How to reinstall OSX10.9.2 on a late 2013 MacPro

Yesterday I wanted to reformat my hard drive and reinstall OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 to my brand new late 2013 Mac Pro. Upon looking through the forum I didn't find any straight and clear instructions on how to do this so I called AppleCare support and found the process surprisingly quick and easy, and not much different from previous procedures.
Apple told me that the not-so-well-known Internet recovery procedure is not really necessary (unless you have a specific technical reason to do so) and that I should use the following procedure which is easier and quicker.
So in case anyone out there is in the same position as I was last night, here are the simple steps to do a clean install (format your hard drive), and install OS X Mavericks 10.9.2.
You will need an Internet connection only. You do not need to use a USB key or any other disk. For this procedure. If you have other external hard drives attached to your system you don't need to disconnect them, but just make sure you don't accidentally erase them in the disk utility function. Also make sure you don't install the operating system to the wrong drive!
The procedure is as follows:
1. Make the obvious backups of any data you wish to keep to an external drive.
2. Restart your MacBook Pro then immediately press command + R - keep this pressed until you see the OS X utilities menu
3. From the OS X utilities menu, select Disk Utility
4. Inside Disk Utility, select the Erase tab
5. Now select your main hard drive (from the left hand side column of drives) that you wish to erase an format, then specify format (Mac OS Extended Journaled) and disc volume name (I would suggest Macintosh HD) then press the Erase button
6. Once this has completed, Quit Disk Utility
7. You should now be back in the OS X utilities menu (where you started) - Now select Reinstall OS X Mavericks
8. Follow the on-screen prompts as usual
That's it!!
You've now got a squeakyclean hard drive with a brand-new copy of OS X Mavericks!
This procedure was given to me by the AppleCare support team.

Save and store and installer package and make your own full clean reinstaller on any device, partition etc so you don't have to rely on internet and downloading (again) and can install easily on multiple disk drives or Macs for that matter.
How to make your own bootable OS X 10.9 Mavericks USB install drive

"If you use Internet Recovery to reinstall OS X, it installs the version of OS X that originally came with your computer."
And you may not want to do that, and have a full 10.9.x latest build instead.

  • How often can i overwrite a SSD (MBPr late 2013 Haswell)

    Hello,
do here someone know how many times the SSD's from the new Haswell MBPr late 2013 can be overwrite? I mean the 512 GB Model.
Do here someone have more informations about the SSD? I have reed that it comes from Samsung but i dont know witch technologi here works?
Can a sector here overwrite 1000/3000 or 10000 times.....??
    Thank you very much.
    Bye

Are you SURE that you want to replace the hard drive rather than just add an SSD? If so OWC sells 3.5 to 2.5 spacers. EveryMac says this about your model *This model has a Serial ATA (6 Gb/s) connector for a hard drive as well as a proprietary PCIe connector for an SSD. As reported by site sponsor OWC, if the SSD is not installed at the time of purchase, the connector still is present and later professional or self-installation is possible.

  • How to reinstall CS4 into my Mac Pro 13" (2013/2014)?

    Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,
So I bought CS4 Design Premium some time back, my macbook (white non unibody) crashed on me in 2012/13.. sad I KNOW, a long with all my documents so I thought. Went to a computer guy, and he managed to recover all my programs etc, the problem I am currently facing is this...
    specs of my gear:
Mac Retina 13" Pro Mid 2014 (just checked)
    OS X Yosemite
Now when I dragged my programs into THIS NEW LAPTOP, there was no problem, from what it looked like (successful installation), BUT to my dismay a little box popped up and said the following:
To open "Adobe Illustrator CS4" you need to install the legacy SE 6 runtime.
click "more info..." to visit the legacy Java SE 6 Download website.
so clicked "more info.." and this popped up:
Java for OS X 2014-001 includes installation improvements, and supersedes all previous versions of Java for OS X. This package installs the same version of Java 6 included in Java for OS X 2013-005.
Please quit any Java applications before installing this update.
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6133 for more details about this update.
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222 for information about the security content of this update.
Keep your software up to date. If you need Java, download the latest version of Java for OS X directly from Oracle https://www.java.com
I downloaded this... and STILL CS4 doesn't want to function.
wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and likes to be as hipster as me and use the old CS4 more than the current versions due to loss of old file features and editing capabilities
please lend a helping hand and lets bring this little guy back to life on my laptop. <3
    Thank you in advance,
    Chrissie

  • How much does it cost to replace the late 2013 model Retina Macbook Pro battery?

The page on Apple's website isn't very clear: www.apple.com/batteries/replacements.html
I just bought my first Mac computer ever and I'm loving it -- and the battery life is phenomenal. I'm just worried that in a year it'll be half of what it is now which would not be unlike any other non-Mac laptop, but I really like the battery life this Mac gives.
So I'm wondering, at that point, how much would it cost to have the battery replaced? Does AppleCare include a battery replacement? I know that it's not exactly something I want to replace myself, so how much would it cost to have the Apple Store replace it, if not?

