How to reindex the WSUS database 3.0sp2

Good Day,
It has come to my attention that MS released a new update KB2938066 which increase security.  The recommendation is to run Server Cleanup Wizard (which I did) and then reindex the WSUS database which I have a question on.
I am running Windows Server 2008R2 with a standard download of WSUS 3.0SP2 installed.  I used the default database which is the internal database for windows.  The database files look like
SUSDB.mdf and SUSDB_log.ldf  and in services you see Windows Internal database (MICROSOFT##SSEE)
With that being said, I need to run the SQLCMD utility which is my problem.
When I go to install the software SQLSERVER2005_SQLCMD_X64   I get the following error and I am not sure what or where I have to go to fix it
Setup is Missing a Prerequisites
SQL Native Client
when I open the link up it really doesn't tell me what I need to do.  Am I running the right software to install SQLCMD or do I need to install some SQL Client first and if so where do I find the client?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated
Thank You
Adam Raff

Hi Henrik
Sorry but I have very little knowledge of SQL so please have a little patience with my questions.
I went over the list of files and I see one of the files that I posted is SQLSERVER2005_SQLCMD_X64   which is a msi.  I thought that This was the Native client or part of it.  If not what other file do I need to download to get SQLCMD
to install.
So now my questions are as follows
1: What version do I use 2005 or 2008?
2: What other files do I need to install besides SQLSERVERxxxx_SQLCMD_64 to get the software to work?  Where are the ODBC drives included in?  What file or files?
Thanks Again

  • SBS 2008 - How to rebuild the reporting database

    I'd like to start using the inbuilt reporting facilities in SBS2008.  But when I start up the console and click on "Reports", although I am taken to the SBS2008 console's reports screen, a couple of seconds later, the following error message
    is displayed:
    "There was an error while loading data for this page".
    When I click "Close" to close the error message, I'm left looking at the console's reports screen but with nothing shown.  The top pane simply says:
    "There are no reports to display".
    So, I then click on "Add a new report" in the right-hand pane.  Nothing happens for a couple of minutes - not even an hour glass.  Eventaully, a window opens up, headed "New Report Properties".  So, I had a go at creating
    a new report, e.g.:
    - Report Name = Test123
    - Content = Summary
    - E-Mail Options = I entered my email address
    - Schedule = I set it to daily at 9pm
    When I clicked "Ok", after a couple more minutes of thinking, it came back with:
    "The report properties cannot be saved. Reopen the Report Properties dialog, and then try again."
    I don't know how to tackle this issue.  I administer the network here but don't know SQL Server - and we don't have any SQL Server applications of our own - just the inbult ones like WSUS.
    If there is a problem with the actual reporting database, I'd be happy to rebuild it, or even reinstall SQL.   But I don't know how.   My main concern is that WSUS is running beautifully and I don't want to go anywhere near anything that might
    break it.  I would rather have no reports than lose WSUS.
    Could someone point me to some step-by-step instructions aimed at someone who knows Windows Server (to an extent) and SBS2008 - but has no knowledge of SQL Server?

    I worked through the article but hit problems.  Any thoughts would be gratefully received.
    Here's what happened:
    1. I checked that SQL Server 2005 is installed and that Windows SBS Manager is installed and started
    2. I looked for "SQLServer (SBSMONITORING)" in the list of services but it is completely missing
    I then followed the section headed "If necessary, create a new SBSMonitoring database".  This takes one to another article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2011/08/22/how-to-recreate-the-sbsmonitoring-database.aspx.
    I followed the instructions, which included downloading Create-SBSMonitoringDb.ps1 and running it in an administrative Power Shell.  When I ran it, I got a load of errors.

  • How to share the same Database Connection when using several Task Flows ?

    Hi All,
    I’m using JDev 11.1.1.3.0.
    I’m developing ADF Fusion Applications (ABC BC, ADF Faces…)
    These applications are deployed on a Weblogic server.
    Each application has only one Application Module.
    All Application Modules have the same connection type defined: JDBC DataSource : jdbc/GCCDS
    It is working fine.
    I’ve also developed Task Flow Applications for small thinks that are reused in multiple main applications.
    Each Task Flow Application has also one Application Module with the same connections type as main applications.
    All these task flows are deployed to JAR file (ADF Library JAR File) and are reused on my main applications. (drag and drop from the Resource Palette to ADF Regions….).
    There are some parameters passed to Task Flows, so that they can filter data depending on which main applications they are called from.
    Everything is working perfectly.
    All my main applications are using more and more task flows. Which is nice for the reusability etc…?
    Only ONE PROBLEM: DATABASE CONNECTIONS.
    Every Task Flows service made a database connection. So one user may have 10 database connections for the same adf page. And when there are 100 users that are working at the same time, it becomes a problem.
    How to share the same database connections for the main applications and all task flows which are used in the main application?
    Best Regards
    Nicolas

