How to reinstall Mail app in Mavericks 10.9.3

During update process to OS X 10.9.2, my MAIL APP became corrupted and I can't repair it since. The update to 10.9.3 didn't help any. My Applecare expired already.
Is there a documented method to remove all the corrupted files, databases, etc. & start all over? I have all my mail messages in another client so I won't lose anything.
Would rather use the Mail App.

Erase the drive and reinstall is the only "documented" way. Unless you wish to just reinstall Mail by itself. In this case download and use Pacifist. To do the former:
Install or Reinstall Lion, Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Where is the option "Store only headlines" in Mail.app on Mavericks?

Where is the option "Store only headlines" in Mail.app on Mavericks? I used to store all messages on gmail servers. Mail.app on Mountain Lion has feature to load only headlines of e-mails from Gmail. Now It's gone and with new OS Mavericks, I've got 10Gb of mail on my Mac locally.

This problem is slowly killing my machine! I 'upgraded' to a better spec machine so I could synch my phone would you believe it. I couldn't synch my phone and my laptop with a cable, that was fankly incredible.
Now I have a new machine and first thing I did was install mavericks, and now mac mail spends all it's time dowloading mail from may mail accounts. I have 4 imap gmail accounts set up and mail is using 56GB on my local disc to store them.
There use to be an option to limit the disc storage I think 5GB would be quite enough to hald the last few months email locally. Question is how do I set that limit in mavericks. Is there some plist I can edit or something.
Looking at the activity window it seems to spend A LOT of time
    "updating cache directory"
I don't think I even have 56GB staore on the server, so how is it possible that I have more on the local copy?

  • Does anyone know how to restore mail signatures in Mavericks?

Does anyone know how to restore mail signatures in Mavericks?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in earlier versions there is only one.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • TS3579 How do I reinstall mail app on Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Is there an update file that I can pull a recent version of the Mac Mail app from onto my machine?
I am on Mac OSX 10.6.8
    Situation:
I never use Mac Mail, but a recent client of mine was trying to configure it and so I thought I'd pull it up and help them setup an account on the phone.
The problem is,Mac Mail doesn't come up at all. I rarely use email right on my machine, what with Gmail and Thunderbird as my usual modalities with email. The thought of littering my machine with actual email files seems archaic.
    So I deleted Mail app.
I then ran Software Update to see if it would notice the app as missing and attempt to reinstall but that was just wishful thinking. App store doesn't seem to care about existing packages on the machine beyond whatever is purchased in App store so that was a waste of time also.
I don't want to have to go through a lot of shenanigans with update programs and DVDs ...
I remember seeing somewhere how someone simply pulled the app out a recent update and just dragged it onto their machine - if anyone knows which update for 10.6.x Snow Leopard would have this app in it thanks in advance.
    Thanks in advance

    FIXED - THE SOLUTION
    1. Locate your Apple Install DVD #1 - "Mac OSX Install DVD"
    2. Download & install Pacifist See http://www.charlessoft.com/
    3. Download the "Security Update 2012-004" file from here:http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1586
    4. Delete all existing versions of Mail.app on system (See also https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4419244?start=0&tstart=0)
    5. Open Pacifist and choose Open Package
Browse to the Optional Installs folder on the DVD, and open Optional Installs package (mpkg)
Pacifist will take a few minutes to open the package and display its contents.
"Now would be a great time to fill out your registration card" or go get a cup of coffee or cocktail, yes you have time.
Once the package contents have been revealed, locate the Mail.app and attempt to drag it to your Applications folder.
When you do this, Pacifist will prompt you for permission to extract it to where you dragged it to.
    Click Extract
    Then enter your password:
And Pacifist will extract the Mail.app to your Applications folder:
Yes, my apps are all nicely organized - it is legal to organize and declutter the disorganized mess that is your Applications folder, which is how Apple installs it. The only problem is that because Apple thinks a disorganized mess of an Applications folder is just fine, their people don't take into account actually locating the Mail.app when they do the security update, and just assume you'll have it in the sheeple location of "Applications". That's what caused this problem to begin with.
Now, if you try to run this version of the app, on a system previously updated to 10.6.8, you will get an error:
    6. Right, so now you run the SecUpd2012 004, and reboot.
As a side note,  Security Update 2012-004 will s h i t  an unusable version of the Quicktime player into your Applications folder also.
See it there without the proper icon.
Since I had accidently deleted Quicktime 7 from my machine, not really missing it, but I was wondering what happened to it ... so using Pacifist I was also able to get a working version back onto my system the same way as Mail. So while Security Update 2012-004 s h i t s this unusable version into the Applications folder, it does nothing to update the Quicktime 7 app. Perhaps someone else can explain that. So I just deleted the unusable Quicktime Player app.
Now, Mail.app works fine even before reboot, as does Quicktime as is from the Optional Installs mpkg but you gotta reboot after the update but it should work already.

  • How do I reinstall mail.app on OS 10.6.8 without an install disk

Software update recently updated my software automatically to 10.6.8 on my MacBook 2.4 Ghz Intel Core Duo. Apparently because i organize my applications into folders inside the root Applications folder, the mail app was not updated properly. I put the mail.app back in the root application folder and downloaded MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8. After running the update I still have the same problem I get the notice "You can't use this version of Mail with this version of Mac OS X. You have Mail version 4.5 (1084/1085). It can’t be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549). For more information, click the Help button." I don't have original install disk available to me. I don't know what I can do to get my Mail.app to work it is very important because it sorts out all the junk mail. Is there any way to reinstall mail without the original system disk?
Please Allen Eckhart, don't want your help. Can someone else help me?

Seems Apple is making things more difficult with every OS update. Back in the day you used to be able to organize your applications instead of having them all in one folder. You used to have a lot more freedom. More and more it is just easier to use a third party app. So I'm gonna install Thunderbird until Apple comes up with an easy way to fix the mail app. it seems that eveything in help says you just gotta reinstall the system from scratch. I would rather just use an open source product that I can put into any forlder I want without having to worry about it screwing itself up. Had similar experience with Safari now it seems like it is time to get rid of Mail.

  • How to reinstall mail and restore preferences

Mail is going crazy on my MBP and MP. I am on IMAP and the spam functions on both my mac won't work. I have tried a restore and nothing will change. I have some rules and preferences that I would like to keep. How do I uninstall mail and do a clean reinstall? I have app cleaner. I also want to reload my junk mail rules and signatures.
    Cheers.

"Mail is going crazy," is not a very descriptive explanation of your issues. You should provide some details, i.e, what mail service provider are you sing, what error messages are you getting, are you using Mail's junk filtering or a program like SpamSieve, have you tried deleting the Mail accounts and adding them back?
In any case, don't delete the Mail app, unless you want to reinstall Mavericks, the only way to get it back.

  • What is it with Mail app on Mavericks 10.9.2?

This has been an ongoing frustration since I updated to Mavericks, I had no idea it had any relationship with this upgrade until I started reading. First, I read that the issue was being originated when having a Gmail address on Mail, I followed some steps (they didn't make much sense to me, but I did it anyways), where I had to delete all accounts and the follow step by step, I had to add my Gmail account first, then the rest. Problem persisted, I deleted my Gmail for good from my Mail app. For about 2-3 days my iCloud/me account worked with no apparent issues, until, of course when I have the most work to do, ALL my emails stay in Outbox and no matter how many times I ask the system to bring all accounts online, perform all diagnostics, follow any number of forum directions, my account won't work. I have opted for online webmail instead but all my emails on my Outbox are still there, there's no way I can transfer them to my drafts folder so that I can send them out through webmail. Whenever I try doing this then my emails disappear and all my hours of work with them.
It's been an ongoing problem for at least 3-4 months now with good periods of 2-3 weeks with no apparent problems.
I need help I can't work and I also don't like the webmail app, it doesn't allow me to multitask as I usually do on Mail.
    Anyone????

