How to remove "Other" category?

I have a GIANT "other" category on my iPhone that takes up 4.87 GB's on my phone... How can i get ride of this? I literally just restored my iphone and it updated to the newest software and then it showed even more in my "other" category then before i restored it.... this is obviously rediculous and i cant have this other category take up alomost 5 GB's of room on my iphone. Just so everyone knows, this is an iPhone 5. Please please please someone help!!

it usually means corrupt data. you can try going to settings, general, usage and there you will see how much space each app is taking up. see if there's a certain one that's way over normal. keep in mind that it will show how much space the app itself takes up, then how much space it's data is taking up. if that does't show you anything the next step is to restore the phone from it's latest backup; if that doesn't work then you will have to restore as new and manually add your stuff back.

  • How to remove "Others" category from OS X Spotlight?

    Hi, guys.
I use Spotlight only to launch applications, so in Spotlight PreferencePane I have only Applications box checked (image 1). In Privacy Settings, I have blocked Spotlight from looking on any visible folder except the Applications one (image 2). Here there are two screenshots of my PreferencePane Spotlight settings, for you to check what I say.
However, the behaviour of Spotlight is strange on OS X 10.9, because it shows a category called "Others", which includes many useless files and folders, (such as .html, .sav, .webloc, .bundle...) that don't fit in any other category. I have re-indexed Spotlight, I have changed almost everything on the PreferencePane and the odd behaviour is still there. Here there are more screenshots, in which you can see the "Others" category marked with red ("Altres" in my language) whetever it is the App I'm looking for. This didn't happen before installing Mavericks, I guess.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you all.

    Hi,
I had the same problem but didnt want to select all the folder that was giving me some unwanted results.
    Here is my steps :
    install Xcode
    open terminal and typed :
    open ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.spotlight.plist
Then Xcode open and u can see the com.apple.spotlight.plist file.
    Here is mine :
As you can see, i added item 16 as a "Dictionary"... with "enabled" as a NO boolean and name a String containing  "OTHER".
This should work in any languages.
    Hope this helped.

  • How to remove "Other..." from my sign-in screen?

How to remove "Other..." from my sign-in screen?
I was trying to change an Administrator Account by starting from my Leopard Install DVD and from the Utilities menu choosing Reset Password, etc. A longish story involving my inability to shut-down the computer while others are signed in but not actually using the computer. In Tiger I was able, since moving to Leopard I need to go into each of their accounts and manually log each of them out. A headache.
For right right now I need to get rid of the Other... account name, etc from my sign-in screen. How do I do this in plain English please? I find all this Admin jargon does my head in.
    Cheers, SZ

You need to disable the root user. From what I understand you enabled it from the install DVD's password reset.
Use [these instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106290] to disable it.
Those instructions led me down this path, I have not the head to deal with them again today. My eyes glaze-over listening to myself read them aloud. SZ

  • How to remove 'others' memory from my iphone?

How to remove 'others' memory from my iphone?

OK I have deleted all old texts, voicemails and turned off the document and data to my iPhone 5.  I still show 1.5 GB of "OTHER".
Any other ideas on how to remove this 1.5 GB of information.
I can't update my iOS anymore.

  • How to remove "other" files from iphone memory

Concerning how the memory is used on the Iphones under the "other" category, I have found that the biggest culprit is text messages that include photos and videos sent and received. Think about it, when you take a picture and then send it, even though you delete it from your camera roll, it is still necessary to hold in memeory as being part of the text history. It is only removed from the phone when you delete it from the text message as well. This also applies to text messages received. This is a large hidden area to most people!
    good luck.

Restore the iOS.  You may have to do this as a new phone (without using a backup).  Note that "other" contains messages and emails - if you have a lot of these, especially with photos/videos, that would account for the other usage.

  • How to remove "other" in iPhone storage

I can see when I look at what is on my iPhone a category called "other".  What is it and how can I remove/reduce it, as is taking up valuable memory/storage?

I found that you just can't remove this stuff. Other people said removing old messages, music, browser cache, facebook app, removing album arts, voice recorder, etc.
Name the solution people suggested, and I've tried them all, and nothing really works. Stuff will come back again.
Restoring as new iphone works initially to about 800MB for me, but it will get the Other to balloon to about 2GB for me after resync my photos, and music.
I've submitted a feedback to Apple http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html perhaps there's a button to clear old/stale items in there. At least something to clear it out, and let the apps rebuild the index/databases, whatever they need to function. You should do the same, tell them.

I'm trying to set up my 83 yr old mom with Face Time on her new iTouch.  I accidentally added her to my Apple account and her facetime wouldn't work so I tried to give her her own Apple ID and it said it was already associated with another account (mine) so how do I remove her from mine so she can have her own?

When you set up a new Apple ID for her you need to use a different email address from the one you used with you own Apple ID.

  • How to remove other account purchases from itunes?

My stuff is on my mom's computer / itunes, and I don't know how to transfer / remove it. For example, she has a whole Beauty and the Beast album that I downloaded, but she did not, and somehow it's on her computer, not mine. Also, when updating apps, it asks for my password for some of them. I don't know how our accounts got merged, but I'd really like to make itunes more user-friendly for her so she actually knows how to use it without it yelling at her all the time. Thanks!!!

    1. Move the song files to your computer and then delete them from hers; if needed, right-click them in iTunes and show them in the Windows Explorer.
    2. Sign in with her Apple ID, and delete and redownload the applications which are asking for your password.

please help me remove the other files section. its higher than my apps and higher than system.

PLease see the many posts around on this topic.
    Short version;
Delete any file downloaded through apps like UCbrowser and YouTube Downloader and use storage schecker to remove temp files. Having Other storage be large is not bad by definition. No longer needed space will be released as it is needed for other apps..

      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

I cannot delete your posts. As I explained, only the Hosts can.
And if you can find it in your heart to actually pass on the feedback that the pre installed apps not being able to easily be gotten rid of is a problem, then that would be great.
Use the feedback link I gave in my first post.
Apparently one of your hosts deleted his own post where he called me an idiot for necroing this thread, where it's still an issue. Obviously I'm not so naive as to think it'd be changed on one person's say-so, but the fact that he deleted his own post is problematic and goes to trust and accountability.

  • How to remove 'Other' data?

    Hi,
I have been trying to get rid of this absolutely annoying data represented by 'Other' here:
To my own knowledge, I am 100% sure that this part of my data should not even be close to 2GB.
I have been restoring my iPhone time and time again, but every time I get my backup back, this yellow bar is back, taking over half of the free space on my iPhone.
The picture is a screen shot from after my most recent restore, about ten minutes ago. I don't even have any music or photos loaded onto my iPhone yet, and it still is there hogging all of the space.
I've had to limit my app choices because I obviously don't want to go over my capacity, but I have been facing those problem for over 3+ months, and am just tired of having to deal with this.
I've used the 'Erase All Content and Settings' method, the original restoring method, and maybe 2 other methods that I can't point out at this moment.
I really really need help, and I would be most thankful to the person who will help solve my problem.
    Thank you.

"Do I have to restore as new, then just put all my data back on manually? "
    Yes.
The corrupt files are obviously in your backup.  if you continue to use your backup, then you will continue to have this issue.
    Do not use your backup.
