How to Remove local backups on mac hardrive

My backups are now at 100 gb, how do I remove this?

Back up your Mac if you have not done so already. To learn how to use Time Machine read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support.
Delete the "Hotspot Shield" program from Applications if you did not already do that.
Select the entire line that follows (triple-click to select it), then control-click, and from the contextual menu that appears, select Services > Open:
/Library/LaunchDaemons/
Locate the file containing the word "anchorfree". Drag it to the Trash.
Repeat the above instructions with the following:
/Library/Application Support/
Locate the folder named "Hotspot Shield" and drag it to the Trash.
Repeat the above instructions with the following:
~/Library/Preferences
and
/Library/Preferences
Locate any files containing the words "anchorfree" and drag them to the Trash.
Open System Preferences > Users & Groups. Click Login Items. If you find an item named Hotspot Shield, select it and delete it with the [—] (minus) button.
Log out or restart your Mac.
For a description of how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended actions read How to install adware. Apple's instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.
Review your Gatekeeper settings: OS X : About Gatekeeper - Apple Support. Gatekeeper is designed to help prevent you from inadvertently installing garbage software.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
What application do you want to uninstall?
On Mac, most of the applications are uninstalled just dragging them to the Trash. If an application comes with an uninstaller, use it instead to uninstall that application.
Also, never use a cleaning app to uninstall an application. They can damage OS X, so the only option will be reinstall the operating system

  • HT1338 How to Remove ividi malware from Mac/Safari

Hi, how do you remove ividi from a mac?  It's invaded Safari.  Be so grateful for any help, thanks

ividi is either a Safari extension or add-on that may have been installed unwittingly. Most people don't do that unless they are deceived into doing so.
Go to Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. Remove any that you do not recognize or want.
Safari does not include any Extensions by default. If you see any Extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
It may also be a Safari add-on. To fix that read: Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues:
    Manually uninstall third-party add-ons
If the software doesn't have an uninstall feature, quit Safari and try manually moving the third-party add-on files. These files are usually installed in one or more of the following locations:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    /Library/Input Methods/
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/ScriptingAdditions
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    ~/Library/Input Methods/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/ScriptingAdditions
To quickly navigate to each of those potential locations, select each of the lines above, individually (triple-click to select the entire line), then control-click and from the contextual menu, select Services > Reveal in Finder. If the folder exists a Finder window will open with the folder selected. Open each folder and examine its contents. Drag anything resembling ividi to the Desktop, or directly to the Trash. If you are uncertain about a particular file, post its name in a reply.

  • How to remove MacKepper from my Mac book pro

I downloaded MacKeeper today which I now regret. I have tried to delete the app how it is not allowing me, I have tried it to trash etc but there is no hope. Please help in anyway you can. I own a MacBook Pro

"MacKeeper" is a scam with only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
    First, back up all data.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
If you have incompletely removed MacKeeper—for example, by dragging the application to the Trash and immediately emptying—then you'll have to reinstall it and start over.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the other functional components of the software will be deleted. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
☞ Quit MacKeeper before dragging it to the Trash.
☞ Let MacKeeper delete its other components before you empty the Trash.
☞ Don't try to drag the MacKeeper Dock icon to the Trash.

  • How to remove virus, malware from mac?

    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, remove adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac, and AdwareMedic. If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.) You might consider adding this Safari extensions: Adblock Plus 1.8.9.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

  • How to remove old backup files from time machine? Lion OSx

    Hi everyone,
I am just wondering how to efficiently and safely remove the old backup files from time machine? I tried once with command, but it damaged my extra-disk... Does Lion OSx have fixed that?
    Many thanks

    Blue-
Time Machine will automatically delete back-ups as the need for space arises. If you want to delete a certain file (application, document, whatever) and have it gone for good you can do that as well.

  • How much space to backup my mac mini

My mac mini was running on 512 GB's
    I've increased to 2GB
How much space do I need to do a full backup before upgrading?
I thought  2GB usb would be enough, but I obviously figured wrong....
    advice?

"Backup" requires as much space on your Hard Disk Drive (and NOT your RAM Memory).
Your HDD is probably something like 80GB? 120GB? 250GB? 500GB? - depending on how old it is, and if the hard disc has been upgraded.
Select your hard disc drive (top right of your desktop? - often called "Macintosh HD") and in the Finder go "File:Get Info...."
What does it say under "Capacity"?
And you won't be able to backup to a USB stick - not big enough!  You'll need an external hard disc drive, like this:

  • HT1338 how to remove vista from my mac, now that i have installed mountain lion, as i need to free up space on y hard drive

i have installed mountain lion, and now need to completely remove vista and parallels from my mac, to free up the space on my hard drive, boot camp wont help. and the new update of lion has totaly closed these two software programms

All Mac operating systems use any free space on your hard drive as virtual memory, and this virtual memory plays a part in how well your computer performs. Because of this, the more data you have on your hard drive, the less virtual memory becomes available. Therefore, in order to help increase your Mac boot time, and keep your computer running smoothly, periodically cleaning your hard drive is necessary. To clean it up you want to get rid of any old or unnecessary files. You can do this manually by removing unused applications, emptying your trash etc.,

  • How to remove Genieo from my mac

Norton Anti-virus for MAC ran and said I had the Genieo virus and that it had safely removed it. I looked in my Applications Folder, and it's still there. How can I remove it all together??

MadMacs0 has answered the question of how to get rid of Genieo.
I'd also like to comment that you need to get rid of Norton as well. It is well-known for its ability to bring a perfectly healthy Mac to its knees, causing all manner of performance and stability problems. In exchange, it does only a mediocre job of protecting your Mac against malware. Your Mac actually does a better job all by itself than Norton does of protecting you against malware. Using Norton for additional protection on a Mac is like having a solid oak front door with a strong deadbolt, and erecting a cardboard barrier in front of it as additional protection against burglars.
Make sure that you uninstall Norton properly:
