How to reinstall ilife in a second hand mac

Hi I found several tthreats with this problem. after reinstalling mac os lion, ilife suite is not available. If this is a second owner, with different apple id than the first one, app store will not allow them to download the apps.
The solution in the forums work in other cases: same owner reinstalling mac os and ilife, for example. Others just plainly suggest to buy them, which is neither possible, since app store does not allow you, because the mac "has" the apps already. here is the solution /thumbs up fro apple genius bar!!!
ANOTHER SOLUTION TO GET BACK ILIFE AFTER FRESH INSTALL OF MAC OS
I went to the apple store and told them exactly what i did> purchased the mac from the original owner, fresh install of Mac OS lion, ilife apps not appearing and unable to downloead because " they were assigned to another id". The woman smiled, got a hard drive with ilife suite, and installed. She said anyone could solve the problem if they had a copy of ilife in a dvd. She says this problem started when mac os  was shipped with ilife installed, but without the bundled dvd or original dmg file.
Of course, she suggested me to buy the new apps, but i declined. I could have also order a hard copy of ilife from applecare, thought. So, for those without a mac store nearby, it is a potential solution. Please note that the mac have had always the right to have the apps, so it is a legal installation.
good luck  to all! it is possible to recover the ilife.
Sorry for not putting it as a question, but i got the answers, hopefully helpful to others.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Apple doesn't sell the iLife apps on a disk any longer and Apple Care doesn't sell Apple software, the Apple Retail store does. The apps this "Apple emplyee" placed for free on your Mac are not the same versions of the apps that came preinstalled on the Mac and they are not the Mac App Store (MAS) versions. And they will not be udates by the MAS. You may be able to get updates through Software Update.
I doubt that it is a policy of Apple to have its employees installing the iLife apps from an old disk for free on 2nd hand Macs, so others trying to get this done may not be successful.

  • How to Reset Second Hand Mac Mini?

I'm about to purchase a second hand mac mini from ebay. It's the MD387LL/A model. I've verified that it is still under the one year warranty.
How do I reset the mac mini so that:
I get a factory fresh install so it's like new
The one year warranty will be in my name/appleID
I can purchase an AppleCare extended warranty and apply it to this unit that I'm purchasing.
Any advice? Am I going to need the previous owner to do anything to it? Or can I do this on my own without their help?
    Thanks!

I have just required a second hand mac and when I try to download a song or import a cd to iTunes an error notice says that I am not priveledged to make changes? The preference settings and apple I'd seem to be ok. How do I fix this?

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • How can I register a second hand mac book to my apple account?

I just bought a second hand mac book, and I would like to register it to ;y account to be able to access things (like my ibooks) registered from my iPad directly on my mac book.
the previous owner asked the apple supprt and they said I need to contact them to make them update the information about this mac book to my account, but I can't contact them because the mac book does not have any guarantee anymore ... I don't need a technical supprt, just need to update the mac book information to my accound.
    what ca I do?

thnaks for the answer. The previous owner asked apple care to disassociate the mac but they said that the new owner needs to contact them so that they can update the ownership (apparently they can't leave it with nobody).
In fact the previous owner erased the HDD, and as it is my first mac book, I did not have any licence to re-install it so we re-installed it with his accout.
the previous owner used the chat support, but I can't find it

  • How to reinstall a hard drive on a mac pro that was accidentally dragged out of Finder

How to reinstall a hard drive on a mac pro that was accidentally dragged out of Finder?  I have files on this drive that I don't want to loose or corrupt.

If you mean you dragged the hard drive shortcut out of the sidebar of a Finder window, you're quite all right - that's just a shortcut and you haven't lost any files. You can get it back by going to Finder preferences (the Finder menu, then Preferences), click Sidebar, and tick the "hard drives" box fully to show all hard drives.
Post back if you did something different though.

    Hi,
i have just brought a second hand, 2008/09 intel IMAC. The issue i have is i want to wipe it and start again and register it in my name not the previous owners name?
Any help will be most appreciated

All you need is the 10.6.x disc and insert into the SuperDrive. Then reboot while holding down the C key when you hear the startup tone. Open Disk Utility - Erase and then reinstall OS X. No registration is necessary.

  • Buying a second hand mac pro or iMac?

After a fan failure (leaving the HD the only part that hasn't been replaced), I do worry about my 2009 Macbook Pro's longeivity and if it's worth picking up another machine for audio work or not. My concern is if I end up doing something like putting an SSD in my Macbook Pro and then the logic board fails or something, it's just wasted money.
Can't really go for a new machine, as I cant afford it, still use Logic 8, still use OSX 10.6.8 and have invested in a decent Firewire interface, so I'll need an older machine and was thinking a desktop would be more beneficial and then I can just use my MBP for other things and run it into the ground.
Options are either a 2009 Mac Pro or a 2011 iMac. This will be solely for home studio purposes, where I run average sized projects (20 tracks minimum) and do some multitrack recording etc. My laptop has 8GB RAM, 2.53gHZ processor and can generally hold on OK (occasional system overloads with CPU intensive plug-ins) so I won't need once that's fully decked out but something that will hopefully keep me going for a few more years.
Obviously my main concerns when buying an older computer is how long they last, so I'd be interested to hear from people about their experience with buying second hand computers of a similar age/spec. The iMacs tend to run slightly cheaper, but are running a similar spec to my current laptop (obviously the processor in the iMacs is a quad core) but the Mac Pros allow a lot more flexibility in upgrading.
I'm definitely a 'run things into the ground' kind of guy and am still very happy using an old version of Logic etc so upgrading that kind of stuff isn't something I'm particularly interested in doing unless it's a last resort. Understandably, I don't want to shell out for a 2009 Mac Pro which could have everything fail on me a year down the line, but I don't feel the need to have the most current spec computer.

