Try going to the web based site and see if you can set up a temporary folder there. Move anything you don't want to download to that folder.

  • How do I reinstall messages in os mountain lion ?

I previously attempted to use ichat prior to messages being part of mountain lion
when upgrading to mountain lion , it used all my contacts from ichat , but I am unable to send or recieve messages from macbook
I am also unable to add or delete contacts
    any suggestions welcome ?

The issues you are having all point to data problems, not problems with the program itself. It is very rare to have an application get broken in virtually any way. Trying to re-install the application won't likely help.
Can you create a new account on your Mac and try to use Messages there. That will help determine if the problem is system-wide or isolated to your account.

  • Missing the Message App after Mountain Lion Update

My Macbook Pro totally crashed after the Mountain Lion update, and a wonderful tech support lady at Apple walked me though hours of restoring it. However, now that it is working fine and all programs re-installed, I noticed that the Message app is missing. I really like this app and want it back. I paid for the OS and think I should get everything I had before, plus the update. I shouldn't lose a program in the update, should I? I've read through all the other message boards and can find only general suggestions to search in the spotlight (which I did to no avail), and I have searched for a third-party download. After the trouble I've had, I really just want the program back from Apple. HELP!

If it did not get reinstalled for some reason, then you will need to reinstall. See the following. You can avoid this if you have a prior backup.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • How to open powerPC apps in Mountain lion?

I just updated to Mountain Lion. Before, I had a couple of games I could play without any problems. Now that I have updated my OS I get an error: "the progam can't be opened, because the PowerPC-applications aren't being supported any longer"

    I miss my old mbp.
When you said "just updated" people assumed you UPGRADED to 10.8 from 10.6 and now your PPC apps no longer work.
What it appears now is you purchased a new machine with 10.8 or updated from a factory 10.7 because you said "I miss my old mbp"
I tried to partition my external drive, but I can't install snow leopard onto it.
The machine your booting the 10.6 install disk/usb with has to have had Snow Leopard 10.6 on it at one time or is capable of booting from the 10.6 installer.
There are hardware drivers so OS X can work on different Mac hardware, for newer machines there is no hardware drivers for Snow Leopard and/or the firmware will block booting from the installer/disk.
I tried to partition my external drive, but I can't install snow leopard onto it.
All OS X boot drives  have to be formatted Partition, X amount of Partitions (usually 1) click the box and Option: GUID and then OS X extended journaled on the partition OS X is being installed into.
The other partitions can be formatted differently, but OS X can only be installed into OS X Extended J formatted partitions and only on a GUID formatted drive.
Formatting a drive will remove all data on it, formatting a partition will remove all data just on it and not other partitions, backup all the data regardless in case of error.
Once you have formatted  you can quit Disk Utility and then there will be a selection of boot volumes OS X can be installed into.
You do all this while c or option/alt key held at boot time to boot off the 10.6 installer disk or bootable 10.6 USB key.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
You are doing this to direct boot the machine (if it's capable of 10.6) into Snow Leopard, you do this by holding the option/alt key down at boot time for Startup Manager.
If your machine came with 10.7 or 10.8, it can't boot off the 10.6 install disks.
Nor can you boot the gray machine disks on another model of Mac as it has specific hardware drivers for that model only.
I have a UT here about installing Snow Leopard onto a partition on a Mac that was upgraded to 10.7 or 10.8 from 10.6.
Snow Leopard partition on 10.7+ Mac
There is a option to running OS X 10.6 Server on a virtual machine software called Parallels here, the performance isn't going to be as good as a direct boot,  but acceptable on just about everything but a intense 3D games.

  • The messages app in Mountain Lion keeps going offline

Hi, I am using ML on a 2010 MBP (13inch).
The message app has been configured with my Yahoo, Google Talk and iMessages accounts. The problem is that it keeps going offline. Oddly though, even when offline, I can get iMessages sent to me and it comes back online, however, my Gtalk and Yahoo friends don't see me when it auto goes offline. I tried enabling/disabling SSL in gtalk settings - did not help. I am sure its not my internet  connection - I am now parallely using adium (after it kept going offline) and adium is always on for Google and Yahoo but the messages app keeps showing offline automatically (including message bar indication)

    HI,
The other post I read seemed to indicate that the app "Closed" in the background when you were doing something in the foreground.
Crashed = the system tells you an App Unexpectedly Quit or there is a Crash log.
Crash Logs can be seen in Console then ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter
    Uploaded with Skitch!
You can of course navigate to your Home Folder/Library/Logs/CrashReporter and find the last Crash if there is one and it will launch Console when you try to open it.
At present I have not tried closing all the Messages windows and then letting the computer get to Sleep.
What do you have set in this spot ?
    Uploaded with Skitch!
I am wondering if this is a normal function of the App so that anyone who has access to your computer can't instantly access your Messages  partly as iMessages show so much "history" when a chat is reopened.

Sorry this is for another problem of MAMP not starting. I misunderstood your original query. Added another reply
Are your MAMP sites running on port 80? I had the same problem. Turns out it is due to default Apache running on port 80.

