How to reinstall iTunes 4.7.1?

I recently upgraded to a version 6 on iTunes but once installed my iPod would not be recognized by my mac. I've deleted iTunes 6 and installed version 5 but this wold not read the iPod either. I've now deleted 5 and tried installing version 4.7.1. However, once I get to installation type iTunes package is disabled and I'm unable to install. Can anyone please help as I now am left with no iTunes installed and unable to install the version I want.

Remove all 'iTunesx.pkg' files from ./Library/Receipts.
x stands for a number or the character 'X' or 'X 6.0.4'
Then try installing again.
Purchased music once authorized with iTunes 6 does not play with previous versions.
Have you tried to restore your iPod?

  • How to reinstall itunes on Yosemite

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro runs Yosemite 10.10.1
My current iTunes version is 12.0.0.140
iTunes installation is by default, I made no particular changes to it.
My App Store application is 2.0 (376.0.5) and tells me there is a iTunes 12.0.1 upgrade available.
When I click on Update in my App Store, the new iTunes version is downloaded and App Store tells me it did the update.
However, App Store comes back telling me exactly the same information, that is there is a new iTunes version available. And if I check the current iTunes version, it is still the old 12.0.0.140 that is running. This problem exists since I installed Yosemite and the latest iTunes version 12.0.1 was available.
So I decided to reinstall iTunes from scratch
    - I saved my directory Music (simply copying the existing Music directory to Music.old).
    - Then I changed the permissions of the iTunes application file to Read & Write to everyone.
    - Then I try to move the application to the WasteBasket and receive the message :
"iTunes cannot be deleted as it is part of Yosemite" (translation from french, so I'm not sure how it does appear in english)
I looked on internet and some people succeed to deinstall iTunes with "MacClean" but I dont have it on my laptop.
So my question is how can I reinstall iTunes on Yosemite ?
Ho to be sure I keep all my music, iPod, iPhone, iPad, ... information while doing reinstalling iTunes ? (I have TimeCapsule running)
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Marc

according to this support page: OS X Mavericks: Reinstall apps that came with your Mac
you should re-download itunes from this page: https://www.apple.com/itunes/
run the installer and itunes should be reinstalled

  • How to reinstall iTunes with Error 2?

How can I get assistance to download and reinstall iTunes on my Vista powered PC?  I had a horrible adware virus and removed iTunes only to find I get error messages telling me to uninstall and then reinstall while trying to install it.
    1. I receive an iTunes Helper Error Window when I restart my computer that says “Apple application Support was not found.  Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes Helper. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again. Error 2 (Windows Error 2).”
    2. In addition, I receive a message from iTunes that says, “Service ‘Apple Mobile Device’ (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.”  The three options are ABORT, RETRY, IGNORE.  If I abort of course the install is closed.  If I retry I get the same messages.  If I Ignore I am taken back to the Error 1 above.
I want to be able to connect and sync my PC with my iPad and Android Cell Phone so I can share contacts, calendar events, music, etc.  Please direct me to where or how I might get support and instructions for these problems.
    Thank You
I posed a similar request a week or so ago and think it was answered but I lost it or do not know how to find it.  Please pass along some instruction so I can receive and read and hopefully resolve my current problems.  [email protected]
PS  I also have some problems with getting iCloud mail to show my email from Outlook.  But I will request that in a separate request after resolving this problem.  Thank you in advance.  Barry

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR suitable for your PC (there's a 32-bit Windows version and a 64-bit Windows version):
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, see if iTunes will launch without the error now.
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • HT1414 how to reinstall iTunes? does not recognize my iPad nor my iPhone

Suddenly, iTunes stopped recognizing my iPad and my iPhone. Battery charging, no syncing, both devices invisible. I think I may need to reinstall iTunes. How can I do it without losing my content? Thanks in advance, marek

Before you do anything drastic, try something real simple.
Quit iTunes, reboot the Mac and restart the iPad. I sync via WiFi and it never fails that iTunes will not see my iPad about every 10 days or so and I go through the restart ritual and it has always come back.
It may not work for you, but it beats having to reinstall iTunes - if it does work.

  • How to reinstall itunes without windows error 2

how can i reinstall itunes without "windows error 2"

Ah iTunes, how you make me lose my hair.....
I got it working, but not before it imported all of the wrong stuff.  I set the Media Folder to precisely what I wanted it to import (all of my daughter's Top 40 songs), and then found the Music option "Add MP3 and AAC Files from your folder".  That seemed to be the correct option, so I clicked it.  Unfortunately, it didn't just stick to my folder, but went off on its merry way adding any song from any folder.  It dumped hundreds of ACDC and Aerosmith songs into iTunes (neither band is particularly stingy with F-bombs on live albums) into my daughter's list of teeny bopper titles.  When I tried to remove them from the iTunes library, it put up a scary warning that if I removed those songs it would delete them from every iDevice within a 5KM radius.
There doesn't seem to be any way within iTunes of removing all songs from a particular folder or hard drive directory, which would have been nice.  In fact, I can't figure out how to show the filename anywhere within iTunes (isn't that a bit odd?).  So I manually removed the 2K songs it had imported, which took a good hour.  Then I found the File - Add Folder to Library option, and that one allowed me to select the folder I wanted to import.  I hate to say it, Apple makes great hardware products, but iTunes seems to come from an entirely different planet.

  • Can you advise me how to reinstall itunes properly?

when i open itunes it says i can not burn cds and that i need to reinstall itunes.  i am afraid of doing it because i do not want to lose my playlists or purchased songs.  do you know the appropiate way to reinstall itunes without loosing my playlists and purchased songs?

