Best to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are properly preinstalled. Windows is preactivated.
If you failed to burn recovery discs, you can obtain them from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here.
For instructions, see the section Restoring from recovery DVDs/media, which begins on p. 70 of the User's Guide.

  • How can I reformat my Mac OS partition without deleting my bootcamp Windows?

Hi all, I recently feel that my mac OSX - Snow leopard I pressume, version 10.6.8 is running a tad slower than it previous does. Hence I'm thinking about reformatting it. However, as I have booted Windows in a separate partition, I've no clue on how to do a clean reformat without removing windows. I believe it should be pretty simple but I'm clueless about such IT tech matters so I appreciate any help and advice that comes along!

You don't need to do anything special but should make a backup first.

  • Windows can see iTunes Library, Mac can not see Windows library

    All,
I'm having a bit of a dilemma here.. I think the following issues are sourced by the same root cause.
First i can't not get my iphone remote.app to be recoginized by my Mac OSx desktop, it works fine with my windows desktop(they are plugged into the same router and settings look good here so I'm discounting the router as the cause). Yes I have made sure to give access to itunes in the Firewall settings
Second, My windows machine can see my Mac's shared itunes library, yet my Mac machine can see my window's shared itunes library.
Any suggestions will be appreciated!and thankyou!

I had this problem recently, and it was because I had both the XP firewall enabled and the firewall included in my F-Secure client. Check your Windows machine to make sure you don't have such a firewall conflict.

  • How can I get rid of windows 8.1 in my new lenovo and get windows 7 put in?

How can I get rid of Windows 8.1 on my new Lenovo laptop and install Windows 7?

    Hi,
I'll assume your laptop was upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1
    1. Start by copying all your personal folders (Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, Favourites, local databases,
hosts files, etc) into an external disk, DVD, tape, whatever.
    2. If I were you, I wouldn't use Windows 8.1 backup tool, I'm not sure Windows 7 Restore applet will be able
to read a Windows 8.1 backup.
    3. Check that you have all the necessary licenses, CDs and executables to reinstall your former Windows 7
applications, components, browsers, plugins, Java, .NET Frameworks, etc. Be aware that some applications require
to keep same hostname and/or same IP and/or or same local username (or all of them) as they were on the original
    Windows 7 machine.
    4. Check that you have your Windows 7 CD and license handy.
    5. Do you have a Windows 7 image backup of your laptop (prior to the Windows 8 upgrade)?
5.a Yes? Then restore that image and restore your personal folders on top. You might need to
install or reinstall some of the applications I mentioned on #3
5.b No? You'll have to format your laptop, install Windows 7 from scratch, create your local
user with administrative rights, install SP1, install necessary updates, reinstall all your
applications and finally restore your personal folders.

  • Bootcamp Mounts Window's System Reserved Partition

Bootcamp has decided to mount Window's System Reserved partition instead of the actual Windows partition. It was working fine up until this week when I decided to plug in an external hard drive. After I plugged it in and restarted into OS X, the problem started. The real Windows partition does not appear in Disk Utility. I have tried disabling NTFS-3G and booting without the external hard drive but nothing seems to work. Anyone have any ideas?

What do you call Boot Camp anyway?
The 100MB partition is where Windows boots, if present.
And Disk Utility can mess up Windows 7 and NTFS volumes.
Maybe all the problems are from using NTFS-3G of course.
A number of people, myself incl. do not see Windows in the Apple System Prefs control panel (startup disk).
Windows and Mac OS X do show in Windows 7 control panel Boot Camp.
People misuse the name/term "Boot Camp" (as does Apple) as if it was or does things it does not.

  • To Windows or not to Windows

Am student using windows AutoCAD at school.  Bought Mac Pro and want to run bootcamp for Win partition, but have not purchased Windows yet.  Two questions: Win 7 or Win 8 for running AutoCAD? Full version or do I need an OEM version.  Or do I abandon Windows and just download CAD for Mac?

    youngmacdonald wrote:
OEM = original equipment manufacturer and should only be since you didnt manufacture your machine you should pay for the full version. Or am I wrong?
    You are wrong.
OEM could have two definitions. One, the branded computer manufacturers like Dell, HP, etc. These OEMs are created for specific hardware and will only work on that hardware. These branded OEMs are pre-installed by the manufacturera.
OEM also refers to full System Builder versions of Windows. These are available from retailers for people who buy computers/hardware that do not include preinstalled Windows operating systems. These can be installed by anyone on any compatable computer that does not already have an operating system installed. These are not branded. Since your Bootcamped computer does not have a Windows operating system already installed, you can use this OEM version.

