    Your question presupposes a conclusion that will only mislead you and others into pursuing solutions that are likely to exacerbate whatever problem exists.
    Please describe the problem you are experiencing, and the equipment being affected by the problem. Your question was posted in the Power Mac Discussions area while your equipment profile indicates a Mac Pro, and a version of iOS inapplicable to either of them. All that information conflicts with itself, so please resolve those discrepancies.
    Thanks!

  • How to remove Adware that is driving me crazy?

    I downloaded a movie player and ended up with some Adware that is driving me crazy!  It opens a new tab with a random advertisement whenever I click on a 'submit' button or some other link.  It's been happening on sites that did not normally exhibit this behavior in the past.  The ads range from Mackeeper pro 2.0 to Sexy Latina girls.  Any ideas on what could be causing this and how to remove it?  I'm using Safari 8.0 with Yosemite.

    Yes, you have accidentally installed some sort of adware. The fastest, most effective way to identify and optionally remove all currently known adware is by using AdwareMedic, developed by thomas_r. this Forum's malware guru, owner of TheSafeMac and a colleague of mine.
    If it turns out to be the Downlite adware, then they have managed to block your access to that site and you will need to use an alternate technique as described in About the Downlite adware.
    To understand why this happened an how to avoid such things in the future read John Galt's How to install adware.

  • How to remove Adware?

    Recently i've downloaded something and now I have all this adware on safari. Pop up ads and Certain words are highlited that when clicked go to ads for surveys and stuff etc. I've tried everything but i cant get rid of the highlighted text. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin; clear; Fb='%s\n\t(%s)\n'; Fm='\n%s\n\n%s\n'; Fr='\nRAM details\n%s\n'; Fs='\n%s: %s\n'; Fu='user %s%%, system %s%%'; AC="com.autodesk.AutoCAD  com.google.GoogleDrive"; H='^[[:space:]]*((127\.0\.0\.1|::1|fe80::1%lo0)[[:space:]]+local|(255\.){3}255[[:space:]]*broadcast)host[[:space:]]*$'; NS=networksetup; PB="/usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c Print"; A () { [[ a -eq 0 ]]; }; M () { find -L "$d" -type f | while read f; do file -b "$f" | egrep -lq XML\|exec && echo $f; done; }; AT () { o=`file -b "$1" | egrep -v '^(A.{16}t$|cann)'`; Ps "${1##*/} format"; }; Pc () { o=`grep -v '^ *#' "$2"`; l=`wc -l <<< "$o"`; [[ l -gt 25 ]] && o=`head -n25 <<< "$o"`$'\n'"[$((l-25)) more line(s)]"; Pm "$1"; AT "$1"; }; Pm () { [[ "$o" ]] && o=`sed -E '/^ *$/d; s/^ */   /; s/[-0-9A-Fa-f]{22,}/UUID/g' <<< "$o"` && printf "$Fm" "$1" "$o"; }; Pp () { o=`$PB "$2" | awk -F'= ' \/$3'/{print $2}'`; Pm "$1"; }; Ps () { o=`echo $o`; [[ !     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
    to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • How to remove adware (mystartsearch)

    Hello, I have tried several steps to remove this adware manually, but it still shows up as my start page.
    - I was not able to disable it from the add-ons (it wasn't there),
    - I was not able to uninstall it from the Windows Control Panel (it wasn't there),
    - I ran regedit.exe and manually deleted every single line that read "mystartsearch",
    - I refreshed Firefox and manually set the start page to the default.
    No good. It's still there. I also tried opening Internet Explorer and that's been infected too.
    What else can I do? Any advice would be really appreciated.

    Does this appear when you launch a new window (Ctrl+n) in place of your home page, or only when you use the Firefox shortcut on your desktop or taskbar?
    Some malware will modify your browser shortcuts. To check for that:
    right-click the Firefox shortcut > Properties > Shortcut tab
    For 64-bit Windows, the "Target" should be no more and no less than the following:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
    If anything follows that, make sure to remove it.
    It would be the same idea for IE (but I'm not familiar with IE on Windows 8.1)

    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
    If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide and AdwareMedic.
    Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
    The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
    Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
    Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
    Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
    If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
    This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.
    An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.

