How to relink media in CS6

When I first open a project in PrPro it asks a strange request to relink media.  No files have been moved and all my media is on one hard drive.  I understand how to relink media but this is strange.  It asks "Where is the File "V1-etc, etc, etc?  I've never labeled a clip V1.
Could this be pertaining to the V1 video track?
Could this have happened if I updated PrPro, not thinking, with a Premiere Pro CC update on my CS6 program and this is causing the problem?
I have a timeline in PrPro that was worked on in Resolve.  In the timeline it shows all my clips offline.  But, in my bins, the clip that is shown offline in the timeline is ONLine in my bin.
How can I relink the media to get it to show correctly in the timeline.
I have a suspension this is a result of updating something I should not have updated.
Dan you advise?
Mandla

It seems PrPro created a bin as well.   There's no way I'm creating a bin labeled like this.  The one clip that you see is relinked was from me highlighting all the off line clips, choosing that clip to relink in the hopes that all would come online.  This labeling doesn't make sense.  I did have archived timelines labeled The Broken 527, but other than that nothing more.

  • How to relink media programatically using actionscript or from extendscript?

    Hi,
Can somebody suggest a way to relink the media files in a premiere pro CC project files to another media location programatically?
In CC project files we cannot edit anything right?
So if we need to change the Project File items path what should we do other than manually relinking each file?
    Please Suggest, Thanks you,

Is there no way to get buttons to open up explorer folders specified? It seems people are managing it somehow, but i can't do it. Others aprantly can do it using this code:
         on(release){
          getURL("flash",_black);
, but that's actionscript 2, not 3 which i am using. Surely actionscript 3 can do this and possibly even better seeing as it is a higher version?
I also found another bit of code that was like this:
         fscommand("exec","explorer\dirname");
,but again that didnt work. However, in another way it did because flash reported no errors when it was run, but nothing happened when the button was clicked.
The only other thing i tried was this:
         var request:URLRequest=new URLRequest("C:\\");
        navigateToURL(request);
The problem with that was that it tried to open the internet as expected unfortinatly, not windows explorer to open the folder C:\\.
Directing users to the appropiate locations on the disk wasn't really what i needed thanks for the suggestion though.
    EDIT:
That last idea worked, sorry, but it opened in the default web-browser instead of using explorer, so i'm half way there. Is it possible to tell it what application to use to open the directory, so that way i can specify explorer?

  • Premiere Pro CC relinking media not working correctly OSX 10.8.4

Hi Running the latest build of CC on Mac running 10.8.4 having real issues with relinking media using the media browser. I cant seem to get it to search the directory I choose using the browser at all. As soon as I hit search it starts searching the whole system drive from Applications down. I doesnt matter where I point, even another directoty on the system drive it will go back to searching /Applications first. Also typing a path in the path dialog does not seem to work at all just errors. As a note our media drives are assigned using an NFS mount at / not using Volumes not sure if this is cause?
Anybody got any ideas as to why this does not work. Having watched several videos on the net which all seem to be the Windows version it all works as it should. Having to use the old finder way which results in several passes to find everything.
Any help here appreciated as we have to move projects around a lot and this is an essential feature we really need to work better.
    Simon

Im leaving the below just as it did seem to work until i loaded all my own stuff back in,
so if you can go without all your current prefs, works spaces etc then do the folowing,
if not (like me) then its still broken!
Ive jsut been on to tech support, if you delete the file called
    Adobe Photoshop CC Prefs.psp
    from prefs folder
    it fixes the issue,
so basically a clean install doesnt have the issue, its some kind of hang up with your presets for workspaces or actions of prefs.
    here's how the conversation goes,
Bharati: In Photoshop Window, click on Edit > Presets > Preset Manager
Bharati: Then export the presets before resetting preferences.
I did this and saved to desktop, (i re imported them at the end and the 'fix' still sticks so seems to work.
Bharati: please close Photoshop application and follow the below steps.
    Bharati: Open Finder.
Bharati: Click on Go > Go to folder.
Bharati: Type : ~/Library in the search field.
Bharati: Hit Go, it will navigate to the Library folder.
Bharati: From there, please open the Preferences folder.
Bharati: Just to confirm, are you using Photoshop CS6?
    dan: nope CC
    Bharati: Okay.
Bharati: From the Preferences folder, please open Adobe Photoshop CC settings folder.
Bharati: Then you will see Adobe Photoshop CC Prefs.psp file.
Bharati: Please drag the Adobe Photoshop CC Prefs.psp file to desktop.
    re start Pshop,
    test the problem,
    re-import settings, test again,
    relax..

