How to remove a keyword in Aperture 3

I've been testing Aperture 3 now for a few hours. First impression is that it's great! Faster than Aperture 2 and raw support for LX3.
In the Metadata inspector I miss the keywords-list, which in Aperture 2 used to be at the bottom of the Metadata tab. That place is occupied now by Map. I used the keywords-list to remove keywords from an image. In the Aperture 2 manual I read that removing keywords should be done now by deleting it from the keywords textbox, which is not very easy. But, in my case, it does not work!
Where has the keywords list gone?
How do I remove a keyword from an image?
Greetz, Koen

Piece of cake (Aperture is -- like most programs -- very good at batch processing).
Select all the images which have the wrong keyword. Remove it from all of them (use whatever method you like). All the images are still selected. Add the new keyword (use whatever method you like).
Databases are tremendously powerful at ... manipulating data. In all cases they follow the now-standard "Noun, Verb" syntax: first select what you want to act on, then specify the action.
There are four separate specific sections in the User Manual detailing applying keywords:
http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=10%26se ction=0
And one specific section on removing them:

  • How to remove a keyword from a group of photos

    I want to remove a keyword from a group of photos.  They all have the same keyword attached, of course.  When I right-click keyword and choose 'Remove keyword from selected photos' it removes the keyword from the most-selected photo ONLY, not from all photos that are selected.  I have to remove the keyword from each photo one at a time.
    I'm running LR 5.6 on a Mac.
    Thanks for any assistance.

  • How to remove parent keywords in photos?

    Hi all,
    I have started the laborious task to keywording my photos in Aperture 3, all 35,000+. I recently imported my photos folder into Aperture and will eventually restructure the library hierarchy based on keywords.
    To help give me a kick start on keywording, I purchased the Controlled Vocabulary Keyword Catalog. This has been a big help. I still have had to add my own keywords. But, at least, I didn't have to start from scratch.
    I eventually plan to do detailed keywording as I build out my keyword hierarchy. But for now I may use more general keywords. For example, I may assign the keyword "mammal" to a set of photos. Later on, I may add the keywords elephant, bear, beaver, etc. which are all have the parent keyword of mammal.
    It would be very nice when assigning new keywords to photos for Aperture to be able to remove parent keywords from the updated photos. Is there a way to remove parent keywords from photos in Aperture either built-in or via plug-in or Apple Script?
    PS: Yes, I know that specific keywords can be manually removed for individual photos a a group of selected photos. I am looking for a way to do clean up keywords in batch instead of manually doing this. Trying to save time.
    Thanks!

    Since you have two External Definitions and you are using both in on mapping hence your scenario becomes 1:N mapping scenario and this is the reason you are getting the additional nodes in your mapping.
    so if your requirement is 1:N then whatever you are getting is correct, you can refer the below mentioned blog for help on this, But if you don't want the additonal nodes then you have to create TWO different mappings and used the external definitions seprately in each mapping.

  • How to remove existing keywords during import?

    I have tried to find a way to NOT import existing keywords present in files that are already on my system, when I am importing those files into my library. They mess up my existing keyword structure and I just want to ignore them during import. I tried to enter an empty keyword text area with checkbox ticked in the template I apply during import, but that doesn't do the trick for reasons I don't comprehend. Any clues?

    To tell you the truth, I don't think the Lighroom Import function has the capability of removing keywords.
    Your choices seem to be ...
    Remove keywords after import, in which case you would also have to remove the unwanted keyword from your hierarchy
    Use freeware tools like Geosetter or Exiftool to remove the keywords from your photos before importing

  • How to remove an external editor in Aperture 3

    I've searched but can't find how to remove an external editor in Aperture 3. The external editing software I was using as a trial simply didn't make the cut.

    Are you sure you're talking about an external editor and not a plug-in?
    When you remove the application you're using as the external editor it should no longer show up in the *Photos->Edit with* menu. There is no way, short of editing the Aperture plist file, of having it not show up in the *Preferences->External Photo Editor:* field.

  • How can I remove one keyword, or replace?

    I have added one particular keyword to a group (000's) of images (each of those photos have multiple keywords associated with them), and it turns out I need to delete that one keyword. I use the same keyword correctly in lots of other images.
    I am sure there is a very easy way to do this I am overlooking...if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.
    Also, is there a quick way to take a group of images that have the same keyword and replace that keyword with a different one (ie replace 'Surgeon' with 'Doctor' for a large group of selected images, but leave 'Doctor' as a keyword for another group of images in the library)?
    Thanks!

