How to rehost EPM 11

I need to rehost an entire EPM 11 (11.1.1.3) Essbase and Planning system. I have a proof-of-concept, single (Windows/Oracle/WebLogic/EPM) server install. Once the database has been rehosted successfully, I've rerun the configtool. I see that the original database host name is embedded in several places (file system and database tables). However, I can see that EPM 11 still attempts to communicate with the database hostname, in spite of the configtool changes.
We've done this successfully in System 9, but EPM 11 appears to have a few more gotchas. Has anyone successfully done this? Does anyone now of an updated EPM 11 rehosting document from Oracle Support?

I suggest you post this on the Essbase forum. I'll betyou get recommendations there. This forum is really for the Sample EPM Sales Drive(Although everyone seems to ignore that fact)

How to install EPM Provider services on windows.

Hello all,
I downloaded the EPM 3 packs and the EPM installer as well. My aim is to install the SmartView for Office and work with OBIEE from MS office components through the SmartView features.
When trying to install the EPM, it shows the "shared services" and "SmartView" as the installable things on my laptop. There are neither other components called "Provider Services" nor it allows to install anything other than the two listed above.
Can anyone guide me how to install these Provider services and how to connect to OBIEE from MS-Office tools using SmartOffice client?
Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Hi,
Provider Services is part of the essbase server installation, you will need to download "Oracle Essbase Server Release 11.1.1.0.0" and install the server element of provider services.

How to deregister epm instances from shared services

Hi All,
I had Hyperion EPM 11.1.2.1 on Windows Server A and repsitories on Oracle Database B.
I freshly installed Hyperion EPM 11.1.2.1 on Windows Server C and configured it with repositories on Oracle Database D (which are exact replica of repositories on Oracle Database B).
Now what I'm stuck with is that shared services on Windows Server C is still configured with Essbase/Planning instance of Windows Server A as well. This is creating problems for me when I try to access calculation manager on Windows Server C and I see Essbase/Planning applications from Essbase instance of Windows Server A.
Is there anyway I can deregister the entire epm instance of Windows Server A from shared services on Windows Server C?
I don't want any connections between EPM on Windows C and EPM on Windows A because soon windows server A will be retired.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Removing instances in 11.1.2.1 is not so easy, it is not until 11.1.2.3 that there is an option to remove an instance, in 11.1.2.1 you really have to uninstall products to remove them from the registry, then also try applying the registry cleaner patch to see if it helps, if it doesn't then look at the epmsys_registry utility to delete entries from the registry.

HOW TO UNINSTALL EPM SUITE

Hi All,
when iam trying to uninstall EPM it is showing that it could not stop the services and If i try to stop the services it displays that it could not stop that service.
I f i cancel to stop the services it starts initializing at Uninstall stage but it is not able to uninstall.
If anybody solve this issue it would be appreciate.

Are you using the same user who performed the EPM installation? If not please use the same user.. otherwise Please try below steps..
1. Change all Hyperion Services Startup Type to Manual.
2. Restart the Machine.
3. execute EPM Uninstallation
If EPM uninstallation utility unable to uninstall EPM then you follow below steps
Delete the EPM directory.
Clear the EPM Registry using Regedit... Be careful before modifying the registry please take the full registry backup.

Install EPM 11.1.1.3 on solaris express 11

Hi all,
I tried to install Essbase v11 on solaris express 11 (in virtualbox) and it stopped during first step...
Package :
I copied *.zip with root user
I unzip all files with root user
I changed owner to oracle user (chown -R oracle *...)
System :
I created /home/oracle/.hyperion.solaris with "HYPERION_HOME" folder
I check javac -version : javac 1.6.0_21
$PATH : /usr/gnu/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin
I executed in current forlder : ./installTool.sh -console
Result :
oracle@solaris:/temp_EPM$ ./installTool.sh -console
./installTool.sh[33]: ./jre/solaris/1.6.0/bin/java: ./jre/solaris/1.6.0/bin/java: cannot execute [Invalid argument]
Could some explain me how to install EPM v11 on solaris platform ?

EPM add-in installation log

Dear experts,
     I am being tasked to convert the EPM add-in installer which is in .exe format to .msi, which is claimed as MS SCCM requirement. I am also required to make it as single-file, offline & silent installer. For that reason, I wrote simple .bat script for silent mode. Convert it to .exe and subsequently convert it to .msi. I am aware of any available tool to convert .bat to .msi directly.
     Now, .bat and .exe works perfectly. After conversion to .msi, I have see extraction in %temp% taking place, but there's is no EPM add-in. Is there installation log that I can refer to if installation fails for some reason ?

EPM - Keep named range

Hi all,
This is my first posts here (and probably the first of a big serie; I'm totally new to SAP EPM).
I'm coding my first EPM report and this report is a mix of BPC data and Excel formulas.
In a given sheet, I've an EPM report to retrieve year figures; months by month.   I've one column by month.
To easily work with this report with "SUMIF" Excel function, I've named each column (_rngJanuary, _rngFebruary, _rngMarch and so on). Everything is working fine except when I use the EPM context and select an another year : my names are still there but no more reflecting the correct range but only the two last cells of the columns (???).   The original _rngJanuary range was f.i. C2:C201 and, after selecting an another year, the range for _rngJanuary become C200:C201 (second screen capture)
My question : how to tell EPM to keep my names and their exact location ?

