How to remove stubborn shared servers/pcs?

Hello! So I recently got my first Mac about a month or two ago and have thouroughly enjoyed the experience thus far, even if it is a cheap refurbished iBook G4. It is a bit difficult navigating in this Intel based world now-a-days but I have been able to work around and make sacrifices as far as software is concerned.
The only real problem I have ran into is that there is a shared computer in the Finder that is named 'Connie'. I am sure this is due to it being previously owned and I have a suspicion that this server belongs to a buisness. I am able to access the server as a guest and read/write files. My real concern is whether or not they have access to my computer and also how do I go about removing this from my shared computers? I have tried all of the basics, I have removed plists, I have tried to drag it away, I have tried ejecting it, but to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

To stop anybody seeing your files, turn off File Sharing in System Preferences>Sharing.
If you disconnect from the Internet does "Connie" disappear?

  • How to remove family sharing on itunes

how do you remove the Family Sharing on iTunes on my pc?

See Leave Family Sharing - Apple Support.
Unless you meant Home Sharing, in which case enable the menu bar with Ctrl+B if needed, then use File > Home Sharing > Turn Off Home Sharing.

  • How to remove stubborn colors in Indesign and Illustrator swatch palette

    Hello,
There are actually two issues I have with colors in Illustrator and Indesign: One is to remove unused colors in the swatch palette. After I make sure all colors are correctly used in my file, I will select "unused colors" to get rid of extraneous colors but the unused colors still appears in the palette. Second, a color is used in the file (e.g. color designated not to print) but somehow it doesn't appear in the swatch palette until I select "show added colors" in the option pull down menu and instantaneously, it reappears in the palette. How does one hide the color while it is clearly used in the file.
Does anyone have answers to these puzzling issues?

Thanks! I'll try the methods in the link you've provided but do you know the answer to the second question which is clicking on the "new add colors" in the option view. I've seen this happen in several instances where the actual color is being used but it's not visible until you select "new added colors". Keep in mind that this designated color (a process color of magenta) is intended not to print because it's a callout for dieline.
I presumed the creator of this file main purpose is to reveal colors that are printing but hide non-printed colors like magenta dieline in the swatch palette.

  • How to Remove 2003 Exchange Servers from Organisation

    All,
I have 2 old Exchange 2003 servers in my organisation which I want to remove. If I uninstall Exchange via Add / Remove programs does that completely remove them from the organisation or is there anything else I need to do??
    Many thanks
    James

    Hi
Yes you just need to cleanly uninstall Exchange from those two servers.  The uninstall process will check if there are any objects that need to be removed or transferred.

  • How to remove the option "shared with"

    Hello,
for a certain list, I need to remove the option "shared with' from the "....", not at the ribbon. Is this possible and how?
    Thank you
    Christos

I would also suggest manipulating CSS, and you see some of the ideas in this forum. However I have not tried any of those methods -http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/66420/how-to-remove-the-shared-with-or-email-to-everyone-buttons
    Hope this helps!

  • How to remove SANE from the list of scanners that are shared in Preferences

So I installed SANE for an old scanner, which is now replaced by a new Canon that is supported by native OSX and canon drivers. I therefore uninstalled SANE, the prefpane and all occurrences in the /Library and so on, however it is still being listed as an option in the scanners that can be shared i.e. in System Preferences>Sharing>Scanner sharing.
How do I go about removing this, any hints?
I also have this suspicion that this is the root of major issues I have accessing the scanner on my system some times, since I get "scanner communication errors" quite frequently, which are in turn resolved my plugging my scanner off and back on again...I did reinstall the software and drivers that came with the scanner to no avail.
    Thanks

Hey, I used wonder as well where the information was stored regarding the scanner sharing and I think I found a solution. Here's what I found. Download an application that can edit .plist files, such as Martin Bresink's "Prefedit" or "PlistEdit Pro".
Go to this location: ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost and find the file "com.apple.ImageCaptureExtension2.[xxxxxxxxxxxx].plist" where X's stands for your specific Ethernet/Airport Mac address.
Edit the file using the application mentioned and remove your scanner/device (SANE) from the Devices list (remove the device number, ie. 0 or 1 or 2, etc). Save the file. If unable to save, change permissions to own the file, save it, and reset the permissions.
That removed the shared scanner from my list of scanners in the sharing preference.
    Hope it works.

  • How to remove white margin for pdf file shared by iCloud Keynote?

iCould beta Keynote is very good. Thanks very much for Apple's effort.
However, there is a litter problem that the pdf file shared by iClound Keynote has a white margin. How to remove this white margin? Or any bug there?

No. I checked every page. Top side no white margin. In left and right side, the white margin is about 1mm, and in bottom side the white margin is about 2mm.

If you are using an unsecured or shared wireless network, then it could be just another user's computer name. If your sharing settings are correct, you have no worry. However, It would appear that at least some of the other user's settings are less than optimal inasmuch as his/hers is openly being displayed.
The next time you check into a hotel and use their wireless network, you are likely to see a number of other user's computers. Some just the name, as they share no files. While others are wide open, and their file sharing is on.

  • How to remove a PC from shared section in the finder

    Community,
I found a pc name in the "shared" ("CONDIVISI" section for italian speakers like me!!) section of the left menu in the Finder. It is something I don't recognize. I never connected to this computer. Any clue how it has been able to get there? How to remove it?
    I appreciate your answer
    Antonio

Most likely, at some time, "betesda-vaio" was connected to the same network as your Mac.  (Perhaps a friend connected their Vaio laptop to your wireless network during a visit?)
The Shared (CONDIVISI) section shows devices that are available on the network; it does not mean that your Mac is connected to the device (in this case "betesda-vaio").
If "betesda-vaio" is no longer on the same network as your Mac, if you log out (or restart), it should disappear from the sidebar.

  • How to remove "shared folder"  in Finder?

Hi, my home directory now appears as "shared Folder" in the top of Finder.
I selected "get info" for the home directory.
The shared folder box is not selected.
in sharing and permissions there is:
    alberto(me) privilege: read and write
    staff: read and write
    everyone: no access.
I selected apply to enclosed items.
what is generating that "shared folder info?"
How do I remove the "sharing" of my home directory?
(In other volumes, and in the top of my home volume the permissions are: system red and write, admin read and write, everyone read only, and there is no "shared folder" info in that volumes).

That last item is usually problematical. Applying to enclosed items can cause problems with permissions.

If you have a backup, revert to the time when it was working properly.

There have also been many bug fixes since 10.5.2 which you indicate you are running. You might consider updating to the latest version of Leopard.

So I'm not sure why the "All" is there.. and when I click on it, it doesn't show any network...

  • How do you remove a shared contact on my phone

How do you remove a shared contact on your I phone 4 or 5. some how my salesmans and my sons phones got linked and they are both getting emails I send and some that are recieved. My sales phone has my number linked to his phone as well. Need to see if there is a way to get these numbers removed. I have gone into the settings and unchecked the numbers and email links but want to try to get them removed as neither my son nor my salesman need to get my infomation  on there phone.

The app has to be in the iTunes App Store or you cannot do so.

  • How do I remove the shared link that's shares my contact information? I need to remove the link off all my contacts and not just on an individual basis. Somehow my boyfriends iPhone can see all of my contact information.

Unshare my contact information so no one is able to see it.

In addition my icloud is turned off and I also removed the shared linked off of my boyfriend's contact information on my phone but he still has access to all my contact information. I see the shared links in all my other contacts as well but I'm not sure if unlinking each contact will help. Is there another way to unshare the contact information?