    Hi John,
    When I open a ADF Library JAR file of one of my task flow. (gcc_tf_recentSites.jar)
    I can see TF_RecentSitesService.xml and TF_RecentSitesServiceImpl.class in gcc_tf_recentSites.jar\mu\gcc\tf\recentSites\model\service folder
    + bc4j.xcfg in gcc_tf_recentSites.jar\mu\gcc\tf\recentSites\model\service\common folder.
    bc4j.xcfg details are
    +<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>+

    So, it seems that the Application Module is packaged with the task flow....
    Is it normal ?

  • How to execute the logical database.

    how to execute the logical database.

    There are two ways of using a logical database - either by linking it with the executable program(specify the LDB name in the program attributes) or by using the function module LDB_PROCESS.
    1.Data read by the logical database is passed back to the program using the interface work areas.Use GET statements in the report.
    GET events are implemented internally as FORM routines.
    2.If you call the logical database using the above function module, the selection screen of LDB is not displayed.It uses special subroutines called callback routines, which are called by the function module and filled with the required data.
    Please refer the following link for more details.

  • [HTML DB] How to use the existing database table?

    [HTML DB] How to use the existing database table?
    I installed Oracle 10g database in Computer A(Windows 2000), and I already create all the tables with data and the data size is about 300MB.
    In Computer B(Windows 2000), I installed HTML DB 1.6.
    How can I use /get the existing database table (in computer A) for HTML DB?
    Could anyone help me on this? I am newbie and I need some detail instructions. or Where can I find the examples.....
    Thanks

    Well I guess if you wish to retain that architecture, i.e. HTMLDB on one machine and your data on another, you will have to establish database links to access the data. Oracle documentation will describe how to achieve that.

    Hello;
    So in the example below replace "ernie" with the alias you want the client to use.
    I can show you how I do it :
    First an entry need to be added to the client tnsnames.ora that uses a SERVICE_NAME instead of a SID.
    ernie =
    (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
           (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Primary.host)(PORT = 1521))
           (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Standby.host)(PORT = 1521))
           (CONNECT_DATA =
           (SERVICE_NAME = ernie)
    )Next the service 'ernie' needs to be created manually on the primary database.
    BEGIN
       DBMS_SERVICE.CREATE_SERVICE('ernie','ernie');
    END;
    /After creating the service needs to be manually started.
    BEGIN
       DBMS_SERVICE.START_SERVICE('ernie');
    END;
    /Several of the default parameters can now be set for 'ernie'.
    BEGIN
       DBMS_SERVICE.MODIFY_SERVICE
       ('ernie',
       FAILOVER_METHOD => 'BASIC',
       FAILOVER_TYPE => 'SELECT',
       FAILOVER_RETRIES => 200,
       FAILOVER_DELAY => 1);
    END;
    /Finally a database STARTUP trigger should be created to ensures that this service is only offered if the database is primary.
    CREATE TRIGGER CHECK_ERNIE_START AFTER STARTUP ON DATABASE
    DECLARE
    V_ROLE VARCHAR(30);
    BEGIN
    SELECT DATABASE_ROLE INTO V_ROLE FROM V$DATABASE;
    IF V_ROLE = 'PRIMARY' THEN
    DBMS_SERVICE.START_SERVICE('ernie');
    ELSE
    DBMS_SERVICE.STOP_SERVICE('ernie');
    END IF;
    END;
    /lsnrctl status - should show the new service.
    When I do this the Database will still register with the listener. I don't give that to the clients. That one will still be available but nobody knows about it. Meanwhile "ernie" moves with the database role.
    So in my example the default just hangs out in the background.