    If you delete or rename a keyword then it affects the whole library, so that will not solve your problem.
    If you have a way of selecting all of the images with the wrong keyword (or all the images with the keyword correctly applied) then there is a way.
    Create a keyword set called Mistake and add the keyword to that set. Display that keyword set at the bottom of the screen. Now select all of the images that have that wrong keyword and Shift click the button with that keyword at the bottom of the screen. That will remove the keyword from those images.

  • Applescript - Removing/adding keywords

    I'm trying to figure out how to add and remove hierarchical keywords from images using Applescript ... but I can't even figure out how to get the existing keywords. I started to play with this simple script (just to see what happens) and everything works ... except the last line. Does anyone have any examples on how to add/delete keywords?
    tell application "Aperture"
    set curSelection to selection
    set curItem to item 1 of curSelection
    set kwlist to keywords of curItem
    set kw to item 1 of kwlist
    get name of kw
    end tell

    We just started using Bridge and I am on OS 10.9.5 and using Creative Cloud and we are running into the same situation. I load the images into the Bridge and have no issue with Photoshop files, but the Illustrator .eps files get corrupt when I add in keywords to Bridge for them. Haven't been able to find a solution to fix this so currently I'm just not adding in keywords which makes it difficult for our designers to search for these files to use on their projects.

  • IPhone - how to sync with iPhoto and Aperture at the same time ???

    I'm having a really hard time with syncing my photos - I'm using iPhoto and Aperture on my Mac. When I launch iTunes and start managing my iPhone, it seems like I should be able to sync photos from a variety of sources all at once (iPhoto, Aperture, other folders).
    However, whichever option I select in the photos drop-down becomes the only libraries that are available to sync. What I mean is that if I select some of the Albums in my iPhoto list and sync those, when I later drill down to Aperture and select albums from there and perform a sync - then the previously synced/loaded albums and photos from iPhoto are automatically removed from the iPhone.
    Why can't I sync between multiple photo albums / sources at the same time? This is incredibly annoying.

    Here's how I solved this problem:
    In Aperture, select File -> Import -> iPhoto Library
    Then under the "Store Files" dropdown, be sure "In their Original Location" is select. This will allow Aperture to see your iPhoto library, but it will be managed by reference rather than phyisically imported.
    Now, in iTunes, select Aperture as the application from which you want to synch photos, and select the option to synch specific albums.
    You should be able to see the names of albums in iPhoto as well as those created in Aperture.

  • How can I delete keyword suggestions?

    I'm just starting up with FCPX and am adding lots of keywords to clips. However it is annoyingly remembering mistyped keywords even if I have deleted them (they don't appear in the event viewer). For instance, when typing the keyword "detail" it sometimes wants to break it up into two keywords "de" and "tail". How can I remove types from keyword suggestions? In the image below I would want it to stop suggesting "da" and "de".
    I am not asking how to delete the keywords from the shortcuts in the keyword editor or from the events viewer.

    Hello jcmcnamee,
    What you are experiencing is the automatic spell checker in OS X. To set an option to correct spelling automatically in all apps that support it, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Keyboard, then click Text.

  • Migrating iPhoto keywords to Aperture Keywords

    There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding iPhoto keywords in Aperture. Aperture seems to treat keywords imported from iPhoto differently to keywords assigned in Aperture. Does anyone know a way to get the iPhoto keywords to display in the Keyword HUD? I think once we've achieved that we could successfully migrate our keywords into Aperture, arrange them in hierarchies etc.
    Would be good. Ideas?

    You can add them manually to the Keyword HUD. Make a top-level keyword called "iPhoto" and put all the iPhoto keywords under it. You can then remove them and add them using the keyword buttons.

  • Can't add or remove a keyword from MULTIPLE images

    Hi:
    I've tried the trick of using SHIFT-RETURN (instead of RETURN) to REMOVE a keyword instead of adding it, after you type in the keyword in the Add Keyword box of the Keyword Controls window.
    However that only removes the keyword from the current active image:
    even if I have multiple images selected, only the current "active" image gets updated.
    (Using aperture 2.1.1 on mac os x 10.5.4.)
    Any pointers on what the problem might be?
    (UPDATE: same problem exists in reverse: trying to ADD keyword to multiple images using one of the keyword buttons, but only currently active image is updated, the other images in my selection are NOT updated with the new keyword.)

