How to remove or edit PDF highlights in PREVIEW

Hello;
when viewing PDF in Preview, you can add some marks and make annotations; but after highlighting or underlining some text, I cannot change or remove highlights anymore. Is this a bug, or is there anything special I should do?

It's a ridiculous piece of interface nonsense, but the way to remove the highlights is to open the sidebar, select Annotations from the pop-up menu at the bottom of the sidebar to get the list of annotations (and highlights) in the document.
Select the annotation/highlight in the sidebar (it'll have the page number next to it, and selecting it sends you to that page, too) and you'll find that the annotation itself, or in this case the highlight, is selected, and pressing Delete gets rid of it.

How to remove the EDIT button from Overview Page

Hi,
I have a overview page for Service Request(SRQM_INCIDENT_H - component). Now, I want to remove the EDIT button from the overview page and want to place it for each assignment block.
I have seen the there is concept calles VIEW_GROUP_CONTEXT. However, I am not sure how exactly I need to apply that and what code and where I need to write.

we removed in our system a lot of the standard buttons in this overview page like this:

How to remove the edit icon in interactive report?

Hi All,
I am using the Customer Tracker 1.1 sample and I would like to remove the edit icon on the Customers list. (Instead I would like the Customer name to be the link itself).
However, nothing I do on the reports properties seems to have any effect on this icon!
I have even remove the A.ID column from the underlying SQL query but I still see the little pencil!
Any ideas?

How to create multiple editable PDFs from data merged Indesign file

Hi
This is quite complicated but I'm hoping someone can help me and hoping I can explain it too!
I am working on a project for a client. She wants to send 150 people a 6 page PDF with fields to complete and return to her.
She has an Excel spreadsheet with some of the fields completed already so these will be Data Merged into InDesign CS6.
The short version of the question goes like this:
Can you automate the process so that once all the data is in the InDesign file, it can then create a PDF every 6 pages all in one go?
For those still interested, the long version of the question goes like this:
I have created 3 pages in InDesign with fields to complete and used the 'Data Merge' facility to add the Excel info.
I have created 3 more pages with blank fields to fill in.
Then I have made all fields editable using the 'Buttons and Forms' facility in the Interactive menu.
Then I have created an interactive PDF. Then I have opened that PDF in Adobe Acrobat X Pro and saved it as 'Reader Extended PDF' and 'Enable Additional Features'
I now have an Editable PDF with half the fields filled in and half blank to be filled in and this can be saved and returned.
Now, this would be great if it was only one or two. But I need to create 150 different versions and this is just for the Pilot study. If all goes well, this will go to 5,000 people and I can't be creating 5,000 seperate PDFS!!
At this stage, I am just focussing on the 150. So again, going back to the original question, is there a script that could be written either to break up the 1st PDF every 6 pages into 150 different PDFS? Is there even a way of extending that script to Save as Reader Extended etc? Is there a simple idea that I'm missing? Are there any ways to do this? I can use 'Created Merged Documents' to make 150 x 6 pages in Indesign so can anything be done from there?

How to save an edited PDF in Acrobat Pro without any compression

Hi,
I just edited an existing PDF in Acrobat Pro 9 - actually I inserted some high resolution images in TIFF via the Touchup tool.
What do I have to do to save it without any compression of the TIFFs - I tried a lot, but the outcome is always compressed, showing artifacts.

First, editing PDFs is really only for minor fixups. There is generally no word wrap or such when doing such editing and often then seem to go downhill fast. To edit text, you have to have the font available. If the file was scanned and the OCR applied was searchable text, the only option to edit what is displayed is with a graphics editor, typically PhotoShop. PhotoShop allows Acrobat to have edited graphics and then be reinserted in the file (I don't do it, so can't give details). ClearScan replaces what is seen on screen in the graphic with the text. In that case, you see all of the text and the corresponding errors (often many). You may want to load a graphic (bitmap) with text showing or use a scan and try the various versions of OCR to see what I am talking about. That may help you see the options. Searchable PDFs is more useful if an original is critical, such as in the legal profession.

In Safari how do I open a .PDF file in Preview instead of Adobe Reader?

When a pdf file opens on my computer in Safari, it opens with Adobe Reader (v. 7.0.8). Until recently, I could right-click on my mouse and and a drop-down menu would appear with the option to open the pdf file in Preview instead of Adobe. That option has now disappeared from the drop-down menu. Can anyone explain how to get back the menu option to open the pdf file in Preview? Thanks. David

This is what I would like to as well. I often have a lot of pdf files I need to open and then save to my hard drive. When I click on a pdf file on a website Safari opens it and then I need to right click in the document to open it with Adobe. How can I get it to open in Adobe the first time without having to right click after it opens in Safari?

MAKE MULTIPLE PDF DOCUMENTS IN PREVIEW
Drop first page PDF file into Preview icon on the dock
Drag 2nd, 3rd page into page area
Select print then save as PDF
Save to desktop with new name.
Drag new file to Preview then press share to email
SCAN IN PREVIEW
In Preview go to FILE
Select IMPORT FROM PRINTER
Select Scan
Press CONTROL and DUPLICATE in the edit menu for SAVE AS to name file

Go to the Map, Background & Animatic Browser (last button in the centre tool bar alongside the Transition button). Drag the Black background (or any background) to your project. From an Event, drag the video selection directly onto the Black clip in the project. As you drop the video clip, a pop-up menu will appear. Select Picture in Picture.
Your video will appear as a small picture within the black clip. Click on it and reposition it to the centre of the viewer, using the yellow guide lines to get the exact centre position. Resize the Picture in Picture if desired by dragging the corner handles.
NOTE: You may need to extend the duration of the Black clip to match the duration of the video clip. Double-click on the Black clip to open the Inspector, then adjust the duration there.

Issue saving edited pdf file on preview

I opened a 5 page page pdf file on preview and just wanted to save the last page and delet the others. When I am done, I am not able to save, or save as or cancel. When I click on save as a page for save as came on but disapeared without i could change the folder name and then it frooze.

First, you need an app capable of reading PDFs but that's not the issue you should be addressing. You cannot upload PDFs to job sites using Safari. Safari allow this ONLY for videos and pictures.
To do what you're asking, others have suggested using an alternative iOS browser called iCab Mobile or iUploader (iTunes links). Both should help you.

How to remove "Save as PDF" from context menu

The item "Save as PDF" leads to a commercial site called NITRO. I am trying to eliminate it from the context menu. I installed the add-on Menu Edit and changed the item Save as PDF from visible to hidden on my Windows 8.1 PC with Firefox 30. However, the item did not disappear from the context menu. Yet on my PC with Linux Mint 17 with Firefox 30 for Linux Mint the item is gone from the context menu. My PC s linked with Firefox Synch.
How can I remove this?

Such an entry in the context menu is likely added by a PDF related extension, so check your extensions.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

How to lock an editable pdf on "Sending" or "Submit"

Pretty new to Acrobat Pro so not sure if what i'm attempting is even possible - any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
What we're trying to achieve is to have an editable form (application form in the Life Insurance industry) where once the user has fully completed each field and wants to submit the completed form back to us, it should lock/flatten the form once it gets e-mailed to us. This should be done with minimal to no intervention from the user submitting the form (which will be mostly brokers and clients).
Is there a script that can be run, or perhaps an additional button added on the last page of the form that the user can then click (once all the fields have been completed). For example a "Submit" button, and on clicking this the script will flatten the file and add it as an attachment to an e-mail that the user can then dispatch?

Yes, that's possible.
Also, not sure how robust the scripting can be within pdf but we also want to make sure that if a broker/client has Acrobat pro, that he/she won't be able to change some of the scripting in the form when completing it?
You can apply a security policy to the file that will prevent it from being edited, but it's far from 100% secure.

How to remove security from pdf created in Acrobat pro 10 to allow addition of watermark?

I am a newbie to the forum. I have a dynamic form created in acrobat pro 10. Each time I open the form to add watermark on it, i have a message that says " You don't have sufficient permissions to perform this tasks" and as a result the watermark process will not proceed.
When I created the form, I save the form with no security in the default. But,when you click on the form properties, it will display that this form has some pdf restrictions such as :
Changing the document " Not Allowed" .
Document assembly " Not Allowed"
Page extraction " Not Allowed"
Filling of form fields " Allowed"
Page exratction " Not Allowed"
and host of other restrictions.
My question is how will I change this dynamic fillable form to allow all options as "Allowed" as this pdf form has some restrictions.
If all options are allowed like in normal pdf, I am able to add the watermark but when a restiction is placed, the message "You dont have sufficient permissions to perform this task is displayed.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I need to add the watermark as a control for this forms during distribution. If you want me to send the attachment and the message, i would greatly welcome it.

How to edit PDF's in Preview?

Heya - I was sent a form in PDF format that I need to fill out but I'm not sure how I can edit it and save my changes, can anyone tell me?
And does Preview let me add new fields to an existing form? Like say it's a document that was scanned and visually has the fields but no digitally?

Preview.app is just that - a viewer. It is not an editor but does have some very limited editing capabilities. Some pdf forms with fill-in spaces will work with Preview and some can be saved with the changes, others not. That depends upon the way the form was written, and has nothing to do with Preview.
If you need to actually edit a pdf, then you need a pdf edtior. I use GhostScript, which is free and quite powerful.

How do I save edited PDF forms as editable PDF templates?

We need to download empty pdf forms, add some generic details (eg our company name and address) and then save that as a template so we can then open it and fill out through the year for different clients with their own individual data without having to fill in our own address again.
Preview cannot do this. On Tiger you can save the edited file, but it prevents it from then being editable again; in Leopard you can fill in the form with your data, save it, then open your saved file and edit it again but none of the data you added the first time has been saved.
We have to go into Windows and fire up Acrobat Reader 4.0 which has this functionality. All versions of Acrobat above v4 on both Windows and Mac were unable to do this so Preview isn't alone. It is frustrating though as we have to do this all the time - we fill out tax return forms for many different clients each year and really don't want to have to add our data manually each time.
Any suggestions? Any settings I can tweak anywhere?

There's a huge difference between reordering existing pages and altering their content. The PDF specification is quite vast and Apple doesn't even attempt to support much of it because of the work involved.

My office at work has created a very useful public domain guidebook called "The Performance Improvement Guide". I have the edited 1.77 MB pdf and would like to see it available on i-books for free.
