There is no Classic version of Safari. The earliest version of Safari came out in 2003 and could run on Mac OS X 10.2. In order to run Safari and Mac OS 9 side by side, you need Mac OS X 10.4.11 or earlier installed to have Classic.
Mac OS X 10.3 was the first to include Safari prebundled.
Your 10.4 installer discs include Safari, which you can extract with http://www.charlessoft.com/ Pacifist.

How to make Safari browser always open a new web page in a new Safari browser window which was clicked from a PDF document URL

Hi
I have a web application which would enable users to see a list of PDF document on the web page and when the user select the PDF document, it will be open by a adobe PDF view
Within the content of the PDF document, it will contact URL links to some other portal web pages which we would like these other web pages to be open in a new browser window, but our testing shows that the new web pages may not always open in a new browser window.
Could you help to advise how I can enforce that new web pages that are clicked from the PDF document can always be open in a new Safari browser window ?

In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Go to ''Tools'' > ''Options'' (or ''Firefox'' > ''Options'').
#In the Options window, select the ''Applications'' tab.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right handside you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.

Can I reinstall Safari without having to install the entire Yosemite OS? My Safari suddenly started crashing this morning.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
If you find Apple's instructions too hard to follow, ask for an alternative that doesn't require you to trust a black-box application without knowing what it does.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.

To use Pacifist, the OP will need to download the OSX, anyway, to access the .dmg installer. If that is the case, then the safest and most reliable course of action is to just reinstall the entire system, considering the complexity of Safari and it's integration with so many other parts of the OSX.

You cannot delete built-in app.
Try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout.

I have just completed a software update. Now because of the update my Safari is not responding. I was on the phone earlier with Apple and they told me to reinstall Safari, just as we were going through the steps the phone was disconneted and I can no longer reach them. After any significant update it's important to "repair permissions". If you haven't done so, go to your Finder: Applications>Utilities folder. Open Disk Utility. Next, click on your HD on the left side of the Utility's panel. Then in the First Aid panel, select "repair permissions". When complete, close DU, then restart Safari and see if it cooperates. If it doesn't....
For clarification -
Usually, problems in one user account point to corruption of a Safari file, or an incompatible 3rd party Safari item installed in your User Account. That's why I asked you check those folder locations. If you have something there, it might explain the lack of Safari's responsiveness.
Others experiencing a similar problem have found success reinstalling Safari 3.2.1. You can obtain another copy here.

I have the Yosemite 10.10.2 on a Macbook, late 2011 edition. I was looking for some help to try to get to the bottom of whats slowing Safari down. It a home PC, music, pics, thats about it. Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:
          8.8.8.8
          8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
In Safari, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?
Notes:
1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself. Remember that you must click Apply in order for any changes to take effect.
2. I don't use Google DNS myself, though I have tested it, and I'm not recommending it or any other DNS provider; the server addresses are offered merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist.

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.

When I hit back to return to main page, the browser has to pause to load the entire main page from scratch - you can watch the blue line progress from left to right in the URL window. Very annoyning. If you cheat and start scrolling early, Safari will bite you by pushing you back to the main page top and losing your last place clicked on the main page.
Hmmmm. That was a bug in an earlier build of Safari 3.0.4 and this shouldn't happen. Yes, it will reload the page (so it is always up to date) but not the way you describe, which I also saw with an earlier build.
I would suggest you run the 10.4.11 Combo update again to ensure that your Safari is the latest version, and also send a bug report to Apple (from the Safari menu).

I had been having trouble for a week and couldnt get online at all. Then I updated to snow leopard just before and I can get online with firefox. My safari web browser still isnt working. Each download I use to update states it is too old for snow leopard yet I cant find any close to it on the internet to help me update it so I can use it with the snow leopard.
