  • Can't login to Mac App store on mac mini. Is it because my ethernet port is fried?

    Hi
like many others, I am unable to log in to the mac app store on my mac mini.  I get the error message saying "An unknown error has occured". I believe the ethernet port is damaged after an electrical storm, but I can still get online wirelessly.  I've read on these forums that the app store verifys the account using the ethernet port.  Can anybody confirm if this is the case, is there a workaround that anyone knows of?
I can log into the App store on my laptop fine, just not the mac mini.
    Thanks in advance
    Paul

This is happening on 2 of my machines.  One is OSX Lion, the other OSX Mountain Lion.  My personal rig works just fine - all on the same network, all with the same basic configuration.  All can log in and out of iTunes, but the two servers can't login via Appstore. My rig and one of the servers even use the same Ethernet driver, so it's not that.
I would seriously doubt your Ethernet card would be working at all if it was indeed damaged by the lightning.  The transducers are relatively sensitive, and it would either fry or not.  You won't get "intermittent" operation as you have described.  Here is a list of all the things I've tried (based on a number of forum suggestions), none of which has worked:
    1) Sign out of itunes, sign back in, try to sign in to AppStore.
    2) Re-enter information in  your account info and save it again (knew that wasn't it but tried anyway).
    3) Ran AppStore as root.
    4) Using EFIStudio, I got the hex string ID of my ethernet card and specifically reference "device-properties" in the boot.plist.  Others  have said this works, so you might give it a try -
    http://legacy.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=169&t=28477
    5) Deleted all other ethernet devices to avoid "confusion" of the return.
    6) Verified I can get HTTPS returned from NAT device.
    7) Used Wireshark to get a packet capture of it working on mine and not working on the other.  On the one that doesn't work, all I get is a couple of SYNs to the appstore and then nothing.  It was along these lines that I was hoping the "device-properties" would work.
I just thought of something though.  If I don't see that ACK at all, it might be sending the packets somewhere else.  hmmm.  I'm going to hard-code in all HTTPS to be routed to that box and try it just for S&G.
    Good luck!

  • Can't log into Mac App Store from Mac Pro Desktop.

Earlier this evening I logged into the Mac App Store fine from my MacBook Pro and downloaded an app. Now I want to do same from mt Mac Pro desktop. Despite repeated attempts I can't log in. It just sits and cranks.

    Hello Canyonlight,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you were not able to log in to the Mac App Store to download applications on March 11th.
The iTunes Store services were experiencing issues at that time, which may have affected your attempts. You can see the system status for Apple services at this link:

Please try logging in again, if you haven't already. Feel free to reply and let us know if the issue continues.

  • Current iPhoto program unresponsive. How to reinstall from App Store?

I'm running a Mac mini, OSX 10.6.8, 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo.
I purchased this unit used. I do not have any reinstall DVDs or anything like that. When I try to run iPhoto (9.2.3), which came with the computer, it always locks up (spinning beach ball). I have tried everything I can do to rebuild the program/folders/pictures (it didn't always stall on me) but it continues to lock up.
I figured I would just delete this copy of iPhoto from my computer and purchase a new copy. However, the App Store says I need OSX 10.9 or later in order to run the version of iPhoto they are selling. How can I get a new version of iPhoto that will work with my computer?
What do you think? Will it work to delete my current version of iPhoto and purchase another one? If so, how can I get the right (older) version of iPhoto that will work with my machine?
    Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the reply, LarryHN. I rebuilt everything possible by opening iPhoto in the way that you said. It still locks up once the albums and folders load--I cannot see or get to any of my pictures before it stalls.
I'm wondering if any of this has to do with the fact that I bought this machine used. Either way, rebuilding the database should work unless something is corrupt with the program. What I'm afraid of is that I will purchase a new copy of iPhoto and it will do the same. If that happens, though, at least I should be able to get a free call into Apple Support. I've been trying to find a fix for this problem for 6-7 months.
    Any other suggestions for me?

  • Reinstalling lion from app store, can I still have Snow Leopard on a partition?

I rushed out too early to install Lion via Apple Apps store.  Now, I realize that Rosetta is gone and so are my options to use older apps.
I have never partition my hard drive, but using disk utility I created a partition called "Snow Leopard."  It divided my HD in half which is okay.  I closed the disk utility window, rebooted holding down the "C" key, and saw the OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD v10.6.2.  When I select it, a window pops up saying, "You can't use this version of the appl inst Mac OS X with this version of Mac OS X.  You have installed Mac OS X 23.1.1."
Before downloading lion, I made a backup of my existing Snow Leopard HD using Time Machine to an external HD.  When I open up a saved version dated a month ago, I see that the applications that were working in Snow Leopard now have the icon circle saying that it is not supported by Lion.  This is strange since I used Time Machine to back up my HD, then turned off the app before downloading Lion.  Even older versions saved on the external HD show the circle.
I read about lion and the "Recovery HD," but when I hold down the Command-R key nothing happens when I restart my computer.  It also talks about using the option key but that does not work.  It talks about reinstalling lion using this system, but I don't see it working.
I have now decided to download Iion again from the Apps Store, got the option key to work and as of now it is slowly downloading.  I plan to make a bootable DVD of Lion before installing it again.  I also can create a partition called "Lion," since I deleted my partition called "Snow Leopard," or first created a partition called "Snow Leopard" since I deleted it again from the HD.  Since I still have the original Lion install on my iMac, if I create a new partition can I then get the "Snow Leopard," disk to install on that partition?  I tried Carbon Copy, and it loaded in from my external HD to a previous partition but when I opened it up many documents had a "RED X," saying something about permissions.  So that is when I deleted the first partition.
Now, I want to start over, and have two bootable versions, Lion and Snow Leopard.  Can someone tell me the right way to do this?
    Thanks,