    Hi Smita,
    In case your portal has MS SQL server as its databse, then I am giving the step by step directions to achieve 90% of what you wish to do. Rest 10% you can try on your own.
    Go through my article given below:
    [How to Create a Web Service using Enterprise JavaBeans|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/uuid/b00917dc-ead4-2910-3ebb-b0a63e49ef10]
    First go through pages 1-12 which will help you to create user/table in MS SQL database as well as create a data source in Visual Admin. Page 19 will give you the code which you can use in your Portal component to access the tables you have created in your SQL database.
    I hope your problem gets solved.
    Bye

  • How to config the oracle database connection pool in IAS

    Hi,
    Does anyone who hows to config the oracle database connection pool in IAS?
    Thanks so much!!!
    [email protected]
    Jacky

    Jacky,
    You need do the following for oracle type4 driver:
    1) register the driver:
    $IAS_HOME/bin/jdbcsetup
    Driver Identifier: Oracle_Type4_816 (whatever name you like)
    Driver Classname: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
    Driver Classpath: .../classes12.zip (install this this zip file somewhere
    and add this zip into the Classpath later).
    2) DataSource Setup:
    start iAS Administration Tool (iASAT)
    Choose Database, unfold iAS1 (your app server instance),
    choose External JDBC Datasource -> add: DataSource Registration
    JNDI Name: yourPoolName
    Driver Type: Oracle_Type4_816 (select what you just register)
    DataSource Url: jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostName:portName:dbName
    Username: your_user_name
    Password: your_passwd
    (Datasource Pool: using defaults for now): you can also customrize the
    parameters for the pool.
    3. Add classes12.zip into CLASSPATH.
    In your application, you can use JNDI lookup to get the DataSource from
    which you get the connection from the pool.
    Hope this helps.
    Good luck.

  • Interesting 'problem' after moving the WSUS database

    Firstly I have checked the suggested topics but none of them exactly describe the problem I have encountered.
    (this link just gives a 'post not found page:  http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2009/09/23/how-to-move-sdfssdfdf-content-and-database-files-to-a-different-partition.aspx)
    Okay, I have a SBS2011 server running on an HP Proliant server.  The server has been dunning flawlessly for the last 2+ years. At deployment the WSUS content was initially located on the D drive. Free space on the C drive has dropped to 16GB and
    as a precaution I decided to move the WSUS DB to the D drive too.  I stopped the necessary  ISS Admin, Update and WWW services and proceeded, using  the SQL server management studio, to detach the DB, I moved (copy & paste) the DB to the
    new disk and attached it the the SQL SMS.  Nothing seemed to go wrong there, however, when opening the SBS console I am missing half of my information.  The face that the necessary icons are there leads me to believe that the service is functioning
    but just missing the computer info. If I click on a computer icon I can see the correct computer name.
    Is there any way to fix this without deleting and reinstalling the entire WSUS service?
    Thank you in advance for your time!

  • Speed up Aperture by reindexing the library database

    I put together an Applescript to reindex the Aperture library database. This results in a speed-up, but by how much is probably very variable. Unlike the Mail.app script that is going around that does the same thing, there is probably less fragmentation in an Aperture database due to less deletion.
    tell application "Aperture" to quit
    set new_file to choose file with prompt "Select Aperture Libary to compact its database" default location (path to pictures folder) of type {"BNDL"}
    set libname to (POSIX path of new_file) & "Aperture.aplib/"
    set dbname to libname & "Library.apdb"
    set sizeBefore to do shell script "ls -lah " & (quoted form of libname) & " | grep -E 'Library.apdb$' | awk {'print $5'}"
    do shell script "/usr/bin/sqlite3 " & (quoted form of dbname) & " vacuum"
    set sizeAfter to do shell script "ls -lah " & (quoted form of libname) & " | grep -E 'Library.apdb$' | awk {'print $5'}"
    display dialog ("Database before: " & sizeBefore & return & "Database after: " & sizeAfter & return & return & "Now try it out!")
    You can download a ready script from my web site. Pasting the above may not work because the quotes can get modified.

    Hi,
    I see that you are using chrome, have you tried to use IE?
    For inprove the silverlight application performance, here are some ideas though:
    Faster startup: Please make sure you use a custom splash screen to increase percieved performance. Use MEF to split your assemblies up and only load what you need at start. Don't reference assemblies you don't need, don't include images in your project but
    put them on the webserver (but if you do, make sure build action is set to content).
    Application runs choppy: Use the visual studio profiler to identify poor/slow code:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mgoldin/archive/2010/04/26/vs2010-silverlight-4-profiling.aspx
    Deep Dive into rendering performance:
    http://videos.visitmix.com/MIX09/T17F and
    http://silverlite.seemar.org/?p=56
    Slow loading performance: Don't download more data than needed. Reduce the XAP filesize, and reduce the amount of data your app requests from services.
    Heavy data processing: Make sure you use background threads to take advantage of multiple CPU cores.
    Also please try to check this article:

  • How to use the backup database to create report or update testing

    Hi,
    I have a fully backup of production database in the last month, and I have using Oracle 8.1.7. I want to known how can I use
    this backup to generate a new instance so that I can reproduct some report from the last month data or doing some update testing
    from the backup database with the both production instance and last month instance is opened at the same time. I have tried to
    create a new instance by using the oradim and startup the new sid with mount option and then use the alter database function
    to change the datafile name to the new directory. After this i also create the local service name and change to listerner. I can
    startup the new instance but when i start the production database. I got the error that I can open the database with exclusive.
    I do this in Oracle 7.3.4 and it works. But how can i setting it in Oracle 8.1.7. Anyone can help me and many thanks.

    Hi,
    Create the Second instance thro' Database Configuration Assistant, and Replace with Back up files.Now you can run two instances at parallel.

    I want to automatically start the oracle database at the time linux server and shutdown the database on shutdown linux server.

    Hi,
    I can share my scripts:
    1) /home/oracle/start_oracle.sh
    #Script should be ran as Oracle user
    cd /tmp
    export ORACLE_SID=orcl
    export ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/ora9i
    lsnrctl start
    sqlplus -S /nolog <<ENDSQL
    connect / as sysdba
    startup
    exit
    ENDSQL
    emctl start dbconsole
    isqlplusctl start
    NOTE: emctl and isqlplus are optional
    2) /home/oracle/stop_oracle.sh
    #Script should be ran as Oracle user
    cd /tmp
    export ORACLE_SID=orcl
    export ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/ora9i
    isqlplusctl stop
    emctl stop dbconsole
    sqlplus -S /nolog <<ENDSQL
    connect / as sysdba
    shutdown immediate
    exit
    ENDSQL
    lsnrctl stop
    NOTE: emctl and isqlplus are optional
    Then what you need:
    1) K91oracle_stop (put it in the desired run level)
    #!/bin/bash
    # description: Stop Oracle before reboots
    su - oracle -c "/home/oracle/stop_oracle.sh" >> /home/oracle/stoporacle.log
    2) S91oracle_start (put it in the desired run level)
    #!/bin/bash
    # description: Start Oracle after reboots
    su - oracle -c "/home/oracle/start_oracle.sh" >> /home/oracle/startoracle.log
    Bye.

  • How to sync the standby database with the primary?

    Hi..We have dataguard setup for our production databases(10.2.0.3).
    I need one clarification regarding the standby database sync with primary.We identified one of our databases is not in sync with the primary and for longtime the archives are not getting applied at the secondary.
    We decided to take the incremental (from SCN)backup from primary and use that at the standby to resolve the gap as described in the book "Oracle dataguard concepts and administration".
    But, before doing that,we observed couple of structural changes were not applied at the standby(ex:some tablespaces were not created in secondary where as they were there in primary).
    How to apply these changes at the secondary as the standby is in mount state.(Can I open this database and create those tablespaces ?? or do you suggest any other way.
    Thanks for your reply.

    This points to a setup problem. Something missing, a parameter set wrong etc.
    While your question is asking something different - How to correct, I would consider how to prevent. Unless you have a gap or logs not applied you have a deeper issue.
    If you have a gap or logs not applied then correct it and check to see if the missing object are present.
    The key parameters for Oracle 10 are :
    FAL_SERVER=STANDBY
    FAL_CLIENT=PRIMARY
    STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT=AUTO
    DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT='STANDBY','PRIMARY'
    LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT='STANDBY','PRIMARY'
    log_archive_dest_1='LOCATION=/u01/app/oracle/oradata/PRIMARY/archive VALID_FOR=(ALL_LOGFILES,ALL_ROLES) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=PRIMARY'
    log_archive_dest_2='SERVICE=STANDBY LGWR ASYNC VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=STANDBY'
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_1=ENABLE
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_2=ENABLE
    LOG_ARCHIVE_MAX_PROCESSES=30
    Check them on both sides for issues.
    If your standby is really trashed consider using RMAN to duplicate it. You might end up saving time. I have Oracle 11 short notes on this but it will work on Oracle 10 too.

    Otherwise use statements like this to resolve you gap.
    ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/STANDBY/archive/PRIMARY_1_20_716110538.arc';
    ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/STANDBY/archive/PRIMARY_1_21_716110538.arc';See Section 5.8 Managing Archive Gaps of oracle document B14239-05