    If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.)
    From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect everything targeting the Mac.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
         the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
         techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
        your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
        from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
        you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • Fedlet: How to remove SPNameQualifier attribute from Authnrequest message

    Hi all,
    Hopefully someone on this forum is able to give me some hints how to proceed.
    I'm trying to understand how SAML2 works, and how (if I get it working with sample application) I can integrate it with our existing application.
    SP: Fedlet (Running on Weblogic 10.3)
    IDP: Shibboleth (Running on Weblogic 10.3)
    Both are running on the same server, but in different domains (and obviously with different ports).
    Fedlet is installed, and has the IDP meta data file loaded. When I go to the fedletsample application, I get the 3 hyperlinks (Of which "Run Identity Provider initiated Single Sign-On" is a broken link). Clicking on the "Run Fedlet (SP) initiated Single Sign-On using HTTP POST binding" brings me to the IDP login page.
    My IDP is using the embedded LDAP server from Weblogic. I enter the UID and Password, and (if details are entered correct), I'm redirected to the SP site again. Unfortunately at the SP site (The fedlet app) the message states "Single Sign On failed.".
    From reading the log file at the IDP, I understand that my user is successfully authenticated, however IDP (Shibboleth) is unable to process "SPNameQualifer"
    The log states a lot but I think the issue is related to an unknown attribute in the NameIDPolicy element:
    My NameIDPolicy in the AuthnRequest looks like this
    =====
         <samlp:NameIDPolicy
              AllowCreate="true"
              Format="urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:nameid-format:transient"
              SPNameQualifier="fedletsp"
              xmlns:samlp="urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:protocol"/>
    =====
    If I look up the details in the IDP log I see this
    ======
    - Starting to unmarshall DOM element {urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:protocol}NameIDPolicy
    - Targeted QName checking is not available for this unmarshaller, DOM Element {urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:protocol}NameIDPolicy was not verified
    - Building XMLObject for {urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:protocol}NameIDPolicy

    - Attribute Format is neither a schema type nor namespace, calling processAttribute()
    - Pre-processing attribute SPNameQualifier
    - Attribute SPNameQualifier is neither a schema type nor namespace, calling processAttribute()

    - Unmarshalling other child nodes of DOM Element {urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:protocol}NameIDPolicy
    - Unmarshalling child elements of XMLObject {urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:protocol}AuthnRequest
    - Unmarshalling child element {urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:protocol}RequestedAuthnContextwith unmarshaller org.opensaml.saml2.core.impl.RequestedAuthnContextUnmarshaller
    ======
    From topics I found using google, I understood that this attribute is not required, and that I should "suppres" it from the request.
    Now here come my question, how do you suppress this? I assume I would need to add some information to the idp-extended.xml file that indicates to exclude this attribute (SPNameQualifer) from the authrequest. But unfortunately I'm unable to find this infomation.
    Any help, tips are appreciated. I'm sure somewhere this information is stored, but I'm unable to find it.
    Many thanks

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.) You might consider adding this Safari extensions: Adblock Plus 1.8.9.

  • How to remove unwanted plugins (and no I don't want to read any unrelated articles that never answer your question)?

    I want to clear out the unwanted plugins in Fire Fox . One plugin even has a warning about not using it (Java Deployment Toolkit). But every time I ask "how to remove a plugin?" , I am redirected to an article that doesn't answer the question. And then the circular argument begins again without ever actually answering the question.
    IS IT NECESSARY TO UNINSTALL FIREFOX TO REMOVE A PLUGIN??????

    Plugins like ex Flash and Java etc are not installed in Firefox like Extensions and Themes are. They are on system and Firefox has found and is making use of them. This is why you can only activate/deactivate which tells Firefox to make use of that Plugin on system or not.

  • How to make a redirect without auto-redirect from the portlet "edit" mode?

    How to make a redirect without auto-redirect from the portlet "edit" mode?
    I use some sofisticated customizing with server-side validation of the form data. I want to redirect to the page of the portlet "show" mode and to the "edit" mode depending on the validation results. How can I do it?

    Heay.....this worked for me.
    I am able to change the mode programatically from edit to show.
    HttpPortletRendererUtil.handleEditAction(portletRenderRequest,"OK");
    I removed Apply , OK and Cancel buttons and applied my own Submit and Back button in Personalize mode and then change the mode to show on click of Back button using the above mentioned statement.
    Thanks
