How to register a name in imessage in your itouch 4

I am having this same problem myself right now but I know for a fact that the person I am trying to iMessage through my macbook is registerred with iMessage because I was just texting her through my phone and her iMessage is on. My macbook is letting me message anyone else in my contacts excpet her.
Also, I just added her to my contacts right now, so maybe I did something wrong as I was adding her but I highly doubt it because I've done it before and its not difficult to do. I simply added her like I've done with everyone else in my contacts.
I'm not sure what this could be but if someone can help I would really appreciate it.

How to change "jabber"name from iMessage on Mac?

I am using only 2 account . One Gmail Account Id and other is Apple ID . I am not using any Jabber ID.
Still My iMessage is showing a Jabber name in left Pane downside.
My description of Apple Id is Gaurav Dubey and for Gmail ID is Google . Still Not able to change the name . Any Help would be appericated

Hi,
In the Messages app you can use your Apple Id with the iMessages account
You can remove the Apple ID from the set up but you cannot actually delete the iMessage account.
The same is true of the Bonjour account (it can be Enabled or not but not deleted)
You can also Add accounts using the Plus icon below the list.
This now list a generic "AIM" line used for Apple IDs that are also Valid AIM Screen Names as well as names registered at AIM.
Then at the bottom is the Yahoo option.
In between are the Jabber options of which Googletalk is one.
So at this point if you have added a Google ID you will list in the Account preferences:-
iMessages
Bonjour
Google
The Google one will have a description field.
This is the account ID by default.
Howerver as it is the only Jabber account the Window Menu is likely to list it as "Jabber" and this is also likely to appear at the bottom left of the Main Messages window and in the text field when chatting to Buddies.
Changing this Description (deleting it) defaults to the ID itself.
Although in some places it automatically shows as Google Talk
In iChat 3 though 5 if you had one AIM account and one Jabber Account logged in and had not changed the default Description then the Window Menu would list "AIM" Buddy List and "Jabber" Buddy List even if it was Google.
As I have had descriptions for some time it appears the app is remembering some of these for accounts where I delete the Description and then log the account in.
I am sure that is a fresh set up with less accounts my Google one would get listed as Jabber in some places.

How to change display name in iMessage?

My son has an iPod that's using iMessage to text. When he text to my phone, it has my name as the display name and not his. How can I change this so it can display his name instead of mine?
I am using my iCloud account on this iPod, not sure if it has anything to do with it.

Do you mean you want their name to display when you ipad imessages your iphone?
2 ways to do it
You can either add another contact and call it iPad Message for instance and just add your iMessage email in there.
Or
If its another persons phone they simply need to add the same email address into your contact on their phone.
I dont think its possible to not display your email address mind you if you are not already added at all in their contacts, i.e if you're imessaging an aquantaince and not a close friend via iMessage.
iMessage i designed for more personal use between friends and family unless you dont mind sharing your email address.
Why not just add another email address in iMessage to use if you're worried?

After MANY , MANY blogs and discussions and failed attempts I've figured this out. When you go to write a message the contact that was deleted still shows up next to the contact is a letter I with a blue circle all you have to do is tap it then it gives you the option to delete recent contact and lord behold that contact is permanently gone no back up syncing needed or anything !!!

I'm a owner of a 3rd gen iTouch, New iPad (3rd gen) and I got my wife for Christmas the 4th gen iTouch (5.1.1) It was a huge headache just to get a Apple ID for that. I inadvertantly managed to get my wife a iM Apple ID for icloud but got her a Apple ID for iTunes etc. (after a lot of work)
A colleague I lost contact with managed to set me up with Face time and iM on my iPad. I had to set my wife up with a email on my other computer. After a lot of work I managed to get her a Apple ID and it works fine but not with iM.
Question how do I get the Apple ID that does work within the apps store/iTunes, to work with iM. I've tried everything in the above but nothing seems to work. I get in Settings>Messeges: iMessage On, Send Read Receipt, On, Receive At: @icloud and I cant remember what the PW is for the iCloud one is.
Oh I have 2 options: Remove this Email or resend validation Email and when I try to resend I get a dialogue box that pops up that reads iMessage Activation and it reads Unable to verify email (the Apple ID used in iTunes etc) because it is already in use.
Also, I have an iOS upgrade pending but I'm affraid to activate it because we don't want to lose the YouTube that came with this license.
Any ideas please?

Hi,
Thank you for the quick response. The sim card I have in the iPad is a standard "pay n go" sim card with a "data bolt on". If the sim card is placed into any phone, the sim card works as expected to make and receive calls etc.
I get what you mean about the iPad as I was a little disappointed by the lack of calling and/or messaging. Especially when their main competitors allow the use of SMS etc.
The issue I have is that iMessage, for some reason, shows the messages as being sent from the recieving mail address. So a iMessage being sent to [email protected] shows up on a.persons iPad as being sent from themselves. Although both iPads are linked to the same iTunes account, the address are different to the address used to set up iTunes. Hence the question regarding the sim cards number.

All you need to do is create your second site in iWeb, move it to the top of lhe list of sites in the left hand pane and publish to your MobileMe account. You must make sure the second site has a different name from the first.
Then setup domain name forwarding to the second site following Apple's instructions here: iWeb: Using your own domain name. You will need to setup forwarding at your domain name provider also.
The key is that the second site (with the domain name) must the top top size in iWeb.
Note: with MobileMe scheduled to be discontinued on June 30, 2012, you might begin looking into obtaining another host. When you do you'll find that both sites will need to have a domain name.
When the time comes take a look at HostExcellence.com. I've had excellent results with it. They have a couple of packages that offer free domain names. And most important they have outstanding 24/7, ear-to-ear customer support.

As long as you have activated your imessage you can start sending and recieving imessages from any IOS 5 running iphone, ipad, ipod, or any idevice that supports it. And as "bobbyco57" has already told you, your contacts have to have activated the imessage just like you did.
