How to remove 'others' memory from my iphone?

OK I have deleted all old texts, voicemails and turned off the document and data to my iPhone 5. I still show 1.5 GB of "OTHER".
Any other ideas on how to remove this 1.5 GB of information.
I can't update my iOS anymore.

I Connected my iphone to itunes and i saw that 4 gb is taken by others.
i updated my iphone version (7.1.1 to 7.1.2) and it disappeared, but only for one hour.
the next couple of days the others memory grown to 5.8 (!!!!) gb!
i Dont know what to do. I cant afford to lose all my data so i cant restore my iphone.
does someone have any suggestions?

Can't figure out how to remove select music from my iPhone 4 with the new iTunes

My old PC with all my music on iTunes died, and I need to remove some music from my iPhone 4 to make room for the new OS update. I downloaded iTunes on a different computer and tried to sync the iPhone to it, to move all the music on my iPhone to iTunes so I could deselect what songs I wanted to remove to make the storage space. I can't figure out how to do this with the new (non-user-friendly) iTunes update. When I sync the phone, the only songs that show up are the ones I have purchased on iTunes, but non of the songs/albums that I transfered from CDs. I don't want to reset my phone to delete ALL my music, just select songs/albums. Can anyone please help me figure out the new iTunes to be able to do this? It is driving me nuts and I'm getting really mad at Apple for their constant updates making things less easy to use!

My iphone works fine, but I have a problem with the memory of my 8gb phone, i have 2.2 gb of music and one app thats 9mb and when i try to download another app it says i do not have enough memories, i go to seetings to see whats wrong then it says thats 4.3 gb is other? I have a 4S that had 5+G of "other" that I was trying to free up. I searched and searched, tried all the suggestions and had no success. I tried a full restore and freed up the memory but didn't want to loose all my settings, app folders, etc. After a process of elimination the solution that worked for me was to delete txt messages! When I went from the 3G to the 4S I restored from a back up. I've never delete any of my txt message history... so all that information, photos, videos, etc were being caried from one device to the other for like 3 years!
I started with a test. Pluged in my 4S, synced it. Registered 5.2GB of "other". I ejected the phone from itunes. I deleted my wifes txt message (with whom I txt the most). I plugged back in and "other" dropped down by an entire Gig!! So, I tried again with another that I txt often... and sure enough when down another Gig.
So, I decided to take the plug and start off fresh... I deleted ALL of my txt messages and my "other" memory went down to .52gigs!
This is why a FULL restore has been successful for those trying to clear out "other" memory. When you initiate a Full restore, you are cleaning out your entire memory of txt messages which includes large files of photos and videos!
So this is what worked for me folks! I hope it helps someone!

How do I remove "Other", permanently, from my iPhone 5S?

I have an iPhone 5S, 16 GB, AT&T, iOS 7.1.2. When I plug my phone into iTunes, it tells me that I have a certain amount of "Other". People say that it can be anything from pics from text messages being stored to corrupt music files. Before I get into what it actually going on, I'd like to let EVERYONE know, I have done the following, more than once:
1. Restore from Backup 2x
2. Restore from New 2x
3. I have erased all music files, even though I have NO music on my phone.
4. I have cleared all caches, emptied emails and images.
5. I have run all sorts of programs on my computer.
6. I have lost all my info 3 times already doing backups and restores.
7. I have even been to Apple. They did a restore from new, which is what I told them I already did, and it erased all my "Other"...for 5 whole minutes. By time I got home, I was full on "Other"
With that being said, I look at my usage in my settings. It tells me I have no available memory. I have 12.1 GB used. When I add up ALL of my app usage, I get a total of 1.3 total GB being used by ALL my apps. Yet I have 11.75 GB of "Other". I can't even take a single photo while working! I use my phone for a camera in my line of work and I can't even take one single photo! Yet, after doing a restore or clearing caches, iTunes will show that "Other" goes from a lot to less than 2 GB. But literally, 5 mins later, I walk outside to take a photo and my phone tells me I have reached my limit on storage. I have 7 total photos on my phone. Photo Stream is turned off. WHY? I find it absolutely unbelievable that not one person from Apple can explain what "Other" is. I don't want to hear that it contains this, or it has to do with that...Obviously i am not the only one having this issue, so why can't one employee give us a definitive answer?
Again, please don't reply with any solution that I have mentioned above. I have tried it all, I have been to the Apple Store, nothing has worked. I don't have time to wait at Apple for an hour at a time, when I already have an appointment, just to have them tell me the same crap over and over. I simply just want a true answer on what EXACTLY "Other" is. My usage in my settings says something completely different than what iTunes tells me.