    2009 MacBook Pro:
putting an SSD in my Macbook Pro and then the logic board fails or something, it's just wasted money.
In the 2009 MacBook Pro model, SSD is installed as a 2.5" drive with a standard SATA interface in a little metal can. It is not a "throw away". That drive that can be adapted to a sled in a Mac Pro 42 lb silver tower, or placed in an external enclosure for use with any Mac. (Macs can boot from any specified drive, internal or external.)
SSD uses less power, and is completely silent, and fast. Did I mention that practically all of them are fast?
The Mac Pro (42 lb silver tower) can continue to be upgraded slightly and will keep working as long as you are willing to keep it in good repair. It is more compelling if you need Large memory, add-on cards, or multiple-processor speed. 2009 model Mac Pro 4,1 and later are superior. Do not pay money for a model older than the 2009 model.
In my opinion, the iMac, with its more limited upgrade possibilities has the same problem as buying an acoustic piano for your home. ¿In a few years, will I own a really awful mechanism inside a great piece of furniture [great display]?

  • How to reinstall Quicktime Plugin for Safari in Mac

I recently deleted all plugins for Safari in Mac, in order to fix unusual (slow at times) speed of safari.
When I watch a trailer at apple.com/trailers, it works fine.
However, when I try to watch a HD version of the trailer, I get this message
"The document “stone-fte1_480p.mov” could not be opened. "
Please advise how to reinstall the necessary Quicktime plugin in order for it work fine like before.

    Hi and welcome....
Insert your install disc or your Snow Leopard disc. It should open when it mounts the disc on your Desktop. If not, double click the icon.
Open the Optional Installs folder then the Optional Installs.mpkg folder.
Go through the install process. When you get to Installation Type / Custom Install
    Select QuickTime 7
Click Continue. Restart your Mac. Then repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
If you don't have your install disc handy, you can download the QT software here. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923

  • Reinstall ML on a second hand MacBook

    Hi people,
I recently bought a used Macbook retina, which had ML installed. The previous owner had already erased his data, but I wanted a "fresh start", so I went on reinstalling ML. I followed the usual steps (control-R during boot-up=>erased disk=>chose reinstall ML) but then I had to enter my AppleID and since I didn't buy it myself, the installer didn't let me proceed with the installation.
How can I install ML? Should the previous owner somehow transfer the license to me?
    Thanks,
    Dimitris

Do you know if the system came pre-installed with ML? If it came with Lion,  you might be OK to reinstall Lion via Internet Recovery (Control + R + Option); then upgrade to ML with your Apple ID (assuming your purchased ML from the App Store). Try that and see what the OS X Utilities shows for Reinstalling OS X. As far as the iLife apps, I think the previous owner needs to take care of that with Apple so you can use your Apple ID.

  • HT1338 How to Reinstall ilife apps and ICal from Original disc...

My hard drive crashed. With my new hard drive, I somehow no longer have Calendar (iCal), Pages, Numbers or Keynote. I have my original discs from getting my computer July of 2011. How do I reinstall the apps I've lost? I don't want to mess up any other data!
    Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion. I unpacked iCal from the CD using Pacifist. However the iCal application still does not work. I get an error message saying the iCal version 3.0.8 does not run with the current version of the operating system (OS X 10.6.8).  I have also tried reinstalling a copy of iCal (version 4.0.4) from a Timemachine backup made a month or so ago - but same problem it won't run and the error message says its the wrong version for my operating system.  Worse still iMail has stopped working as well and offers up a similar error message (iMail version doesn't work with this version of the OS).  This is baffling because the entire operating system and bundled applications were re-installed in January this year by a Mac dealer when the hard drive was replaced.  The Timemachine backup was done in May when everything worked so it is hard to understand why restoring the same version of iCal does not work now.
Seems Macs are great when they work but impenetrable for the average user when things get out of sync.

  • How to reinstall iLife and iWork in macbook after reinstallation of maverick

I need help to reinstall the iLife and iWork which was initially preinstalled in my new macbook pro late 2013. Unfortunately, both were gone after I did a Maverick reinstallation as I accidentally deleted some wrong files causing OS to crash. Appstore requires I pay for it although both apps were initially free and bundled together with my laptop. Kindly advise.

Hi Terence, I have solved the predicament. Apparently I was using my wife's apple ID when I first register my macbook. Therefore, I am now able to redownload the iphoto through appstore.
    Thank you by the way.

  • How to reinstall ilife

I have just bought my mac pro, and i don not find the ilife. How should I instal it? in the box it is written that it comes with the computer.
    tks

Is this a Brand New Mac bought from a Real Apple store or reseller?
iLife is not listed but the iLife apps that Apple now supplies with Lion are on the drive, that is IF it is a brand new system.
If you bought it used there may be some problems getting those apps. As that Mac is registered to the original owner.
You could try logging into the Mac mApp store with your Apple ID and see if you can download the ones you want.