Thanks for the response. I'm worried partially about voiding the warranty if I remove it, and iFixIt's teardown of the latest 2013 Retina model suggests that it may be quite difficult to do without breaking other components...
If they wouldn't do it for free, is $129 the price of a battery, or the price of battery and replacement?

  • How do you open the door on a Late 2013 27" iMac to add more RAM ?

I ordered an additional 8GB of RAM before I received my iMac, but now that I have it and ready to add the extra RAM, I can find no mention anywhere of how you go about opening the door on the back of the iMac to access the RAM. Reminds me of the first Systems Analysis lecture I attended which was all about how to write a manual, for example on how to light a cigarette. The first candidate up read out his instructions and they seemed perfect until the instructor told him he hadn't mentioned opening the box of matches.

Installing memory on the new iMacs are a PITA plus a few
The first thing you should do is to unplug the iMac & everything else you have attached to it including the keyboard.
Place the iMac facedown on something soft (couch).
Just below the power cord connection you will see a square box.  It pops open if you have the strength of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
With Arnold's strength, you will need to push the RAM into the slots which is no easy task.  Make sure you hear a CLICK!  The "click" confirms the RAM has been seated correctly.
CLICK CLICK----> iMac (2012/2013) PDF Manual
GOOD LUCK!  You're gonna need it.

  • How Will iMovie Run on New Mac Pro (late 2013)?

Is iMovie v10 ever likely to be upgraded to support the multiple-cores in the new Mac Pro (late 2013) the way Final Cut Pro X does? If not, will a fast iMac run iMovie about as well as the new Mac Pro (late 2013)?

No one here knows what Apples plans are for iMovie?
I think it's fair to say everything will run faster on the new MacPro but I don't think it's a reason by itself to upgrade hardware.
iMovie 10.0.9 runs just fine on my 2010 iMac.

  • How can I tell the MacBook Pro with 13-in retina that I purchase is the late 2013 model from the box?

I'm wondering how I can tell the differences between the late 2013 model and the early 2013 model of MacBook Pro with 13-inch retina from the box?

You can enter the serial number in the appropriate field on a web site such as this and it will tell you what model it is:

  • How to reinstall pre-installed iWorks after hard drive replaced?

iWork was pre-installed on my iMac (July 2010) 3.2 gHz i3 running OS10.6.8. The original hard drive was recalled by Apple and replaced. I backed up all data to Crash Plan prior to the change out. When I tried to open any of the iWorks programs I received the following error message:
I checked my install discs and application install discs, but iWork does not show up there. How can reinstall these programs?

Thanks, mate, but the computer did not come with any iWork DVD. It only had the OS install disc and the Application restore disc, neither of which contain iWork. The error message reads: "Pages cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Pages works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X. Clic Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple."
I sent a report to Apple. This message repeats for Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. My original receipt shows the iWork app was paid for.

  • How to reinstall windows 8 on bootcamp

how to reinstall windows 8 on bootcamp macbook pro, without losing anything on OS (Apple) side

Start Bootcamp Assistant then select the option to remove Windows and return your drive to a single partition. Once Windows is removed start Bootcamp Assistant again and select the option to install Windows. Follow the Bootcamp instructions for installing Windows.
This process will not cause lose of OSx data or applications if done correctly. But as allways, create a good backup of your data because things sometimes go wrong or instructions are not followed causing data lose.

  • My hard drive crashed and I want to reinstall my personal itunes on another computer but I need to deauthorize my the original computer and I don't know how to reinstall.  Can someone help me please?

My hard drive crashed and I restored my computer with my daughter's hard drive (her battery was dead) and I want to install my personal itunes on the new hard drive.  I was unable to deauthorize the original computer and I do not know how to reinstall my personal itunes.  Can someone help me with this?
    Thank you.

Without a backup of your "crashed" HD you will have to download your iTunes purchases again. Make sure your restored computer is running the latest version of iTunes.
Here is the procedure for your reference.
On your restored computer, launch iTunes. Click on iTunes Store on the left
On the right you will see this
"Sign in" using the Apple ID used to purchase your songs, then click on "Purchased" (with the orange blob)
On the summary page that appears select the tab "Not on This Computer" on the right.
On the list that appears, select what you want and then click the "Download" button.
When you want to play your newly downloaded music, you will have to "authorize" it. Don't worry about the lost HD until enough of your computers crash that you reach the limit of 5. Then you can "deauthorize all" and re-authorize as necessary.

Well then when you erased your hard drive, your erased the Recovery partition, also.
Use Internet Recovery to either restore from your Time Machine backup or reinstall the OS if you don't have a TM Backup.
It will install the OS that shipped on that Mac. You can then upgrade via the App Store.

  • How to reinstall a hard drive on a mac pro that was accidentally dragged out of Finder

How to reinstall a hard drive on a mac pro that was accidentally dragged out of Finder?  I have files on this drive that I don't want to loose or corrupt.

If you mean you dragged the hard drive shortcut out of the sidebar of a Finder window, you're quite all right - that's just a shortcut and you haven't lost any files. You can get it back by going to Finder preferences (the Finder menu, then Preferences), click Sidebar, and tick the "hard drives" box fully to show all hard drives.
Post back if you did something different though.