    Thanks Pondini,
I read #14 and your helpful hints.  I am afraid to erase and reformat the drive because I am not as knowledgeable as others maybe.  I have a website, and I don't want too loose all of my work and photos if I make a mistake.
I installed the Snow Leopard disk that came with my iMac i5 (2010), I first created a partition labeled "Snow Leopard." Started up the computer and saw the install icon.  I selected the partition and followed the instructions, when that was done, I selected in Utilities, to back up from time machine on my external Seagate HD.  When it was done, I noticed on the desk top two Macintosh HD, but changed back the name of my Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  When I start up from the Snow Leopard HD, I see in the dock my older apps with the icon circle showing that I can't use them, like when I start up from Lion.
On the backup version on my external HD, I selected a date in March for the time machine backup.  When I open up my external drive and select the apps it says, "Can't open up apps because it is in a time machine backup.  Before installing Lion last week I backed up Snow Leopard in time machine and turn it off before installing Lion.
How can I get my old apps to work, it seems that time machine won't allow me to open up my older apps.  The only reason that I am going to all of this trouble is that some older apps like File Maker Pro, Nvu, Motion Pictures HD, Switch, and a few others have some data that I want to see before I decided to trash the folders and just use Lion.
    Any suggestions?

  • App Store for earlier versions of Snow Leopard?

Is there any way to install the App Store app on a computer without upgrading to the version of Snow Leopard that introduced it?

No. AFAIK, it requires at least 10.6.6.

  • Want to have mac app store.  using 10.5.8. what software updates are needed? all seem to be complete.  thanks, want to have mac app store.  using 10.5.8. what software updates are needed? all seem to be complete.  thanks

Would like to have the mac app store available to me on my mac.  I am using10.5.8.  I tried to update to 10.6.8 but got error message indicating that I needed 10.6 first.  I have mac set to automatically do all updates so I thought I was up to date.  If I buy the 10.6 update via apple store and install and then install 10.6.8 will i then have access to the mac app store??

Mac app store is only available on Snow Leopard (10.6). You will need to purchase the upgrade. Only Lion (10.7) is available as a download through the app store and you need SL first.

  • How do you reinstall the app store on a mac computer?

I accidentally deleted the app store on my macbook pro. How do you reinstall the app store app on your computer?

There is no Mac App Store on Mac OS X 10.6.5 or earlier.
On Mac OS X 10.6.6 through 10.6.8, run the combo updater for your OS version or a newer Snow Leopard one.
On Mac OS X 10.7 or newer, restart with the Command and R keys held down, and reinstall the OS.

  • How can I find the Mac app store if there is one?

I have one Apple ID. When I enter my Apple ID on my Mac I can only access apps for my ipad and iphone but not my Mac. Is there a mac app store?

There is a Mac App Store on Macs with iOS 10.6.6 and above; Snow Leopard, Lion and Mt Lion.
If you have a Mac App Store it can be accessed by a short cut in the Apple menu.

  • Mac App Store on my Macbook Pro

Why can I not find my Mac App Store even though the software is updated? I bought my Macbook Pro in 2009; is it outdated?
I'd really, really appreciate your help.

The only way to install App Store apps on your other macs is to have them running 10.6.7 so that you can access the App Store.
The installer for Snow Leopard is only $29 so it isn't to bad as far as cost, plus you will get all of the extras from 10.6 on your MBP.
You can get it here at Amazon.com http://tinyurl.com/6cd64ba or from the store here at Apple.com.

  • Why is Logic pro (downloaded from mac app store) asking me for a serial number?

I recently bought this mac and haven't had any previous downloads on it. I've managed to download and install logic pro as well as the 2GB "essential" add-on. As I clicked to download the additional 19GB of extras it asked me for a serial number that it says would be on my packaging. I obviously don't have this. I quit logic and tried to open it again and it is asking me for the serial number just to get into logic. Really stuck on this one.

It's compatible. Note that there's an App Store (for iPhones, iPads and iPods touch) and a Mac App Store (for Macs, available since Mac OS X 10.6.6). Just open the Mac App Store and purchase Logic Pro 9

  • Mac app store download restarts every time connection drops

For the past 2 weeks I have been trying to download a game from the Mac App Store. The game file is around 20gig, so it takes quite a bit of time to download.
My issue is: Every time my connection drops or my Macbook goes to sleep, the download has to start again.
For example, today it was 50% (10gig) done, then all of a sudden, it said an error occurred but when I clicked to resume the download, it started from scratch. So I lost about 6 hours of downloading time.
Can anyone help me with this issue?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi ..
Check your download speeds here >  Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
If your download speed is less than 10Mbps, the file may be timing out before it can finish downloading.
Make sure your Mac has sufficient storage space. Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage. Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
Apps such as Little Snitch, Growl, MacKeeper, and anti virus software can prevent apps from downloading
Disable anti virus software if installed
Check the firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall > Firewall Options
    Make sure Gatekeeper is enabled
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected.
If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.
