How to reinstall Firefox without old bookmarks?

I was using Firefox on both Windows and Mac, and keeping the bookmarks synchronized using Xmarks. Then, as most people know, Xmarks stopped working. I continued using Windows as my main computer, so my bookmarks there are the most up-to-date, and I've backed them up in an HTML file.
Now I want to stop using Windows and switch to the Mac completely. To get the most up-to-date bookmarks, I uninstalled Firefox in the Mac and then reinstalled v15 so I could put in the up-to-date bookmarks. I've tried this a few times now, but every time I do, it pulls in all the old bookmarks. How can I prevent this, so I can get a naked Firefox and then add the latest bookmarks (the HTML file from Windows)?
I've tried resetting Firefox to its default, but it still keeps my old bookmarks and add-ons. I even found instructions somewhere to open Firefox in safe mode, but then I couldn't find the next command that I was supposed to use.

You can use a JSON backup from the Windows computer to restore (replace) all the bookmarks on the Mac computer.

A reset doesn't work because in cases like this that automatically imports the bookmarks among other data from the previous default profile.

  • How do uninstall / reinstall Firefox without losing bookmarks / favorites

I recently upgraded Firefox to the 'optimized for Yahoo' version and have been experiencing slow starts and stalls. This happened once before when I upgraded Internet Explorer to an 'optimized for Yahoo' version. I was able to uninstall it and reinstalled the latest version from Microsoft, but I lost all my bookmarks / favorites in the process.

I reinstalled Firefox and the problem was solved. I have to say I am pretty disappointed with the support that I have got here. The helpers listed all the ways that I try to fix the problem but none of them worked. Also backing up data did not do anything. I lost all my history and saved password even though I followed the exact same steps as you gave me.
Seems like a lot of people are facing the youtube video problem, hope you guys can figure out how to fix it so that everyone is satisfied with using your service.
    Thank you.

My old Gateway laptop died (about 2 years old)but the harddrive is still good. I was able to retrieve all my old info EXCEPT I can't figure how to get to my old bookmarks file so I can copy them into my new computer. I believe. I have tried several forums, but the instructions don't give me the results I need. I am running my old drive with a USB adapter so I can see all my files, but can't get to/find the bookmark file.

  • How do I find an old Bookmarks folder and addresses therein on Time Machine?

How do I find an old Bookmarks folder and addresses therein on Time Machine?  My current bookmarks folder was overwritten by iCloud.

    Short Version: Restore ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Long Version: First you need to open your (normally hidden) Library folder.  One way is to press option then use the Finder Go menu to select "Library".  In there you will find a Safari folder. Open that folder then enter Time Machine.  Restore Bookmarks.plist.

  • How do you get your old bookmarks back that is gone from firefox upgrade?

Firefox really screwed up with the bookmarks with the new browser. I found another work around besides the other post. You may need the older browser so go to the other link and install the older browser after you uninstalled the new browser. Right now I am using Palemoon browser to post this which is a true 64bit browser and looks like a clone of Firefox. Really impressed with Palemoon so I am going to continue to try it out.
Go here for instructions to restore your old bookmarks. Like I said you may need to reinstall the older Firefox. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them?esab=a&s=restore+bookmark+from+backup&r=0&as=s#w_restoring-from-backups
If your bookmarks are on another PC computer go where Firefox keeps a backup of your bookmarks in your pc. In Windows 8 it is located in
    C:\Users\lion\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\5eczdook.default\bookmarkbackups
In Windows 7 and XP it is located somewhere in the AppData. Just browse to the AppData folder and find your way to Mozilla
In the Mac it is similar but in the Library I believe. With a Mac just use common sense and Linux basics.
Once you located the bookmarks, look for the file with the date you want. Copy that sucker and paste it in the proper folder on the other computer where you want your bookmarks restored. Then run the Restore and mentioned above.
    Your done!
If you want to check out Palemoon goto http://www.palemoon.org/ ...Palemoon defaults with Duckandgo search engine which is an up and coming search engine that doesn't track you and provides listing that focuses on keywords. I am liking it also.

    Hi gman411,
This forum is for questions about Firefox. Please see the Palemoon forum [http://forum.palemoon.org/]

  • I want to reinstall Firefox without addons and plugins but keeping bookmarks

I have 4.0.1 installed but somehow it interferes with Skpye and I want to reinstall both

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems?esab=a&s=troubleshooting&r=3&as=s#w_5-reinstall-firefox here].
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

I dont know why this message has appeared. i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox after completely deleting all files and folders of mozilla from program files and registry.Despite of that firefox will not start and keep giving error message. i can not reset firefox without openning firefox.Profile does not open in window search.

how shall i fix and restore firefox as i am desperate please , please help....

    Does that Profiles/2tt76737.default still exist?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

    Hi,
Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-use-bookmarks?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Bookmarks this.] You can look at the star in the location (address) bar. If it's colored, it usually means the page has been successfully bookmarked.

  • How to reinstall itunes without windows error 2

how can i reinstall itunes without "windows error 2"

Ah iTunes, how you make me lose my hair.....
I got it working, but not before it imported all of the wrong stuff.  I set the Media Folder to precisely what I wanted it to import (all of my daughter's Top 40 songs), and then found the Music option "Add MP3 and AAC Files from your folder".  That seemed to be the correct option, so I clicked it.  Unfortunately, it didn't just stick to my folder, but went off on its merry way adding any song from any folder.  It dumped hundreds of ACDC and Aerosmith songs into iTunes (neither band is particularly stingy with F-bombs on live albums) into my daughter's list of teeny bopper titles.  When I tried to remove them from the iTunes library, it put up a scary warning that if I removed those songs it would delete them from every iDevice within a 5KM radius.
There doesn't seem to be any way within iTunes of removing all songs from a particular folder or hard drive directory, which would have been nice.  In fact, I can't figure out how to show the filename anywhere within iTunes (isn't that a bit odd?).  So I manually removed the 2K songs it had imported, which took a good hour.  Then I found the File - Add Folder to Library option, and that one allowed me to select the folder I wanted to import.  I hate to say it, Apple makes great hardware products, but iTunes seems to come from an entirely different planet.

  • How to have Firefox use same bookmark file when running on either Windows XP or Ubuntu (dual boot desktop)

Recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop in a dual-boot configuration with Windows XP. (Ubuntu is awesome !)
I can run Firefox on either OS - each version maintaining its own bookmark file.
Is there any way to have each version of Firefox look in the same place for the bookmark file ? That would remove the need to regularly export/import bookmarks between versions to keep them in sync.
    Thanks !
    Andrew Chorlton

    You can use Firefox Sync.
