How to rename files already in catalog?

I accidentally imported a large batch of images into LR 2.5 (on a new Windows 7 machine) using the "Filename" template rather than my customary "Date - Filename" template, and did a LOT of work on the files before I noticed the error.  Is there a way I can reapply the Date-Filename template or otherwise prepend the date (in the intended format) to the file names both in LR and on my disk in one fell swoop?

Select the images, hit f2.

  • In lr4 where/how to rename files if loaded from folder already on hard drive?

    Files imported from a card reader can be renamed upon import but where/how to rename files added from a folder already on the hard drive? Also, how to rename files so as to not have gaps in the number sequence once the "rejects" have been deleted? Thanks.

    Yes and yes.  And, using it with the new shoot name renamed the files perfectly!
    There is even a "original number suffix" so if you don't like IMG_4501 and prefer DSC_4501 you can pull the 4501 (the suffix) and replace the first three characters.
    So, in one operation SFO-shoot-(IMG_4501).NEF could become Wine-country-shoot-(IMG_4501).NEF or even Wine-country-shoot-(4501).NEF if you prefer.  Powerful.

  • How to rename files that appear in multiple .book files?

    I have about 50 .fm files, and 4 .book files, each of which includes about 20 of the .fm files.
    I want to rename some of the files.
    If I open all four .book files at once, and I go to First.book and rename file Q, I want it to be renamed in all the other .book files in which it happens to be included.
    How can I do that?
    Thanks.

    You have to rename the file in each book that it is included in. After the first re-name, the other books will treat the old filename as a missing one.

  • How to fix 'file already exists, code 6' cs5.03 win7 64bit bluray please

    hello,
    at the last part of a 31gb bluray h264 iso image burn
    encore stops responding for 20 minutes (disappears from task manager
    and performance monitor entirely) and then says 'code 6 file already exists'
    the same error has occurred twice at the very end of the build
    i cleared the preferences each time
    any help is appreciated...

    hello,
    after a lot of reading and
    some digging, figured out
    how my system does things:
    when you tell encore to write a bdmv folder
    you come out with 2 folders: bdmv and a temp folder
    using image burn you load up the first bdmv folder which contains
    the streams, etc.
    then tell image burn to load up the certificate folder
    which is hiding in the temp/db/certificate directory
    very clever...

  • How to rename files by folder name in applescript

    Hi,
    I need to be able to rename files within a folder to the folder name. I have a work flow and script that allows me to find the files within a folder, enter a new file name and starting sequence number in tow seperate dialogue boxes. What I want to be able to achieve is to rename the files without manually entering the name... I still want to be able to manually enter the number.

    Use code such as:
    tell application "Finder"
    set the_folder to (choose folder)
    repeat with this_file from 1 to (count (get files of the_folder))
    set name of file this_file of the_folder to (name of the_folder) & " " & this_file
    end repeat
    end tell
    replacing the last this_file on the fourth line with the variable which contains the number.

  • How to rename files in OS X SL, from 2 similar sets of picts?

    Hello,
    I have 2 sets to files that are different but carry the same file name, e.g. "PICT_001...PICT050" twice.
    In Finder, I'm looking for a way to select all pictures from one set and rename all at once, e.g. "PICT_051...PICT100" at once.
    Please help.
    Thanks all

    David
    I have to agree with Jeff and the other Poster.
    IMHO you really do not want to import anything from your 10.2 Server. Configure and Deploy 10.6 Server from scratch. I've seen problems and unpredictable results when importing from 10.4 Server let alone an earlier version.
    You could use "ditto" from the command line if you wish to copy data shares from 10.2 to 10.6 Server, but I don't think you'll 'gain' anything by doing this. 10.6 Server uses ACLs so you'll be using that Permissions Model instead of POSIX. ACLs supercede POSIX.
    Beyond this and an important point to make is the reliance OSX Server has on DNS. This really can't be stressed enough. If all you want is a simple AFP File Server and nothing else you should still configure DNS simply to provide the Server with the stability it needs. If this is going to be the only server on the network configure the DNS Service. If there is an existing Server already running DNS Services create appropriate records. Avoid the use of .local if possible and if you have a real world domain use that instead.
    If you know nothing of DNS then try to learn as much as you can because you will need it even though it may not seem so to begin with. No-one assumes you know anything about it anyway although if you've been using email and internet for some time you must at least be aware of it? On the surface it may seem complicated but truly at its heart it is extremely simple. Finally keep things simple and you should be OK?
    My 2p.

