How to reinstall Safari on Yosemite?

Can I reinstall Safari without having to install the entire Yosemite OS?  My Safari suddenly started crashing this morning.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
If you find Apple's instructions too hard to follow, ask for an alternative that doesn't require you to trust a black-box application without knowing what it does.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.

    Hi KathleenfromSanford,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that it can be very frustrating when an application is unresponsive, like Safari in your case. I would first suggest Force Quitting Safari. Please use the attached article for information on Force Quitting applications.

  • How to reinstall safari browser in my emac power G4 running classic?

how to fix my start-up not open classic and how to reinstall safari browser?

There is no Classic version of Safari.   The earliest version of Safari came out in 2003 and could run on Mac OS X 10.2.   In order to run Safari and Mac OS 9 side by side, you need Mac OS X 10.4.11 or earlier installed to have Classic.
Mac OS X 10.3 was the first to include Safari prebundled.
Your 10.4 installer discs include Safari, which you can extract with http://www.charlessoft.com/ Pacifist.
Your eMac installer discs include the restore application to reinstall Classic environment:

  • How to reinstall itunes on Yosemite

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro runs Yosemite 10.10.1
My current iTunes version is 12.0.0.140
iTunes installation is by default, I made no particular changes to it.
My App Store application is 2.0 (376.0.5) and tells me there is a iTunes 12.0.1 upgrade available.
When I click on Update in my App Store, the new iTunes version is downloaded and App Store tells me it did the update.
However, App Store comes back telling me exactly the same information, that is there is a new iTunes version available. And if I check the current iTunes version, it is still the old 12.0.0.140 that is running. This problem exists since I installed Yosemite and the latest iTunes version 12.0.1 was available.
So I decided to reinstall iTunes from scratch
    - I saved my directory Music (simply copying the existing Music directory to Music.old).
    - Then I changed the permissions of the iTunes application file to Read & Write to everyone.
    - Then I try to move the application to the WasteBasket and receive the message :
"iTunes cannot be deleted as it is part of Yosemite" (translation from french, so I'm not sure how it does appear in english)
I looked on internet and some people succeed to deinstall iTunes with "MacClean" but I dont have it on my laptop.
So my question is how can I reinstall iTunes on Yosemite ?
Ho to be sure I keep all my music, iPod, iPhone, iPad, ... information while doing reinstalling iTunes ? (I have TimeCapsule running)
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Marc

according to this support page: OS X Mavericks: Reinstall apps that came with your Mac
you should re-download itunes from this page: https://www.apple.com/itunes/
run the installer and itunes should be reinstalled

  • HT5275 how to reinstall safari for lion?

I have deleted safari from lion and wish to reinstall.
Please advise how can i go about reinstalling safari?

An alternative is to install ana application called pacifist which has a free trial
It can allow you to install small portions of the os
To use Pacifist, the OP will need to download the OSX, anyway, to access the .dmg installer. If that is the case, then the safest and most reliable course of action is to just reinstall the entire system, considering the complexity of Safari and it's integration with so many other parts of the OSX.

  • How to reinstall Safari 3.2.1

I have just completed a software update. Now because of the update my Safari is not responding. I was on the phone earlier with Apple and they told me to reinstall Safari, just as we were going through the steps the phone was disconneted and I can no longer reach them. I am going to do it on my own but I need a little help. Anyone have answers?

    Hi
After any significant update it's important to "repair permissions". If you haven't done so, go to your Finder: Applications>Utilities folder. Open Disk Utility. Next, click on your HD on the left side of the Utility's panel. Then in the First Aid panel, select "repair permissions". When complete, close DU, then restart Safari and see if it cooperates. If it doesn't....
    For clarification -
Usually, problems in one user account point to corruption of a Safari file, or an incompatible 3rd party Safari item installed in your User Account. That's why I asked you check those folder locations. If you have something there, it might explain the lack of Safari's responsiveness.
Others experiencing a similar problem have found success reinstalling Safari 3.2.1. You can obtain another copy here.

  • How to reinstall safari on macbook air?, how to reinstall safari on macbook air?

I am having problems with safari 6.05 on my MacBook Air.  The address window is not displaing correctly and it takes unuassly long time for websites to load.
I thaught deleting and reisntalling Safari would be the obvious and easy option.  But from i have discovered it is not that easy at all.
How do i go about reistalling latest version of Safari?
    Thanks in advance.