  • How to remove RAW 2.3

    Does anyone know how to remove RAW 2.3? This update clearly breaks auto-orientation of Nikon NEF files.
    How do I uninstall RAW 2.3 and return to a previous version?

    Just go to Mac HD>System>Library>CoreServices and delete RawCamera.bundle
    Good answer! This removes RC 2.3. Thanks.
    RC 2.2 worked OK for you? >http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/digitalcamerarawcompatibilityupdate22.htm l
    Removing RC 2.3 and reinstalling RC 2.2 fixes the problem with NEF orientation being ignored for portrait images in Aperture.

  • Searching for parent keywords only, Aperture 3

    Hello everyone,
    I want to search for images that have top-level keywords only, but not the child keywords. For example, if I have a 'birds' keyword with child keywords in it...
    Birds
    -Bald Eagle
    -Heron
    --Green Heron
    --Blue Heron
    -Pheasant
    ...if I keyword search for 'Birds', it brings up everything else in that birds category.
    Normally this would be fine, but sometimes I don't know the name of birds in my photos, so I just assign them the generic keyword 'birds'. Occasionally, I would like to be able to go back to my 'birds' keyword, and find only those images that haven't been tagged with a deeper-level keyword.
    Is this possible to do? I can't seem to find a way to do it. I appreciate any help.
    -Jeff

    I'm pretty sure Apple has actually improved the handling of parent keywords and the keyword hierarchy since 3.0 came out. It used to not really work at all.
    Now it works as described in this thread. (Search on the parent keyword, and Aperture will find all images tagged with any of the children keywords.) This is, imho, very useful, and requires (I think) only one small user restriction to give Aperture the behavior most seem to expect from a nested (i.e.: hierarchical) keyword structure.
    The "user restriction" is to give a special marker to parent keywords (to identify them as containers of keywords, separate from keywords), and to use these container keywords only as containers (that is, do not apply them to images).
    I prefix all top-level containers with "aa.". This is arbitrary, but it has some reasons to recommend it:
    . it forces the containers to the top of the keyword hierarchy
    . it stands out without making the name harder to read at a glance
    . the period allows one to double-click either the prefix or the suffix to select it in isolation
    . it allows straightforward modification for hierarchy depth (see below).
    In practice (using the example in this thread), the keyword hierarchy might be (as a starting point):
    aa.Animals {top-level category}
    bb.Birds {second-level category}
    cc.Hawks {third-level category}
    HawkUnspecified {child in third-level category}
    HawkRedShouldered {child in third-level category}
    HawkSharpshinned {child in third-level category}
    {Etc.}
    This immediately (afaict) solves several related usage problems. All hawk images show up when images are filtered for "Animals" or "Birds". One can easily search for "all hawks" or a specific hawk. One can easily tag hawks to be specified later, and easily recall those images. All the "Hawk" tags are gathered together alphabetically (as well as hierarchically) -- makes creating filters much easier. The Keyword HUD is much more useful as a reporting tool. (There is an added complexity: the keyword "HawkUnspecified" must be manually removed after the hawk is specified (a good use of a complex Smart Album).)
    Additionally, this system allows for (IME) much easier maintenance of the Keyword list (renaming and moving).
    #1 Keyword hint: use "{Option}+click" in the Filter HUD Keyword Rule to limit the selection to the clicked Keyword. Any time you filter on Keyword and don't get the result you expect, this is the first thing to check.
    For me, Keyword use in Aperture is still very much a work in progress. Suggestions and comments are welcome.

  • How to remove image overlay when emailing a photo?

    When I try and email a photo directly from aperture, the selected photo has another photo embedded in it. The same photos is alway overlayed in the lower right hand corner. It seems like some setting got activated but I can't figure out how to remove it. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you

    It sounds as though you have a watermark assigned to the Export Preset you have in turn assigned to be used when you email an Image.
    The Export Preset is selected at "Aperture➞Preferences➞Export".  Export Presets can be customized via "Aperture➞Presets➞Export".  Either select a Preset that does not have a watermark, or remove the watermark from the selected Preset.
