How to Remotely View a Mac from a Windows XP/7 computer

I would like to know how to, without any cost, view my Mac from a Windows XP/7 computer.
I do have Apple Remote Desktop; however, if I stand correctly, but it can only be used from Mac to Mac. So that would not be of any help. Thank you in advance.

I've used an app called "RealVNC" for windows, you can Google it to find the download. Theres a free version that works just fine.
On the Mac end you have to go into System Preferences > Sharing > Remote Access (not in front of my mac, could be wrong on the "Remote Access" name)
Turn on Remote Access and theres a checkmark in there to allow you to set a password for VNC access.
That should be it.

You can do it manually, but it is much simpler if you use a tool such as Back To My Mac, LogMeIn, or something like that. Those programs enable you to connect to your computer through your router without you having to adjust the router settings manually.

Not all applications will go from Portrait to Landscape. Changing just requires you to turn the device. However, if you have the orientation lock activated, then it will not change to landscape. To check, look in the status bar and see if you can see a small lock shaped icon near the battery icon. If you do, then orientation lock is activated. To turn it off, swipe upwards from the bottom of the iPhone screen to bring up Control Center. The orientation lock is the last icon on the top row to the right. Tap on it to turn it off. I've been trying to find the answer in the user manual, but no luck so far.
I did find how to open 2 projects at once, but I can only see one image at a time in the viewer and I have to keep going back and forth between projects to compare images. (These are scans of old photos and I want to eliminate the ones that are poorer quality, so need to compare numerous images from 2 sets of scans)
How can I view an image from one project at the same time as an image from another? I know that it can be done in the same project by apple-clicking the second, third etc image, but this doesn't work if the images are from different projects.

I've now created an album, independent of the projects, and dragged test images into it and it does just the job I needed. Now i just need to keep my brain sorted with which ones are which while i'm working

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.

Teresa, in what way way the data saved to an external hard drive? Do you have a copy of your iPhoto library on that drive? Or is it a clone of your old system drive ? A Time Machine backup?
And which iPhoto version did you have on your old Mac?
If your external drive holds a copy of your iPhoto library, you can simply connect this drive your new mac and drag the library over. It will depend in the version of your old iPhoto, how you can open the the old library. If it is an iPhoto '09 or '11 library, you can aunch iPhoto with the options key held down and select the library as your new iPhoto library. If the iPhoto version is older, you will have to ru the iPhoto Library Upgrader first.

If you are on iTunes 11 on your PC then you may want to enable the left-hand sidebar via View > Show Sidebar (or control-S), which might make it easier to navigate.
To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes, and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad's Photos app. There is a bit more info on this page.
