How to remove audio in iMovie

I've just started using this new version of iMovie. I did pretty well with the older version, but nothing I learned there seems to work with this one. I can't figure out how to manipulate the original audio. I want to only having it playing in parts and have music overlayed. If I can't do that, I would like to completely remove the recorded audio and just have music. Is there a simple way to do this?

Two quick Videos you should watch.
1) This one from iMovie 08 covers the basics.
2) this one shows the new features in iMovie 11. Choose the one that says All New Audio Editing.
There are two ways to have the audio muted in parts. 1) Select the frames you want to mute (by dragging) so that the yellow border is around them. Then right-click/Split Clip. Then set the Volume slider to zero., using the Audio Tab of the Clip Inspector.
2) Use the rubber banding as shown in Video #2.

  • How to remove audio from iMovie

I recorded a video on my Sony camera and now after watching the clip there was something I said on that clip that I do not want the other person to know about it once I burn the clip to a DVD disc.   Is there anyway to do this and how?   If there is may you please provide step by step instructions on how to do it.
    Thank you.

  • How to add audio to iMovie on the iphone?

The speak recorder on the iphone is ok to record audio. But how do I get those recordings into imovie on iphone? Its the latest imovie (2.0?) on iOS7 on iphone 5.
    Thanks for any help
    Erland

Thanks for looking into this. I am probably unclear here...
What I hope to do is to get audio recording fra the that speach recorder app that comes with iOS. The recordings can only be exported through mail, messages and dropped with Airdrop.
Hmm maybe with itunes in some way.
I would like to use speach recorder and then import that audio into imovie, not the audio effects that are with imovie.

  • How to remove audio?

i have some clips/thumbnails that i don't want to have the ambient sound in it. how do i remove audio from selected sections?

i mean how do i use just the audio and not the video?
If you mean "extract" the audio and add it to the project, simply select the audio segment needed in the "Events" window, press "Command-Shift" and drag the clip segment to the project window. (A "plus" should indicate the dragged content can be added to the project.) Drag to start point -- e.g., the start of another video clip and release it. A green audio track will appear under the video which you can now slide/adjust length for use.

  • How to remove audio clip I added to iMovie 10?

I created a short video, added audio clip from itunes.  But I cannot upload it to Facebook due to copyright rules.  How can I remove the audio clip?  I separated the audio from the video, but it's only the original audio, not the clip I added.  I looked through several posts but could not find this exact topic.
I see some posts that talk about inspector, but imovie 10 doesn't seem to have it.
When I click on the video segments i don't see anything about the audio clip that I added.
    Newbie here, please be patient...
    Thanks.

You just need to go back to the project in iMovie 10, delete the iTunes audio clip and share again.
(I'm not quite clear what you did when you said you 'separarted the audio from the video'.)

  • How to Extend Audio on iMovie 09

How do you extend audio out on iMovie 09? I am working on a music video and I would love to have the track laid out and just add on clips where I want them. All I get is the small green box that says the song name and doesn't even play the music unless you add a video, then it cuts off at the end of the video.
    HELP!!!

One way is to use the Beat Marker feature.
Put down the audio track and assign beat markers. Then add clips to the neat markers.

  • How to remove audio keyframes after mix

    Hi,
Early during editing I tried to make an audio mix with the music fader ('write' mode) and now it keeps all the old keyframes whatever I do whilst trying to make a new final mix. How do I get rid of my old mix? I tried to remove the whole music track but Premiere has a good memory ... too good! :-)
Newly imported audio remembers the very first mix.
    Help! (yes, I'm a newby)
    Pieter

    Pieter,
Normally, the Track Keyframes will be overwritten, when you do another session with the Audio Mixer. Not sure why your are not being overwritten, if your Send is set to Write, or Touch. Is that Audio Track Targeted in the Timeline?
In the Timeline, go to the Track Header and toggle to View Track Keyframes. Then in that Track, lasso ALL Keyframes (do not know if Ctrl+A - Select All will function, but try that too), and just hit the Delete key. That should clear all Track Keyframes. Note: I am sure that you realize that these particular Keyframes are attached to the Track and not to the Clips. If this will not work, then just Copy/Move the Clips to another empty Track, and do another Audio Mixer session.
    Good luck,

  • How to move audio in iMovie?