Try one of these options. They both give you a clean start with Mail.
    1) Create a new User. Enter your gmail  account and test. If it works in the new User you know the problem exists in your current User.
    or
    2) You can do this in your current user and it will also nuke all Mail settings.
    1)  Go to your User's Library folder. (if you don't know how to find, see this link.) Do steps a,b,c
    a) Scroll to Mail folder.
Rename Mail OLD. [When you open Mail it will create a new Mail folder. You can revert to this folder if needed by removing OLD from the name. You would need to rename the "new" Mail folder first.]
    b)  Go to Containers in the User's Library folder.
    Delete the com.apple.mail folder.
    c)  Go to Preferences in the User's Library folder.
If you find any com.apple.mail.plist files, delete these.
    2) Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar. Log in.
    3) System Preferences > Internet Accounts > Delete all accounts.
    4) Open Mail.
    5) Enter one account at a time. Test to be sure you are connected before adding other accounts.
If you have Gmail, be sure you have the All Mail folder selected to sync. Workarounds we previously used no longer work in Mavericks. You might need to go into your Gmail Settings in your browser to make the necessary changes. See this article for help:

  • FIXING SYNC PROBLEM MAIL APP IN MAVERICKS

After a few frustrating months with Apple's Mail app not working/syncing with Gmail and following the discussion boards, I have done some digging around and experimenting. It seems the issue is related to the Mavericks' iCloud Keychain and how it interacts with Apple Mail, across various OS X devices. You can follow the discussion I was part of here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/24539602?ac_cid=tw123456#24539602
But below is the process I recommend. (Before engaging in this process, be sure you have taken care of any incompatible software issues. Flip4Mac is a known culprit.) My Apple Mail app is now syncing properly in Mavericks on all three machines running OS X Mavericks.
0:  Close the Mail app and probably all other apps that are running.
1:  Turn off Keychain under iCloud Account in SysPref’s Internet Accounts. Ok to keep passwords on your computer.
    2:  Delete the iCloud Account
3:  Delete all other Internet Accounts
4:  Goto the ~/Library folder, find Mail Folder & Trash it and empty trash (may require a restart to complete).
5:  Open Mail and when asked, add the first IMAP Account back in and let it sync.
6:  Manually add all other mail accounts through Apple Mail Preferences. Let them sync before adding the next one.
7:  Add iCloud account last but do NOT turn Keychain on. Leave it off.
Turning Keychain off means Apple Mail is running more similarly to its pre-Mavericks version when it comes to settings on internet accounts. I did this for all of my computers and so far none of them have gone awry.
Note that one user suggests this before step 4 above:
If you're in the habit of saving a lot of emails locally within Mail and deleting them from your IMAP account, be sure to save those mailboxes before trashing ~/library/Mail. You can then reimport them later.
Try it. It has worked wonderfuly.

    Watching this thread.
Same thing happened.  I upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard
on an mid-2010 MBP and now the Mailbox column disappears every
    time I restart Mac Mail.
    Thanks!

  • Outlook Mail is Malfunctioning in Mail App, Running Mavericks

I downloaded Mavericks back in June, and I haven't had any problems with my Outlook mail in the Mail App until the past couple of days.
Some of the problems I'm having include:
              - Duplicate emails in my "Sent" mailbox
              - Emails will completely disappear if I tried to move them to another folder (not in "Trash", "Junk, or any other folder, just completely gone)
              - Mail is very slow when I try to send it- sits in "Outbox" forever
              - Mail App has to frequently re-download my emails
              - Emails are slow to load in Inbox
    Things I've tried:
              - Rebuilding the mailbox several times
              - Deleting and re-adding the account back.
              - Checked for software updates
Anyone know what's going on? Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have a look, "Internet Accounts" has got the same icon as "Mail, Contacts and Calendars".
"Mail, Contacts and Calendars" has been renamed to "Internet Accounts", so open it. Everything else in this pane is the same as in Mountain Lion or Lion
