How to remove update notification for an unwanted app?

Hi, recently, I got a notification to update an app I never purchased ("Nyan Cat: Lost In Space"). I checked with Apple support services, I searched that app on my hard drive and in my iTunes and App Store history, it doesn't appear anywhere. But it's still standing here in the App Store app update section, with a red badge on the icon, inviting me to update this app that has never installed on any of my drives. It's really annoying, is there something I can do to get rid of that crap?

Thanks for your help Dah•veed. I thought that'd be easier to solve but I'll go to an Apple Store.

  • How to stop update notification for one app (iMovie) that I do not want to update

How to stop update notification for one app (iMovie) that I do not want to update. I do not want iMovie 10 taking up nearly 3 gb on my hard disc. iMovie 9 is just fine and only takes up 1.5 gb. But I get notifications to update and don't know how to turn it off. I've gone into the Purchases tab of the App store and deleted it. I don't want to turn off Update notifications (which is irrelevant in any case because I see no option to do that in Notifications system preference pane). I just don't want to be bugged about iMovie updates. The only option I'm given is to postpone the next reminder until the next morning. -- Franklin

Interesting; never came across that - here is the window I get (just double clicked on a random doc in the trash):

  • How to stop update notifications for specific software updates

NOTE: I apologize in advance for the extreme length of my post & hope that someone will be willing to read it all & then be willing to help... Thanks!
I have been continually getting a Software Update notification for "Migration Assistant Update for Lion" (described "This update provides compatibility for migrating to a Mac running OS X Mavericks.") for quite a while now. IMHO, I consider my Mac knowledge/tech experience level (on a scale of 1-10, where 10 is a Mac Guru) to be about maybe 6 or 7 on average (&von a good day maybe an 8). That's assuming, of course, something like this can be quantified in that way. LOL! ;-) Anywho, I digress... Back to my question... As a general rule I don't immediately jump & install every single new update that comes out for all of my technology/electronics, no matter if Apple or Google tells me to do so. Obviously, I take all notices regarding security seriously & immediately research (unless it's forced upon me) it thoroughly before installing. This is ESPECIALLY true for apps in Apple's app store or Google Play Store, & I read a lot of the user reviews, as well as trusted tech gurus on the Web. Because NOT EVERY update is truly an improvement (mostly b/c of the failure to FULLY test them before releasing, more like unleashing, them to the public...Microsoft has mastered this FUBAR technique to absolute 'perfection', or something like that...haha!) OY, I'm so sorry for continually getting off topic. Okay, seriously now, here's what I want to know:  Is there any way to tell Apple I don't want to install one of their recommended updates & also to stop bugging me about it? I'm specifically referring to the one I mentioned above. Everything I found online about Mavericks made me want to stay VERY FAR AWAY from it. I could be wrong or found bad info, but I don't think so. Please let me know if I'm wrong, because I really want to make the best/most informed decision possible. Thanks!
That being said, today I received notifications about Apple's latest security update (2014-001), plus one for Safari.  I plan to install the security update for sure  & most likely the one for Safari (even though I stopped using it months ago & started using either Chrome, Opera or Firefox - I still haven't picked a fave, but use Chrome 90% of the time... I'm open to suggestions about these apps too...)... But, I don't want to mess with the "Migration Assistant" one.
I would really love some help from my fellow Mac users... I apologize for being long winded & will try to reign in that nagging writing flaw in future posts. Also, I apologize if I've missed something that's totally obvious & easily found on this or other forums/sites, but I really did try to find an answer before posting my question here...
Thanks Mucho to all of you who were able to read through my mini-novel (& not fall asleep in the process) & actually found my question at the end!! I would like to say "THANK YOU!!" in advance for any & all help y'all are willing to provide!!! :-D
Hope you have a FANTABULOUS day! (^_-) Sincerely, Care ;-)

Wow, now that I see how extremely long my post is on screen, I'm a wee bit embarrassed... I'm hoping someone will be willing to overlook this annoying factor & provide a suggestion... :-/ Signed w/shame, Care :-/

  • How to remove update notification?

How to remove the update notification as it shown '1' at the top of app store icon? I was asked to update 'facebook' but then it requires my friend's id password instead of mine.. I've signed out all of his data from my iphone, but still can't be updated by my apple id. Help me, i just can't stand with the red dot on the app store icon T_T

If the app was downloaded by your friend's account then only his account will be able to download updates to it - you can delete the app and download it via your own account, and you will then be able to download any future updates to it.

  • How to remove update option for certain apps

Two years ago my macbook crashed and I had to use a friends external HDD to restore my mac. It worked like a charm and I never looked back. Around a year ago I started to get prompts to update certain apps but I couldn't update those apps as It was still tied to his Itunes accounts. I recently finished school so I have no way of contacting him to get his password. Is there a way to bypass this? Or am I forced to do a complete reset? Also the computer shows up as his name which I assume was because he restored his entire computer into mine. Anyways thanks for the read and cheers. Btw I foolishly threw away the app disc and restore disc while I was cleaning my room one day.

Basically all of the software on your Mac belongs to him and technically at this point is pirated. You should erase the HDD and restore the original version of OS X that shipped on the Mac. If that was Snow Leopard, you need your original Restore DVDs that shipped with the Mac. If it was Lion, Mt Lion or Mavericks, use OS X Recovery, likely over the internet.

  • How can I disable notification for new install update for adobe??

