How to remove Recent contact in messages

I want to know if there's a way to remove SMS contact history... for example go into messages, click on new message, then type a + and it starts listing recent phone numbers even if there not in your contacts... I have a slew of these from one off txts i've sent especially from group messages if i reply to someone?

I would so love the answer to this too! I regularly have to text one offs for work and it is so annoying that these come up.
I think there used to be a similar problem with Mail and now you have the option to Remove as it has a little arrow next to it.
No idea why Apple feel the need to save this info - you want to regularly SMS that person - you save their number!

iOS 7 had a feature I could use (found here: http://www.tekrevue.com/tip/remove-recent-contacts-iphone-messages/) that would allow me to remove recent contacts from iMessage via an info tab. I used the feature to fix iMessage vs SMS issues with contacts who switch from android to iPhone or vice versa. I've since not been able to find the feature after updating to iOS 8. Does anyone know where this message option went?

My issue is I cannot see the "circle I" info button for individual contacts, only for group messages or recently deleted contacts, the latter which changes the phone number to "other." I should have made that clear. I was once able to delete recent "saved-in-contacts" contacts using this remove from recents feature in order to restore or deactivate iMessage with that contact.

Sorry, I meant in Contacts. Once in the Contacts list press Options then Settings. In there you can set the default contacts list which on my phone is set to Phone.
I did have a problem with this once I set it to contacts because it kept asking me to sign in to Ovi contacts, and you may get this rather than the above.
I can't remember how I got around it but will recreate it if I need to

Lync for Windows 8, how to remove a Contact Group?

So I'm using Lync for Windows 8, and I have finally figured out how to add people to groups, but I haven't figured out how to remove old personal groups. I have multiple groups in my Lync that aren't relevant anymore, and I would like to clean things up,
but I see no way to remove them.
Also, I haven't been able to find a good user manual for Lync for Windows 8. If someone has a good manual, I'd love to have that on-hand as well.

From you description above, did you mean Lync app for Windows in the Windows Store?
It is simple to delete the groups from Lync app for Windows in the Windows Store.
Right click the “Group Name” of the group which you want to delete, then a list will be showed, one is Rename and other is Delete. Just click “Delete” to delete the group.

Reset the preferences. in PSE version 10 and older quit the editor (quit PSE in PSE 8 and lower on a mac) then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift on a mac). Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.
In PSE 11 and 12, go to the editor preferences>general and click this button, then restart the editor:

im having a problem with the messages application. everytime i want to start a new chat and look for a certain name my old Icloud contacts pop up. i always click the and press on "remove ___ from chat" but it only works for like 5 mins then they pop up again. its really annoying because i always send pictures to my phone using the Share/Messages and i always think i could end up sharing it to one of those unwanted contacts. ive done everything possible to remove them i even made a new icloud account but its no use. not even my phone has those contacts anymore i dont know why its doing that. any suggestions?

I ended up going to Best Buy, where I got my LG G3 Verizon phone. The Tech tried everything to correct the duplication, but could not find how to do it. He deleted everything, and went back to factory settings. Darn if the duplicates didn't come back.
He went to my Verizon account, and went to the Verizon Cloud. Clicked on Contacts, and there were all the duplicate contacts. He deleted the duplications, leaving the original for each contact. BINGO the problem was solved.
I am using the Standard Messaging instead of Verizon messaging Plus. The Tech said that if I had been using Using Verizon Messaging Plus this may not of happened. I just down want the added cost of Messaging Plus.

Hi everyone. When I go to type the address of an email I get as far as the first letter and a list of "recent" email addresses pops up, which is handy except for some reason the first one is a combination of two emails address, one I know and one I only vaguely recognise as possibly being a former student who might have been on a mailing list of mine at one time. This combo of emails addresses doesn't appear in my contact list or address book on its own, but since it shows up as I start typing my husband's email, I'm sure there has been a time or two where I've just selected it to autocomplete the address field, and ended up sending something probably embarrassingly personal to not just my husband but this other person as well. How do I go in and clear out my icloud's memory of past-sent emails? Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

yeah forget it. iphone is so stupid. on blackberry I can just go directly to her name and delete her right there whereas on iphone if u go directly to her name and click edit there will be no option to delete her contact. u need to exit that screen, go to main menu then go to contacts then find her name again (among my 6500 contacts; i actually found an easier way so now I copy paste that person's name and find it easier that way in contacts) and then click edit and then go to the bottom of that edit page and click delete. very annoying and slow. some iphone feature are just inexplainably slow, long and annoying.

OK, it has been long enough for Skype to take Messenger's place. I have Bing'd, Google'd and Yahoo'd the process to remove the Messenger contacts from my people list in the Skype app. I have re-installed defunct versions of Messenger on throw away virtual machines so that I can sign in to my Microsoft account and actually remove my Messenger contacts there as the API it communicates with is still apparently available. The contacts do not show up in the desktop verison of the Skype client, only the Windows 8 Store version of the client., version 2.7.0.1002. I can click these people and block/remove them until I am blue in the face, but they will not leave my people list. I know none of these contacts will ever be online again, Messenger is gone. How can these ancient artifacts be removed.
Wait, before you say "cancel your Microsoft account and create another", I just plain can/will not. I have way too much tied to my Microsoft account with Microsoft (MSDN, Azure, Outlook.com). No way I am doing that. I really like Skype, not a fan of the way the transition to it has been handled, but it has been years now and this is still not cleaned up. What gives?

I totally agree and millions of Skype users do to and have the same opinion and problem. We have transitioned to Skype, Microsoft has pushed us to do so, but we still are tied to old technology with no way to leave it behind. The transition from Messenger to Skype has been one of the worst planned. We should be able to delete Messenger contacts directly from the Windows 8 Skype app or desktop app. So why has this post not had a reply from Microsoft?
