exported my mastercat to a copy on a USB disk which I take with me on trips attached to a notebook.
I want to maintain the metadata during the trip and to have all previews remotely available.
The copy contains only the cat and the previews, but no negatives.
As already this remoteCat and the previews have a size of 200 Gigabyte, it is not an option to "refresh" by simply exporting the whole mastercat to USB-disk again before each trip.
I want only to refresh the remotCat with the newest metadata content and additional previews.
But this refresh-import into the existing remoteCat fails, as obviously metadata and/or previews are only refreshed with the "import from another cat" option if the negatives exist in the destination cat. And this is never the case with this remoteCat.
The import dialog correctly identifies how many cat items have changed metadata, but these cat items are not refreshed after import.
Note: the other way round, refreshing the masterCat with changed metadata from the remoteCat works, as the mastercat always has all negatives online available.
How to do this refresh ?
In addition is there a way to copy the "MyLocations" list from MAP module to another catalogue ?
The export obviously only transfers the position data of each negative, but not the myLocations list.
This makes it uncomfortable to update the positions on the remote cat.

So you want to asynchronously refresh a part of the page. There is one general solution to accomplish this: implement AJAX.

How can I get my music to copy to the iPod Shuffle?

I have a new iPod Shuffle, it shows up under the Devices in my iTunes, but when I Sync it says there is an unkown error and cannot copy the song. It displays this message for every Playlist and every song. My iTunes is current and the software on the Shuffle is current. All the songs play just fine from iTunes on my desktop computer. If you have not done so, you may want to restart your computer.
That message (about the song file not found) means iTunes cannot locate the song file where it expects to find it. Are you sure you can still play the song in iTunes (?), because you may get a yellow exclamation point next to the song, meaning the same thing; iTunes did not find the song file where iTunes expected to find it.
The consolidate command would not help if iTunes can't locate the files.
That might mean they were moved or deleted. If you do a Get Info (from right-click) on one of those songs, the Info window should tell you the expected location of the song file, on the Summary tab next to Where. Follow that path (using Windows) to see if the song file is there.

How do you make a back-up copy of the OSX Leopard Install Disk 1?

I'd like to make a back-up copy of +Leopard Install Disk #1+ but I only have one DVD read/write machine onboard the Mac Pro.
Can I insert the Leopard DVD, copy it to my desktop, remove it from the drive, insert a blank DVD and burn the contents to the blank DVD?
I'm trying to create a simple bootable Leopard DVD that will enable me to (a) boot up, then restore my System HD from a Time Machine Archive; and/or (b) run +Disk Utility+ from a source other than the main System HD if necessary.
I know I can do these things from the original Leopard Install DVD but I'm trying to preserve it and use it as little as possible in the event I need to reinstall Leopard.

In addition to Malcolm's instructions I want to point out that you need a Dual Layer
DVD+R (or -R) for this. Those are quite flaky and some might not work or not work well when you burn them. I was recommended Verbatim DL DVD+R as being reliable. try those.
also, instead of burning to a copy of the install Disk 1 to a DVD you can clone it to a partition on your hard drive. Just make a small partition, insert the DVD, select it in Disk Utility and click on "restore" tab. select the DVD as the source and the partition as the target and hit "restore". this will give you a very fast bootable installer right on your hard drive.

You need to contact Apple Customer Service about purchasing replacement discs for the computer. You have posted in the PPC forum, so I assume you do not have an Intel Mac, but since you haven't stated what you have we simply don't know enough to assist you.

How to make metadata changes stick when having made the mistake of updating while Match was running?

I've painfully come to realize that much my tedious process to add composer to 4,000+ tracks where this was missing, was done while Match was running.
I have a Time Machine backup of the library that contains the changes, but if I restore this, Match insists on downloading the old metadata (which means deleting the composer data). Is there any way to force Match to update the cloud data based on this backup of the library file?
I really don't want to have to locate and add this data again...!

SO, I download some albums from the Music Store, and plug my iPhone into the iMac, and quite oftern I get the tracks duplicated on the iPhone. As you can imagine, this is not ideal when I try and listen to the album, as I get Track 1 followed by Track 1, then Track 2 followed by Track 2, etc, etc.
I would really like to have just a siongle instance of the songs on my phone.

To my knowledge, there is no way of doing what you want. The only workaround is to create playlists for the other albums containing the track, but that isn't practical for most people.

How much does it cost for BT to move the Master So...

I am trying to get an idea of the proice BT would charge to move an internal master socket to a new location. My neighbour is in her eighties and needs to have her master socket moved as it is located where a new fireplace is going to be installed. Its a standard master socket and she doesn't have broadband access. She will need to have it completely removed and relocated, we cannot resolve by just running an extension from it to the new location. Does anyone know how much BT will charge to do this ? Or is there a foolproof way of doing this yourself or should we leave well alone. I think what needs to happen is for a new length of cable to be run fom her outdoor box on the wall and then come in through the wall in the lounge from the outside as otherwise the cable will be going over door frames. Thanks for any advice

How do I make firefox only prompt me for the master password only when it's required, instead of just randomly prompting me?

Firefox used to only ask me for my master password when I navigated to a site where I had a stored password ... now it prompts me when it opens or every 30 minutes (security.password_lifetime doesn't fix my issue) and I do not like this behavior. I don't want to have to enter it every time I open the browser, but rather when I get to a site where it is needed. I don't know why this behavior was changed, but it is incredibly annoying and it is only driving me away from firefox.

This is sooooo irritating that it does this everytime. No way to turn it off without turning off the master password ... so either I give it up, I deal with it, or I stop using firefox ... I this at this point firefox development has taken a turn for the worst ... it's gone from being the quickest browser to being one of the slowest. I used to hate IE .. but I'm starting to prefer it to Firefox ... well, I prefer Chrome now ... Firefox has gone down the hole. 1+gig of memory for 3 webpages.

Can one please provide me with a manual or guideline how to start this challenging job. Maybe a best practise can be used ?
In the end we want to setup an environment based on a clean master.

WHy are unchanged files sync'd from my local to remote copy

I have created a website using DW CS4 (www.hollisterairshow.com) and most things are working fine. I create/ update pages on my PC and then sync the local and remote copy of the site. Even if I only changed one document DW often,but not always, gives me a long list of files to "Put", including files like pdf and jpg, which haven't changed since I first uploaded them. I know I can tell DW to ignore the suggested Put actions but I now have a lot of files on the site. Why is it suggesting I "Put" a new copy for a file that hasn't changed.
This is not a showstopper, but it's becoming very inconvenient as it can take 10+ minutes to upload the whole site - I'm a former FrontPage user (on a different website) and it did the same thing, uploading the whole site every time.

scp -p /my/local/file [email protected]:/otherpath/to/remote/file
Will use ssh to securely copy a file if ssh is enabled on the remote "othermac"
rsync -e ssh is much more powerful, but in many cases scp is the best due to simplicity.

Opening a Remote Panel of the Top Level vi for an executable

Hello Everyone
I was wondering how you would open up a remote panel for the top-level vi in an executable?
I have created a LabVIEW application and have tested opening the remote panel when it is running in the full labview development suite - this all works fine. I simply go operate>connect to remote panel and enter the server address, the port (8000) and the vi name using the path "My Project.lvproh/My Computer/main.vi" format.
However, if I then build this application into an executable I do not seem to be able to open a remote panel - it might be that I am just entering the VI name incorrectly.
with VI name = "main.vi" or with VI name = "C:\builds\main.exe\main.vi" and the exe. running I get the error:
Connecting to remote panel server...
Requested VI is not loaded into memory on the server computer
However I am not sure how else I would enter it.
The main.ini has the following configuration:

It appears that you can infact use remote panels within an executable.
The problem I had was that I had left the web server port for the remote panels the same as the LabVIEW development environment. That meant that the main LabVIEW web server was getting in the way of the web server that was associated with my built application.
With the application's web server on a different port and the VI in memory (and the file in a library/directory external to the exe if it is not the top level VI), you just need to specify the VI name such as main.vi .

How do I set up a PCI-DNET card as master with A-B DNI as slave?

I'm trying to communicate with an Allen Bradley PLC through DeviceNet. I have a NI PCI-DNet card in my computer, and an Allen-Bradley 1761-NET-DNI interface between my PLC and the DeviceNet network. Does anyone know how to set up my National Instruments card as the Master of my PLC/DNI combination? Thanks in advance for the help.

The PCI-DNET card should set itself up as the master by default. As a matter of fact it should take more work to get it be the slave than to get it to be the master. Is this not what you are experiencing? Is there some sort of Allen-Bradley software that you have installed that is not allowing the NI board to be the master?
The DNET Manual states on page 4-8 that NI-DNET assumes that it is the only master in your DeviceNet system.

You can do a filter on your library with "File Status" is "Missing". The "File Status" query is not available by default, but you can add it by clicking the upper-right button in the filter window.

I had a scenario RFC(R/3) -> XI -> Legacy System. I made some changes in RFC on R/3 environment, adding some fields, but unfortunately these fields are not appearing in XI.
I imported and activated the RFC in "Design:Integration Builder" but XI still not receiving these new fields.