My son is working on a school project and we're borrowing a Macbook to use for it. He is currently stuck on moving an audio clip so it doesn't overlap his video clip. I have no idea what he's doing because he's so savvy with video programs...except, apparently, with iMovie. Please help as soon as possible.

  • How to optimize audio in Imovie w/GarageBand

Help. I've shot something with a Canon T2 and imported it into Imovie. The picture quality is great but the sound is average. I purchased an H1 Recorder/mic to use as a mic but still the sound is average. I understand that I could use garageband to easily optimize the sound but am unable to bring an imovie sound file into garage band. Is there some way of doing this that I'm not seeing. When I try to import into garageband, the video files are dimmed and unselectable.
Currently, I'm recording everything (sound and audio) with the camera and importing the whole thing into imovie. Should I make a seperate file with the H1 Handy Recorder and open that up in Garage Band then sync the optimized file with the Imovie File. If so, what sound file format would I need to use to be able to open something up in GarageBand.
    Thanks in advance!

  • How to remove audio noise in section of video clip

I have a section of video which contains some time on
a ski boat and then footage of a skier.  The section of ski footage is noisy with boat engine noise.
How can I reduce just that section of noise.  I don't wish to eliminate it just lower the volume.

Unfortunately, you have posted to the Tips & Tricks sub-forum, which is basically a repository for articles on how to do things. Maybe our over-worked MOD, Steve Grisetti can move this question out to the main PrE forum, so that many more users will see it, and can give you suggestions.
Now, let's look at your Audio footage, and what you want to do.
The section of ski footage is noisy with boat engine noise. How can I reduce just that section of noise.  I don't wish to eliminate it just lower the volume.
Success depends on exactly what you have in the way of audio signals, and exactly what you want to do with it.
If there are other signals in the Clip, that you wish to keep, and only wish to lower the Levels of the noise floor (the boat's engine), you might have success, but that depends on two things: the frequencies of the sound that you wish to retain at original Levels, and the frequencies of the boat's engine. I believe that PrE has some limited EQ (Equalizer) Effects. I normally use an audio-editing program, with a full compliment of EQ's.
I'd start with a Graphic EQ Effect, and then spend a lot of time adjusting the sliders for each frequency band and doing careful listening. It is likely that you can attenuate (lower) the Levels for some of the frequency bands, that ONLY contain the signal from the engine. You will loose those same frequencies in the ambient sounds, but there is no way to separate those out, and address them individually. Depending on the number of frequency bands that your EQ offers, this might be able to isolate many of the changes to the offending frequencies. Do not know how many frequency bands the Graphic EQ in PrE will offer, as I have never explored any.
In Audition, one can also sample a part of the file, with just engine noise, and then work to eliminate most of that from the whole Clip. Note, one still has a balancing act, of lowering the Levels across the frequency bands. I would go lightly here, and then work with the Graphic EQ to clean things up a bit more. Last, I'd look at both the High-pass and Low-pass filters, plus a Notch Filter.
Since I noticed that you had also posted to the article on noise reduction, I know that you have read it. However, when your post gets moved out to the main forum, and others drop by, I will link to that ARTICLE here.
Now, and so that others can perhaps give you specific ideas, can you tell us what part of the audio spectrum you wish to keep at the original Levels? Also, if you have a short piece of the Audio, can you attach it as a PCM/WAV? Hint: use the little Attach Files (paperclip) at the lower-left of the forum editing screen. Let us know exactly what you'd like to try to keep. We'd be happy to process that small section and see if we can make improvements to it, and then post the steps that we took to arrive at our edited piece.
    Good luck,

  • How to remove audio warbling

I have a cd of an audio file recorded by a mini digital cassette recorder.  I have rippd the file to a .wav on my hard drive and the quality of the audio is terrible, full of noise and warbling throughout the file.  The warbling is so bad that you can barely make out what is being said, sometimes not at all.  I am running CS5.5 Production Studio so I have access to Audition and Premiere, but I have not had any luck with either one yet.  It's starting to look like there is nothing I can do to fix it since it was recorded in such poor quality.  Any help is much appreciated.