How can I disable notification for new install update for adobe (adobe reader, flash player, etc.)
Is there way from SCCM2012 or group policy or any easy way?????
    Please help me

If you mean the built-in functionality of Adobe Reader and Adobe Flash, it's different mechanism for both.
For the reader, check this guide for example:
    http://www.adminarsenal.com/admin-arsenal-blog/bid/84409/Adobe-Customization-Wizard-XI-Tutorial
For flash, check this guide for example:
    http://jthys.wordpress.com/2012/07/07/disable-automatic-updates-for-adobe-flash-shockwave-player-reader/
After you've studied the above guides, you need to implement those to be used with ConfigMgr application deployment so that when you deploy Reader/Flash, you get the result you want = no automatic update functionality.

You settings and such are in a separate place and not in the Firefox program folder as has been the case since the browser was known as Phoenix 0.1
Your settings like Bookmarks, history and such are in a Profile. If you uninstall Firefox and then install same or another version you will find that your settings are still there since it will use the last Profile used unless selected otherwise upon Firefox start.

  • I got update notification for an app i didn't buy

I've got update notification for an app "CodeBox" that i didn't buy on my MacBook Appstore
    how can i remove it??

I'm not sure why that link gets given out for pirated apps because it has nothing to do with pirated apps. That link is about a totally unrelated issue about MAS updates.
    Finding a pirated app -
All MAS apps have a MAS receipt in their app bundle. Check any app acquired from the MAS. Right click on the app's icon in your Apps folder and choose Show package contents. In the Contents folder is a _MASReceipt folder and in that folder is the coded MAS receipt. It has the Apple ID of the MAS account that bought/acquired the app from the MAS. It is that receipt that the MAS uses to alert you that an app has an update. There would not be a notice of an update with someone else's Apple ID showing in the MAS on your Mac, if there was not an app with a receipt from this person's account somewhere on your Mac.
    Download the free app FindAnyFile (FAF);
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
This app is easier to use and seems to be more powerful than Spotlight. Open FAF and in the box type _MASReceipt and press Find. It should come up with a list of every app on the Mac with a MAS receipt. Compare the apps with receipts in FAF's list with your purchased apps list in the Mac App Store. The odd app out should be the pirated app.
    Lots of folks are resistant to the idea that they have a pirated app, but they eventually find out that its true;

  • I keep getting a update notification for iMovie but when i click update it prompts a different apple id

i keep getting a update notification for iMovie but when i click update it prompts a different apple id and it dose not allow me to change the apple id so I'm left with the old iMovie and no way to update ?? need help

Deleting and redownloading will not fix it unless it shows as part of your purchases, which it likely doesn't.
The resolution will depend on how you got the app in the first place.  Check my response here Lost iWorks apps after Yosemite clean install  different app, but same thing.
If your Mac came with the dvd version, you never tied them to your Apple ID (assuming eligibility to do so), sometimes signing out/in from the App Store fixes it, allowing you to accept under purchases (see my other post).  Otherwise, you'll need to contact Apple.

Click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for a refund. Consider whether or not you want to do this now carefully first; if they grant one, you'll need a very good reason to get another from them.

  • How do I update Java for Adobe Flash CS3?

    Hi,
When I ran Secunia Software Inspector today it told me that
the version of Java I have installed on my computer is out of date.
It tells me that it is finding 3 out-of-date files:
    Once here:
    C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_04\bin\java.exe
    Twice here:
    C:\Windows\System32\java.exe
    and three times here:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\JVM\bin\java.exe
I updated Java via the Sun website and consequently the first
and second warnings disappeared when I reran the Software
    Inspector.
The software inspector however is still finding an
    out-of-date Java version here:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\JVM\bin\java.exe
Question is: How do I update Java for Adobe Flash CS3?
Is it adequate to copy the updated file "java.exe" from
    "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_04\bin\" to "C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\JVM\bin\" or do I need to do anything
    else?
Any help will be much appreciated.

    Hi
I have the same problem of you, and the same dont find a
solution. Me it's Kaspersky Anti Virus (AV) which find this
    problem.
So (and I dont know if this solution is perfect), but I open
Flash CS3 with the Java update choiced and apparently Flash
fonctionnely well and Kaspersky dont find this
prob now. But I dont never use Java in Flash (or without that
I know that..), and same, I dont know at what Java is used in Flash
I think that "JRE v 1.6.0_04" and more recent Java version is
not good, because it's not quite the same Java application that in
    Flash CS3, In Flash CS3 it's "J2RE" and
    not "JRE".
The history of all Java versions (and this) is here (
    http://java.sun.com/products/archive/)
(but in all this versions... seriousely it's a true shambles !)
If you want the last version for J2RE in this archives it's v
1.4.2.18 but the last version is J2RE 1.4.2.19 but dont again in
    this archives
(search on Java site, maybe first page ? I dont remember
where I to find it...). But the problem... it's that this last
version (19) is always detected bad by my AV...
So I decide to use just the next version (v 1.5) and last
version in this series (in archives site) which is the "JDK/JRE -
    5.0 v 5.0.16" but again named "Java 2 Platform
Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 16" in this dowload next
    archives page
    http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/5.0_16/index.html),
so well again named "Java 2" in this page (that which dont
the case for the equivalent same download page for Java 6...)
(Choice "JRE 5.0 Update 16" in this page)
For instal "JRE 5.0 Update 16":
    1) Supp all files and folders in "JVM" (Java Virtual Machine)
folder in Flash CS3 (but dont supp this folder, empty now) and save
this contents in archive in you have
    affraid.
    2) dl "JRE 5.0 Update 16", directly in this page if you want:
    (https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/View ProductDetail-Start?ProductRef=jre-1.5.0_16-oth-JPR@CDS-CDS_Dev
    eloper)
    3) In install, choice "personal instal" (or +/- the same
terms) and choice the "JVM" folder of you Flash CS3
and AV dont detect this version same a bad file