  • HT2506 how to rename files using preview

    I have scanned some images to my desktop, and now I want to rename them; how do I do this?

    Just as an amendmend: the above was true in better -blessed- times.
    Now (Mavericks at least) also this is gone. Why not just have the option to click in the name of the file in the Thumbnail bar and change the name? Why no preview.app>menu-item "rename"? Anybody on earth would understand this, probably even my dog i don't have....
    Currently i don't find any option to rename singular pictures while browsing them using preview.
    Or did i miss s.th. obvious?
    Just adding to another oddity i am across with about preview (Annotate in Preview - Underline Tool with Different Colors) ...
    Not to mention, that preview always resets the viewport of a document opened in preview to the document-beginning, when havin opened multiple documents in preview an closing one of them, totally annoying.
    I hope this gets sorted out soon, preview was almost perfect pre 10.8, no idea whats's goin wrong there...
    Sigh...

  • How to rename files from 2 bodies

    I've got about 4K files shot with two different D200 bodies and need a way to re-name the RAW files without overwriting any duplicates. Nikon doesn't show serial numbers in EXIF data and one body had one dedicated lens for the entire time, so I should be able to filter for all images shot with that lens. But what then? My re-namimg scheme is to use YYYY_MMDD_original file number generated by camera. However, there were a handful of times I pulled the card from camera A and used it for some shots in camera B. Apparently the original file numbers continued in sequence (?) although I was anticipating the camera-specific numbers to be used.
    I hope I've explained this well enough. Before I rename and make a complete mess, can anyone offer a suggestion?
    TIA

    I'd like to hear ideas on this too. Particularly if any of the sequence number settings like "image #" or "total #" can be used to good effect in this case.
    For now, I simply rename on import with a sequence number. When the filenames collide LR appends a "-1" to the 2nd import. After they're all in the folder I make sure I've sorted by capture time and then do another rename pass to get them all sequenced the way I want them in the folder.
    It would be nice to do this in one pass, without having to put, say, the camera serial in the file name.

  • Using Automator to Rename Files

    I can't figure out how to rename files so that the number in the name is in parentheses. For example Dog 1.jpg should be changed to Dog (1).jpg. How can I accomplish this in Automator?

    ok. the following should work. paste it into AppleScript Editor. select the files you want to rename in finder and press "run" in script editor. you might want to test it on a small number of files first.
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #ADD8E6;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    tell application "Finder"
    set selected_items to selection
    repeat with this_item in selected_items
    set current_name to name of this_item as text
    set current_extension to name extension of this_item
    set length_extension to length of current_extension
    set name_no_ext to text 1 thru (-length_extension - 2) of current_name
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to " "
    if (number of text items of name_no_ext > 1) then
    set z to last text item of name_no_ext --get the number at the end of the name before the extension
    set name of this_item to do shell script "echo " & quoted form of current_name & "|sed 's/" & z & "." & current_extension & "/(" & z & ")." & current_extension & "/'"

  • Rename files using text or excel file

    I am trying to find out how to rename files on my pc using the names stored in a text document
    eg. the file on the pc is called "C07_08.dat"
    the text file has the following line "3am Eternal         KLF         03:15 121 BMG         C07.08"
    i want to change the name of the file "C07_08.dat" to "3am Eternal.mpeg"
    What I would like is a batch file or program or something that will see the text "C07.08" and find the corresponding file "C07_08.dat" and rename it "3am Eternal.mpeg"
    I have managed to create a excel document that has the information in four separate columns
    Column A has the name of the file I want to use (ie. 3am Eternal) Column B & C have unneeded information and Column D has the file reference (ie. C07.08)
    I was told that Python or Visual basic could do this so I downloaded them but I have no experience with this so im lost as to what to do, I have over 1800 of these files so doing it file by file will take quite a while.
    I have included a sample of the text file for reference if that helps

    Here are two VBScripts that will rename the files based on the text file example you provided. The script that reads a
    TEXT FILE requires each entry to be separated by
    ONE TAB  because it is the
    TAB
    that it uses to split each line into 4 parts (part1 - old file name, part2 and part3 - items you don’t need, part 4 - new file name). If there is more that one tab then the Split Function will not work properly.
    The second VBScript will read the
    EXCEL FILE row by row and use the values in Column A for the old file name and
    Column D for the new file name. This approach will work much better if you have an excel document setup like this.
    I used your example that you provided and it test fine for both approaches.
    'Read text file
    Dim objFSO, objFolder, inFile, strInLine, strOldFile, strNewFile
    Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    'Select the folder
    Set objFolder = objFSO.GetFolder("C:\Scripts\MusicFiles")
    'Open Text File
    Set inFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile("C:\Scripts\MusicFiles.txt",1)
    Do Until inFile.AtEndOfStream
    'Read text file line by line and Split each line into 4 parts.
    strInLine = Split(inFile.ReadLine, vbTab)
    'Old File name
    strOldFile = strInLine(3)
    'new File name
    strNewFile = strInLine(0)
    'Loop through the files in the folder
    For Each File In objFolder.Files
    'If the file name matches the old file name above
    If File.Name = strOldFile & ".dat" Then
    'Replace it
    File.Name = strNewFile & ".mpeg"
    End If
    Next
    Loop
    'Close the text reader
    inFile.Close
    MsgBox "Done."
    'Read Excel file
    Dim objFSO, objExl, objFolder, objWorkbook, strOldFile, strNewFile, intRow
    Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Set objExl = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
    'Select the folder
    Set objFolder = objFSO.GetFolder("C:\Scripts\MusicFiles")
    'Open the Excel file
    Set objWorkbook = objExl.Workbooks.Open("C:\Scripts\MusicFiles.xls")
    'Start at row 1
    intRow = 1
    'Read each Row until the end
    Do Until objExl.Cells(intRow,1).Value = ""
    'Old file name is in column 4
    strOldFile = objExl.Cells(intRow, 4).Value
    'New file name is in column 1
    strNewFile = objExl.Cells(intRow, 1).Value
    'Loop through each file in the selected folder
    For Each File In objFolder.Files
    'If the file name matches the old file name above
    If File.Name = strOldFile & ".dat" Then
    'Replace it
    File.Name = strNewFile & ".mpeg"

    Change the above line by the following line. It will rename as well as copy.

  • Cannot rename DC, "Cannot create a file when that file already exists."

    Hi,
    A long time ago we used a domain controller named jacob.mydomain.lan.  It was removed, possibly in a 'dirty' way, and now we cannot re-use that name for another domain controller.  In the meantime we have upgraded to Win 2012 domain controllers
    now, and when I enter this to rename:
    netdom computername ourdc.mydomain.lan /add:jacob.mydomain.lan
    I get the error:  "Unable to add jacob.mydomain.lan as an alternate name for the computer.  The error is:  Cannot create a file when that file already exists."
    If I enter:
    netdom computername ourdc.mydomain.lan /remove:jacob.mydomain.lan
    I get: "The command completed successfully", but it still refuses to add jacob.mydomain.lan
    After each attempt to add a forward zone dns record 'jacob.ourdomain.lan' has been created.  I always erase this manually afterwards.
    What is the problem? How can I search to find the offending 'file' named 'jacob'?
    Thanks a lot for help on this.

  • File already exists in catalog error message

    When trying to scan a photo into the PSE 8 Organizer, I get the message "The file already exists in the catalog".  It indicates the file c:/users/user/AppData/Local/Temp/PSAlbumImport/2014-02-23-1315-04/Image1.jpg.  This file contains the image that I scanned in but it won't import into the Organizer.  I now have several scanned photos with this problem, all in different directories.  How can I fix this?

    My scanner software requires me to scan to photo software when scanning slides or negatives so the folder suggestion does not work.
    I have found a work around . I now scan into the organizer of my PSE 5 program which then shows up in the browser as new files when I open PSE 9.
    The PSE 5 program will scan all 4 slides without any problems. This didn't fix the problem in PSE 9 but I can get my scans done.
    I just wish Adobe support would get off their *** and respond to problems. I emailed them a week ago and have not received any response.
    Thanks for your response.
