How to remove Safari 6?

I've installed Mountain Lion but it seems to have put Safari 6 onto my Mac.
Safari 6 doesn't seem to support the fairly universally standard (it has been there since Netscape) 'delete' key to go back to the previous page and seems to be transmitting every webpage I enter to Google one char at a time. I'd rather keep my privacy and not change the way I work.
Any ideas how Safari 6 can be deleted (and ideally replaced with the old version)? Do I need to uninstall Mountain Lion is there another way?
Thanks

Steve, you're going to have to do some research to comprehend how cookies work and how to control them. Here is some related information:
1) Mac OS X 10.8.0 requires Safari as it is used for more than just a web browser by the system. Apple also doesn't want to have users strand themselves without a web browser.
2) As Tuttle pointed out, you cannot go backward to an earlier version of Safari. 10.8 requires Safari 6.x.
3) Every Google search in any browser means data is being sent to Google. Major DUH factor here. But using Google search does not equate to you being tracked via tracking cookies. Tracking cookies are specific to each website. Searching is a generic service not requiring cookies.
4) Use the settings in the Privacy tab of the Safari Preferences. You'll see:
- a) The button 'Remove All Website Data...' that kills off all cookies and tracking data.
- b) The radio button for 'Block cookies From third parties and advertisers. Use it.
- c) The radio button for 'Limit website access to location services....' The most private setting to use is 'Deny without prompting.'
- d) Check ON the box for 'Website tracking: Ask websites not to track me". This is merely a gesture, but some humane websites and advertisers care and won't track you.
- e) As Tuttle pointed out, check ON 'Web search: Prevent search engine from providing suggestions'. I personally don't see the point of worrying about this setting. But there it is.
Here is a list of some security enhancing Safari extensions to use. You will have to do your homework discovering how they work and how to set them up. They can be very annoying to use. But the provide the privacy and security you require:
Ghostery
WOT (Web Of Trust)
Incognito
Do Not Track Plus
AdBlock
SafariCookies (The upgrade to the full Cookie app is well worth the price. It is IMHO the very best app for controlling cookies and other user surveillance data).
ClickToFlash
ClickToPlugin
If you want to delve even deeper into personal web security, check out these Safari add-ons:
JavaScriptBlacklist (which is kind of wimpy)
JavaScript Blocker (which is so excellent that I paid for it. But it is a bit complicated to learn andcan be annoying to use.)
Here is a great website where you can verify that Safari has excellent support for web standards. Compare the results with other web browsers and you'll be surprised:

  • How do remove Safari and MobileMe Mail completely????

I have been having problems with both MobileMe email (I am not on iCloud haven ot upgraded to Lion),
    and Safari.
I forward IMAP mail to MAIL from gmail. At one point mail would be sent from the WRONG email address,
and it began sending what I had just sent back to my inbox as if I had checked to send me a copy - did NOT.
I changed ALL of my email P/W 's and it is working okay so far, but don't trust it will continue. And can mail
pprombles be connected to the Safari problems below?
ALSO...Safari is very slow, will freeze and close,  and need to be restarted - but here is a clue that I think
it needs to come out:  occasionally when going from one page to another I will get artifact for a split second that is
like many tiny (different sized) rectangular boxes in black and blue colors. Never saw my Mac do this before.
Could these be due to an extension?  How do  you find the extentions for Safari adn remove them to see if that
will help the problem?  I only added  AdBlock but according to Apple Ext.  it says I have Translate installed to
read entired pages - which I don't recall installing at all.
I am running Safari 5.1.9  on  MacOS 10.6.8 --- it was suggested I up Memory, etc., but I recently reformatter to
decrease need.  However, is it possible that all the updates are too large for what I have now?  Is does not matter
how much space I have (plenty of room) but what's in it now needs more processor and speed to run because the
    updates are less efficient?