The best way would be to cleanly remove iTunes and redownload the latest release.
Essentially you want to go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall these 6:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
You will then want to restart the computer. After the restart you will then want to download the latest version from the following link.
Hit the big blue 'Download Now' and hit the option 'Save' when prompted. Save to an easy location such as your desktop and then wait for the download to finish. Once the download is finished you will be prompted to run the file, do this to run through the iTunes Setup Wizard.
You can find more detailed instructions here.

  • How will reinstalling itunes on a shared computer affect other accounts?

I have an iphone in recovery mode and I'm trying to restore it, however, every time I begin to restore it, iTunes quits. I've been told to uninstall and then reinstall iTunes on the iBook. However, it's a shared computer, I need to know if the other iTunes libraries on the other accounts will be affected negatively. Will the other account's data be erased? Should they back up their information? Or will nothing happen to the other accounts?

Will the other account's data be erased?
No. Your account's data won't be erased either.
Should they back up their information?
    Yes.
will nothing happen to the other accounts?
    Yes.

  • HT1364 how to reinstall itunes library from a hard drive???

my laptop died, i have now accessed the hard drive and tired to copy the old itunes folder to my new laptop, all the music is shown as "location cant be found" - can anyone help??

Highlight one of the "missing" files and press CTRL+I to get info. Say no when asked to locate the file and look on the summary tab for where iTunes "thinks" the file is. Now find the true path. Paste both values here and I can suggest the best approach.

  • How to reinstall iTunes and not lose everything from external drive.

I had to reformat my hard drive.  All my iTunes files were (and still are) on an external drive.
When I download the latest version of iTunes, I installed and set up my preferences to change the location of iTunes Media File to External Drive J:\iTunes\iTunes Music.
When iTunes installs, it creates files and folders in C:\Users\Userxyz\Music\itunes
So....Because iTunes didn't show any of my music, playlists, apps, etc. and because I had changed where to keep media files,
I selected the "Add Folder to Library" option
iTunes successfully displays all the music from this external drive and left the music files where they were.
But....it also copied all of this music to a folder on my desktop called "Copy of Itunes".  Now, I have 3 *itl and "xlm files.  One on External Drive J, another in Music\iTunes on Drive C, and a 2nd in Copy of iTunes on the desktop.
Missing from iTunes are my purchases.  All apps, purchased and free.  Playlists.
I have a folder "Mobile Applications"  on the external drive and in Copy of iTunes, but both are empty.
I wonder if I already lost my purchases.
I would also like to keep my files on an external drive because I don't have enough space to keep iTunes on my main drive.
    I also use Vista.....
I hope someone can help.  This is all very confusing
    Jeri

When you say all of your iTunes files were on the external drive, do you mean all, or only the stuff that's inside the red outline below. The most important part of your library is the database file iTunes Library.itl which holds the records of your playlists, ratings and all other data that doesn't get stored in tags.
    Typical layout of iTunes folders:
When the media folder is inside the main iTunes folder as shown above then the library is portable, and if the library is relocated to an external drive it will survive a wipe of the internal drive. However most users typically split their library when they find they are running out of room on the internal drive by choosing a new locaton for the media folder and then consolidating.
If this is what you have done, and you don't have a backup of the library files, the iTunes Library.itl file in particicular, then your old library is lost forever. If you do have the files then it may be possible to get the right library file reconnected to the media provided you haven't been moving things around randomly.
You can check each of the .itl files that you have on your computer in turn using the hold-down-shift-when-starting-iTunes method. If one of these has the correct playlists, and the drive letter of the external drive is the same as before, then it should all work.

  • HT203172 How to reinstall iTunes ?

    To stop:
    Permissions differ on “Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Frameworks/iPodUpdater.framework/iPodUpdater” ; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .
Eevrytime I run Permissions in Disk Utility.

try trashing iTunes (not your library), and re-download iTunes

  • HT5654 How to reinstall itunes?

Is it safe to uninstall without effecting my library?

Nothing should be lost... However... it is both Prudent and Recommended that a backup should have been created and maintained.

Just installed iTunes 10.4.1 and it wouldn't work.  Did a system restore.  ITunes will not boot.  Computer tells me I must reinstall iTunes.  How do I do that?

Thanks, but since iTunes will not boot, I cannot run that iTunes diagnostic.  Just need to know how to reinstall iTunes (Windows XP). Do I need to remove the existing non working version of iTunes, or can I just install iTunes from Apple like I was a new user?

  • HT1751 I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I use a Flash Drive to do so?

I need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes (it won't let me update). I have IE 8 on Windows XP, and iTunes 10 something. In my Program files list I see iTunes and iTunes (2) and even iPod and iPod (2) where a tech had to back up and do this for me before. I'm just trying to fix it all. I keep getting the "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below." I can even run a search and find the folder, but it gives me the same error message. I was planning on using the Microsoft Fix-It tool  to help uninstall then Reinstall iTunes. But I need to backup my library. So, how do I copy or back up my iTunes library of over 1,500 songs? Can I copy the folder to desktop or can I use a Flash Drive to backup my music? I don't want to do anything until I know for sure how I can backup my songs, and then reinstall them into iTunes. Thanks for any help.

Ok, thanks that helps. I don't have an external hard drive though. What about backing up through 'the cloud'? I'm just wondering since my husband syncs his iPod to the PC through iTunes and he's worried that he will lose all the songs on his iPod if the library is lost from iTunes and he tries to 'sync' it up again. I'm not exactly sure how to  'copy the entire iTunes folder' either. I kinda suck at this unless I have step by step instructions, which I haven't found yet on iTunes help or other sources.
The only way I know how to back anything up is by going back to a restore point, etc. (as stated before, we don't have an external hard drive.)
    Thanks for the info.