  • How to Reinstall Windows on Existing Bootcamp Partition

I've been running Windows 7 under Bootcamp on my 2011 MacBookPro. I've run into a situation where Windows7 will no longer install updates. I worked one day with Microsoft for over an hour but they could not find what was causing the problem. FYI, when looking into this problem, the error code that is produced is Error Code 8007010B. I have found nothing substantial online in regards to this code.
I've used Winclone (a Mac application) in the past without issues to restore a Boot Camp Windows partition. Since purchasing Winclone 3.4 I've made several backups, but now that I am actually trying to restore one of those backups I'm getting a message:
"the image you are attempting to restore does not contain the correct information".
So I am frustrated and have emailed twocanoes.com, the Winclone publisher and waiting for their answer.
    Working with Bootcamp
I'm trying to figure out the steps I need to reinstall Windows from scratch in an existing bootcamp partition. Do I need to start from scratch with Bootcamp, or can I reinstall Windows from inside Windows? If I do the latter, how do I prompt Bootcamp to reinstall the Apple drivers?
    Other Issues FYI
I'm having trouble locating the Windows 7 instal DVD I originally purchased. I do have the serial number. So I've downloaded a copy of Windows 7 from the  MyDigitalLife Windows7 Repository.
I have burned the iso image to a DVD. I've got 2 versions, one is the .iso file burned onto the DVD, the other are the contents of the .iso file burned to DVD. I assume to install Windows, it will want the one with the contents of the Windows installer burned to it? Any other issues I may be unaware of regarding this kind of Windows install?
Is there any advantage of reinstalling Windows from a USB Flash drive as compared to a DVD? Just curious.
Finally, for Activation, because this copy of Windows is going back into the same Bootcamp partition on the same hardware, will I have to reactivate Windows? If so, suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks!
    -Dave

I appreciate the help. Can you tell me what are the steps to tell Bootcamp to install drivers into a Windows install? Thanks!
Update: I looked at the Bootcamp Assistant instructions and now I understand your answer. Info here:
"Step 4: Install the Windows support software
After installing Windows, install Mac drivers and other support software for Windows. The
support software installs Boot Camp drivers to support your Mac hardware, including AirPort
devices, the built-in camera, the Apple Remote, the trackpad on a portable Mac, and the function
keys on an Apple keyboard. The software also installs the Boot Camp control panel for Windows
and the Apple Boot Camp system tray item.
You can download the support software by selecting the “Download the latest Windows support
software from Apple” option in Boot Camp Assistant. The support software must be copied to a USB flash drive formatted in MS_DOS FAT. If the installer does not start automatically, doubleclick the setup.exe file in the Bootcamp folder."
If you or anyone have any other tips, they would be appreciated. As this appears to happen with Windows quite frequently, and I've had to do it multiple times over the years, I'm not looking forward to it.

  • How to reinstall windows 8 on bootcamp

how to reinstall windows 8 on bootcamp macbook pro, without losing anything on OS (Apple) side

Start Bootcamp Assistant then select the option to remove Windows and return your drive to a single partition. Once Windows is removed start Bootcamp Assistant again and select the option to install Windows. Follow the Bootcamp instructions for installing Windows.
This process will not cause lose of OSx data or applications if done correctly. But as allways, create a good backup of your data because things sometimes go wrong or instructions are not followed causing data lose.

  • How to reinstall Windows 8 on Yoga 13 with damaged Recovery Image?

I changed the partitions on my Yoga 13. Now it is not possible to refresh, reinstall or perform an advance start-up, as it looks like there is no recovery image anymore. The systems is currently very messy and needs a reinstall.
Can someone tell me how to reinstall Windows 8 on the Yoga 13 when the recovery image is lost or damaged?

    hi Chevex,
Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!
In the event that the Recovery partition is not working the only option is to use the Recovery CD that you can create when you first got the computer.
but if you were not able to create a Recovery CD and the Onekey Recovery is not working.
You can get the Recovery CD from the Software Department (Fees may apply to the discs)
you can contact the Hardware Team again and ask to be transferred to Software team for purchasing RCD

If you use Windows program to partition the Hard Drive, the Apple partition gets destroyed.
Windows does not understand it is a guest on your Mac, and throws garabge wherever it pleases.

  • How to completely remove Macintosh partition and assign it to Windows partition?

I've been a mac user for over 4 years now. I own a Macbook Pro (early 2008 model). I had leopard running until a month ago when I decided to upgrade to meet with the system spec demands of many applications. I first installed Snow Leopard. Snow leopard used to auto log me out. (This is  a known bug. Check google). Then I figured I must install Lion. But Lion freezes at login screen a million times. And next I upgraded to Mountain Lion. It does not boot up at all!
So, I have Windows 7 on my bootcamp partition but now I want to ONLY have windows on my macbook and remove mac os completely. How can I do that without reformatting/reinstalling anything?
    Thank you.

