How to reinstall CS3

I cannot re-install CS3 after having lost it re-loading Windows.  The error message tells me to uninstall CS3 first, but since it is not now installed, I can't do that.  I have tried downloading and installing the cleanup tool from Adobe, but that doesn't want to install either, and my security keeps telling me that its publisher is unknown and that it could be harmful.  I have a new system with both XP and Win 7 OSs on a partitioned hard drive.  I want to re-install on XP, as Win 7 is giving me all sorts of problems.  (Adobe support is not available for this problem on CS3.)  Any suggestions?

It's not an activation issue if you can't get the installer to run, that would only come up AFTER a successful installation and an attempt to re-activate. Activation issues are easily handled by calling the activation center at the number in the dialog.
Adobe engineer Matthew Laun sent me the following information a month or so ago when I enquired about the future of the clean scripts since Microsoft is no longer posting the msicuu2.exe tool for download, and that was used during the cleanup process:
Most installation issues can be fixed with this simple algorithm:
WINDOWS:
1) Use Add/Remove programs to remove All installed Adobe applications
2) Ensure the following folders are removed from the system:
     \Program Files\Adobe*
    \Program Files\Common Files\Adobe
     \Program Files\Common Files\Macrovision Shared\FLEXnet Publisher
     \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe
     \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\FLEXnet
     \Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Adobe
     \Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe
3) Back up the registry, and delete the following objects:
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macrovision\FLEXnet Publisher
     HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe
4) Re-install.
I believe the CS5 clean tool (Adobe - Adobe CS5 Clean Script) is also capable of removing CS3.
When it's time to reinstall CS3 you really need to be properly prepared. The CS3 installers were just plain awful. Here is a list of tips I wrote for my sudents when CS3 was released. The clean script stuff at the very end is probably no longer valid, nor is the possibility of gettng a replacement disk. I have not included instructions for doing a so-called desktop installation.
Tips for Installing Adobe Creative Suite 3
Without doubt, this release of the Creative suite has sparked more trouble and complaints during installation than any other product in Adobe history. Keep in mind that MOST people are able to install without incident, and you probably will as well.
Like any other software installation, there are certain general rules you should follow, like turning off your anti-virus and setting a system restore point in Windows, but there are a number of known issues at this point that lead me to offer the following advice based on my own experience and reading what others have found on the Adobe user forums. If you are not comfortable doing the things outlined below, get help from someone who knows what they are doing.
My first installation failed because of a bad DVD drive that had problems reading a file. I figured this out after about 3 hours of waiting for the installer to do nothing after it was 60% complete, so I tried copying the DVD to my desktop to install from there. That’s when Windows threw a copy error and I knew what was going on. I replaced the drive and it went fine. Some people are also reporting bad disks, which Adobe will replace. If you’ve ever experienced trouble with playing a DVD on your drive, I’d try copying and running from the desktop.
Now for the real information. First and foremost be sure your system meets the minimum requirements for installation, or the installer will not run, and may not tell you why. Remember that minimum requirements are just that, the least you need for the programs to function. To function well you will need a fast computer with lots of RAM, at least 1 GB, and 2 is better. In order to install you MUST BE LOGGED IN AS AN ADMINISTRATOR. In fact I recommend the built in Administrator account, which is often hidden from users on Windows XP. If you need directions on how to get to it, let me know, but any administrator account should work.
Uninstall Flash Player 8 (I had to download the uninstaller from Adobe.com. See the link below).
Click Start > Run and type MSconfig and hit enter. Disable all non-essential services and all non-essential items in the startup items, particularly anything to do with Anti-virus, spyware protection or third party firewalls, and then reboot. You can hide all Microsoft service in the services tab of MSconfig to make it easier, and most of what’s left will be non-essential, though if anything looks like it has to do with your DVD drive or your mouse you’ll want to leave it checked. It’s probably safe to turn off everything in the Startup tab, but again, if you recognize a mouse driver, leave it on. MSconfig will run as soon as you restart the computer and if everything seems OK, just cancel for the moment.
Be sure the Windows firewall is disabled. Third-party firewalls should have been disabled in Msconfig. Other things that should be disabled include any instant messenger, iTunes, and Google toolbars or similar from other vendors if you run them.
Click Start > Run and type “regsvr32 jscript.dll” with the space, but without the quotes, and hit enter. You should see a dialog saying it was successful. In theory this should not be necessary, but some manufactures apparently don’t enable javascript by default. Doing it again won’t hurt anything.
Set Internet Explorer as the default browser, be sure Java is enabled, and turn off pop-up blocking (may not be necessary, but Java certainly is).
Be sure you have some sort of default printer (as far as I know, even fax viewer will do) and that it is online if it is a physical printer.
Adobe recommends that you not have more than one version of Acrobat installed on your computer. The CS3 installer should remove old versions on it’s own, but feel free to use Add/Remove programs to do it first.  There is no need to remove previous versions of other Adobe products (other than the Flash player mentioned above), and if you’ve got old files you still want to work with, or you need to exchange files with people who don’t have the newest versions, I recommend keeping the old versions installed, at least for a while, if you have space on your hard drive. Among other things, they will continue to work even if the new ones don’t.
Run the installer. It took about 40 minutes on my computers, but times will vary depending on your system. More than two hours and I think you have a problem. Hopefully you will be able to complete the online registration and activation, and it will probably want to download updates, too. You can always get the updates yourself from Adobe.com. If you should happen to receive any messages about Bonjour trying to access the internet or similar, be sure you allow it.
Once the installation is complete, reboot your computer. This time in Msconfig check the “normal startup” box to return your system to its regular configuration and restore your antivirus and firewall protection. Correct any other changes you made that MSconfig didn’t fix, and enjoy.

