How to remove an unsollicited advertisment that cannot be removed by usual steps.

This afternoon, an ad for skin care products appeared on my screen while I was getting ready to schedule an airline reservation. I tried to delete it by clicking the red circle, by pressing the delete key, by closing the folder, by turning off Firefox, by closing down Firefox, by clicking a forced closing of the program and finally by pressing the start button on the MacBook Pro, causing the entire computer to shut down. After waiting several minutes, I opened the computer again but the uninvited advertisment still filled the desktop and prevented every effort to remove it. I tried activating another browser (one I have not used before). The browser was activated, but the unwanted solicitation covered most of the second browser (Opera).
I do not fully recall how I finally escaped the advertisement, but it involved an attempt to force quit the Firefox browser which worked. Then I was able to use the Opera browser to make the airline reservation and send in this complaint and request for guidance.
The URL of the offending advertisement is"healthy-consumer.com/news/skincare-secrets-exposed/?&c1=323exit" followed by a string of additional wording: "exit."
I don't know how I can use Firefox browser again, given the horrible impact of this URL intrusion. Do you have any suggestions?
I would also like to file a complaint with any police or governmental agency responsible for dealing with such harmful invasions of our computers. Can you offer any guidance.
My email is: [email protected] My user name is: spring719. Thank you for any assistance you can provide in this matter.
Ed Hill

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware.
Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is
there for. Also, check the programs that are on your computer
'''Windows:''' Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.
'''Mac:''' Open the "Applications" folder
Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't
know what it is, use a web search.

  • How to create an infinite loop that cannot be cancelled?

    Hi , im new around java and i need a program that keeps on repeating after each each input/uses(generally meant for different user) and cannot either stop using "Cancel" or "x" while stopping only using the "stop" button
    I got a few lines of codes that look like this : String arg = "";
    do{
    JOptionPane.showInputDialog("hi");
    }while ( arg != "y" || arg!= "Y");
    and it cannot be stop with both cancel and"x"(which i wanted)
    but when i used this logic with
    Valid validUserInput = new Valid();
    do {
    userInput = validUserInput.validUserInput(a);
    switch(userInput){
    case 1 : validUserInput.optionOne(b);break;
    case 2 : validUserInput.optionTwo(c);break;
    case 3 : validUserInput.optionThree(d,e);break;
    default : validUserInput.validUserInput(f);
    }while(looping != "" || looping != " ");
    it does not really work(while it will keep looping, it can be easily stop by pressing cancelled or "x")
    So is there any logic or method that can prevent the program from being stop?
    Thankyou!

    No... He already mentioned he wants to "e.g Interactive kiosk", so saying "properly kiosk it" isn't adding any new information. Rather it's just giving the person a dead point of: you're doing it wrong. Pointing out someone is wrong is not a positive enlightenment. Pointing someone in the right direction is more productive.

    No... He already mentioned he wants to "e.g Interactive kiosk", so saying "properly kiosk it" isn't adding any new information.
    Yes it is. He asked how to do it using some Swing trickery, and I said it won't work. Which is true. The OP didn't already know that, clearly, hence the question. Now he does. That's pretty much new information if you ask me.
    Rather it's just giving the person a dead point of: you're doing it wrong.Right. He is. However, the problem is now no longer related to Java, and not something I can help him with. You should try that: not answering questions you don't know the answer to. It's actually more helpful than posting misleading, wrong answers.
    Pointing out someone is wrong is not a positive enlightenment. I'm giving basic technical help, not yoga lessons.
    Pointing someone in the right direction is more productive.As already stated, I am as ignorant of how to make a Java application into a kiosk app as the OP is. What value can I add in light of that information? I began by answering a question that was not stated to be about kiosks. Once the question moved outside of my area of knowledge, I stopped trying to answer.
    I notice you're not giving him any help, being more interested in admonishing others as you are.

  • How to free up media files that cannot be delete u...

    I watched a couple of videos on the lumia last night. I used the browser to "stream" these by the movie player. The two movies were about 2Gb each.
    Now I have no free storage on the device.
    I have tried going to storage check and it tells me that of the 7.2G 7.1G is use with 4.4Gb in media files. The next screen ("details") shows an "other" of 4Gb.  How do I delete those temporary files? None of the options work. I don't want to do a factory reset. This is unacceptable. And I don't want a 4GB phone, whenI paid for 8Gb. How do I delete these files and reclaim this space?

  • How do I deauthorize a computer that does not have access to the internet

    How does one deauthorize a computer that cannot connect to the internet?

    You can deauthorize all computers linked to your Apple ID from another computer with Internet access.
    To deauthorize all computers associated with your Apple ID
    If you need to authorize your new computer and are unable due to already having five authorized computers, you can deauthorize all computers by doing the following:
    Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
    If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
    Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
    In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
    Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).

    The first time I synced my iphone 4 with my mac, I didn't realize that all of my photos from the iphoto library would transfer over to the phone (more than 3,000).   Now, I need to remove some, as they are taking up too much space.  I cannot figure out how to remove them from the phone.  I tried to uncheck boxes and sync again, but I get a message that there is no room on the iphone.  I've read as many articles as I can find, but still cannot manage this.  Thanks for any help.

    The first two problems (box cycling from element to element on page, scroll bar returning to top) can be caused by a stuck (or defective) Tab key on the keyboard. Such damage can be caused by a liquid spill; just one tiny droplet is enough to short a wafer switch under one key.
    The last issue (black box, white text - sounds sorta like a debugger window) I haven't seen, but could be caused by something similar.
    To check for that, try using a different keyboard. If you're using a wireless keyboard, turn it off and see if the oddities stop.

    Launch Safari with the Shift key held down. If that doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet.

    I want to change my apple id primary e-mail from a .msn address to a .gmail address. The problem is that currently my .gmail address is my recovery address; I cannot figure out how to remove and replace my gmail recovery address with a new e-mail address.  I want to do this because I no longer use my .msn address.

    You should be able to change your rescue address by going to My Apple ID, signing in to manage your ID, then selecting the the Password and Security section, and answering the two security questions.  If you have trouble with this, contact the Apple account security team for your country to verify your identity and ask for assistance: Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security.  If your country isn't listed, contact iTunes store support by filling out this form: https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.

    You can't.  This is a security feature to prevent the resale of stolen iOS devices.  You need to contact the seller and have him/her remove it from their iCloud account.  Or return and get your money back.  See: Find My iPhone Activation Lock - Apple Support

  • How to remove Adware that is driving me crazy?

    I downloaded a movie player and ended up with some Adware that is driving me crazy!  It opens a new tab with a random advertisement whenever I click on a 'submit' button or some other link.  It's been happening on sites that did not normally exhibit this behavior in the past.  The ads range from Mackeeper pro 2.0 to Sexy Latina girls.  Any ideas on what could be causing this and how to remove it?  I'm using Safari 8.0 with Yosemite.

    Yes, you have accidentally installed some sort of adware. The fastest, most effective way to identify and optionally remove all currently known adware is by using AdwareMedic, developed by thomas_r. this Forum's malware guru, owner of TheSafeMac and a colleague of mine.
    If it turns out to be the Downlite adware, then they have managed to block your access to that site and you will need to use an alternate technique as described in About the Downlite adware.
    To understand why this happened an how to avoid such things in the future read John Galt's How to install adware.

    If you used iTunes to get the photos on the phone, then use the same iTunes and uncheck the music you don't want and do another sync.