That is very strange... I wonder if it has something to do with the firmware or some sort of error. I haven't ran into this but at the shop I work at I've ran into several firmware errors on iPhone 4 all the way through the 5s. Maybe its something as simple as putting a different part of the code into iTunes... I know you can something of this extent. I would look up error 1669, I know you have tried a number of things but look it up on the forum and see what fixes are available so that you may be able to restore it properly without all this garbage you are running into. Just a thought for you.

Same issue with my iPhone 4. I deleted everything (apps.songs, pics, video) anything you can think of..... I call apple and they recommended a restore so I did and what happen?.... I still see those "other" spaces taking a big chunk of memory. So I made an appointment with the Genius Bar & most likely they will replace my phone .... Blah !!

there is an app called daisydisk on mac app store which will help you see exactly where the memory is focused and consumed try using that app and see which folders are using more memory

The simplest thing may be to back-up and then restore the iPhone. If you don't fancy that then remove all media that is currently synced to it, then double check and manually remove any media that remains on the device, before reselecting your sync options.
If you've been manually managing the device and your library doesn't contain copies of all your media then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

Hi all.
Since I tapped by mistake on the Game Center Icon, the battery of my Iphone 3GS is squeezed in a few minutes.
I cannot use it for more than half an hour.
I'm sure that it is due by Game Center because I upgraded my 3GS to 4.1 several days ago and it was pretty good.
Yesterday I wrongly tapped the GC icon and from that moment on, the battery duration is unacceptable.
Even if connected to the PC! Recharging takes more than the double.

You can't delete any of the pre-installed apps, including Game Center. Further, there is no official way to downgrade firmware.
Double tap your home button, bring up the multitasking bar, tap & hold the Game Center icon, when the red minus sign appears, tap on it, thus removing Game Center from the multitasking bar. Tap the home button when complete. Once done, reset your phone:
Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release(ignore the slide to power off). See what your battery life is like now.

Concerning how the memory is used on the Iphones under the "other" category, I have found that the biggest culprit is text messages that include photos and videos sent and received. Think about it, when you take a picture and then send it, even though you delete it from your camera roll, it is still necessary to hold in memeory as being part of the text history. It is only removed from the phone when you delete it from the text message as well. This also applies to text messages received. This is a large hidden area to most people!

Restore the iOS. You may have to do this as a new phone (without using a backup). Note that "other" contains messages and emails - if you have a lot of these, especially with photos/videos, that would account for the other usage.

Hi, guys.
I use Spotlight only to launch applications, so in Spotlight PreferencePane I have only Applications box checked (image 1). In Privacy Settings, I have blocked Spotlight from looking on any visible folder except the Applications one (image 2). Here there are two screenshots of my PreferencePane Spotlight settings, for you to check what I say.
However, the behaviour of Spotlight is strange on OS X 10.9, because it shows a category called "Others", which includes many useless files and folders, (such as .html, .sav, .webloc, .bundle...) that don't fit in any other category. I have re-indexed Spotlight, I have changed almost everything on the PreferencePane and the odd behaviour is still there. Here there are more screenshots, in which you can see the "Others" category marked with red ("Altres" in my language) whetever it is the App I'm looking for. This didn't happen before installing Mavericks, I guess.
Any suggestions?

I had the same problem but didnt want to select all the folder that was giving me some unwanted results.
Here is my steps :
install Xcode
open terminal and typed :
open ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.spotlight.plist
Then Xcode open and u can see the com.apple.spotlight.plist file.
Here is mine :
As you can see, i added item 16 as a "Dictionary"... with "enabled" as a NO boolean and name a String containing "OTHER".
This should work in any languages.