    Only by reinstalling OS X:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • How to reinstall fonts in Yosemite

Whenever I upgrade mac os, first thing I do is remove all the extra fonts from library and system fonts. Hate seeing tons of fonts I don't need when working in Adobe Creative Suite. If I get overzealous, I add what I need back. Did that in Yosemite. I have a font holding folder on my desktop for each OS and within that I have a file for each location I moved from - usually just the library>fonts and system>fonts. Anyway, after I did that, apple mail started printing some of my emails in some default font. itunes store doesn't display album titles correctly. I added all the fonts back from where I got them from, ran font finagler to clean up cache and rebooted but the fonts aren't displaying correctly. Short of removing Yosemite and reinstalling the entire OS, is there another way to reinstall the fonts only. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Try this tutor video guyz....
install fonts using Font Book, Apple’s font management software included with OSX.

  • How to reinstall Safari for 10.2.8?

I "helped" a family member update an iBook from 10.2.1 to 10.2.8 and somehow have acquired an incompatible version of Safari. Although there is an almost complete Previous System folder, Safari is missing from it. The only version in the new Applications folder is 2.0.4, which when I attempt to launch gives the following error message:
"The application cannot be launched because this system is incompatible."
Beats me what I've done! I would like to have Safari back; am using Firefox, which is ok but I want everything Apple, and feel responsible for messing up (slightly) family member's computer.
I have the original install disks (10.2.1 for the iBook) but do not know how to install a single program like Safari from it. I think I got the incompatible Safari update along with the many updates downloaded to get us from 2.1 to 2.8.
I've searched the Downloads area of the Apple site in vain for what I need - the oldest Safaris there are even more recent than what I have.
    Suggestions most welcome.

    Hi ceedee!
I'm happy that you eventually found the download, but cornelius provided a link to it, in His Reply.
    Safari 1.0.
I have underlined it above, but note the color difference, of cornelius's posted link.
I wish the links in Discussions were more prominently colored!

  • HT1338 how to reinstall safari if safari wont work

I backed up all my wife's data, erased the hard drive and downloaded and reinstalled Mac OSx Lion.....and then, restored my wife's computer.
Everything worked EXCEPT Safari.  Safari won't even open or allow me to get in to clean out files.
I did a software update...it downloaded the files it needed, however, the Safari did NOT update eventhough it shows cuurent vers 5.1.6 .
Here is the weird part, the version on the applications is 5.1.6, but the version on the backup that I used to restore her computer is 6.0.
I already tried to reboot from the recovery disk, performed verify disk, permissions etc....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    HELP HELP HELP

All Applications are supposed to be in the /Applications folder.
You need to delete apps from anywhere else.  And move the "proper" safari app into Applications folder.
Remove it from your Dock (this is just a shortcut pointer).  After you move it to Applications and run it, right click its dock icon and select "keep in dock".
I'm worried you have a deep-rooted file permissions problem.  When you put your wifes data back, did you just drag and drop it?  Because that would be bad, very bad.

  • How to reinstall safari from original disks

Brand new Macbook Pro, 2 wks old; Safari won't open links in Mail, and I got one error message instructing me to re-install it from the original system disks. But, under "Install bundled apps" on the original disk #1, there is no safari in the package, even under "Customize." The only other option is to install the entire system + apps all over again.
I'm celebrating 20 yrs of mac use this year but am new to leopard and being cautious.
    Thanks for assistance.

    Cynthia,
    Have a look here.
If this is a new machine, and you are having problems that might indicate "broken" software, you probably have a disk error. This is quite common with new computers (Mac or otherwise), and the reason why many prefer too format (erase) a new computer's hard drive right away, then reinstall the system software themselves.
Even though it will take much longer, and you can use the link I have given to install just Safari, I am going to recommend you erase that hard drive and start over.

  • Reinstalling Safari in Mountain Lion

I can't find how to reinstall Safari for Mountain Lion. The App Store is confusing as all get-out and I can't find any download link on the Safari page, just a bunch of blurbs telling me how great it is. Apparently the version I have has developed dementia and I would like to reinstall it. Can someone give me a clue about how to do this? Thanks. :-)

It's best to describe the problem, rather than your conclusion as to how it should be solved. Reinstalling is almost certainly not the solution.