  • Relinking Media

    Hi all,
I'm sure that this question was asked befor but unfortunatly I don't find the right post here.
I started editing a project on my laptop with mediafiles form a Canon XF. On the laptop, the footage is in a subfolder beside the premiere project file. Now I move to faster desktop computer and put the project file and the footage to two different drives. When I start my project, premiere asking me where the media is, thats obvious. When I remember right, usually I show premiere the path of the first media and the rest ist linked automatically. But now only the one file ist relinked. What can I do that premiere automatically find every asset?
    Thx
    Johannes
    edit
ok, for now I found a solution. I just copied the project file to the media drive so that again the same folder structure is there. then "save as" to the new location. But the question still remains. What if i have to relink media files where I don't know the exact file structure?

jojejo wrote: What can I do that premiere automatically find every asset?
First, watch the video that Fuzzy posted above. (looks like you did already, good)
Relinking was one of our top feature requests at CS6, and earlier. So we re-did it all for this upcoming version. In many cases, if your media has just been moved to a nearby location and all the realtive paths are the same, it will just find it for you and you won't have to relink at all. If you've moved it further away (like to a new system or drive, or to a different root path) you will have to point it to the first file and it will find everything else for you if the relative positions are unchanged or at least close. In the case where a lot of files have been moved to a lot of places, it will just prompt you whenever it gets to a file it can't find, and then continue relinking automatically from there. Also the locate file dialog contains its own media browser instances, so it should be a lot easier to navigate when you do have to hunt for your media.
Relink workflows are like snowflakes, so it won't work perfectly for everyone all the time. And like anything 'automatic', if you know what you're doing, and you expect it to perform in a certain way, you may be better off going manual. For that reason, we've allowed you to toggle off the the 'relink others automatically' and also to bypass the locate file dialog in favor of the OS finder if you prefer.
I'm not just trying to sell you on CS7 (I get no incentive for that). I just want you to know that relink has been a pain point for our users for a long time. It was greatly in need of an overhaul, which it has just gotten. I beleive that it is greatly improved for this next version, and if early reviews/previews are any indictation, our users will agree.

PS @ fuzzy: I'm not sure how clear Al's demo video made this, but the last known file path is now visible as a hard-text column in the Link Media dialog. More importantly, there is a 'Last Path' field in the locate file dialog which is selectable & copy-able (but not editable). And fianlly, there is an editable Path field below 'last path'. So you can now copy/past and/or edit the text to just point it to a different root or modified path or whatever. I just read some posts on that other thread from you that looked like you were wanting to do something like that, so I thought you'd want to know.

  • Media Encoder CS6 doesn't export any of the common formats like .MOV, .AVI, .AIFF .WAV, etc.

When I queue exports from Premiere CS6,  Media Encoder totally ignores any custom export settings, and chooses some completely different system defined default settings, which I did not choose in Premiere. In previous versions Premiere would always pass the encoding settings to the Media Encoder.
Update: When I tried to import the custom settings into Adobe Media Encoder, I got an error message: "Preset could not be imported. No exporter found for this preset." Then I've realized, that AEM doesn't even have a QuickTime export format!!! Actually it offers only 4 export formats: H.264 (MP4), FLV, F4V, and MP3. Then, when I queue an export with Premiere with one of those 4 formats, then AEM would accept it. Anything else - it just wouldn't work!!! So wait - am I missing something, or I literally cannot queue any other common format exports with AEM??? I need to work with MOV, AVI, AIFF, WAV etc. files, which all aren't accepted by the Media Encoder... Or am I missing something???
This is ridiculous. I am becoming quite fed up with Premiere CS6 bundle - in 20 minutes I have found already 4 diferent features, that worked in previous versions, and work no more in CS6
I don't know how it worked in CS5.5 - anybody?

I have found the solution in another thread!!! It's here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4503096
    1. Open this file:
On MAC: /Applications/Adobe Media Encoder CS6/Adobe Media Encoder CS6.app/Contents/Resources/txt/AddExporterList.txt
    On PC: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder CS6\txt\AddExporterList.txt
    2. Back it up to some other location.
    3. Then delete everything from it and paste this:
    # MediaCore Plugins
    # AME Plugins
    AudioWriter
    WinMediaWriter
    # AME Plugin Formats
    MPEG4
    H.264 Blu-ray
    4. Save it, and relaunch Media Encoder - voila! It worked for me and many others.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 and Media Encoder CS6 Color shift on export

    Hello,
I am working on an early 2008 Mac Pro with 2 X 3.2 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon Processors 32 GB of RAM a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB Graphics Card and I am running OS X 10.8.2.
I have the updated Version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and Media Encoder CS6 through the awesome Subscription program that Adobe has started.
My footage is shot with the Canon 1D Mark IV shot 1920X1080 at 24 FPS
I am importing the camera files and then exporting them after I cut them up in to Quicktime Pro Res 422 HQ files
With the technical explination out of the way here is my problem. I have color right from the camera files that I like. and with out doing any thing to change the color I export the footage and get a dramatic color shift. The exported file looks desaturated and slightly green.
I have tried using Media Encoder CS6 to export my footage and that has the same result.
I started my career as a photographic retoucher and use photoshop and light room constantly so I am pretty confident that i know color. I also calibrate my Lacie 526 and Lacie 324i montiors monthly as well as have a sensor that will slightly shift the profile depending on the time of day.
I have attached three screen shots that show the color shift exactly. Now what I need is a solution. What I am not seeing is color settings for Premiere. I am totally open to any suggestions on what I might be doing incorrectly.