    HI,
If you have any sort of Back up such as a Time Machine one you could "restore" it to the Applications folder if you know which date it last worked.
Other than that it is the Mountain Lion Restore process (Restart the Computer holding CMD and R)

  • How to enable logging for mail.app in Mountain Lion

I am at my wits end trying to figure this out....
Does anyone have a clue how to enable the logging for mail.app under Mountain Lion?
In the past, you could open up Console and click on Console.log and see the logging of mail. Under mountain Lion, there is no more console.log. I cannot figure out how to enable it.
I have tried to run the AppleScript of "Turn On Logging" but the script errors out under Mountain Lion.
Does anyone know how to do this or a better way, maybe a tool or something that can help you troubleshoot mail.app issues?
    Thanks in advanced

    Hello,
I have a similar problem. The script "Turn on Logging.scpt" runs without error, but I do not see any socket logging. I only get two messages, which I also get when I start mail without the script by just clicking the mail.app icon in the dock. The Messages are:
    1/10/13 3:43:32.618 PM Mail[11276]: Using V2 Layout
1/10/13 3:43:36.388 PM Mail[11276]: *** -[IADomainCache init]: IA domains cache is out of date.
    Any help would be appreciated

  • Notes.app in Mountain Lion leaves multiple messages on Google Gmail account!?

Hello, I've set up the Notes app in Mountain Lion (10.8.2) to sync with Google Gmail Notes and I've come across something rather peculiar.  I typed a Note into the Note app, it created a message in the Gmail account with the label "Notes" like I read it was supposed to do.  (I'm still baffled why they designed the Notes sync this way but that is besides the point.)  Then I proceed to update the note in the app and it updated the note in Gmail.  I though, "sweet, it's working," so I began typing away.  After imputing a bunch of notes into the Notes app, I went over to Gmail and clicked on "All Mail" and to my surprise there were HUNDREDS of partial messages left behind by the Notes app!  Apparently everytime a note is updated and the Notes app syncs with Gmail (which is every few seconds), it creates a new message.
I know that a work-around solution is to just use iCloud, but I haven't found an easy way to sync up iCloud Notes with an Android.  I know, I know, I should just get an iPhone and call it a day, but for those that use Gmail Notes, has anyone found a solution?  It's so annoying!!
(I wonder if Apple did this on purpose so users will switch to the much easier iCloud and iPhone.  Hmmmm.)

    Good day all,
I had the similar issue. I did the following to recover my notes before the upgrade:
You need to locate the StickiesDatabase under your Library folder.
Once you have a copy of your StickiesDatabase under
    /Users/<insert_your_home_directory>/Library/StickiesDatabase
    Export stickies created by Stickies.app
Install National Velocity (NV) - http://notational.net/ and start the application
In Finder open your Library folder and locate StickiesDatabase
Drag StickiesDatabase into the list of notes in NV main window
After you are able to see your notes in NV, it is up to you how to transfer them to Apple Notes. You could export as HTML/RTF etc or copy paste manually...  I have decided to use NV from now on.
The instructions above is from the following page:

I accidentally deleted the Reminders only on mac section in the reminders.app on mountain lion. How do I get it back?
I checked @ http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/features.html#reminders and it says under Multi Accounts: "Reminders works with CalDAV services like Google Calendar and Yahoo! Calendar. You can also create reminders that appear only on your Mac."

Quit Safai (double tap the home button, hold the app icon until it wiggles, tap , double tap the home button gain)
Settings > iCloud > Turn off Safari > Delete from phone then turn Safari back on

How do you know they won't run in Yosemite? You're not trying to fiddle with stuff in your backup from the Finder, are you? If so you are likely to render that backup unusable.
WHen when you restore them from your backup, they should be updateable.

  • How do I download Safari for Mountain Lion?

How do I download Safari for Mountain Lion? It's not in the App Store, it is nowhere on the Apple website . . . OK, so I guess it is supposed to be part of Mountain Lion, but I am running Mountain Lion and whatever version of Safari I ended up with would not even run at all . . .  so I trashed it (or at least what part of it I was allowed to trash) and though reinstalling it would be a good idea . . . but I can't find one to reinstall. The latest version I can find is for Leopard, and of course that won't run.
Not to mention that since getting Mt Lion, iPhoto won't run . . . it produces an error message saying I need to check with the developer to make sure it runs with this version of OS X! So I wonder who the developer of iPhoto is, who produces software that is incompatible with Mt Lion???
And even in submitting this there is no option to tag it for any OS later than 10.7.4!!

Since Safari is crashing, post a crash report...   reinstalling the OS X rarely helps a browser crash issue.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash  information.
Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.
Please include the "binary images" section...

The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion."
Why?  Good question.  I am a strong believer in not upgrading just because something new comes out, especially if you are running older equipment.  I would say unless you see a need for it, just stick with Snow Leopard until something comes along that absolutely requires Mountain Lion.