  • How to reinstall CS3 after uninstalling suite and getting error messages?

I have been using CS3 for a few years, and just a couple of weeks ago the InDesign program was having troubles, so I uninstalled the programs, and tried to reinstall from disc, but there are error messages and will not reinstall.  I cleaned up all Adobe files off my system using Windows 7.  Any tips to reinstall CS3?
    Paul

Run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) to be sure CS3 is really gone, then run MSconfig and turn off all the unnecessary startup programs and services, especially ant-virus and malware scanners, instant messengers, browser helpers and toolbars (but leave Bonjour running if it's in the list) and reboot. If you see a message about running in diagnostic mode on reboot, cancel MSconfig, then run the installer (and using the normnally disabled Administrator account won't hurt, either). After installation you can run MSconfig again and return to normal startup.

  • After reinstalling CS3 I cannot get bridge (or photoshop) to update

I had to reinstall CS3 due to some graphics issues. I've restarted the computer and bridge/ps several times...and keep hitting the update button but after updateing adobe reader..it doesn't find anymore updates. So I still have 4.0 and cannot read canon 50D raw files as well as many more issues.
I'm running 10.5.5 2,0 dual core PC chip with 5 gig ram.

The Adobe Updater does seem to work in CS4 however.
A new Updater has been posted and there are a bunch of small updates for the Suite listed for downloading and installing and it would be a pain to do all of them manually.
If you have library/application Support/Adobe open while the installation is happening, you will see just how many files are being uninstalled and replaced by this operation!
I have just run the Updater (via Photoshop CS4's Help Menu) and it went flawlessly.

  • Help reinstall cs3 from hard drive crash

I have cs3 installed on a pc and a laptop. My laptop crashed so I installed a new hard drive. When I went to reinstall cs3 an error message came up saying it can't complete installation due to licensing. I have to deacivate any of the previous unused licenses to be able to reinstall right? Any help on how I can do this? Or is there something else I have to do?
    Joe

The one on the laptop activated fine but the PC one says: the maximum number of activations have been reached then it tells me to deactivate or to buy a new license
Which doesn't make sense because before the hard drive crashed i had cs3 installed and activated using the same serial number on both the PC and the laptop.