I've been doing this for a few years now, and have come to some conclusions. Basically, the difference between still photography and video is like the difference between playing the trumpet and the sax. What you bring to the sax from playing trumpet is your ability to read music, what you know about composition, blending while playint with others, ect. But playing trumpet tells you nothing about how to physically play a sax. So it is with still photography and video.
For starters, your carefully calibrated computer monitor is just that, a computer monitor. It doesn't display the correct working space for video. What you need for WYSIWYG in video is a monitor that can show you the Rec.709 working space. Rec.709 has a different gamut, a different gamma, probably a different white point (D65), different phosphor colors, etc., etc., etc. Enought differences that it's difficult to make a computer monitor that can successfully display Rec.709. Yet there are a couple of computer monitors that can do this (a few Eizos, one HP). The vast majority of people doing serious color correction work in video use a production monitor for just this reason.
But a production monitor isn't enough. You also have to make sure that the signals you're sending the production monitor are correct. There's a sub-industry making signal converters for signals from NLE video cards (usually RGB based) -> signals for production monitors (usually YUV based).
That said, it is certainly possible to get a very good match between your NLE suite and a DVD / BD as displayed on an HDTV. But it's not as simple or easy as a calibrtated computer monitor for still photography use.
This is probably part of your problem. But Quicktime is probably the root of it. Quicktime is, well, I guess the polite way of saying it is that Quicktime is problematic. It gives all kinds of problems. Most people have abandoned it. You should too.

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (6.0.1) update available

The Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (6.0.1) update is available.
It has bug fixes and some new features.
You'll see from the post above that one of the features is left somewhat unexplained for the moment. That's because we wanted to get the bug fixes for Adobe Media Encoder out as soon as possible, rather than hold this update and wait for it to coincide with certain other events. Stay tuned. We'll have more information about that new feature quite soon.

I'm having a problem with Media Encoder 6.0.1 - it will encode for a few minutes, then slow down and sit, and then stop with an error (Error compiling movie.  Unknown error).  This happens with both h.264 and MPEG2, exporting 1080p.  This is with Windows 7, and the Task Manager shows the used memory increase and the CPU usage increase when ME starts, and when it slows down the CPU usage stops and the memory usage goes down.
(When it stops with the error it makes a loud noise, like a goat dying!  Must be the programmers idea of how to notify there is an error!)
This is happening on two different computers running Production Premium CS6 , and is pretty consistent between the two.  I don't know if ME 6.0 had this issue, only had CS6 a few days before the 6.0.1 update and may not have exported a file.  There have been no encoding issues at all with CS5 and CS5.5.
Any ideas what is causing this - something in the setup?  A bug?

  • MPEG-2 codecs missing from Adobe Media Encoder CS6 installed with Creative Cloud Membership

Some people who have downloaded Adobe Media Encoder with Premiere Pro CS6 as part of a Creative Cloud Membership subscription have a problem in which the MPEG2, MPEG2-DVD, MPEG2-Blu-ray, Dolby Digital, & MXF OP1a codecs are missing.
To fix this issue, install the Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (6.0.1) update. Choose Help > Updates to install the update.

It's true. We reached the conclusion that the version CS6 is inferior, a step back,  than 5 or 5.5. What's good about it, is the Audution CS6, which is a great replacement for the flawed Audition CS5 accompanying Suite 5.5. You can almost forget the Soundbooth ... Soundbooth ... hmmm, better not comment, but anyway, the most polite thing that i can say it, is that it is a demonstration of how a company decides that its users are not able to think and not able to learn or understants anything. Anything else that i want to say about Soundbooth can not be written here ....
Adobe has demonstrates this development cicle along all this years. The products takes an uphill curve of development, and suddenly, goes back, showing wrong decisions was taken. So after some time , the products starts to evolve again . CS6 shows this stop evolving point. Now we have to wait untill new uphill curve of development starts again.
Well, but like their predecessors AA CS6 still not are good enough to dispense Audition 3, but it is a good outcome for the Suite CS5.5 Audition at least was a sign of improvement in this Creative Suite CS6
Many of the features and effects that have been deliberately taken out of version 5, now returned in 6, (some) showing that at Adobe at least recognizes when misses badly. But the optimal effects panel of AA3 did not return, some effects of AA3 as fade in and fade out did not come back in AA 6, the optimum VST support of AA3 to not are present in AA6 like many VST we have here that was expensive, you do not work in 6, thus, by these and other reasons we can still not dispense AA3.
Maybe in CS7 we users cam be satisfied.

