How to remove parent keywords in photos?

Hi all,
I have started the laborious task to keywording my photos in Aperture 3, all 35,000+. I recently imported my photos folder into Aperture and will eventually restructure the library hierarchy based on keywords.
To help give me a kick start on keywording, I purchased the Controlled Vocabulary Keyword Catalog. This has been a big help. I still have had to add my own keywords. But, at least, I didn't have to start from scratch.
I eventually plan to do detailed keywording as I build out my keyword hierarchy. But for now I may use more general keywords. For example, I may assign the keyword "mammal" to a set of photos. Later on, I may add the keywords elephant, bear, beaver, etc. which are all have the parent keyword of mammal.
It would be very nice when assigning new keywords to photos for Aperture to be able to remove parent keywords from the updated photos. Is there a way to remove parent keywords from photos in Aperture either built-in or via plug-in or Apple Script?
PS: Yes, I know that specific keywords can be manually removed for individual photos a a group of selected photos. I am looking for a way to do clean up keywords in batch instead of manually doing this. Trying to save time.
Thanks!
Steven

Since you have two External Definitions and you are using both in on mapping hence your scenario becomes 1:N mapping scenario and this is the reason you are getting the additional nodes in your mapping.
so if your requirement is 1:N then whatever you are getting is correct, you can refer the below mentioned blog for help on this, But if you don't want the additonal nodes then you have to create TWO different mappings and used the external definitions seprately in each mapping.

  • How to remove a keyword from a group of photos

I want to remove a keyword from a group of photos.  They all have the same keyword attached, of course.  When I right-click keyword and choose 'Remove keyword from selected photos' it removes the keyword from the most-selected photo ONLY, not from all photos that are selected.  I have to remove the keyword from each photo one at a time.
    I'm running LR 5.6 on a Mac.
    Thanks for any assistance.

  • How to remove existing keywords during import?

I have tried to find a way to NOT import existing keywords present in files that are already on my system, when I am importing those files into my library. They mess up my existing keyword structure and I just want to ignore them during import. I tried to enter an empty keyword text area with checkbox ticked in the template I apply during import, but that doesn't do the trick for reasons I don't comprehend. Any clues?

To tell you the truth, I don't think the Lighroom Import function has the capability of removing keywords.
Your choices seem to be ...
Remove keywords after import, in which case you would also have to remove the unwanted keyword from your hierarchy
Use freeware tools like Geosetter or Exiftool to remove the keywords from your photos before importing

  • How to remove a keyword in Aperture 3

I've been testing Aperture 3 now for a few hours. First impression is that it's great! Faster than Aperture 2 and raw support for LX3.
In the Metadata inspector I miss the keywords-list, which in Aperture 2 used to be at the bottom of the Metadata tab. That place is occupied now by Map. I used the keywords-list to remove keywords from an image. In the Aperture 2 manual I read that removing keywords should be done now by deleting it from the keywords textbox, which is not very easy. But, in my case, it does not work!
Where has the keywords list gone?
How do I remove a keyword from an image?
    Greetz, Koen

Piece of cake (Aperture is -- like most programs -- very good at batch processing).
Select all the images which have the wrong keyword. Remove it from all of them (use whatever method you like). All the images are still selected. Add the new keyword (use whatever method you like).
Databases are tremendously powerful at ... manipulating data. In all cases they follow the now-standard "Noun, Verb" syntax: first select what you want to act on, then specify the action.
There are four separate specific sections in the User Manual detailing applying keywords:
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=10%26se ction=0
And one specific section on removing them:

  • How to remove haze from a photo?

I have a number of pictures which were taken when the air was hazy. Is there a way to remove the haze from the photo, or have it miniminzed to emphasize the images in the photo? I have tried the Edit sliders, but it either makes it darker or lighter and affects all parts of the image the same way.
    Thanks

Photoshop Elements 2 Solutions, written by Mikkel Aaland is a very good manual to complement the manual that comes with Photoshop Elements 2. I sent the author some of my images asking how the haze could be removed. He was not able to do this and felt that the haze was an integral part of the image and could only be changed using a setting that changes all pixels at once. My feeling is that a more expensive program in the $1000 range might be able to accomplish this working on a pixel basis. I will enhance the photos the best that I can and let it go at that.