I've been in this situation before and I've got about 4 minuets while my tracks mixdown in CS6 trial so here it goes...
You may not be able to improve the 'quality' but you may be able to improve the intelligability of those voices. You could start with noise reduction in CS6 by selecting a section of noise and then opening the 'Noise Reduction' effect.  Set the 'Noise Print' options to the highest settings and then capture a noise print by clicking the 'Capture Noise Print' button.  Then click the 'Select Entire File' button.  Then it's just a matter of sliding the noise reduction % slider around to find a nice spot where the noise is tolerable around the voices.  In this case I would say around 35%.
Then you can use hiss reduction on light to remove some of the nasty hiss.  The next step would be a bit of equalization.  I like to use the 'Mastering' effect for this because I can also use the 'Loudness Maximizer' to fix the amplitude of the signal.  The EQ section is usually boosting the Low Shelf and the High Shelf by about 6dB.  The Low frequency at about 260Hz and the High frequency at about 2400Hz.  The mid or 'Peaking' I use to cut a bit of the center frequencies to eliminate some harshness... Usually the mid is about -3dB at about 400Hz.
That usually clears it up a bit but the settings usually need a bit of adjusting to get right.  I suggest setting up the mastering rack after the initial noise reduction.  It's a shame that the noise reduction plug-in can't be inserted into the mastering rack for this though.  It runs so well on this computer even with the highest settings.
Hope that helps. Have to go now...
PS.  Great job to the developers on CS6. It's amazing and blazing fast here.   Mixdowns/Exports seem to be in real-time up until the last 30 seconds though.

  • How to remove audio device?

Here's my problem: Including the use of the application uninstall, the "Apowersoft_AudioDevice" is not being removed... It doesn't seem to be causing any issues, but I want it gone!
The uninstall (below). After going through it's process an "Apowersoft_AudioDevice" is left over...
The Apowersoft application has been "uninstalled".
System preferences > Sound Panel > Output (picture below) - There is no minus button to deselect.
System preferences > Sound Panel > Input (picture below) - Same issue: No minus button to deselect...
    OS and such. Running Mavericks.
I have tried reinstalling and re-uninstalling, but the audio device seems to enjoy sticking around.
Please help! I would greatly appreciate it!

  • How to remove audio sources ?

    Hi everyone,
Already excuse me but I'm not a very good English speaker (often like this in France ).
I currently uninstalled a Mobiola software I used to take my iPhone 4 as a Webcam. Many weeks after that I found the software useless and I tried to removed it. I successed to remove the app but not the sources. By sources I mean, in the Sound windows I still see the both "Mobiola Headphone" and "Mobiola Microphone" (In-output sources) ?
Does someone know how I can only keep the original sources from the Macbook ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello all,
I had same problem and I asked MacPaw Customer Support about this.
    They gave me following info.
lease follow these steps to run the uninstaller manually:
    1. Right-Click on the Mobiola WebCamera (Headphone) uninstaller and select "Show Package Contents"
    2. In Finder navigate to Contents/Resources/Scripts
    3. Double-click on remover.scpt or main.scpt (AppleScript-Editor should open)
    4. Click Run in the toolbar. (Enter your password when instructed)
Please follow these steps to restart your Mac:
    1. Open the Apple menu (the Apple icon in the top left corner of the window)
    2. Choose Restart... from the menu
Wait a bit for your Mac to restart and check if the bits of the applications are gone.