You can do that but it is not suggested. Why because Apple writes drivers, or supplies driver, that you really can't get elsewhere and sets up the system to work better with Windows then installing Windows all by itself
The thing to do is install OS X Clean, whatever flavor you like but the newer versions of OS X is recommended, and Nothing But the OS. No other program from Apple or any other Mac software writer. Then use Boot Camp to assign all remaining HDD space to a Boot Camp partition, leaving 10-20GBs over what OS X is using. Then install Windows.
Then all you have to do is NEVER boot back into OS X.
The only problem with that is the way Apple sets up the Windows partition system. Once setup you really can't fool with the BC partition, like splitting it into 2 partitions, as that may cause Windows to fail.
Or you could just retire your old and aging Mac and buy a brand new Windows notebook. Faster, more HDD space, more memory and included a new warranty.
    Just sayin.

  • Satellite 2450: How to reinstall WXP on existing partition from recovery disc?

    Hello:
This question has been asked before, but the answer is as follows:
On this forum you can use Advanced search option to find some solutions if someone wrote about it before.
    Anyway check this please
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2513&tstart=125
I checked this and it gives an answer how to create a partition but not how to reinstall xp in the c drive from the recovery disk.
There is the choice to go to expert, but once there I have no idea what to do. Lots of potential settings, but nothing to say how to reinstall xp without wiping out all the other drives.
    Thanks for any help

    Hello tw
Like I said in my explanation If you want to install OS on a partition please use Expert mode. In this case the software can be installed onto an existing partition. You can also make one by yourself.
If you want to install the OS on existing partition make it on this way:
    1) put Recovery CD or DVD in DVD drive
    2) pres power button and after that press and hold down C button
    3) after short time there is an menu and choose Expert mode pressing number 2
    4) Approve OK pressing ENTER button
    5) Choose LOCAL > PARTITION > FROM IMAGE
    6) Look in: must be selected to CD-ROM drive and In the middle window choose GHO file and press ENTER
    7) The information about drive will be shown > press ENTER again
    8) The local destination drive will be shown > press ENTER again
    9) The next window show both partition if you have two of them. On this place you must chose the destination partition (the first one is under Part 1)
    10) The OS will be installed on marked partition (you can change it using UP and DOWN buttons)
    11) If the partition is selected press ENTER button
    12) The small Information window appear with follow content: Proceed with partition load? Destination partition will be permanently overwritten.
    13) Confirm with OK
I hope that your installation will be successful.
If you have more questions please write again and I hope that we will find an solution.
    Good luck!

  • Reinstall same Thinkpad Windows 7 to smaller partition?

Hi, I'd like to partition my hard drive into OS 1 (Windows 7), OS 2 (Linux of some sort), and Data. I have a new Thinkpad x220, clean (just the factory Windows 7 installation).
My question is, how can I do this and still get the same install of Windows 7 that I currently have? That is, I want to keep the Lenovo tools and drivers -- ideally, I'd reinstall the factory Windows 7 that came with it, but to a smaller partition.  If I try to use Windows' "Shrink Partition" tool, it only lets me shrink to about 150 GB (on a 300 GB HD), even though only 23ish GB are in use. I tried turning off the paging file, but it didn't really help.
Can I use an external (free) tool to shrink the size of my Windows installation?  Or use the Rescue/Recovery feature to reinstall to a small partition on the hard drive? What solution do you suggest? Thanks for any advice and answers!!

    usul, JUPITER23,
I guess after reinstalling you can get the same situation.
JUPITER23 is right - there are the area for storage of shadow copies which can't be moved. Take a look at event 259 in Application events log and find that files.
Nevertheless you can move that files yourself.
Also take a look at useful info in Help for Disk Management Console.

  • How to reinstall window 8 on Hp Envy m6 Notebook

we need to reinstall windows 8 on formatted disk how do we do this.
The disk has been removed and formatted. Restore did not work and created a partition that blocked off all our memory access.  Now we can not get it to restart to windows 8

Was the laptop delivered from the factory with Windows 8? If so the Key Code is embedded in the BIOS. All you have to do is download this .iso and make a DVD from it which will work to install an official licensed activated copy of Windows 8:
    https://docs.google.com/a/ericspellmann.com/uc?id=0B0W9PBigPy94aVJWSndyTFNFMzg&export=download
If you need help burning an .iso to a DVD let us know. You can't just copy the .iso file to disk. It is kind of like a .zip file and has to be unpacked and reassembled into a DVD with special software.
