In contacts how do I remove the area code bracket? I don't live in the states so the braket just messes up my contact number. Thanks!!!

I meant by "not compatible" that all the solutions that I found on the web did not work, especially the "Microsoft exchange" one.
Fortunately I found on the comments of the first website you mentioned the right answer for me, which I copy below:
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add CardDav Account.
Enter the following information in the fields:
Server: google.com
User Name: Enter your full Google email address
Password: Your Google account password
Select Next at the top of the screen to complete the setup.
After you have completed the setup, open the Contacts app on your device. Syncing should begin automatically.
Additional Information
Note: Make sure that SSL is enabled (under Advanced settings), and that the port is 443.
If you are using application based special password go to https://accounts.google.com/Se... and instead of your password put that special code and u r done.

Was it the old 30-pin connector, or the new Lightning plug? There have been sporadic reports of the new connector snapping just ahead of the two side "dimples" that are used to hold it in place, but this would be the first time I hear of similar failure on the older and bigger connectors.
If at all possible, I would suggest a visit to an Apple Store for free assessment. Else proceed with caution either with tweezers and/or a pin to nudge the fragments out. Maybe a review of the corresponding teardown of your model at IFixIt.com may help you visualize how to attack the problem.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

I detected your frustration. Yes this is a user forum as you have stated. it could be that the absence of dial assist may be at the heart of your problem. I do not understand why it is not there and I have used my phone in other countries and have not experienced the problem you have.

How to handle area code split

It's looking like the phone company is going to split our area code in the next year or two. This is because there are not enough numbers left, so there's a good chance that one part of the geographical area using the current area code will be assigned a new 3-digit code.
I am trying to figure out how to handle this in my OSX, iOS and iCloud world. If I could select all the contacts with the existing area code and export them to a tab-delimited file, I'd stand a good chance of selecting the ones that need to be changed and then doing a "find and replace all" operation in Exel or Numbers. But I'm not seeing that as an option.
It would really be OK for me if there were "an app for that" so I could do the work on my iPad and let iCloud take care of my other devices. But I'm not seeing that as an option either.
Does anyone have good esperience or suggestions on how to handle this?

I used to have an @me.com address (after the .mac one went away) and now I have the same address, but @icloud.com. When I tap on the "From:" field when composing a message on my iPad, I get the option of using my primary Gmail account, my @icloud.com account, or my @me.com account. I would like to not see the @me.com account be an option as I'm never going to use it. How can I remove that and have the available options include only the @icloud.com account from iCloud?

I don't believe you can. The @icloud address was added as an alias to your @me address, which will remain intact. Messages sent to either address arrive in the same inbox and I don't believe you can delete the @me option. You can, however, choose @icloud as your default rather than @me, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5441.

An iPad can neither receive or send an SMS since that technology is part of voice cellular service. There are some third-party apps in the iTunes Store that can send SMS messages (a server run by the app developer bridges between the Internet and a cell service to send the message) but I have no direct experience with them to offer any recommendations.
As to the other question, if you have iMessage set up on the iPad and you use that Apple ID to send and receive, then yes, that person will see all your messages. If you don't want them to see your messages, you'll need to set up a different Apple ID to use with iMessages.