Hi Christophe,
You have to use the offset formula to create a dynamic range.
In the name manager define the range name using a formula like this:
rngJan =OFFSET(C1,1,0,COUNTA(A:A),1)
rngFeb =OFFSET(D1,1,0,COUNTA(A:A),1)

Please refer to EPM connector guide and 'Extended Analytics' guide to get a knowledge on the installation steps.
We could read and write the data from and to BPC cubes. Extended Analytics is available with SAP BPC licenses itself as per the integration documents.
Extended Analytics will be added as an 'add-on' to the excel menu like 'Planning and Consolidation'.
Above mentioned guides would have further details how to install EPM add-on.

The following are the sequences of steps carried out during the Installation and Configuration of EPM:
1)     Installed the Server along with its respective SP2 – Shutdown the machine
2)     Assigned IP and DNS addresses
3)     Installed Window components by ticking Application Server Console, Enable COM+ access, IIS and DNS
4)     Run “dcpromo” to create a Domain Controller with default values and assigned a domain name – Shutdown the machine
5)     Installed Weblogic Server 9.2 and configure it using Configuration Wizard – Selected “test environment” and ticked default “listening port” – Shutdown the machine
6)     Basic installation of Oracle Database 10gR2 using Step-by-Step guide provided by Oracle and carried out Password Management steps. After installation, I then created a user “oracle” and assigned it to ora_dba User Group with the required Local Security Policies – “log on as a batch job” and “Act as part of operating system”
7)     Logged into database and acknowledge the licensing window – Shutdown the machine
8)     Restarted the machine and checked all relevant and newly installed Database and WebLogic services are running.
9)     Started Installing EPM components by double clicking “InstallTool.cmd” and selected all relevant components at ONCE as per Installation Guide – Result: - All selected EPM components were successfully installed without errors or exceptions
10)     At the end of installation window, I carried out the configuration in the following scearios:
Scenario 1: Configuration all at Default settings
Scenario 2: Configuration all, except “Application Server” I selected the WebLogic9.2
Scenario 3: Configuration all, except “Application Server” and “Workspace Web Server” were being Welogic9.2 and IIS HTTP
RESULT: After all numerous installations, all came down to ONE ERROR from “Diagnostic Report” stating the following:
Financial Management:
FAILED SVR: HFM Service Validation Check if HFM service in working state.
Error: Error message: <03/11/2010 05:32:26 PM> CreateApplicationCAS... Failed at line: 2
Recommended Action: Make sure HAT utility is working. 1 s
I then simply ignored this error and tried to deploy an Application, all worked fine until you get to the point at “Job Console” where you need to press “Refresh” button. Progress remained at 12% until it got timedout after 300 seconds and force attempt of refreshing resulting in “aborted” job with the following error:

This is, I believe preventing me from deploying Consolidation Apps, including Sample Application provided with EPM Downloads. I have tried installing and configuring by components. All failed with the same outcome.
I have been working on this effortlessly in different combinations to get at least one Financial Management Application get deployed so I could enhance my learning adventure. As it stands, I am not sure where to get help and completely lost in the World of Oracle. I am also come to wonder whether “Free Downloads of EPM” are indeed, is “complete and is in working-state” or do I need a licence to use for personal learning experience? Are there different downloads for different needs or/users For example, eDelivery downloads are different from OTN Agreement downloads?

I am having exactly the same problem using Windows 2003 Standard editions SP2. Is there anyone who knows a possible solution for this? The effect on HFM is that is not possible to create an application, since I always get an error that says "Server execution failed"

how can I enter data in an input schedule on a member in the EPM Add-On that is not a base member?
E.g. I want to implement a top-down-planning scenario and I have the following hierarchy:
Europe
     Germany
     France
     UK
     Spain
     Italy
How can I enter a value on Europe in an input schedule in order to allocate this value afterwards?

It should be something like below -
EuropeInput
Europe
     Germany
     France
     UK
     Spain
     Italy
EuropeInput shall be kept out of hierarchy and should be a base level member. Users will enter the numbers in this member. In your script logic, you will make use of this member to allocate the data in Bas(Europe) i.e. Germany, France, etc.
Effectively, after allocation the same data will be rolled up to Europe.
Many top-down planning would use such work-around as BPC doesn't allow writing to parent node.

How do you hide one dimension from EPM context pane without locking it

Hi Experts,
Simple question: How can I programmatically (using vba) hide a particular dimension in the EPM context pane, without locking it?
Following API's could be used, but they all have have a mandatory parameter for the dimension member... which locks the dimension... but I need it to stay unlocked!
SetContextMember
SetContextOptions
SetContextOptionsForSeveralDimensions
And no, I do not want to use the User option to hide the full context pane.

You can use Hide option to just hide required dimensions with out locking.

EPM 11.1.2.3 Issue with Rehosting Shared Services Database

Hi All,
We have installed EPM 11.1.2.3 on a distributed environment using QA database. Now we have restored the database to a Production Database.
As per the process, we deleted "reg.properties" from EPM_Oracle_Instance/config/foundation/11.1.2.0 and tried launching the EPM configurator from both
1) EPM_ORACLE_INSTANCE\bin
2) EPM_ORACLE_HOME\common\config\11.1.2.0.
But, the "configure database" for Hyperion Foundation is grayed out in both the cases and we are not able to release it for the users.
I Request you to please help us.

Thanks for the suggestion. I would have tried forceRegistry as the last option.
But, I figured out that now reg.properties is saved at 2 locations in EPM 11.1.2.3.
1) EPM_Oracle_Instance/config/foundation/11.1.2.0
2) EPM_ORACLE_HOME/User_Projects/config/foundation/11.1.2.0
And, to rehost shared services database, reg.properties needs to be deleted from both the locations.
I hope Oracle corrects their documentation. In their EPM 11.1.2.3 deployment options guide, reg.properties isn't mentioned at all.