    Hi:
Yeah ... I suppose you might think that .. maybe I didn't explain it fully enough for you.
I take lots of photographs ... and put them on my own web site or send them out to friends and relatives, etc.
As for my question, I was advised to copyright my photos by a photographer friend of mine.
I was trying to put copyright symbol (©) on my own photos and succeeded, but it took a lot of dickering
around to figure out how it is done. I ended up with a little white rectangle on the lower right corner of each photo with the "c" and name in it. After doing it, I realized that I don't like it (it detracts from the picture) plus I rather don't care about having them copyrighted.
I don't make money out of this, I do it for enjoyment and as a hobby.  Ergo, I decided to remove that white rectangle from the few photos that had it. Just couldn't figure it out.
The directions in the Aperture manual aren't really that helpful. I hadn't thought that a watermark would do the trick. I haven't had a chance to try it until today (had a cataract out yesterday) so was a little preoccupied.
In any case, thanks to Frank Caggiano for not being overly suspicious and getting me on the right track. And I appreciate your concern ,,, but I find your suggestion that I might consider robbing another photographer of their fair recognition in respect to their work somewhat offensive. So much for being innocent until proven guilty.

  • Remove parent Keyword without losing the children

    As an example
I set up a keyword set where I had
company > department > PR or maintenance or IT etc.
I don't really need to have dept in there can I remove it without losing
the department names which I do want
I have run into this and had just rewritten but that seems wasteful
Also can I write a list of keywords and add them without doing each individually ?
    thanks

Sure. Drag the children you want to where you want them and then delete what you don't need.

  • How to remove corners on inserted photo

I want to insert images in Pages without the old fashioned corners. Anyone know how?

Any image inserted into Pages does not have old fashioned corners unless it is part of the image itself.
But you are looking at a particular example, and are therefore assuming we are all looking over your shoulder so can see it too.
Chances are you simply have a picture frame selected In:
Inspector > Graphic > Stroke > Picture Frame
So change it to something else or none.

  • How do you use Keywords?

I'm curious how you use Keywords. I started to go into my pictures today and add them. I went first to the first Event I had and looked for any pictures of my kids. I was going to make my Keywords pretty broad. If they were aged 0 - 5, then that was my Keyword. But, then I had a picture of a brother and a sister, where the brother was 8 and the sister was 4. What to do? Then I changed it from 0-5 to 0-10. I've tagged about 300 of them that way, but now I'm wondering if it's worth the time. I know I can also use multiple Keywords, but that just seems to be a lot of work.
For reference, I name all my pictures when I input them. I use the following format: name of person - event (if pertinent) - town - year, so that might come out as Chip - Halloween - Golden - '08. That way, I find it pretty easy to find whatever I might be looking for.
Do you use Keywords? If so, how?
    Thanks.
    Chip

The BEST system of keywording is the system you will actually execute. So your priority should be figuring out what you are willing and happy to do on a fairly regular basis.
Since it already sounds like your system is a hassle, I don't know that your keyword needs to reflect the age---you can easily search on KW: Kids and Date Range: (whatever the young years would be) after the fact, and save yourself trouble while tagging. Or set that up as a Smart Album, and then once you've done the "okay when the kid was 0-4 that would be the dates 1990-1994", you don't need to do it again.
Certainly, though, you should be open to multiple keywords on the same photo--that's the power of keywords, to categorize the same photo in multiple aspects.
I don't bother naming my photos, but unlike TD, I create a lot of smaller events and name them pretty carefully, similar to your photo names. I use keywords for recurring themes, like Me, Family, Friends, Rivers, Flowers, or places I visit multiple times. Things with a beginning and ending, I lean on the event name to track, eg "Christmas Eve, Christmas--Opening Gifts, Christmas--Dinner, Christmas--Hanging Out".
I find it very important to use the shortcuts, so that I can skim through 300 pix from a national park and just hit f to apply the Family keyword, m to apply the Me keyword, w for pictures of water, l for pictures of flowers, etc. (The keyword pane must be open to use the shortcuts)
I tend to set up a smart album based on a keyword about the same time I set up a keyword, so that the list of smart albums helps me remember what I am doing with keywords. Also, thinking in terms of which albums you want to be browsing helps figure out how you need to keyword the photos--when your relatives or friends come over, what do you want to show them?