  • "Adobe Media Core CS6 has stopped working" error.

I have had Premiere Elements 11, Photoshop Elements and LR 4 installed for over a year on my Windows 7 computer. Over the last couple months, within a few minutes of turning on my computer I get an error that Adobe Media Core CS6 has stopped working. It seems like this might be related to Premiere but I have not been able to find a solution. This occurs even if I have not run any of my installed programs. Any suggestions what is causing this and how to fix it?

I had not saved the detail files earlier today (it appears they disappear on a restart), but did a shutdown/startup a short time ago and had a recurrence again. (Although two subsequent cycles did not generate the error.) I saved the files and the .xml file indicates the parent process was Elements 11 Organizer this time, not LR4.
I had been living with this problem for a while, one of the set of saved error file sets was from 5/1. I don't recall for sure if that was from the first occurrence of the error, but I decided to look for other programs installed just before that time. I see that Adobe Creative Cloud was installed the day before, 4/30. I don't recall how/why that was installed since I don't have any Cloud products. Also installed on 4/30 were three Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable files, which show installation times one minute before the Creative Cloud installation, so I assume they are part of the Cloud installation. The next most recent (before 5/1) installed program was Smith Micro Anime Studio Pro 9.5, which was installed on 4/29.
The firewall settings have not changed. I was in a chat with my ISP when the problem occurred this afternoon, but not during the latest occurrence. I don't recall any updates since 6/24. I believe the error had occurred every time I started my computer before the Firewall changes, but it seems to be more sporadic now.
I will see what else I can come up with tomorrow since it is getting late. I wanted to get this all down before I lost my thoughts.
    Update 7/5:
I have more information, but still no solution.
I found this thread Adobe Media Core CS6 has stopped working related to the same error, but it had no solution. The error did not occur when I exited PS Elements or Premiere Elements as it did for that person.
I also found Adobe media core cs6 stopped working......??? and tried the steps to rebuild the Photoshop Elements editor preferences file, but no success.
I had noticed that Adobe Creative Cloud was installed the day before, so I uninstalled it. Error still occurred.
I installed a different firewall (Zone Alarm Free) and disabled Windows Defender, error still occurs.
Uninstalled Anime Studio Pro (that had been installed a couple days before, error still occurred.
I will provide more updates as I try more changes.
    Update 7/20:
    More things I tried:
Repaired quicktime via control panel, did not fix
Uninstalled quicktime, error did not recur
I noticed that there remained a plug-ins folder in the quicktime folder, so I renamed it.
Reinstalled quicktime from Apple site on 7/12 and the CS6 error has not recurred.
Additional info not directly related to original question, but occurred afterwards.
I don't think it is related, but a few days later started getting a small blank MFC CTxfiHlp window upon windows startup. I haven't resolved that yet, but it is related to my Creative XFi sound card.
I also noted when I reinstalled Anime Studio Pro that the readme contains a warning that 64 bit windows does not support quicktime; that I should use the 32 bit version of their software.
I installed the latest Creative sound card software, but started getting lockups. Still working on this, but the original problem seems to be solved.
The only other thing I can think of is that iTunes software had been installed, but I removed it. It is possible that caused a problem with quicktime??
Anyway, the removal of quicktime (including the Plug Ins) and re-install did resolve my problem.

  • How to relink files in libraries in 10.1

anyone?  I can't get into the library because it is a package.   How do I get in there to get to the clips?

    Heya Dave,
I understand that it's possible that you want to import your media from library 1 into library 2. Perhaps library 1 that has all of your copied media is not opening in FCPX anymore and you want to create a new library with the media. Whatever the reason for wanting to relink media or otherwise access files media files that are already in the library here is the way.
Visit the libraby.fcpbundle file in Finder, right-click the file and choose "Show Package Contents". From the package contents you can locate the original media. Move the media to a location that is outside of the library bundle file to access the files.
    Hope that helps!

Hi, I just downloaded Adobe Premeire. On my computer, it shows up as Adobe Media Encoder CS6. After clicking on it, it says, "Thank you for using Adobe Media Encoder CS6. The Adobe product that installed Media Encoder has not activated. Please Launch and activate the Adobe Product before continuing to use Media Encoder." What does this mean? Also, this is a video editing software trial right? How can I get this to work without having to install it again?
    Thank you.

It means that you need to launch Premiere. AME is just an auxiliary tool that comes with it. If PPro is nowhere to be found, reinstall.