  • Reinstalling CS3 on Windows 7

When I upgraded my laptop from Vista to Win 7 it was not necessary to unload the platform, and my CS3 Extended carried over to Win 7 with no problems. I recently upgraded my desktop (Win XP) to Win 7, but it was necessary to unload the platform to do the upgrade. When I went to reinstall CS3 Extended on the Win 7 platform I discovered that the disc case for my CS3 was long gone, and I am unable to retrieve the Ser # so I can reinstall my CS3 Ext on the Win 7 platform. I have the CS3 disc(s), but am stuck without the Ser#. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Have you registered the application with Adobe?
Click the red logo at the top of this page, then find the (small) My Adobe link.  That should take you to a list where you can view your products, and hopefully retrieve your serial number.  Caveat:  I'm not sure that works with registered products that weren't bought from Adobe as downloads.  I hope it does.

  • Can't reinstall CS3.  "All Components Fail to Install"

I had been running CS3 on Windows Vista 32. First received, out of the blue, the dreaded error that licensing had stopped working.  Was not able to rectify by the long list of ususual means.  Finally was instructed by adobe tech support to uninstall CS3 and reinstall.  Uninstall apparently successful (confirmed with Microsoft Fixit Tool that did find and fix some registry errors).  Can't reinstall CS3 either from DVD or from desktop.  Receive status report after install script finishes:  "All Components Failed to Install."  I have spent over 23 hours on this problem to no avail.  PLEASE HELP!

Thanks for the reply, but I did all that already.  After much research and seeing what's worked for others, below is a rundown of what I've already tried...  (much of my process below came from http://na-na-sa-ra.blogspot.com/2008/06/how-to-re-install-adobe-cs3-after.html which I too had found and had hoped would help.)
After attempting to uninstall CS3 from the control panel, I ran the Adobe CS3-5 cleaner, numerous times selecting various listed options during the script run.  After running each time, I ran the MS Fixit tool (http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall) that reportedly will "fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled".   After each run of the MS Fixit tool, I attempted to reinstall CS3 - the install script would run for a good long while, showing (slow) progression of a status bar, but in the end give a status report saying that all components failed to install.  Even though complete installation failed, Adobe CS3 would be on the list of programs in the control panel, so I would repeat an "uninstall" from the the control panel, and rerun the MS Fixit tool.  Sometimes the MS Fixit tool would find/correct problems, othertimes it would report that no problems were found.  I repeated this procedure for all the options given in the CS Cleaner Tool script without success.  Thinking it might be a problem with attempting to install from the DVD (which has never been a problem before), it was suggested to try installation from the desktop (copied all DVD files to a desktop folder).  Repeated the entire above process using the "desktop files" instead of the DVD.  No luck.  (...and phoning Adobe tech support was not productive - they sent me here to the forums.)
Really appreciate you trying to help.  Have any other suggestions?

  • Reinstall cs3 on mac

We're having problems connecting to websites with DW CS3. The
    mac can
browse to sites, ftp using Fetch, etc. but cannot connect via
    DW. We
also have a pc running DW CS3 going through the same
    connection (cable
modem) as the mac and it connects with no problem at all.
    We've been
running on this mac (OS10.4.8) for over a year with no
    problems till
this morning. I'm not sure what the best way to reinstall cs3
    would be.
Should we uninstall first then do an install? Or should we
    just install
over the current install? I'm assuming there will be no
    licensing issues
    doing a reinstall.
Is there a resource detailing how to do this online that
    someone could
refer me to. All I have found so far is doing a new install.
    Thanks for any help/advice.
    Fred

It's fixed. All it took was shutting the Mac down while we
    went to
lunch. Came back and DW was working fine. We had shut down
    and restarted
twice earlier to no avail. Go figure.

  • How to reinstall pre-installed iWorks after hard drive replaced?

iWork was pre-installed on my iMac (July 2010) 3.2 gHz i3 running OS10.6.8. The original hard drive was recalled by Apple and replaced. I backed up all data to Crash Plan prior to the change out. When I tried to open any of the iWorks programs I received the following error message:
I checked my install discs and application install discs, but iWork does not show up there. How can reinstall these programs?

Thanks, mate, but the computer did not come with any iWork DVD. It only had the OS install disc and the Application restore disc, neither of which contain iWork. The error message reads: "Pages cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Pages works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X. Clic Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple."
I sent a report to Apple. This message repeats for Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. My original receipt shows the iWork app was paid for.
