Update your Shockwave Flash '''v14. http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/'''
The link for Flash Player is: '''http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/'''
Download the '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Mozilla Search Reset]''' {web link}
This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up
and then resets your search preferences and home page
to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This
affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

  • SafeSearch has locked Browser.startup.homepage and I can't reset it.

Starting up Firefox defaults to safesearch web site. My home page is locked to this site and I can't change it. I've tried the firefox reset, virus removal tools, register edit and can't seem to change the setting. I looked in about:config and see the there is a locked preferences for Browser.Startup.Homepage with the safesearch web site. How can I unlocked this setting?

Thank you for responding to my dilemma.
There is a mozilla.cfg file located on my C drive in Program Files(x86)/Mozilla Firefox directory. Also, there is a local-settings.js script that reference the mozilla, cfg file. The script is located in the same directory in \defaults\pref. There is also a channel-prefs.js file located in the same directory that looks normal.
The content of the local-settings.js file is:
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
The mozilla.cfg file is not readable so I can't really post it. Additionally, I didn't create the file. I've posted an image in Hex format.
Thanks for providing your help and I look forward to your reply.

    ********** UPDATE ************************
I renamed the mozilla.cfg and local-settings.js file and finally regain control of defining my home page. I think that I finally got rid of that most annoying safesearch crap. Thank you very much for help.

  • On opening a new window tab shows - "browser.startup.homepage=about:home"

When I open a new window all I see is this "browser.startup.homepage=about:home". And address bar says chrome://branding/locale/browserconfig.properties
What is happening and how do I fix this?

You can check for problems with preferences and rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js and user.js files to reset all prefs to the default value.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • I want to remove Firefox as my default browser. How?

I have a MAC Pro laptop -- all of the repsonses deal with PC environments. I know there is an easy solution. I just can't find it. I'd rather not delete Firefox from my computer but if I can't figure this out, I will. Thx

I was just trying to find answers from the kb articles. The one I posted actually said to use the Safari option.
From your screenshot, you are in Firefox's options, and that may help, but you are in the left most tab [General] You need to be in the right hand tab[Advanced]
See [[How to make web links open in Firefox by default]]
I do not think that actually change the default browser merely stops Firefox being the default browser all the time. You will still need to follow the other article, that says
    Using your operating system
    # From the Dock, open Safari.
    # From the menu bar, click the Safari menu and select Preferences....
    # Click the General icon, to display the General preferences panel.
    # In the Default Web Browser: drop-down list, select Firefox.
    # Quit Safari

  • How can I remove Firefox as my default browser?

I do not want Firefox as my default browser at this time. Please advise how I can release Firefox from being my default browser.

So if there is a link in some other application, what do you want to happen when you click it?
The default browser settings are stored in the Windows Registry. In Windows XP there was a handy dialog to change the application responsible for handling URLs, but I haven't found it in Windows 7. If you find directions for editing the settings in Vista or Windows 7, then you could try blanking out the settings for how to handle URLs. It's always a good idea to make a backup before tweaking registry settings manually.

  • How to remove Firefox

Would someone please tell me how to remove all trace of firefox? I have just uninstalled it using Revo Uninstaller with a view to installing a different version but when I installed the different version my addons were still there as also were my bookmarks.
What is still left behind after uninstalling it and how do I remove these bits and pieces other than by formatting my hard disc?

You would have uninstalled the application, but have not removed the profile folder (location where the user data is stored).
You can create a new profile folder which will be similar to starting anew, for details on how to do that see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows
An alternative is to delete the profile folder, you can do that manually as shown here - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox - You can also run the Firefox uninstaller and select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations", this will remove all Firefox user data such as bookmarks, password, cookies, extensions.
Note that there are some applications install Firefox extensions outside of the profile folder, these will not be deleted by the above methods.

  • How to remove firefox 2 from solaris 10 sparc (Sun Blade 100)

    I need to remove firefox 2 from a Sun Blade 100 running Solaris 10 ( s10s_u4wos_12b sparc ).
Mistakenly I installed firefox 3.6.14 unaware I had firefox 2 installed on the system.
Currently, firefox 3.6.14 crashes constantly (completely unstable) and adjustments to PATH variable do not seem to hold.
May I get help in removing both firefox 2 and firefox 3.6.14 and then a re-install of firefox 3.6.14?
Location of firefox 2 is /usr/bin/firefox
Location of firefox 3.6.14 is /opr/firefox
In advance, thanks for the help.

My guess is that you have already completed this upgrade, but in the event that you haven't I recommend that you use NFS to either mount a DVD from another server or else copy the OS DVD to a local drive on a server that has a DVD drive and then NFS mount the file system on the server you are trying to upgrade. I use NFS fairly often for upgrades and for patching. I have one server that has a file system that contains the source code from the installation DVD and another file system that contains the most current patch cluster.

Began download of firefox setup 3.6.8 exe. It stopped, did not complete. Icon remains on desktop as "3.6.8.exe Part, Broken File. Cannot uninstall and clear it. Can delete the icon, then it reappears when computer reboots. How can I remove the partially installed setup file? And get rid of the icon?

Try this to delete the file:
    * Open the Task Manager (XP:Ctrl+Alt+Del; Vista/Win7:Shift+Ctrl+ESC) and go to the "Processes" tab.
    * In the Process tab, right-click on the Explorer.exe process and select "End Process".
    * In Task Manager, use: "File > New Task > Browse" and browse to the folder containing the file and delete the file via the right-click context menu.
    * Start a new explorer process via " File > New Task (Run)": explorer.exe

  • How to open firefox 22 in private browsing and navigate an url from command line

Hello. What i want is simple
Start firefox at private browsing mode
At this started private browsing mode open multiple urls
    But it is not working
    I tried this
It always open a new regular window and navigate url in that regular window. Also opens a private window but doesn't navigate any url
    How to fix =

It is a workaround that you can consider because other ways probably aren't possible.
You could reserve a second profile in cases where you need to use the command line if you do not want to do this in the current default profile.
    See:
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Shortcut_to_a_specific_profile
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Using_multiple_profiles_-_Firefox
You can use the -no-remote command line switch to open another Firefox instance with its own profile and run multiple Firefox instances simultaneously.

  • How to remove Firefox and all its files?

I've been primarily using Firefox 1.0 and mistakenly decided to upgrade to 1.5. Since then, it constantly locks up and won't work properly. As well, it keeps reverting back to the 1.0 version although I downloaded 1.5 and it worked initially.
How can I just remove all versions of Firefox and start over?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Move the application to the trash. Empty the trash!
You can also delete some files from the users' library Application Support folder.
To find out where you have them, do a search in Spotlight (type Firefox, and wait just a little bit).
