I successfully deleted the downloaded but non-installed 8.01 update from my iPhone 5. However, my phone still shows that I have a pending software update to do. When I select the "Software Update" option I'm alerted that "Your software is up to date" and iOS 8.0 shows as the current software installed. I've rebooted the phone but the digit "1" still shows up in the Settings>General section. Any idea how to remove this now false update notification?

There is an update on our server (2012) that keeps failing. Every 2 days it's scheduled to reboot and every time it's the same song & dance. Server reboots, configures update, gets to 98% and reverts it's changes.
How can I actually remove a failed update, so that I can break this cycle? ;) I can't even figure out which update it is that causes this :(

I don't use Apple's own SUS software I use Reposado instead, however it is my understanding that the locations of files used by Apple's SUS software have been moved with Yosemite/Server 4.x.
Try looking in the following locations
/Library/Server/Software Update/Config/

/private/var/db/swupd/

You can't, just ignore it.
Unless you don't want the app at all, delete app from iPad and also the app in your iTunes library.

How to remove an update when there is no option to cancel it?

iMac on Yosemite 10.10 here, but under purchases on the App Store, it shows OS X Mavericks download is paused and the only option is to resume download. Since I am already on Yosemite, how do I cancel/stop this update completely, instead of just pausing it?
I see an update under launchpad on the dock, but that is just the old OS update. It's rather annoying to keep looking at and am hoping to delete it or cancel it fully.

You were right, I used migration assistant earlier and it seems that it created another folder for keynote and pages ( /Applications/iWork '09 ) and I missed to see it. Deleting it solved my issue. Thanks for the tip!

Has anyone got any info on how to remove opensoftware updater? it has locked up my safari screen

I accidently clicked on something when trying to play a game. It stuck this box on my safari screen that says Opensoftwareupdater.com and tells me to click ok to update my software, which I suspect will download a virus. I am not able to get rid of it. Anyone know anything about it? The apple support rep has never seen it and sent me here.

If the app was downloaded by your friend's account then only his account will be able to download updates to it - you can delete the app and download it via your own account, and you will then be able to download any future updates to it.