Hatter,  if I were upgrade for the new OS -  what all do I  need if I ordered it all to do myself at  home? Incl. the type of RAM, or anything else  needed please.  Thank you.  My understanding is that when I upgrade a computer the RAM must match  each other if I insert it a new one  - for example, if I have 1 GB,  I need to get another 1GB and not two 500 MB....etc.   Correct?
What about upgrading processors or ????
What do you know about the new Maverick?  Or is it too new.  Should I just get Lion?  and is it better to get the stand alone Lion OS,  as opposed to putting in the previous OS's and updating?  Will that save space?  Thanks.
I am sooooo frustrated with this think bouncing back to freeze, crash and burn I am about ready to go back to PC if MAC is going to model them with a new OS every year.  Grrrrrrrrrrr.

  • How to remove safari extenstions

My Safari experince is very slow comapring with Crome, So i try to remove some Safari extensions, please help me who to do it?

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab.
You can switch OFF or uninstall extensions from there.
If turning off extensions does not help, it may be something else slowing Safari down.
If so, help here > Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found

  • Two safari browsers on the same Mac- how to remove one?

Since my windows PC broke, I had used my kids' mac min lately. In order to complete an on-line form I had to instal the 4.0 version of Safari. I followed the instructions on the website (with the form) and linked to apple and downloaded version 4.0 that works ok. BUT, version 3.0 is still installed and I hadn't figured it out how to uninstall it - having both browsers on this minicomputer with limited memory slows it down.
So, how do I uninstall the old version?

    Thanks for the welcome
It is the 4.0 version. However the shortcut on the desktop still opens a 3.0 version (I just cannot find the 3.0 version under applications any longer, or any uninstall/remove programs options). I was wondering if , once I fix my PC or get a MAC of my own, I should just remove Safari as a whole and reinstall the older version.
Sorry, but this is the first MAC we owed, and a lot of stuff is not structured like on a regular PC.

    1.  Use  free  AdwareMedic by clicking “Download ” from here

Install , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
Once done, quit AdwareMedic by clicking AdwareMedic in the menu bar and selecting

      2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off and relaunch Safari.
Turn those on one by one and test.
                   or

  • How do I remove Safari including all related files on a Mac?

    Hi,
How do I completely remove Safari, including perferences and other related files?
I want to do a fresh re-install of Safari.
I downloaded Safari from the Internet so I got the software to install.
However installing it on top of my old Safari installation does not resolve the specific issue I have with Safari.
In other words, reinstalling doesn't help as the problem carries over in some way.
It's worth nothing that I don't have the issue on any of my other macs. Just on the iMac and I want to get back to a situation where the iMac works as before the issue occured.
Already tried to empty cache and following some other advice that might be causing the issue I have. All to no avail.
So now I want to completely remove Safari so I'm sure nothing caries over from before the re-install.
    How to do that?

Removing Safari won't help. and since you've tried reinstalling and that didn't help... try some troubleshooting.
Login to another user account on your Mac. Try Safari there. Same issues there, then it's possible the startup disk needs repairing. Help here.   http://support.apple.com/error/503.html?locale=en_US&viewlocale=en_US
(The support pages are down for a bit but should be up soon). If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions at that link when it's available.
If Safari is ok in another account then at least you know it's not a system wide issue.
Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file. Quit Safari if it's open.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Open Safari. If it functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
Next, check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. Turn that off if you have any installed, then try Safari.
Next.. try resetting Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.

  • Hello  how to remove Ads by CouponDropDown on safari with mavericks like extensions remains empty  thank you

    hello
how to remove Ads by CouponDropDown on safari with mavericks like extensions remains empty
    thank you

Since I do not use Safari, I had no idea that was an extension, but that person should not be calling that a virus as that is a bit over the top; besides, I have extensions turned on precisely because I want Adblock and WOT to run.
If that is an extension, then it was installed and can be uninstalled which would appear to be a good way to handle it.
    @bragon18:
I'm on my Mountain Lion machine and I do have extensions showing on the left:
(can't check on my Mavericks machine at the moment).
